For the most part, a nature sprite’s favorite time was when they were in their prime. For springtime sprites, that meant the spring; for fall sprites, the fall; et cetera. Their time was when they were at their strongest, healthiest, most vibrant. But for Tanjiro - a daytime sprite through and through - his favorite times were by far dawn and twilight, those rare intersection points between daytime and night. As much as he enjoyed the daytime - and he did ; he wouldn’t be a daytime sprite if he didn’t revel in the warm sunlight and cerulean sky, the chirping of birds and the activity of so many living things - he couldn’t help but love the night.
Well…it wasn’t the night he loved.
Because those overlapping times? That was when his and Genya’s paths intersected, the brief times each day when they could be together. And that night? That was when Genya was utterly resplendent in the moonlight, a creature of the night just as much as Tanjiro was of the day.
They never had much time - usually an hour at most, sometimes more or less depending on the season, - and then the day started or ended, and they parted ways until the end or start of the next day. It wasn’t always the easiest, but it was the way things were, and they made every second count.
It was worth it, anyway. To see Genya, to spend even that brief time with him, it was worth it. Whether he was coming down from the high of daytime or Genya’s skin was still cool from the lingering chill of night - they clung to whatever time they had.
Day after day, night after night. Moon cycle after moon cycle - and Genya always did seem to glow a little more after a full moon - rotation around the sun after rotation around the sun. So it went, and Tanjiro was happy even on cloudy or winter-short days. Night and day; a perfect balance. Sun and moon; Tanjiro and Genya.
A perfect match.
