Work Text:
We see the Freedom Fighters packing their bags, preparing for a trip.
Sally: Alright, is everyone ready for the trip to South Island?
Everyone confirms they’re ready. Rosie comes in, with a bag on her shoulder.
Rosie: Before you all head off, I think you should take this with you.
She pulls an odd looking device out of the bag.
Sonic: Woah, what the heck is that?
Rosie: It was something created by Sir Charles before… the incident. He called it a Ring Forge. Apparently, it has the ability to create a ring that can give whoever wields it incredible power. However, one can only be made every twelve hours.
Sonic: Way past cool! Thanks, Rose.
Sally places it into her bag.
Rosie: Oh, think nothing of it. It’s just with Robotnik out there, you can never be too careful.
Sonic: Relax, we can handle anything Robotnik decides to throw at us, no matter what it is!
At the Scrap Brain, we see the robots standing ready. From the skies above, a large red dirigible pieces the sky, before slowing down, and eventually stopping on its side. A door opens, and out comes Doctor Robotnik, with Cluck perched on his shoulders. Following him are Agent Stone and Snively. Snively stays behind to help dock the Sky Base while Robotnik and Stone walk further in, eventually reaching a command room.
Stone: Doctor, we’ve narrowed down the scanner to six locations on the island, including here. They should be where the emeralds are.
Robotnik: Six, Stone? That’s funny, because I remember there being SEVEN emeralds.
Stone: We’re, uh, still working on that one, doctor.
Robotnik: Oh, whatever. Six is better than none. Bring up the locations on the map.
Stone: Of course.
He turns on a screen, which shows a map of the island, with six locations being highlighted.
Robotnik: Very good! I’ll send the badniks out to those locations. You go with them to make sure they do their job.
Stone: Of course, doctor. But what about the Freedom Fighters? I doubt they’ll let you take the emeralds.
Robotnik: Oh don’t worry, Stone. I have a special plan for them.
He turns, and enters a small room. Stone follows behind. There are three tubes waiting inside, and a control pad connected to the pods.
Stone: Doctor, what are these?
Robotnik: These robots are the members of my Anti-Freedom Fighter Force, The Super Special Sonic Search & Smash Squad!
Stone: Excellent alliteration.
Robotnik: Thank you, Stone. Anyway, these three will be more than any of the others combined. They’re strong, fearless, ferocious, and, unlike the others, brilliant! Well, at least one of them is. But that should be enough. Now, to wake them up.
Robotnik presses a few buttons, and the pods open, revealing three robots. One appears to be a large robotic chicken, with an earpiece connected to its head. The second is a larger blue machine with a drill for a nose. The third is the smallest, and resembles a robotic monkey with a siren on its head, and a cannon for an arm. Eventually, they begin to stir.
Monkey Robot: Oh, my head… huh? Hey! You’re Doctor Robotnik! Does this mean I finally get to go to work?! Does this mean I finally get to blow stuff up?! Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah! I’m ready for it! Put me in, put me in Doc!
Robotnik: Patience, Coconuts. First, we have to wait for the others.
The Chicken Robot wakes up first
Chicken Robot: Oh… Where am I? What time is it?
He notices the others
Chicken Robot: Oh, hey Doctor! Who's the monkey?
Robotnik: He is your twin brother, Scratch, and so is he!
Scratch: My twins?!
He looks at Coconuts, then at the blue robot, who’s about to wake up
Scratch: Am I really that ugly?
Coconuts: Hey, who are you calling ugly, beaky?!
Scratch: Why don’t you get a stool and insult me to my face, short-stuff?
Coconuts: Why I oughta…
Robotnik: Quiet! Your third brother is waking up.
The blue robot wakes up, and looks around confused, before noticing the others.
Blue Robot: Oh, hi Doctor! Do you know who I am? Cause I don’t.
Robotnik: All will be explained, Grounder. Now all of you, line up against the wall, single file.
The three do as they’re told, lining up against the wall. Eventually, they begin talking amongst themselves.
Scratch: He made me first, I’m his favorite.
Grounder: Yeah? I got more accessories, he likes me best!
Coconuts: Big whoop! I bet you two can’t blow things up like I can!
Robotnik loudly clears his throat, causing the three to snap to attention.

Robotnik: Listen here, Dumb-bots! Somewhere on this island, there are seven gems of incredible power, known as the Chaos Emeralds, which I need in order to unlock the full potential of my secret weapon. However, there is a group working against us, known as the Freedom Fighters, who will attempt to take the emeralds from us. The badniks should be able to handle most of them, but there is one who won’t be so easily defeated; Sonic the Hedgehog! And that’s where you come in, my Super Special Sonic Search and Smash Squad. Your mission is to eliminate the hedgehog, and bring me the chaos emeralds!
Understand?
They all nod, before Grounder raises his hand.
Robotnik: Yes, Grounder?
Grounder: Well, I know we’re supposed to get the hedgehog and all, but uh, how are we gonna do it?
Robotnik pauses for a moment, before face palming.
Robotnik: You’re going to do it by utilizing each of your unique skills and abilities!
He pulls down a screen, with blueprints for each of the robots displayed on it
Robotnik: Scratch, you’re the leader. Your main priority is coming up with plans to defeat the Freedom Fighters. That’s why I gave you the most brain power of your squad. Grounder, you are the weapons expert. Your main objective is to use your wide arsenal of tools and weapons to obliterate your enemies. Coconuts, you are the look out. You will watch from a distance, and use your coconut bombs to deal damage from afar. Any other questions?
They all shake their heads.
Robotnik: Excellent! Now move out! I want the emeralds, and I want the hedgehog in my grasp! Go!
The robots jump, before scrambling to rush out of the room. They all get stuck in the door, but are pushed out by Stone. They all run off.
Robotnik: You better go with them, Stone. If they fail, which considering they were first activated a minute ago, they probably will, I want you to try and defeat the rodent.
Stone: I’ll do my best, Doctor. I promise.
Stone follows behind them. Robotnik notices Cluck scowling at the picture of Scratch’s blueprints.
Robotnik: Aw, what's wrong, Cluck? Feeling jealous? Well, don’t worry, I’ve only got room for one bird-brain in my metaphorical heart.
He begins to scratch Cluck’s chin, who smiles at Robotnik’s affection.
We see the heroes all make their way towards a red plane kept near Sonic’s house.
Sally: Sonic, are you sure about this?
Sonic: Relax, Sal, the Tornado’s never failed me before. We could take her to the ends of Mobius and back, and she’d be fine, now come on!
They all hop onto the plane. Sonic starts the plane up, and it takes off.
Bunnie: Who taught you how to fly anyway, Sugah-hog?
Sonic: My Uncle Chuck.
The plane soars off towards South Island.

The plane lands in the middle of the pastures. The heroes disembark, feeling the warm sun.
Sonic: Ah, I could get used to this.
Sally: Don’t get too comfortable Sonic, this isn’t a vacation. We’re here to train for when Robotnik attacks next.
Sonic: Relax, Sal. It’s been, what, two weeks since we busted his island base? What are the odds he’d attack us now?
Rotor: Guys, look!
They all look up. They see Buzzbombers carrying capsules, following Stone in the eggmobile.
Stone: Alright, head back to the base and drop the payload off. I’ll stay here and see if we can find what we’re really here for.
Sally: You had to say it, didn’t you?
Sonic: Okay, so maybe I got too comfortable. Right now, we’ve got an island to save, and some Ro-butt-nik to kick. Let’s do it to it!
They all run off in the direction of Stone. They run through the plains, defeating Robotnik’s badniks along the way, and gathering rings as they do so. Eventually, they catch up with Stone, who is looking at a device, seemingly confused.
Stone: Ugh, where is it? According to the radar, it should be right here! Maybe it's underground?
The Freedom Fighters are hiding in bushes.
Sonic: Alright, Sal, you’re the expert. Who is this guy, exactly?
Sally: Agent Stone, Robotnik’s “personal assistant”, though he’s basically a glorified secretary.
Sonic: Ah, got it.
He comes out of the bush.
Sonic: Yoohoo!
(Stone turns to look at him.)
Stone: Oh, it’s you. I was actually hoping I’d run into you, so I could repay you for the incident at the shack.
Sonic: Oh please, I could beat you with both hands tied behind my back, sleep walking!
Stone: Is that so? Well, why don’t we test that theory, huh?
(Stone charges at Sonic with the eggmobile, but he dodges, and jumps on Stone’s head as he does. This repeats a few more times.)
Stone: What the?!
Sonic jumps off Stone’s head, before hanging on to the side of the Eggmobile. He rips a panel off the side of the device, revealing several multicolor wires.
Sonic: Hey, these aren’t important, right?
Sonic rips all the wires out, before leaping off the Eggmobile, which is making sputtering noises.
Stone: Uh-oh.
The Eggmobile goes flying off with Stone still inside.
Sonic: I’ll take that as a no.
The others come to check on him
Sally: Are you alright?
Sonic: Oh yeah, that was easy peasy. He didn’t stand a chance. Now come on.
They move forward, eventually coming across a sign with Robotnik’s face on it.
Sonic: What the heck is this thing?
Sally: It’s probably some kind of marker.
Sonic: Yeah, well it’s a butt ugly one. How about I improve it?
He pulls out a spray can and turns the sign around. He begins to spray on it. Eventually, he stops and steps back, revealing a portrait of himself.
Sonic: Voila, a picture of hedgehog perfection.
Sally: Oh, brother.
They all begin to laugh, before a giant ring appears over the marker, startling everyone. Suddenly, a voice emanates from the ring.
Voice: To those who seek the Emerald, enter this ring.
Antoine: Eek! The ring is haunted!
Bunnie: So that there ring leads to some kind of emerald… Y'all think that’s what the doc was after?
Rotor: It must be.
Sonic: Well, if the doc wants it, we better make sure he doesn’t get it.
Sally: Good luck, Sonic.
Sonic: I won’t need luck, Sal. Just a lotta speed.
(Sonic jumps into the ring, before it disappears.)

Sonic wakes up in a strange place, filled with fishes and birds.
