Work Text:
Eurydice was tired.
By the time she made it to their home, she was practically falling to her knees with exhaustion.
She threw her backpack onto the table, sinking in that she came home absolutely empty handed again. Eurydice knew Orpheus didn’t care, only hoping she would come home safe and sound, but it didn’t stop the pang of guilt rising in her chest day by day.
Orpheus was sat at the couch, glasses slightly tilted on his face, eyes narrowed even still. He was scribbling in his notepad, surely frantically writing another song, or maybe just anything that had popped into his head.
The sight of him made her sigh.
She shrugged her coat off, eyes bleary, not being able to handle how adorable he was.
They had been together for months, and grown even closer after her near death, but he still gave her the same butterflies he did on the first night they met.
He made her warm.
Orpheus finally heard her footsteps, looking up with pure adoration replacing the focus beforehand.
“Hi, love.” His voice was so soft and sweet, and it’s already too much. Eurydice doesn’t respond, only leaning down, crawling into his lap and grabbing his face with both hands, and kissing all over him.
Orpheus was frozen beneath her, seemingly flustered, but Eurydice didn’t notice beyond her lovesick daze.
“did you find anything?” Orpheus whispers, amused as she runs her hands through his curls, head buried into his neck.
“no,” her voice is crestfallen, and he wraps his arms around her waist, leaning back into the couch. “I missed you.”
his skin grows warmer with each kiss she presses onto his face and neck, murmuring a soft “awww” at the affection.
When they first got together, everything was taken slow. Eurydice wasn’t a touchy person, but Orpheus had truly opened her up being intimate alone, let alone in front of other people.
His presence, his acceptance, made her feel awfully comfortable.
Eurydice pulls back, holding his face in her cold hands. He has light lipstick marks smudged all across him, and it makes Eurydice laugh, her body shaking as she lays back onto his chest.
“What?” Orpheus sounds embarrassed, reaching up to feel the makeup smudged all across his cheeks, and he starts to laugh. “You’ve painted me!”
“You’re so cute!” she exclaims, a genuine smile forming on her face, and now it’s was Orpheus’ turn for his heart to melt.
Eurydice swipes her thumb at his face, trying and failing to remove the marks. Orpheus grabs her wrist, gently placing it down at her side, and holding her face.
“It’s okay,” those words seemed foreign to Eurydice before she met him. Forgiveness, even for the smallest thing. “I like it.”
she presses a kiss to his forehead, and clambers off his lap, still attached at his side. He lays against her, a hand softly rubbing across her back, Eurydice never wants to move again.
Orpheus doesn’t work on his song, only focusing on holding his girl. They hadn’t discussed marriage, other than when Orpheus told her she would be his wife on the first night they met.
He would never live that down.
They weren’t married in the legal sense, but they held each other’s hearts instead of rings. Promises replaced vows, and their small home just outside of the forest was everything they ever needed.
Eurydice sighed, realizing that she needed to bathe, but she was just too content. Orpheus noticed this, like he always did.
“do you want me to go?” he asks softly, some insecurity bleeding into his tone. She holds onto his shoulders, sitting up to face him.
“no, I just need to bathe. I don’t want to leave your side, though.”
She speaks with honesty, and Orpheus smiles, that stupid endearing smile, and speaks. “I’ll help you, then.”
With that Orpheus, stands and lifts Eurydice, arms hooking beneath her legs as he carries her to the bathroom. Eurydice would usually playfully fight this, but she didn’t. This time, she took her time to memorize his features.
She never wanted to look away from him ever again.
