Chapter Text
You don't search for something you know doesn't exist, that's why I've given up.
As I open my eyes, my hands instinctively grab my phone and pull it from the charger. There has to be something new, my thoughts tell me as I scroll through my phone, there isn't, obviously. I look to my left and of course the rest of the bed is empty, it has been for about a week. The door rattles.
"You are already up Hanna?" Of course I am, we go through this every day since the last seven days, I wake up he isn't there and then he comes in around 5 minutes and 37 seconds later, no matter what time I wake up he takes the exact same time to come in. I nod to his question and collect my clothes to go change. My grey suit is perfectly ironed, there's not a hint of imperfection on it, my silver watch gleams, it's 6:58AM, I'm about 2 hours early for work so I decide to pull up all of my silky hair into a neat bun. I walk out the front door not sparing the pointy chinned freak in the kitchen another glance. Caffeine is all that is keeping me alive, well, there is another thing too, I pull my phone out again after ordering my espresso, there's one new post.
She's nearby. She's at the park, our park. I sprint over there in record time, faster than any Olympic athlete, this is the first time she's been back in town for years.
"Oh my gosh! Rei, is that you? I haven't seen you in like forever." I smile, not widely. Just right. Perfect. I try to ignore the girl next to her who I've seen once before, on Rei's Instagram post. Rei never posts about her love life. Why is this girl different?
"Hanna?! Rei, you know the Hanna?" The girl squeals almost breaking my eardrums. Oh shit, she's one of my fangirls, I have to play buddy-buddy with her.
"She's just an old school friend, Emmy." Rei pats 'Emmy' on the back, lightly touching her dirty blonde hair. Emmy's innocent blue eyes peer into mine yet mine are much, much less innocent.
We idly chat for a few minutes. We talk about our life, our careers, well, my cover career of being an actress, a small frown traces Rei's lips, nobody else notices but me, I don't think she even noticed. The topic of Hansum comes up, thanks to Emmy, who's real name is Emmaline, her name is pretty, ugly compared to mine though.
"You married him?" Her pupils were smaller, mouth just slightly agape, was she upset because of him or me? I want to grab her hand and tell her everything, tell her why I'm married to Hansum, tell her about how I'm a spy, tell her it will be okay, but, I can't and I won't. I don't believe in true love but if it existed, my true love would be Rei.
My watch reflects some light into my eyes as if to remind me of something, I look down at its face, though I would rather be looking at Rei's, I have 5 minutes until work starts. I extend my apologies to both Emmaline and Rei. As I leave I purposely brush my arm against Rei's and realise I didn't pick up my coffee. It's okay, she's the only caffeine I need. Everything is blurry as I walk to work, the memory of her is giving me vertigo. I arrive at work and long for her already even though it hasn't even been an hour. I check my phone, there's sad love poetry posted on her page. Is that about me? I hope it's about me. I sit in my office chair typing about every odd thing I've noticed about my 'husband', how I've seen him in trees, how he eats food, how I never seem to wake up before him now. I look at the request, for someone to shadow Hansum, that I sent nearly a week ago after he started waking up earlier than me, there's a reply, it just says someone will be camping out at my house and I need to recruit someone for that. Great. Just before I close my emails, I see a new one pop up.
'Stop using your work social medias to spy on that person.' the email reads, it's from a girl in my department, how the hell does she know?
There's no rules against it anyway, so, she can't report me. Even if it's against the law to stalk, we're literally spies and I'm the second most valued one in this whole damned company, after my mother.
"They can't get rid of me. I'm too important." I mutter under my breath. A pair of greenish-hazel eyes with a mole directly below the left one peep over the office cubicle, I recognise them immediately. My face boiled and my ears went red, the girl who sent me that ominous email. My face cools a little after seeing her face, she gives me puppy dog eyes.
"What do you want Astrea? I'm busy." I stare at her as she walks towards my desk
"Busy with what? Stalking your ex-girlfriend? Or are you actually doing your work this time? Anyway, I'm here to make a request." Her words gagged me. Also, what request?!
"Let me shadow your husband! Or well, fake husband." Has she been snooping around my stuff?! How does she know already? I literally opened the email four minutes ago. I agree because despite her annoyingness, she is talented, but I don't want to spend more time with her than I need to. She leaves and I add that she shouldn't snoop around my stuff anymore, she just gives me a glance and a smirk that tells me she won't heed my advice, her dimples dip beautifully.
What am I thinking?! That girl is no good, she could jeopardise everything.