Sonic: Oh. man, this place is like something out of a dream!
Voice: Welcome to the special zone, visitor.
Sonic: Woah, who’s there?!
Suddenly, a large face that seems to be made from electricity appears in front of Sonic.
Omni: Don’t be afraid, hedgehog. I am Omni the Viewer, master of the Special Zone.
Sonic: Special Zone?
Omni: It exists outside of time and space, where the Chaos Emeralds are kept hidden from mortals like yourself. It can only be accessed by reaching a certain requirement, which I determine. This time, because you have gathered fifty rings, and have reached the designated location of the portal, you have earned the right to try and obtain my emerald.
Sonic: Really? Sweet! So, uh, where is it?
Omni: I didn’t say I would give it to you. If you want it, you must complete my trial to reach it.
Sonic: That's it, huh? Alright, Omni, bring it on!
Omni: Very well. Let the trial for the emerald commence!
Suddenly, Sonic is transported to a rotating labyrinth. He makes his way through the maze, before reaching the emerald, smashing through the barrier protecting it.
Omni: Well done. You have completed the trial, and thus, the Emerald is yours.
Sonic: Hey, nice! So, what exactly do these Emeralds do, exactly?
Omni: The emeralds have the ability to grant power to those who wield them. They can be used either to bring either salvation, or terrible destruction. However, it is important that all seven of the emeralds be used, or their power will be imbalanced, and there is no telling what might occur if that happens.
Sonic: Woah, so that’s why Robotnik wants them. Thanks for the lesson, Omni, but I gotta get going. Mind letting me out of here?
Omni: Of course. Fair well, Hedgehog.
Sonic: So long! And by the way, you can call me Sonic, alright?
Omni: Very well, Sonic.
Sonic leaves through another ring, and reappears at the Freedom Fighters.
Sally: Sonic, are you alright? What happened in there?
Sonic: Well, I hope you like long stories.
He proceeds to tell them what happened.
Rotor: So, by getting fifty rings, we can get the Emeralds before Robotnik?
Sonic: Yeah. And if what Omni said is true, letting Robotnik get his hands on the emeralds means bad news for all of us. So we gotta make sure that doesn’t happen. Let’s keep going.
The Freedom Fighters take off, not noticing a chameleon robot watching them.
Elsewhere, Stone is watching a tablet, which shows a camera recording from the chameleon’s point of view. He replays the part where Rotor mentions the rings and smirks, before activating an earpiece.
Robotnik: Stone, I assume you have something to report.
Stone: Well, I’ve got good news and bad news, doctor.
Robotnik: Start with the bad.
Stone: I encountered the hedgehog, and he beat me in a fight.
Robotnik: Of course he did.
Stone: Also, he has an Emerald.
Robotnik: What?! Oh, for the love of- do I have to do everything around here?! I guess I’ll have to send some reinforcements your way, since you're too incompetent to do anything on your own. In the meantime, you said you had some good news, Stone?
Stone: They know how to get to the Emeralds. And that means so do we.
Robotnik: Go on…
The Freedom Fighters are making their way through the hills, when an exploding coconut lands in front of them, with all of them stopping just in time.
Sonic: Woah, what was that?!
Coconuts: “That” was ME, hedgehog!
They look up at one of the trees and see Coconuts hanging off one of the branches, laughing at them.
Sally: Who are you supposed to be?
Coconuts: The names Coconuts, toots, and in the name of Doctor Robotnik, I’m declaring open season on all do-gooders, starting with you!
He aims at Sally, before firing. She manages to dodge it.
Sonic: Lets book it!
They all begin to run
Coconuts: Oh! Rich, rich! This is so rich!
He begins to follow them, firing coconuts at them, which they all manage to dodge.
Coconuts: You can run, but you can’t hide!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cerFSyaXIfQ
Elsewhere, Grounder is digging a hole with his drill hands. Eventually, he finishes, climbing out. Afterwards, Scratch places a sheet covered in grass and leaves over it, hiding it. Eventually, he gets a signal from his earpiece.
Coconuts: They're on your way, guys! Get ready!
Scratch: They’re coming! Quick, in position!
The two hide in a bush to the side.
Scratch: Dr. Robotnik will be so proud of me!
Grounder: He’ll be prouder of me!
Eventually, the Freedom Fighters come running, still chased by Coconuts. Eventually, Sonic and Bunnie step over the trap, and fall into the hole.
Rotor: Guys!
Scratch: Baha-haha! My plan worked! They’re trapped!
Grounder: Yeah, cuz of MY hole!
The two bots come out of the bush.
Sally: Oh great, more robots!
Scratch: We’re not just any old robots, lady! I’m Scratch, the fowl genius!
Grounder: And I’m Grounder, the walking arsen… uh, arsen… uh, arsen…, Robot!
Coconuts: And you know who I am; Coconuts, the simian sniper!
Scratch: And together, we are…
All Three: The Super Sonic Search & Smash Squad!
There is no reaction from the Freedom Fighters, other than the sounds of Sonic snickering from the hole.
Coconuts: I was kinda hoping they’d be more impressed.
Antoine: Listen here, you fuel-ish machines! You will be freeing Sonic and miss Rabbot, or you will be feeling the wrath of my blade!
Grounder: Is that… bad?
Antoine: It seems zat you will be finding out!
Sally: Antoine, wait!
Antoine charges at Grounder, swinging his sword… only for it to bounce off harmlessly. He looks shocked, before repeatedly bringing his sword down, to similar results. Grounder begins to laugh.
Grounder: Stop it, that tickles!
Eventually, Antoine stops swinging, his face going white.
Grounder: You done? Okay, my turn!
Grounder turns one of his hands into a fist, and punches Antoine, sending him flying into Rotor, who both crash into a tree.
Sally: Antoine! Rotor!
She attempts to get to them, but is stopped by Coconuts.
Coconuts: Oh no, you ain't going anywhere!
The three attempt to grab Sally, but she sweeps Scratch under his legs, knocking him down. She attempts to make a run for it, but is grabbed by Grounder.
Grounder: I got her, I got her!
Meanwhile in the hole, Sonic and Bunnie overhear what's going on.
Sonic: Oh man, sounds like they're in some mondo trouble!
Bunnie: Hold on, sugah, I can get us outta here!
Sonic: You do that Bunnie. I’ve got another idea.
Sonic curls into a ball and begins burrowing in the dirt. Bunnie uses her stilt legs to get out of the hole.
Bunnie: Hey tin-men! Why don’t you pick on someone your own size?!
Grounder turns to Bunnie, before tossing Sally to Coconuts and charging at Bunnie. When he attempts to tackle her, she extends her legs, causing him to fall on his face. Bunnie picks him up and throws him at a tree, stunning him. Coconuts attempts to shoot at Bunnie, but Sally elbows him in the face, causing him to aim at the ground. Sally jumps away, while Coconuts is blown towards Grounder. Scratch gets up, and is prepared to attack, but is distracted by a rumbling behind him. Sonic bursts out of the ground, and revs up, before jumping at Scratch, curling into a ball, and sending him towards the other two. The three get up, still dazed, until Coconuts begins stamping his foot in rage.
Coconuts: Ooohh! No half baked hedgehog’s gonna make a monkey outta me! No way, no way!
He fires another coconut bomb at Sonic. However, he catches it, before throwing it back at the three.
Sonic: Return to sender!
The three scream, before the bomb explodes, sending bits and pieces of the three flying. Sonic begins bowing to an imaginary audience.
Sonic: Thank you, thank you, you’re all too kind!
Sally: Thanks for the help, Sonic. You did great too, Bunnie.
Bunnie: Aw, tweren't nothing, Sally-girl.
Rotor and Antoine come over, having recovered from the attack.
Rotor: Sorry we weren't much help in the fight, guys.
Antoine: Oui.
Sally: It's alright, guys. Those bot’s were tougher than the average badnik. You couldn’t have known. And besides, it was really brave of you to stand up to them, Antoine.
Antoine blushes
Antoine: Yes, well, I was merely performing my duties as your defender, my princess.
Sonic: Right. Now let’s get moving, before Ro-butt-nik gets too comfortable.
The Freedom Fighters run off, leaving the three heads of the bots behind, not noticing they're still active, and transmitting a signal to the other badniks. The team keeps running, moving through the hills, before they come across a shocking sight: Robotnik himself, in his egg mobile. He notices them, and moves downwards.
Robotnik: Ah, there you are, rodent. I knew you’d show up sooner or later.
Sonic: Well, if it isn’t the big cheese himself! Well, more like the big egg, heh heh heh!
Robotnik: Why you little…!
He pauses, then takes a deep breath. He then presses a button on his eggmobile, causing a giant wrecking ball attached to a chain to fall out. A horde of badniks appear from all around and surround the heroes.
Robotnik: Look, I’m in a generous mood right now, so I’ll make you a deal: Hand over the emerald, and I won’t crush you like a bug!
Sonic: Hmm… that sounds like a pretty good deal to me…
Sally: Sonic!
Sonic: Kidding, kidding. Sorry, Eggman, but no dice.
Robotnik: The name is Dr. Robotnik, you flea ridden…!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNSsLA_ye7Y
(He charges at Sonic, swinging the ball under the Eggmobile. Sonic dodges the ball, then runs under it, jumping on one of the platforms floating above the ground. Robotnik comes over, but Sonic jumps at the machine, damaging it. This cycle repeats as the heroes are fighting the badnik horde, with the last one being defeated as Sonic beats Robotnik. Sonic gets up on the eggmobile.
Sonic: Man, that was way easier than I thought it would be! You should get some tougher stuff, doc.
Sonic attempts to grab Robotnik, but the head is attached to a spring. It was a fake, and the real Robotnik talks through a speaker in its mouth.
Robotnik: Gotcha! Did you really think I’d waste my time with you when I’ve got an empire to run? Still, it’s nice to know my duplicates work as intended. Now listen up, Freedom Fighters! This is still far from over! I WILL defeat you, and I WILL have the Emeralds!
Sonic: Heh, bring it on, Eggman!
