Work Text:
Alan's typing away at the keyboard, coming up with a script for the next 'lore filled' videos... which are certainly stressing him out. As he's about to call it a day, he notices a certain cyan stickfigure—although a bit slumped over—walking on the taskbar and into his view. As he quickly shifts his mouse cursor into an open palm, waving in Blue's direction, he feels his happiness quickly drop as the figure only acknowledges him for a second, before simply pacing around, back and forth on the left side of his screen.
He taps his finger on the desk for a second; Why is Blue sad? And, after a second of contemplating, decides that it's best to interact. As he tries to put a hand on the stickfigure's shoulder (or, rather, palming their upper arm), Blue gives a sad pat to the cursor before lifting their head up, seemingly ready to share. Alan types; Whats wrong? Blue walks over and first adds an apostrophe to the question, of course, before taking letters and jumbling them together into a coherent thought; I might dislike yellow, and I don't know why.
Their creator is... caught off guard. The two sticks were all buddy-buddy with each other last night, even holding hands! What's going on?? So, of course, he inquires about everything that answer gave; What makes you say that? Did anything happen while I was away? Is yellow mad at you??
As Blue was rapid-fired questions, trying to figure out when they can actually, y'know, answer them, they decided that their best approach was to just draw the dilemma. Stepping off the word doc, they walk over to stomp on the paint app icon, opening it up. They climb up and onto the blank canvas, walking over to the tools before grabbing the paintbrush and color-picking their own arm, trying their best to doodle a scene.
So, there's Blue, and then Yellow is drawn next to them. As 'whoosh'y sound effects admit from their hand gestures, it's a little clearer to Alan that nothing weird occured, as Blue X's out two sad and angry faces in red. As Blue selects grey and scribbles swirlys around their head and stick-chest, gesturing wildly from Yellows portrait to Blues, Alan understands what... might, be happening. Can stickfigures feel that way?
As Blue overcomplicates the drawing further, explaining in excessive detail how they really enjoy Yellows company, but feel sick whenever they're near each other, how they want to give everything to be near Yellow but can't gesture any emotions when they are, Alan Googles the symptoms of a crush.
When Blue finally notices he isn't paying attention to the whole spiel, they're grabbed by the cursor and dropped next to the first results. And they read them, pointing at each symptom as their demeanor changes entirely, nodding while holding their head with one hand. Stomach tingles? Check. Copying movements? Maybe-Check. Eye contact? Definitely not. The list was long, but considerably accurate. Instead of freaking out like Alan expected, Blue pumped their fist and was practically hopping as they celebrated Not Hating Yellow, jumping on top of the search bar and dancing with little care that God is watching.
Of course afterwards, Blue immediately scrambled the letters in the search bar, asking what to do about a crush. Reading it all, nodding at each line of text they read, the consensus seemed to be 'Wait', which wasn't easy for the average web-animation. So, then they ask; How to tell my crush that I like them. The results? Things that require a face and voice.
As Blue searched more things in a quick manner, nubby hands clicking against words and growing more infuriated with the mixed information, some pretty obvious words were dropping onto the floor as they were tossed out carelessly; Love, Crush, Flort (a very telling misspelling), Flowers, all of which are increasingly harder to play off.
Blue's nearly punching the search bar at this point, scrambling the letters into near gibberish before Alan grabs them and places them in the graveyard of nouns and verbs, the stickfigure looking around before sitting down quietly, arms around their legs.
The screen is a mess with absurd doodles about Blues complicated feelings and a nearly blank Chrome tab, its contents on the taskbar floor. Picking themself off of the floor, they become panicked when they notice Red and Yellow walking onto the screen, gesturing about something to do with command blocks, only for them to pause and look up at a near erased webpage.
Blue's near mortified by this event as they quickly stand up and kick the words behind their legs, playing it cool by waving at the pair once the look back down. Of course, the two happily wave back, although Yellow still seems a bit curious. Alan moves his cursor to try discreetly closing the msPaint tab for Blue, only to bring the tab front and center. As Blue glances over and tries to ignore it, shrugging their shoulders as they try to pin any odd art on their creator, Yellow crossed their arms, tilting their head to give the impression of a raised eyebrow. Even Red seemed suspicious, leaning forward and scratching their non-existent chin.
When the drawing page is finally closed, Yellow tried to look behind Blue; What even is a 'flort'? As they try reading the other words, Blue points behind the duo, both looking in the direction confused, giving chance for the stickfigure escape. Blue scoops up the words and runs off to the right side of the screen, the other two chasing behind. While it seems like Blue might have been able to get away, they were no match for running directly into Green, spilling both words and chess pieces on the ground. Second Coming runs up to them, gesturing wildly at the mess alongside Green, but Blue could care less. As the two who were giving chase slow to a walk, Blue can't help but curl up on the floor; What if they don't want to be friends after this?
As Alan watches the screen stressed, watching the others read the words and start waving their arms at each other like they're baby birds begging for food, Blue gets up and slowly walks off, an action that's noticed by the other sticks. Green's about to chase after them before Yellow places a hand on their upper-arm shoulder area, shaking their head. Yellow walks on over, the others trying their best not to peep as much as usual.
Blue's reached one of the first apps on the taskbar by the time Yellow walks on over and reaches them, raising their arms in a acquisitory manner, trying to figure out what that was all about. Blue lowers their head, trying not to look at Yellow, but just as quickly lift it when they feel a pat on their arm. Yellow doesn't do anything else, they just... touch Blues arm for a bit. Yellow pokes again and tilts their head, Blue shrugging with an embarrassed nod. Yellow takes a step closer and at this point, it's obvious that Blue's lines are squiggling for some reason. This time, Blue steps forward, the little space between them causing Yellow to tilt their upper-body back, surprised that Blue didn't up and crash on contact.
Before they can continue the uncomfortable confession scene, they hear the sound of shuffling and tab-dragging. They turn around, and see a poorly cropped bit of Alan's screen, the three behind it in plain sight to anyone besides their creator who definitely knows what they just did; Real classy, guys. Still, they turn back to each other, taking the chance to get another foot apart. Blue finally tries and expresses anything, but it comes out more as a poorly worded coffee order, rather than what they genuinely meant to say. Yellow steps forward and puts their hands on blue arms, stopping the absurdity of the already awkward situation from continuing.
Blue freezes up, but before doing so, moved their hands to hold where Yellows were. Yellow doesn't pull away, tilting their head to the side and back with a gentle look of understanding. Blue relaxes their arms to their sides, Yellow still holding them tight. They both lean in a bit, space closing in, and... bonk. Their faces bounce off of each other, Yellow wincing from the slight collision. The others kick the stupid 'disguise' away, clapping and cheering. Alan gives a slight cheer, appearing to have grabbed a bag of microwave popcorn during the tension as he shovels some into his mouth. Blue... ragdolls, the only thing keeping them from hitting the floor head-on is the fact that Yellow's holding them up.
Will Alan post this online?...
...Nah, there's already enough fanart.
