Blankets

Summary:

Elphaba is cold, and Glinda has a lot of blankets.

Work Text:

Glinda lay in bed, eyes still heavy with sleep. Curled up under her thick comforter, she would hardly have noticed the bitter chill of the early hours if it weren’t for the faint sound of Elphaba shivering across the room piercing the stillness of the night.

Beneath the warmth of her own blankets, Glinda’s chest tightened in concern. She shifted slightly, propping herself up on her elbows to look at her roommate. The soft moonlight illuminated Elphaba’s form, huddled under her thin, gray sheet trying to ward off the cold.

With a quiet sigh, Glinda gathered her mass of blankets, tiptoeing quickly across the room and jumping onto the bed. Elphaba’s eyes shot open, and she grunted at the sudden weight of a person on top of her.

“Glinda?” Elphaba blinked sleepily, craning her neck to see the figure above her. “What are you–”

“Sshhh…” Glinda threw her blanket over Elphaba’s head, giggling softly at the muffled grumble this elicited. “Elphie, you’re freezing. I’m warm. I just don’t see any other option available.”

“Well, I can’t see at all.”

“Oh. Sorry.” Glinda felt her face heat up, and she rolled off of her roommate, wedging herself into the tight space between Elphaba and the wall. She shimmied her way under Elphaba’s blanket, shivering when her leg brushed Elphaba’s freezing one. “But you are really cold.”

She pressed herself against Elphaba’s back, rubbing her hands up and down her roommate's arms quickly in an attempt to generate some heat. Elphaba melted slowly into the touch, her body uncurling from itself.

“Much better” Glinda slurred sleepily, clumsily wrapping her arms around Elphaba’s waist and burying her face in her shoulder. “Goodnight Elphie.”

“Pleasant dreams, Glinda.”