The duplicate deactivates. They proceed forwards, finding an animal capsule.
Sally: This must be where Robotnik keeps the animals he captures.
Sonic: Alright, stand back guys.
Sonic jumps onto the large button on top of the capsule, causing the animals to go free.
Sonic: Alright, we’ve still got six more emeralds to find, so let's keep going!
The heroes proceed, determined to see their mission through.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cerFSyaXIfQ
Elsewhere, we see the S6 finish being repaired by SWATbots.
Coconuts: Hey, hey, easy! I’m a delicate machine!
A bot with a screen approaches the three. The screen has Robotnik’s face on it, and he’s not happy.
Robotnik: Idiots! I built you to capture Sonic, and THAT was your best idea?! That stunt wouldn’t work in a CARTOON!
Scratch: Sorry, boss! It was our first time doing this! We’ll get better, we swear!
Robotnik: You’d better, or I’ll make you all regret it. Now, I’ve transferred the Freedom Fighters location to your memory banks, so get moving!
The three get to their feet as the screen goes dark.
Coconuts: Aw man, how are we gonna catch up with them? They're miles away!
Grounder: Oh, I’ve got an idea!
Scratch: Really? That’s a first.
Grounder: Aw, shut up and grab on.
Coconuts grabs onto Grounder’s neck, while Scratch wraps his arms around Grounder’s back.
Coconuts: Alright, now what?
Grounder: Nothing, just hang on!
His arms turn into jets and he flies off, with Scratch and Coconuts screaming in fear the whole time.

Bridge Zone
We see the Freedom Fighters on a cliffside connected to a bridge. Sally is looking down at Nicole, who is displaying a map.
Sally: Alright, according to the map, these bridges should take us directly to the Marble Ruins Zone. According to legend, it used to be an ancient city called Maga, before a terrible accident happened, and the city was deserted. It’s also the location of the Secret Scrolls.
Sonic: Secret what?
Sally: My father told me the Scrolls had great powers, but that no one has ever been able to find them.
Sonic: Guess that's why they're called SECRET Scrolls.
Sally: Well, I think we can find them.
Sonic: Well, we’ve gotta get there first. Come on, guys!
The heroes make their way across the Bridge Zone. Eventually, they’re interrupted when they see something in the sky.
Rotor: What is that? A shooting star?
Sally: Can’t be, it's daytime.
Sonic: Still think we should make a wish?
Antoine: Is it only to moi, or is it getting closer?!
Sonic: Oh, man, take cover!
The object gets closer to them, eventually revealed to be Grounder, with Scratch and Coconuts holding on for dear life, still screaming. It almost hits the heroes, but they’re able to avoid it. They peer into the hole. Scratch is on his feet, dazed, Grounder is on the floor seeing stars, and Coconuts is half buried in the ground.
Grounder: Hehehehe, again, again!
Scratch: Next time, warn us before you do something crazy like that, bolt-brain!
Grounder: Hey, it's not my fault! You never asked!
Coconuts: Will you two stop fighting and get me outta here already?!
Sonic looks at the others and winks, before sliding down the hole and moving towards Coconuts. He grabs him by the tail, and yanks him upwards, pulling him out.
Sonic: That better, pal?
Coconuts: Oh, yeah, thanks a lot, buddy!
Coconuts does a double take upon seeing Sonic. He screams, causing Sonic to drop him. Coconuts runs over to the others.
Coconuts: It’s him! It’s him it’s him it’s him it’s him it’s him!
He attempts to shoot at Sonic, but he merely kicks the bomb into the air.
Sonic: Well, I’d love to stay and chat, but me and my pals have gotta go, so adios!
He runs up the hole, and rejoins the others.
Sonic: Come on guys, let’s juice!
The heroes run around the hole and further down the path. The S6 scramble up the hole.
Scratch: After them!
The three run off, with Coconuts sitting on top of Grounder’s head, trying to shoot the heroes as they run. Eventually, they come across another bridge. As the heroes are crossing, Coconuts gets an idea.
Coconuts: Grounder, chuck me over to the other side of the bridge! I’ll cut em off!
Grounder: Okay! Go long!
He grabs Coconuts by the head, and throws him as hard as he can, causing him to sail over Sonic’s head. While most of the heroes are able to get over, Sonic is stuck between Coconuts and the others.
Scratch: Baha-haha! Got you cornered!
Grounder: Yeah, you can’t run away now!
Coconuts: Oh, I’m gonna get a big time promotion for this one!
Sonic: Oh no, I’m cornered! If only there was someone who could cut the bridge! Someone with, oh I don’t know, a SWORD?
The heroes look towards Antoine, who has a look of confusion on his face.
Bunnie: That means you, Sugah-Twain.
Antoine: I am knowing that. But if I am cutting the bridge, will Sonic not be falling to his doom?
Sonic: I’ll be fine, Ant, just do it!
Antoine, still looking nervous, raises his sword, and cuts through one of the bridge ropes. The bridge flips on its side, with all four people on it clinging on to the side. Sonic pulls himself up onto the side, balancing on the wood.
Sonic: Sal, you know that Ring forge thing Rosie gave us?
Sally: Yeah?
Sonic: Now would be the time to bust it out!
Sally: Right!
She pulls the device out of the bag. She notices a button on the side of the device. She presses it, and the machine activates. Two beams of light from the magnet on the machine merge, coalescing into a power ring. It looks similar to the other rings, but it is larger. While this is happening, Scratch and Coconuts pull themselves onto the sides of the bridge, while Grounder still hangs on.
Scratch: I’ll get Sonic, you get the others!
Coconuts: Right!
Coconuts turn towards the heroes, aiming his cannon at them.
Coconuts: Say goodnight, Gracie!
Sonic: Guys, now!
Antoine cuts the second rope, while Sally throws the ring at Sonic, who leaps off Coconut's head to grab it. As he does, the bridge falls towards the other side, the S6 still hanging on. Scratch and Coconuts manage to grab on to the sides, and they all turn and grab onto the bridge. While this is happening, Sonic grabs the ring, becoming imbued with its power. He rushes up the side of the cliff, rejoining with the team.
Sonic: Oh, man, that felt way, WAY past cool!
He pulls out the ring.
Sonic: I’ve gotta feeling this thing’s gonna be real helpful.
The heroes all look back at the S6, who are climbing the bridge like a ladder to get to the cliff.
Sally: Think we need to worry about them?
Sonic: Nah, we’ll be fine. Let’s juice.
They run off, leaving the S6 to eat their dust on the other side.
Scratch: Grounder, Use your jets to get us over there!
Grounder: I can’t, I’m outta fuel!
Scratch throws up his arms in exasperation, before kicking a rock at Grounder.
Grounder: Hey! Why I outta…
He retaliates by pecking Scratches back. As the two continue to argue, Coconuts sits on a rock and sighs.
Coconuts: What I’d do to deserve this?
The heroes continue down the path, until they come across a small island, floating in a lake. Suddenly, they hear a familiar voice.
Stone: You again.
They look up to see Stone, flying on a jetpack.
Sonic: Well, look who it is. What’s wrong, didn’t get your butt kicked hard enough back in Green Hills? Why don’t you just go back to the Egghead, save yourself the wrecked machine?
Stone: Normally, I would. I mean, I’m not really much of a fighter, I’m more of a… “backstage” kinda villain. But you see, I promised the Doctor I’d do my best to defeat you. And I never break my promises, especially the ones I make to him.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njCdnG9B4TQ
He pulls out a remote, and presses a button on it. Instantly, a large machine jumps out of one of the water holes, pulling him in. The machine emerges from the lake, firing laser balls at the heroes. Sonic jumps across onto the island, before attacking. This repeats a few more times, before Sonic yawns.
Sonic: Oh man, are you even TRYING?
Under the island, Stone is reconsidering his approach.
Stone; Okay, clearly this isn’t working. Time for a change of pace!
Sonic is waiting on the island. Suddenly, the machine leaps from the water, sailing over the island, raining energy balls on Sonic, who dodges them. Stone jumps again, but Sonic attacks. This repeats a few more times, until eventually, the machine takes too much damage after an attack. Under the lake, it begins to spark and shake. Stone attempts to push the buttons inside, but nothing works. Eventually, he sighs, and the machine explodes, creating a geyser and sending Stone flying away. Sonic wipes his hands.
Sonic: Second verse, same as the first!
The others join him on the island, before they all head to the right, where they find another sign. Sonic spins it around and graffiti’s it.
Sally: Are you gonna do that to every one of these things we find?
Sonic: Why, yes I am, thank you for asking.
Another ring appears over Sonic’s head.
Sonic: Hang on guys, just gotta grab another Emerald real quick.
He hops into the ring, and a few minutes later reappears.
Sonic: Alright, two down, five to go. Come on guys. Next stop, the Marble Ruins.
The heroes proceed onwards.
Stone wakes up, and sees Snively in the Eggmobile with a smug expression.
Snively: How embarrassing. The doctor’s right hand, sleeping on the job. What would he say if he found out?
Stone: I wasn’t sleeping, I was unconscious.
Snively: Let me guess: another failed battle with the hedgehog?
Stone: Oh please, like yours went any better. Besides, I didn’t see you helping out.
Snively: That’s because I was doing something important. I did some research on the zone ahead of us, and according to what I’ve found, it contains a secret that could give whoever finds it great power.
Stone: Really? Well, if this secret is real, it could come in handy for the doctor.
Snively: Yes, of course, for him.
Stone: Look, since we’re both already here, why don’t we look for the secret together? It should make finding it easier.
Snively: Fine, but only if you tell him looking for it was my idea.
Stone: Of course, partner.
The two shake hands, a tense silence between them. Eventually, Stone hops in the Eggmobile, and the pair head off to the Marble Ruins.

Marble Zone
The heroes arrive in the Ruins, and observe their surroundings.
Bunnie: Woah. Now this place is truly amazing.
Antoine walks around, seeing the sights, but almost falls into a pool of lava. He jumps back, shaken.
Sonic: Woah, careful there, Ant. You almost got deep fried.
