Guardian Angel

Summary:

Meowing meets them as they walk in, Vash closing the door behind him. In an instant, Kuroneko is rubbing up against Vash’s legs, purring loudly.

Laughing, Vash bends over carefully, picking her up with ease. In an instant she’s kneading against him, nuzzling her face against his chest as they head through the house.

Notes:

More Kuroneko with the family inspired by the really cute art on twitter!!!

Work Text:

Vash grumbles, trailing after Wolfwood. “I can take at least one of them, I’m fine!”

“You just gave birth, I’ve got them!” Wolfwood laughs as he sets down one of the baby carriers to unlock their door. He’s got everything so far, the baby carriers and their hospital bag.

Biting his lip, Vash crouches down gingerly, rubbing at their little girl’s cheek, unable to stop worrying. She coos at him quietly, her eyes wide with curiosity. She yawns, leaning into Vash’s touch.

“I know, but still,” Vash sighs out as Wolfwood opens the door, picking up the baby carrier once more. Their baby coos away, even as she’s picked up. He hugs at himself, pulling his cardigan closer. Their babies are only a few days old, and he’s already nervous about them being out of his sight. Their tiny little twins, just the smallest, most precious thing.

“Guess she’s happy you’re home,” Wolfwood laughs. He sets the baby carriers down before their crib, all decorated with animal plushies, ready for their new babies. Reaching out, he scratches at Kuroneko’s ears, grinning when that earns him a press against his hand and loud purring.

Vash sets her down, already crouched and working at the straps of one of the baby carriers holding their daughter. She seems to be watching Kuroneko with curiosity. The cat is matching her curiosity, poking her head over the edge of the carrier.

The baby laughs and shrieks with giggles when Kuroneko presses her nose against her skin, flailing her tiny little limbs. The noise doesn’t seem to bother the cat, though she flicks her tail when Vash is lifting his daughter out of the carrier, as Wolfwood does the same for their son.

Vash cradles his daughter to his chest for a moment before settling her in the crib, her brother joining her just moments before.

In an instant, Kuroneko is jumping up in the crib, smelling and nuzzling at the twins again as Vash covers them up with a blanket. She purrs loudly, like she does when she’s happy and content to lay on Vash.

“Aw, she likes them,” Vash whispers softly, leaning over the side of the crib, letting their daughter hold his finger. Kuroneko moves to curl up beside the babies.

“Good,” Wolfwood laughs. “Too bad the babies need some sleep.”

He picks up Kuroneko, who protests loudly. Booping her nose, Wolfwood stares down fondly at their babies, before tugging at Vash’s cardigan sleeve. “You too, you’re exhausted.”

“But-”

“Babies’ll be fine.”

Vash groans, but straightens, letting out a wounded noise when he pulls out of their daughter’s reach. “Fine.”

“Someone is crying,” Vash mumbles against Wolfwood.

One of their babies is crying loudly, little hiccuping noises, quieting for a moment before raising in volume again. The cries fill the tiny space of their room, making Vash shift to get up. It lasts for a few moments longer as he crawls out of bed before the cries quiet, turning into quiet coos.

“Need me to check?”

“No, I’ll get it,” Vash yawns.

Their bedroom door is open, a little more than their usual crack. Their compromise, Vash liking to sleep with the door shut, Wolfwood preferring it open.

Hand rubbing at his eyes, Vash stumbles over to the bed.

Eyes wide, his sleepiness seems to dissipate at the sight before him.

Kuroneko had found her way into the room, despite being kicked out of the crib prior. She’d meowed at the door for a minute, well behaved enough to know that she shouldn’t be in there at the time.

Now, both their son and daughter had their hands on her, fingers tightly gripping her fur. And Kuroneko purrs away, the noise seemingly soothing them both, their faces lax in sleep once more.

“Wolfwood, come look,” Vash whispers in awe. It seems that their babies liked her, as much as she likes them. Her eyes are nearly closed as she purrs, like she does when she’s sleeping.

“Well damn, now I feel bad for kicking her out,” Wolfwood chuckles.

“Guess we gotta let her stay,” Vash giggles, reaching into the crib to stroke at her fur. “Be mean not to.”

“If the babies like her,” Wolfwood agrees, massaging at Vash’s shoulder as they stand there, watching the littlest members of their family sleep.