Sally: I’m guessing this lava has something to do with why this place was abandoned. Come on guys, let's keep going. And be careful.
The heroes proceed through the Ruins, avoiding the lava and badniks around the area. Eventually, they come across a large stone, with hieroglyphics written on it.
Bunnie: What’s it say, Sally-girl?
Sally: I don’t know. It’s the ancient language of Mobius. Nicole, can you translate?
Nicole: Translation: We do not see things as they are. We see things as WE are.
Antoine: Well, I am shoeless.
Sonic: You mean clueless, Ant.
Sally: Well, maybe it’ll make more sense later. Let’s keep going.
They keep going, eventually finding a large temple.
Bunnie: Oh mah stars, this must be the place!
Sally: It is. C’mon!
They enter the temple, where they see two pedestals. One glows with a golden light, while the other seems to be made of wood.
Rotor: Sally, why are there TWO pedestals?
Sally: One is a fake. If we approach the wrong platform, the temple will explode.
Antoine: Explode?! Well, if that is to be ze case, perhaps it will be best if I am waiting outside? To keep the guard, of course.
Antoine heads back out the entrance. Sonic approaches the pedestals.
Sonic: Man, they sure don’t make this easy.
Sally: Somewhere, there’s an answer.
Bunnie: Hey, what about those hieroglyphics Nicole’s been translating?
Sally: Yes, Yes, that’s it! We each see things differently…
Rotor: We do?
Sally: Yes! We overcame the lava and the badniks with our intelligence.
Sonic: Thank you, thank you.
Bunnie: Then this is the second degree of awareness, spirit!
Sonic: Yo, that's us, the Freedom Fighters!
Rotor: Yeah, we’re survivors!
They all look at the object made of wood.
Everyone: That’s it!
Sally: Only one way to find out.
She approaches the object.
Sally: I can do this…
She reaches her hand forward, and pulls out the scrolls. Nothing happens, and they all breathe a sigh of relief. Bunnie walks over and takes one of the scrolls, with Sally opening the other.
Bunnie: What’s it say, Sally-girl?
Sally: Nicole, translate.
Nicole: Accessing. “The secret scrolls of Maga contained herein are the Seven Wonders of Mobius. Powerful, natural wonders but dangerous if misused. The first wonder is the lava ocean, called “the blood of Mobius”.
Sonic: Cool, what’s next?
Sally: Courage.
Sonic: Say what?
Sally: There are three degrees of awareness. The last is a test of courage.
Antoine: Sonic! Princess! Come quick!
The heroes rush out. They see Snively and Stone in the Eggmobile in front of the temple, followed by a Swatbot squad.
Stone: Surprise!
Snively: Thank you ever so much for retrieving the scrolls for me- us, princess. Now, if you know what's good for you, you’ll hand them over!
Sonic: That ain’t gonna happen, Slime-ly! You snooze, you lose!
Sonic turns and whispers to the others.
Sonic: Guys, when I juice, run for it.
Sally: Be careful, Sonic.
He turns back to the villains.
Sonic: Listen, I’d love to hang with you bot-heads, but I’ve gotta run!
He runs off. Snively turns to Stone.
Snively: You get the scrolls. I’ll handle the rat.
Stone: Alright.
Stone hops down from the Eggmobile, which heads after Sonic. The others run off.
Stone: After them!
Stone and the Swatbots run after the heroes. Sonic continues to run from Snively, who shoots fireballs from a cannon on the bottom of The Eggmobile. Eventually, large pillars emerge, closing Sonic in.
Snively: Well, rodent, this time it’s just you and me.
Sonic: I know. I’m thrilled.
Snively: Adieu, hedgehog!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNSsLA_ye7Y
Snively fires the cannon., causing a small fire ball to come out. On contact with the ground, a brief explosion occurs, before dissipating. He attempts to move closer to Sonic, but is attacked. This is repeated.
Sonic: Man, you’re even worse than Robotnik. At least he got some hits in.
Snively: Why you–!
Snively presses a button on a remote, causing a third platform to rise from the lava pit in the center of the arena. Suddenly, lava begins to pour from the hole, forcing Sonic to jump on the platform. Soon, it is all he can stand on. Snively attempts to drop a fireball on him, but Sonic jumps to the side of the arena, and clings onto the wall. Snively moves to the other side, and rotates the cannon to the side of the Eggmobile. Sonic jumps off the wall as Snively fires, delivering many attacks, before the Eggmobile malfunctions, and the cannon falls off.
Snively: Ahh! You… You’ll pay for this!
Snively flies off, and the walls come down.
Sonic: All right! I hope the others are doing okay.
Stone and the Swatbots have lost the heroes, and are looking for them.
Stone: Alright, split up, they have to be around here somewhere.
They split up, not noticing the heroes hiding behind some pillars.
Bunnie: Great hiding place, Antoine!
Antoine: B-but natural, non? I am always knowing whatever I am doing.
Sally: Come on.
The heroes leave. Eventually, they catch up with Sonic, who is resting on the ground, but jumps up when he sees them.
Sonic: Man, am I glad to see all of you. Now come on, this place is starting to get old.
They proceed onwards, freeing a capsule on the way.
Sonic: Where to now?
Sally: According to the map, the nearest location is the Spring Yard Zone.
Sonic: Allright, let's book it!
The heroes head towards their new location.
Elsewhere, Snively is fixing the Eggmobile, when Stone and the bots approach him.
Stone: Let me guess: another failed battle with the hedgehog?
Snively: Oh be quiet, you. I assume you didn’t manage to retrieve the scrolls?
Stone: Well, no.
Snively: Perfect. Then this whole thing was for nothing.
Suddenly, Snively’s communicator springs to life, Robotnik’s voice on the other end.
Robotnik: Snively! Come in! Where are you?! Snively!
Stone reaches over and grabs the device, despite Snively attempting to stop him.
Stone: Evening, Doctor.
Robotnik: Stone?! What’s going on?! Where’s Snively?! Where are YOU?!
Stone: The Marble Ruins, Doctor, both of us.
Robotnik: What?! But I told you to stay in the Bridge Zone! Are you saying you abandoned your posts?!
Stone: Well, yes, but Snively said there was a secret there that could benefit us. It was all his idea.
Robotnik: Really? Why don’t both of you head back to Scrap Brain. I’ll decide what to do with you then.
The communicator deactivates, with Snively glaring at Stone.
Stone: What? I thought you wanted him to know it was your idea.
Grumbling angrily, Snively activates the Eggmobile, and flies back to Scrap Brain.
Back at the Scrap Brain, the two are standing in front of Robotnik. Snively is shaking like a leaf, while Stone is merely sweating.
Robotnik: Snively, I’m going to give you one chance to explain your idea before I decide what to do with you. So you’d better not screw it up.
Snively: W-w-well s-sir, I d-did some research on the area, and I discovered a legend about a secret that could lead to great power-
Robotnik: Legend?! You mean you not only abandoned your post, but dragged Stone along with you, to go hunting after a FAIRY TALE?!
Snively falls onto his back.
Snively: Sir, please! The secret was real, it was a pair of scrolls, but the Freedom Fighters got them first! We tried our best, but we couldn’t get them, I swear!
Robotnik pauses.
Robotnik: Really? Is that true, Stone?
Snively turns to Stone, a look of pleading in his eyes.
Stone: Yes doctor, every word of it.
Robotnik sighs, before standing up from his chair.
Robotnik: Well, in that case, I suppose I can be more… forgiving then I normally would.
Snively sags in relief.
Snively: Thank you, Sir!
Robotnik: Oh, shut up, Snively. Since the two of you made such a good team, why don’t you both head to the Spring Yard with me to retrieve the Emerald there?
Snively: Oh, sir, really, that-that won’t be necessary.
Robotnik: Oh, please, I insist. Now come on, we’ve got an emerald to get.
Robotnik walks off, with Cluck still perched on his shoulder. The two subordinates glare at each other, before they follow him.
Spring Yard Zone
Later, in the Spring Yard, we see Robotnik, Stone, and Snively standing near a marker. Cluck is sleeping on the Eggmobile, which has many rings inside of it.
Robotnik: Alright, we only need a few more rings until we can open the way to the emerald, right?
Stone: Right.
Snively: Here they come, sir.
We see Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts come running towards Robotnik, each with rings in their hands. However, they trip, and drop all the rings they gathered, which Stone begins to pick up.
Scratch: Here are your rings, your excellent-ness.
Robotnik sighs, before beginning to count the rings he has now.
Robotnik: Forty Seven, Forty Eight, Forty Nine, Fifty! That’s all the rings I need! Now, all I have to do is…
He walks over to the marker and spins it, causing a large ring to appear.
Robotnik: Bingo.
He walks over to the Eggmobile, waking up Cluck, and activates it.
Robotnik: Alright, I’m going in. Wish me luck.
He drives through the ring, entering the Special Zone.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1TKmUKIgSs
Robotnik enters the zone, clearly confused.
Robotnik: Okay, if I were in Emerald in… whatever this place is, where would I be?
Suddenly, a voice booms across the plain.
Omni: Back so soon, Sonic? Well, I… Oh, my apologies, I thought you were someone else.
Robotnik: W-what the heck are you?!
Omni: I am Omni the Viewer, master of the Special Zone.
Robotnik: Special Zone? Well, that’s one word for it…
Omni: It exists outside of time and space, where-
Robotnik: Save the speech and tell me where the Emerald is!
Omni: Oh… well, if you want an emerald, you must complete a trial to earn it.
Robotnik: A trial? Alright, I’ll play your game.
Omni: Then let the trial for the emerald commence!
Suddenly, Robotnik is transported to a maze, much like Sonic was.
Robotnik: Hah! This is it? I could beat this in my sleep!
Robotnik proceeds to make his way through the trial, eventually getting his hands on an emerald.
Robotnik: Yes! I’ve got it!
Omni: Well done. You have completed the trial, and thus, the Emerald is yours.
Robotnik: Excellent! Now, if you’d be so kind?
Another portal ring appears.
Robotnik: Pleasure doing business with you, Omni-Viewer!
Robotnik leaves the Special Zone.
Robotnik re-emerges.
Stone: Did you get it, Doctor?
Robotnik holds the emerald in his hands, showing it off to everyone.
Robotnik: Did you ever doubt me?
Snively: Of course not, Sir.
Robotnik: That’s what I thought. Now, I’m going to take this back to the Scrap Brain, so the rest of you deal with the Freedom Fighters when they show up.
Robotnik takes off, and the other villains disperse.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YThWRP8dra8
The heroes arrive at the yard, and survey their surroundings.
Sonic: Oh, man! This place is a grade-A dump!
Sally: It wasn’t always like this. It used to be a pretty nice place, full of water and plants. Before Robotnik started dumping all his scrap metal here.
Sonic: That guy’s the worst!
Sally: I know, and that’s why we’re going to stop him. Come on.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njCdnG9B4TQ
The heroes begin to traverse the Spring Yard, avoiding the enemy’s and badniks they face along the way. Eventually, they come across an area with many odd blocks making up the floor. Suddenly, they notice Stone flying above them on the Eggmobile. He looks down at them, and without a word, he brings it down and charges at Sonic, who dodges and attacks Stone. As he flies above the heroes, he presses a button on a remote, causing some off the blocks to start flashing. The heroes quickly get off the flashing blocks, which quickly move downwards, before reappearing once Stone attacks again. This cycle repeats itself until Stone is defeated and retreats.
Sonic: Man, is it just me, or is he getting easier and easier to beat?
They proceed to the location of the marker. Sonic spins it and graffiti’s it. However, no ring appears.
Antoine: Er, where is zee haunted ring?
Sally: What do you think happened?
Rotor: Maybe someone already got to it.
Bunnie: But the only other person looking for the emeralds is-
Sonic: Robotnik. Oh man, if he’s got an emerald, we’re all in big trouble.
Rotor: Well, we’ve still got two, so all we have to do is steal his and find the others, right?
Sally: Right. Let’s keep going.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cerFSyaXIfQ
The heroes keep going down the path. While they are doing this, the S6 are preparing for them. Coconuts is working on a large cannon device, built from the scrap metal lying around.
Coconuts: Oh yeah, oh yeah! Once the hedgehog shows, it’s showtime!
As he tightens one of the cannons legs with a wrench, he falls down, with the cannon falling down on top of him.
Coconuts: Get it off of me!
However, he manages to push the device off of himself. Grounder comes by, carrying a large piece of metal.
Grounder: What’s the matter Coconuts, pressure getting to ya?
He places the scrap in a makeshift catapult next to four others, each with large balls of scrap in them.
Scratch: Baha-haha! Why bother? Once I get my Sonic-Snatcher locked and loaded, it’ll be hedgehog harvest time!
As he says this, he pushes a large claw attached to a spring into a machine. However, the claw grabs him. He attempts to stand up, only to fall down under the weight of the machine.
Grounder: Don’t bet on it, beak-face! Doctor Robotnik’s counting on ME to bring that high-speed hedgehog a crushing defeat!
However, after he says that, a ball of scrap on the catapults falls and lands on Grounder’s foot, causing him to yelp in pain. Once he pulls it out, he bounces on the other in pain.
Coconuts: Shh, don’t go to pieces on us now!
He puts a hand to his ear.
Coconuts: Listen.
The others join him, catching the sound of the heroes approaching.
Scratch: Alright, places everybody! Grounder, you prepped the distraction, right?
Grounder: Course I did, now come on!
As the heroes approach, they notice something. A chili dog, resting on a table in the middle of the open.
Sally: …Okay, so this is obviously a trap, right?
Everyone agrees.
Sonic: And there's only one group of bots I know dumb enough to think this’ll work. And I’ve got a plan to take-em down!
Sonic brings the others into a huddle, and whispers his plan to them. They all agree and disperse. Sonic moves toward the dog.
Sonic: Why look! A chili dog! All alone, out here in the middle of nowhere! How incredibly fortunate, because I’m SO hungry!”
As this is happening, the S6 prepare their weapons.
Grounder: He’s falling for it!
Scratch: Just stay there one more second, hedgehog, and you’ll be my ticket to a rich reward from Doctor Robotnik!
He turns around and screams, seeing Rotor by his machine.
Rotor: Hey, this is a pretty cool machine! Mind if I test it out?
He pushes the red button on the controller, causing the claw to shoot out and grab Scratch. Rotor then pulls the levers on it, causing the claw to move and hit Grounder, also picking him up. Next, he uses it to smash and grab Coconuts, before slamming them down on the table where Sonic was, now munching the chili dog and enjoying the show. Antoine then fires the catapults, crushing them under three balls of scrap. Finally, after they crawl out from under the scrap, Sally blasts them with Coconut’s cannon, sending them flying. From where he was standing before, Sonic is applauding.
Sonic: Bravo, bravo! Encore, encore! Oh, man, that was even better than I thought it’d be!
Sally: That was a great plan Sonic.
Rotor: Yeah, good job.
Antoine: Well, I am supposing it was well thought out enough, by YOUR standards.
Sonic: Gee, thanks guys. Now come on, let's keep going. Time and Eggman wait for no one.
They keep going, eventually finding their way to an area which is quickly blocked off by large walls coming out of the ground.
Sonic: Uh-oh, I’ve seen this trick before.
Suddenly, the Eggmobile comes crashing down, with a spring attached to its bottom. Snively is piloting it.
Sonic: Haven’t you learned your lesson, Needlenose?
Snively:I said this wasn’t over, and I meant it. And now, I’m going to flatten you!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNSsLA_ye7Y
He begins to hop after Sonic, who runs under the spring, before turning back and charging into Snively, causing him to fly back.
Sonic: Man, I think this one’s even lamer then the one back at the ruins. I’d say you were losing your touch, but that implies you had one in the first place.
Snively: I’ll show you what I have, you wretched, miserable…
He presses a button on the Eggmobile, causing the spring to retract, and a large spike to take his place.
Snively: I’ll skewer you!
He plunges the spike into the ground, digging up a large block from the ground. He flies over to Sonic and attempts to drop it on him, but Sonic gets out of the way. Snively attempts to drop down on Sonic, who dodges again, before rapidly attacking Snively. Eventually, Snively gets the block out of the ground, and attempts to drop it on Sonic, but he dodges, jumps onto the wall, and attacks the Eggmobile again. This is repeated until the Eggmobile breaks, and Snively is sent flying.
Sonic: Me two, Scum-ly zero.
The walls lower, and the heroes break another capsule.
Sonic: Alright, what’s next?
Sally: This place directly connects with a nearby jungle. We should get moving.
Sonic: Right.
The heroes press forwards.
Jungle Zone
The S6 are being repaired by SWATbots again.
Scratch: Oohh, This isn’t working! If we’re going to beat that hedgehog, we’re gonna need something with a lot more firepower than what we've been using.
Grounder: Where are we gonna get that?
Scratch: Right here. All this scrap metal has just been laying here for who knows how long! I say it’s time we put it to good use.
We see Robotnik, followed by Stone, Snively, and a few SWATbots make their way through a Jungle.
Stone: Doctor, with all due respect, I’m not sure why we’re making this trek. We passed the location the Emerald Radar-
Robotnik: That’s the thing about the radar, Stone. It can pinpoint where something is, but not on what level. It’s a bit of a design flaw on my end, I’ll admit, but nevertheless. What we’re looking for is the entrance to a labyrinth that leads deep below the ground. That’s where we’ll find our emerald.
Snively: A j-j-j-jungle labyrinth, sir?
Robotnik: Is there a problem, Snively?
Snively: No, sir, of course not. But, um, I was doing a bit of research on the area, and I’ve found something about this labyrinth you’ve been searching for…
Robotnik: Well? What is it?
Snively: Well, according to what I’ve found, the Labyrinth is the resting place of the evil wizard Lazar, who has been preserved there for centuries. It says that within his resting place is a computer full of spells, which many have attempted to steal, but all of the thieves never return. According to legend, Lazar awaits someone vile enough to awaken him. That would be you, sir.
Robotnik: Well, if this is true, not only would I get a Chaos Emerald, but I could get a magic computer too! Talk about a two for one special! Stone, split off from us, and keep looking for the Labyrinth. You know what to do if THEY get in the way. I’ll activate my homing beacon so you can find me again.
Stone nods, before flying off on an Eggmobile, leaving the others behind.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpXHK207rzc
The heroes arrive in the Jungle.
Sonic: Oh, yeah, now this is more like it!
The heroes begin to make their way through the jungle, when suddenly, they notice Swatbots moving through the jungle.
Rotor: What are they doing here? You think…
Sally: No, Robotnik wouldn’t waste the Swatbots on us unless he had too.
They watch the Swatbots looking around, looking under rocks, and pulling up flowers.
Sally: I think they're looking for something.
Suddenly, a large figure in a cloak appears before the Swatbots.
Sally: No way… It can’t be!
They attempt to attack it, but it fires lasers from its eyes, destroying them instantly, before vanishing.
Bunnie: What in heaven’s name was that thing?
Sally: It’s the Guardian.
Rotor: Who’s the Guardian?
Sally: More like what! According to legend, he watches over the resting place of Lazar.
Sonic: What’s Lazar?
Sally: Not what, who.
Sonic: Who is what?
Sally then tells everyone about Lazar.
Sonic: Oh man, if we could get our hands on that computer, we could really kick some Ro-butt-nik tail!
Sally: If we do that, we might wake Lazar.
Sonic: Moi? Faster than lightning, quieter than a mouse? I’d be there and back before you knew I was even gone.
Sally: I swear, one day, you’ll learn that speed is no substitute for common sense. Until then, let's keep moving.
They keep going. As they do, Robotnik keeps moving through the forest, before they come across a large stone entryway.
Robotnik: Ah, here we are! The labyrinth! Move in!
They all move forward, but stop as the Guardian comes from the entryway.
Robotnik: Snively, what is that thing?!
Snively: That’s Lazar’s Guardian, sir. It guards him until the person who can awaken him arrives.
Robotnik: Okay, then maybe I can reason with him.
Robotnik approaches the Guardian, with Cluck hiding under his cape.
Guardian: Why are you here?
Robotnik: Well, you see, I have a business proposition for you, Guardian. I think you’ll find it rewarding.
Guardian: I have no use for riches.
He turns to leave, but Robotnik stops him.
Robotnik: D-did you think I meant riches? Hohohohoho, no, no, no! I just wanted to free your master for you. And in return, I’ll give you anything you want. Pretty good deal, right?
Guardian: You intend harm to my master?
Robotnik: No! No, no, no, of course not! I wanted to join forces with him! After all, we’ve got a lot in common.
Guardian: Yes, I can see that. Come then.
The Guardian enters the Labyrinth, beckoning for Robotnik to join him.
Robotnik: Well, that wasn’t so hard, now was it?
He enters the Labyrinth, with the others attempting to follow. However, the Guardian stops them.
Guardian: Only he may enter the labyrinth. The rest of you must wait here.
As this is happening, the heroes are making their way through the Jungle, before they come across an area with a large vine stretching over a deep hole… Suddenly, two large stone walls emerge from the ground.
Sonic: Oh boy, here we go again.
Stone emerges with an Eggmobile modified with a cannon.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njCdnG9B4TQ
Sonic: You just don’t know when to quit, do you?
Stone: What can I say, I’m a dedicated worker. Now let’s do this.
Stone drops a cannonball on the vine, which rolls back and forth before exploding. Sonic and the others dodge it, before attacking Stone. This process repeats for a little while, until suddenly, Stone stops, and flies upwards.
Sonic: What’s up, pal? Quitting while you're ahead?
Stone: On the contrary. I’m just getting started.
He fires another cannonball, which lands in the middle of the vine, not hitting anyone.
Sonic: Really? That’s the best you’ve got?
Stone merely grins, before pulling out a remote.
Stone: Gotcha.
He presses the button, before the cannonball releases a huge explosion, destroying the vine, and sending everyone down the hole. Everyone begins to panic, until Sonic grabs the Power Ring from his bag.
Sonic: Everyone, hold on!
Everyone grabs around Sonic as he activates the ring, bathing them all in its power. They all hit the ground, unconscious but alive. The emeralds are scattered around where they landed. Stone descends from the hole in his machine, before grabbing both of the emeralds and heading off toward the location of Robotnik. Eventually, the heroes awaken.
Labyrinth Zone
Sally: Is… Is everyone ok?
Everyone confirms they’re alright.
Sonic: Man, this Ring is way past cool!
Antoine: I have information that isn’t way past cooler; zee emeralds are gone!
Rotor: What?! But how- unless…
Sally: Stone. He must have swiped them while we were unconscious. And if he has them…
Sonic: Then so does Robotnik.
Everyone takes a moment to process this information. Eventually, Sonic gets up.
Sonic: Listen guys, I know this looks bad. And let’s face it, it IS bad. But Robotnik only has three emeralds. That means if we can find the others before him, we’ll have the advantage. This ain’t over yet. Not on my watch. Now come on.
The heroes proceed down the labyrinth, before coming across a marker. Sonic spins and graffiti’s it, before a Portal Ring opens.
Sonic: Alright, back in a Sonic second.
He jumps in, then comes back out with an emerald.
Sonic: Alright, let's keep moving.
Robotnik follows the Guardian through the Labyrinth.
Robotnik: So, how much longer will it be until we reach Lazar?
Guardian: Not much longer now. Wait… something is coming.
Everyone braces themselves, only for Stone to come flying in. The Guardian’s eyes glow, before Robotnik gets in between the two.
Robotnik: Hold on, Guardian. He’s with me.
The Guardian backs down.
Stone: Thank you, Doctor.
Robotnik: Yes, well, I can’t exactly have my helpers be vaporized. Now, I assume you’ve had an encounter with the Freedom Fighters?
Stone: Well, yes. But, it actually went in my favor. And I was able to get something for you.
He presents the emeralds to Robotnik, who snatches them out of his hands. He then begins to laugh, juggling them, before turning to Stone.
Robotnik: Excellent work, Stone! This is why you’re my right hand man! Now I have four emeralds! I only need three more before I become unstoppable! Not even Sonic can stop me now!
He laughs some more, before handing the emeralds back to Stone.
Guardian: If you are done celebrating, may we return to my master?
Robotnik: Of course, of course. Stone, try and find the way out of here.
Stone: Of course Doctor.
Stone takes back off, and Robotnik and the Guardian continue on their way.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoSnRJtTwCM&list=PLB82B3CE47A1D1629&index=2
As the heroes are making their way through the Labyrinth, they eventually come across a large body of water.
Sally: Well, I guess we’ll just have to swim across, right, Sonic? Sonic?
She turns to see Sonic shaking like a leaf.
Sally: What? Don’t tell me mister fearless hero is scared of getting wet?
Sonic: Come on, Sal, you know I don’t do well with water! I mean, I never even learned how to swim!
Sally: It’ll be fine, Sonic. I’ll be right there with you. Now let’s go.
The heroes make their way through the water, using air bubbles as fuel. Eventually they resurface.
Bunnie: See, that wasn’t so bad, now was it, sugah-hog?
Sonic: Hate it, hate it, hate water, really hate water.
The group gives him a moment, before continuing. Meanwhile, Robotnik and the Guardian have reached Lazar’s tomb.
Guardian: Here is where my master lies. You must awaken him. There are others in this tomb I must deal with.
Robotnik: Probably the Freedom Fighter’s, with my luck.
The Guardian leaves, and Robotnik enters Lazar’s tomb. He looks at Lazar, sleeping in his glass pod, before beginning to search for the computer. After searching for a few minutes he gets frustrated. He contacts Snively on his comms.
Snively: Something troubling you, sir?
Robotnik: I’ve looked all over this place for Lazar’s computer, but I can’t find it! All I’ve found so far is this weird crystal thingie.
Snively: That’s it, sir! That’s Lazar’s computer!
Robotnik: Really? This is a computer?
Snively: Well, that’s what the files call it.
Robotnik looks at the crystal, before shrugging and heading for the door. However, he turns to look at Lazar.
Robotnik: Sleep well, old man. And don’t worry, I’ll take good care of this for you while you’re gone.
He leaves, not noticing Lazar cracking his eyes open. He hops into his Eggmobile and activates his comms.
Robotnik: Stone, have you found a way out of here yet?
Stone: Yes, doctor. I’m outside now. Sending you the location.
Robotnik: Excellent! Now I’ve just gotta get out of here.
He activates the Eggmobile and drives off. Meanwhile, the heroes have made their way through the Labyrinth, when suddenly the Guardian appears. They prepare for a fight, when a voice interrupts them.
Unknown: Wait!
Everyone stops and turns. They are shocked to see Lazar.
Sonic: Sal, is that ...?
Sally: Lazar.
Guardian: Master, you’ve returned!
The guardian gets on its knees. Lazar puts a hand on its shoulder, a gentle smile on his face.
Lazar: Leave us, Guardian. Deal with them myself, I will.
The guardian nods, before disappearing. Lazar turns towards the heroes, the smile replaced with a judgemental glare.
Lazar: More thieves you are! My computer, you come to steal!
Sonic: Us? No,no,no,no, We just took a wrong turn, so we’ll be cruising!
He attempts to run, but Lazar traps him in a magic bubble. The others try to get him out, but nothing works.
Lazar: Fast, not so, little thief!
Sonic: Hey, lemme outta here!
Sally: Listen, Lazar, we're not here to steal your computer. We’re just passing through, honest. Can you describe who stole it?
Lazar: I know not his name. But, red he wears, with a large mustache, and so… round.
Sonic: Smells like a rotten Eggman to me.
Lazar: Evil I was once, but dreamed for centuries I did. Regret the evil, I do.
Sonic: Cool! So let me outta here.
Lazar: Release you? Why?
Sonic: So me and my pals can stop Eggman! He’s as bad as you used to be. No telling what he could do with your magic.
Lazar: …Promise first, you must.
Sonic: Sure, anything. What?
Lazar: Find my computer. Return it, you shall!
Sonic: I promise, now let me out.
Lazar undoes the spell around Sonic.
Sonic: Yeah, thanks! It’s juice and jam time!
He attempts to run off, before falling on his face.
Sonic: Ah man, what’d you do to me?
Lazar: Took your speed, little thief!
Sonic: That’s uncool! Why’d you do that?
Lazar: Evil, I was. Ignorant, I wasn’t, heh. Return when your promise you keep.
Sonic: No prob. But how do I get your computer without my speed?
Lazar: Brains you have, brains you must use.
The heroes move past Lazar, determined to keep going.
Sonic: Why does everything gotta be so difficult?
The heroes proceed through the Labyrinth. Sonic has more trouble without his speed, but he is able to defeat the badniks with help from the others, and by tricking the badniks into traps, defeating them. Eventually, they find Robotnik, about to make his way through the escape.
Robotnik: Ugh, finally! Took me forever to find this place. Now I can leave!
Sonic: Aw, at least say goodbye first, Eggman!
Robotnik turns towards them. He looks like he’s about to say something, but he looks up and groans instead.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNSsLA_ye7Y
Robotnik: Ugh, I don’t have time for this!
He sends the Eggmobile upwards, attempting to escape.
Sonic: Oh, you’re not going anywhere, Eggbelly!
Sonic follows Robotnik, managing to get a few hits on the Eggmobile while dodging the traps, before eventually jumping into the machine, and hijacking the controls, driving into as many traps as he can to damage it. Eventually, Robotnik throws him off, before attempting to flee. The other Freedom Fighters have been following behind, and they all chase after Robotnik. Suddenly, Sonic gets an idea.
Sonic: Bunnie, Throw me at Robotnik as hard as you can!
Bunnie: Alright, if you say so, sugah!
She grabs him. As he curls into a ball, she chucks him at Robotnik as hard as she can, punching a hole into the Eggmobile, and sending it down. Sonic runs over and checks on Robotnik. However, his head pops off, attached to a spring.
Sonic: Another Duplicate!
Robotnik: You… little… pincushion! You might have Lazar’s computer, but once I have all the emeralds, I won’t even need it! So hah!
The duplicate deactivates, and Sonic grabs both the computer, and the Emerald Robotnik stored in the Eggmobile.
Sonic: Alright, we got the computer, and the Emerald, all without my speed! Sometimes I’m so cool, I impress myself.
Suddenly, in a flash of light, Lazar appears, with the Guardian behind him.
Lazar: Well you did, little thief!
Sonic hands the computer to Lazar.
Sonic: You should come with us, Lazar! Join the Freedom Fighters!
Lazar: Not with the computer. Here for Mobius, it is bad. Guard it, I must.
Sally: Can’t you destroy it?
Bunnie: The girl has a point. If it’s all so evil, why not just be rid of it?
Lazar: Release all the evil, it would. A catastrophe, it would be. Sonic, your speed I return.
With a golden light from his hands, Sonic’s speed is returned. Lazar shakes his hand.
Lazar: Luck to you, Sonic.
Sonic: And to you, Lazar.
With that, in another, burst of light. Lazar and the Guardian are gone.
Sonic: We better juice.
Bunnie: Music to mah ears.
They leave, ready to pursue the next objective. As they do, Robotnik and his crew are on the way back to Scrap Brain.
Robotnik: Ah, who cares about some magic computer, anyway? Magic is wild and unpredictable. You can’t trust it. Machines, on the other hand, are always reliable. Besides, I’ve still got the emeralds and I-
Suddenly a look of realization appears on Robotnik's face.
Robotnik: I left the emerald I got at the Spring Yard in the Eggmobile I sent down to the Labyrinth! Which means that hedgehog probably has it!
Robotnik slumps down in his chair, Cluck attempting to sooth him.
Stone: Don’t look so down, Doctor. We’ve still got three emeralds. All we have to do is beat the Freedom Fighters, we’ll have everything we need.
Robotnik: You’re right, Stone. Don’t forget to make me a latte when we get back to Scrap Brain.
Stone: Of course, Doctor.
Starlight City
Later, we see Robotnik is sitting in his office, looking at a screen while drinking a latte. Cluck is on his shoulder.
Robotnik: Hmm… the last Emerald in this city, somewhere. I know I already sent Snively to go get it, but… well, it's SNIVELY. Not exactly the height of competence.
Suddenly, Cluck begins to make noises on Robotnik’s shoulder, who seems to know exactly what Cluck is saying.
Robotnik: What’s that, boy? You want to go to Starlight City to try and get the Emerald yourself?
Cluck nods.
Robotnik: Well, I don’t know…
Cluck resorts to using puppy-dog eyes, which defeats Robotnik’s resolve.
Robotnik: Oh, I just can’t say no to that face! Alright, you can go, but if anything happens, come right back here immediately, understand?
Cluck nods again, before flying off into the night.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Auq11xNZUrI
The heroes emerge in Starlight City.
Sonic: Oh yeah, this is just what I needed after all of that. Nice fresh air…
Sally: We can’t afford to get distracted, guys. We need to get moving, before Robotnik gets any more emeralds.
Sonic: Right, come on guys.
They begin to make their way through the city, avoiding badniks and obstacles.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cerFSyaXIfQ
Elsewhere, Scratch is putting the final touches on a machine.
Scratch: It’s done! It’s finally done! The ultimate hedgehog-catcher!
Coconuts: For how long we’ve been building it, it better be.
Grounder: Yeah, we didn’t even get to go to that jungle place with the doctor!
Scratch: Don’t worry guys. Once this thing’s up and running, it’s all gonna be worth it.
(Heroes)
The team is making their way through the city, when suddenly, they hear a faint rumbling sound. Then it gets louder. Closer.
Antoine: Sonic, please be telling me that eez only your stomach…
Suddenly, from between the buildings, a massive robot appears, towering over the heroes. And at the helm are three very familiar robots.
Scratch: BAHA-HAHA! Surprise, Sonic!
Grounder: You’re not going away this time!
Coconuts: Yeah, yeah, yeah! You’re never making us look stupid ever again!
Scratch: Say hello to my ultimate weapon; The Super Sonic Search and Smasher!
Grounder: Oh, speaking of, can we smash them now?
Scratch: Yes! Just make sure the robot's left foot goes first! Baha-haha!
Grounder: Okay! Uh, which one of us is left?
Scratch: You do, tractor-head! You’re left!
Grounder: Oh.
The robot lifts its left foot above the heroes.
Sonic: Book it!
The heroes begin to run away, avoiding the robot.
Coconuts: They're getting away! Go, go, go, GO!
The robot begins to run after them, shooting giant coconut bombs at them.
Sonic: You know, I gotta hand it to those guys! I didn’t think they could actually be intimidating! Guess you learn something new everyday!
Sally: Sonic, is this really the time?!
Sonic: Sorry!
Suddenly, he gets an idea.
Sonic: Bunnie, how far can your robot arm stretch?!
Bunnie: Pretty far, ah reckon!
Sonic: Far enough to trip a giant robot?!
Bunnie: Only one way to find out, Sugah-Hog!
They stop, hiding behind a couple of buildings. Sonic grabs onto Bunnie’s robot arm, and runs to the other side. The robot attempts to stop, but can’t and trips over the arm, falling over. The S6 crawl out, with the Freedom Fighters standing in front of them.
Sonic: You know guys, this was actually a pretty good attempt at getting us. Seriously, A+ stuff! And you know what? Just for that, I’ll let you guys go, free of charge.
Grounder: Really? Thanks!
Scratch: Don’t thank him, he’s the enemy!
Scratch and Coconuts grab onto Grounder, who turns his arms into jets.
Scratch: This isn’t over, hedgehog!
Grounder: Just you wait!
Coconuts: Yeah! We’ll be back, and you’ll be sorry!
Eventually, the three disappear into the distance.
Sally: You think it was a good idea to let them go like that Sonic?
Sonic: What’s the harm, Sal? They had a giant robot, and they still couldn’t beat me. And besides, whatever Eggman’s got planned for’em is probably worse than any beat down I could give.
Bunnie: Regardless, you’re a regular hero, sugah-hog!
Rotor: Yeah, when that thing tripped, blam! Instant history!
Sally: Sonic, you were great.
Suddenly, Sally kisses him on the cheek, causing him to fall over.
Antoine: Oh, brothers.
Sonic: Thanks a lot, guys. Now come on, let's keep moving.
The squad make their way over to the marker, which Sonic flips and graffiti’s. Then, the big ring appears. Sonic hops in, but before the ring closes, something flies in after him.
Bunnie: What in tarnation was that?
Rotor: I don’t know, but I’ve got a bad feeling about it.
Sonic emerges in the Special Zone.
Sonic: Yo, Omni!
Omni: Ah, Sonic, you’ve returned. And you’ve brought a friend.
Sonic: Say what?
Cluck appears, hissing at Sonic.
Sonic: Oh great, one robot bird brain was already too many.
Omni: I see that you aren’t friends. And yet, you both desire the Emerald. Hmm… There is only one way to decide this. The two of you will race to the Emerald.
Sonic: Pfft, you’re joking, right Omni? I could beat this buzzard blindfolded!
Omni: Perhaps, but it is only fair. Now, let the race for the Emerald commence!
The two begin, with Cluck flying ahead. Sonic runs forward, making his way across the many obstacles he finds along his way. Eventually, they make their way to the Emerald. Cluck bashes against the barrier, while Sonic tackles onto Cluck from above, shattering the barrier. They both fight their way to the Emerald, with Sonic eventually getting his hands on it.
Omni: Enough! The race has finished, and the winner is Sonic. Now, return to your world, both of you.
The two are sent back to where they were. Cluck, battered and bruised, flies off back to Robotnik.
Sonic: What the heck was that?!
Sally: That was Cluck, Robotnik’s pet.
Sonic: Oh, that makes sense. Well, ready to keep going?
They all nod, before heading onwards. They keep going, until they reach an area with multiple seesaw-like devices on them. Suddenly, Snively appears, driving the Eggmobile.
Snively: You may have gotten past the labyrinth, but this is as far as you go!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNSsLA_ye7Y
He presses a button on the Eggmobile, causing a cannon to emerge from the bottom, which shoots a spike ball onto one of the seesaws. Sonic merley smirks.
Sonic: Really? Were you even TRYING, Snore-ly?
He hops onto the device, sending the spike ball back at Snively. He dashes across the area, dropping spike balls as he goes, with one ending up directly under him, which Sonic sends back up. Snively keeps dropping spikes, causing Sonic to get stuck between them. They eventually explode, clearing the way. Sonic runs under the machine, jumps onto the wall, then directly impacts Snively. He then fires a ball directly at Sonic, which hits, but Sonic sends another spike at him. He begins spamming balls everywhere. Sonic jumps on a seesaw, sending a mine at Snively, before jumping onto the wall and ramming into him again, sending him into a collection of mines with an explosion. When the dust clears, Snively is gone. The heroes make their way to another capsule, which they break, before Sonic stretches his arms.
Sonic: Welp, I for one, am beat. All for setting up camp and hitting the hay, say I.
Everyone says I, before settling down, with all of them eventually going to sleep, except for Antoine and Rotor, who notices Antoine looking forlorn.
Rotor: What’s up, Antoine?
Antoine: Nothing is up. It is what is down here that is so terrible.
Rotor: Like what?
Antoine: It may seem silly, but it eez Sonic.
Rotor: Sonic?
Antoine: Oui. He is having all of these abilities, like the fast running, and the ball curling. What am I having? A sword? I am contributing so little to zis team next to him and I… I am jealous of him. Heh, when I say it out loud, I am sounding like a complete fuel.
Rotor: A fuel?
Antoine: Yes, a fuel, a fuel! Why is this word so difficulting to understand?! A fuel is a stupid person.
Rotor: Oh! Oh. Look Antoine, I know Sonic is kind of a tough act to follow, but don’t let it get you down. We’ve all got things that let us contribute to the team, but they don’t make us better or worse than anyone else. You’ll find something that sets you apart eventually. Heck, I’d bet a guy like you could capture Robotnik if you gave him enough time! Just give yourself a chance, alright?
Antoine: …Oui. I will try. Having a goodnight, Rotor.
Rotor: Night, Ant.
Antoine reflects on his conversation with Rotor, the words ‘capture Robotnik’ repeating in his mind.
Antoine: Ugh, even if I am to be doing that, how would it be happening?
Suddenly, he notices the Ring glowing in Sonic’s bag.
Antoine: A Ring! Of course! Oh, but I cannot be taking Sonic’s.
Suddenly, he remembers the Ring Forge.
Antoine: So I will just be making my own.
He digs through Sally’s bag and checks the Ring Forge. The timer reads “Eight hours to reuse.”
Antoine: Hmm, by then it will be the morning. I will waiting until the dawn is broken. They will be sleeping, and I will be having the perfect opportunity. Until then, I must be getting my beauty rest.
Antoine falls asleep next to the Forge.
(The Next Morning)
Antoine is still sleeping next to the Forge. Suddenly, it releases a high pitched beeping that startles Antoine awake.
Antoine: Sacre bleu!
Antoine checks to make sure the others are still asleep, before checking the Forge.
Antoine: Alright, how do we…
He presses the red button on the side of the machine, causing it to activate, producing another Power Ring. Antoine puts the Forge down and grabs the ring.
Antoine: Voila! Now Robotnik, all you are is mine!
Antoine checks again to make sure the others are still asleep, before heading off into the city. He wanders around the city for a bit, looking for a way to get Robotnik’s attention. Suddenly, one of his spy cams flies into Antoine’s face, scaring him. Eventually, he takes a deep breath, before pulling out the ring.
Antoine: R-r-r-robotnik. I have a p-p-power ring!
(Scrap Brain)
As this is happening, Robotnik is tending to Cluck’s wounds. Snively is also there, still nursing a few wounds of his own from his latest battle.
Snively: Dr. Robotnik!
Robotnik: What is it, Snively?
Antoine: If you want the ring, please to meet me at the city limits in one hour.
Robotnik: Get his position!
Snively presses a few buttons on a control panel.
Snively: All security bots in sector seven, move to quadrant three immediately.
Antoine: Ah-ah! No Swatbots. You must come alone.
Antoine then leaves, slapping the spy cam as he goes.
(Scrap Brain)
Snively: Hover units report negative contact, sir.
Robotnik: I want that Power Ring. Prepare a duplicate!
Snively: Yes sir.
(Freedom Fighters)
The heroes are beginning to wake up.
Sonic: How was your ugly sleep, Ant? Ant?
Everyone begins looking around, realizing Antoine is missing.
Sonic: Oh, man. I think we’ve got an Ant problem.
(Elsewhere)
Antoine is waiting in a part of the city, shivering. Eventually, the Eggmobile descends from the sky. Robotnik hops out and walks towards Antoine.
Robotnik: Do you have it?
Antoine: B-b-but of course.
Antoine presents the ring.
Robotnik steps closer, while Antoine steps back.
Robotnik: You know, I’m curious. You’ve been a pain in my side for a while now. So why would you decide to betray your friends?
Antoine: T-t-take this, and you will understand.
Robotnik steps forward, before his feet catch, he ‘s upside down. He sees his leg tightened to a lamppost.
Robotnik: Oh, you stupid…
Antoine: I am not a fuel, YOU are the fuel!
Robotnik: Alright, mister genius. And just what are you going to do with me?
Antoine: I will bring you to the Freedom FIghters, where you will stand the trial for your terrible crimes. I will be a large hero, and finally prove my worth.
Robotnik: Aw, what a nice dream. But it’s time for a wake-up call.
He puts his finger to the ropes. His finger retracts, and a lighter takes its place. He burns through the ropes, and lands, before righting himself.
Antoine: Sacre bleu! A duplicate!
Robotnik: If you think I’d come to this in person, you’re even dumber than I thought.
Antoine attempts to run, but is cut off by laser fire from the duplicate, who approaches.
Robotnik: Thank YOU!
The duplicate grabs the ring from Antoine,.
Robotnik: Alright, gorgeous. Let’s see how you tick…
(Freedom Fighters)
Sonic: Well, Antoine’s history. I looked everywhere. It looks like he used the Ring Forge before he left.
Rotor: Uh oh.
Sally: What, Rotor?
Rotor: I think he might’ve gone after Robotnik.
Sonic: No way, he can’t be that desperate.
Rotor: Well, he wanted to prove his worth, and I said a guy like him could capture Robotnik, and I guess he got the wrong idea. I was just trying to help…
Sally; Sonic, he could be in danger! We need to go save him!
Sonic: Right! I might not like the guy, but he doesn’t deserve to be stuck with Robotnik. No one does.
Sally: Nicole, track Antoine’s location using the scanner.
Nicole: Accessing. Analyzing. Location found.
Sonic: Sweet. I’ll go pick him up.
(The edge of Starlight City)
At a building on the edge of Starlight City, Robotnik is putting the final touches on a new invention.
Robotnik: Now, let's see if this Power Ring lives up to its name. This radar tracks all moving objects, but it has a special function for things that move at supersonic speeds.
Suddenly, the radar comes to life, showing a red blip.
Robotnik: Well, well, now who could that be?
Sonic runs towards Antoine’s location.
Robotnik: Now, let’s test this thing out. Fire!
He presses a button, causing the radar to fire a huge laser at Sonic, who gets blown back.
Robotnik: Bingo!
Sonic gets back up.
Sonic: Oh man, what was that? Time to motor!
Sonic starts running again.
Robotnik: Here he comes again.
He fires another laser, which also hits Sonic, who recovers after a few seconds.
Sonic: How’s that metal head tracking me? Time to crank it up!
Another laser hits him as he runs. He gets up again.
Sonic: Man, if he knows when I’m juicing, I can’t use my speed. I guess that means we’re doing this the smart way.
Robotnik: Three strikes, and the hedgehog is out! Send out the Swatbots to finish the job.
Snively: Yes, sir.
Robotnik: Oh, and uh, throw him into the roboticizer for me? Thanks.
The SWATbots grab Antoine, and carry him to the roboticiser.
(Sonic)
A Swatbot team appears, finding a charred glove that looks like Sonic’s.
Swatbot: Subject in/near vicinity.
The Swatbots leave, and Sonic emerges from a nearby alleyway. He then begins walking towards the building.
Sonic: I don’t think I’ll ever get used to moving in slo-mo.
Sonic continues, making his way towards the building, dodging any enemies he might find. Eventually, he spots the building Antoine is in. He sees Robotnik and Snively get on the Eggmobile, and take off, followed by two Swatbots, carrying Antoine to a hoverpod.
Antoine: Unhand me you tin plated fuels! Do you knowing who I am being?! I am deserving of more respect!
The pod takes off, with Sonic catching a ride on the back. Eventually, the pod lands, with all of the inhabitants disembarking, with the bots taking Antoine into a robotization chamber, with Sonic following behind.
Antoine: Honestly, it is disgraceful how rude you all are! You are to being ashamed of all of your selves!
Eventually, he is thrown into the device. It is activated, but interrupted by Sonic throwing a screwdriver at the lever.
Sonic: Yo, Swat-heads! Looking for me?
They begin to chase and fire at Sonic, who runs away. They give chase, and separate. When they are gone, Sonic drops from the ceiling and frees Antoine.
Antoine: Sonic! Robotnik is having a machine that is knowing when you are running, and it fires upon you when you do. He is using a power ring to run it. I… I’m sorry.
Sonic: It’s cool, Ant. We’ll stop him.
Antoine: Wait, you cannot be running!
Sonic: No choice Ant. Get a grip, it’s juice time!
Sonic begins to run towards the location of the Radar. Agent Stone is currently operating it while Robotnik and Snively return to Scrap Brain. He notices Sonic coming. He activates the radar, which fires a blast that Sonic dodges.
Stone: Still coming? Alright, let's see how you like proton load!
He fires again, only for Sonic to dodge it as well, eventually making it to where the radar is located. However, they are soon surrounded by Swatbots.
Stone: Well Sonic, looks like you’re caught between a Stone and a hard place. Always wanted to say that. Now, how do you think you’re going to get out of this one?
Antoine reaches into the radar, and pulls out the power ring.
Antoine: Sonic, look!
Sonic: Alright, Ant! Let’s juice!
They begin to run around the room, with Stone and the Swatbots trying to shoot at them. Eventually, Sonic rushes at the radar and completely totals it. He then runs out with Antoine.
(Back at base)
The heroes are checking on Antoine.
Sally: Honestly Antoine, what were you thinking?! You could’ve been roboticized, or worse!
Antoine: I am sorry princess, I was only attempting to prove my worth.
Sally: Antoine, you don’t need to “prove” anything. You’re my friend, and all of us care about you. No amount of fancy powers can change that.
The others all voice their agreement, even Sonic.
Antoine: Everyone, I am thanking you. This is meaning so much to me and I… I… Excuse moi, I am having dirt in my eyes.
Antoine covers his eyes, while the others comfort him. Sonic and Sally sit off to the side.
Sonic: So, looks like we’re coming up on the endgame, huh?
Sally: Yep. After this, it's a straight shot to Robotnik.
Sonic: Nice. I can’t wait to tell Tails about what happened here.
Sally: I can’t wait to go home.
(Scrap Brain)
Stone is informing Robotnik about the radar.
Robotnik: Ah well, the radar was good while it lasted. Still, it won’t matter once I get all the emeralds.
Snively: Sir, you have some visitors.
Robotnik: Bring them in.
The door opens, revealing the S6, who enter the room.
Robotnik: Well, well. I have to say, out of all the robots I’ve built, you three are by far the most disappointing. I mean, I built you for the sole purpose of catching Sonic and his friends, and you all failed miserably, letting them ruin all my plans and destroy all my machines! Just look at what those savages did to poor Cluck!
He shows them Cluck, who is still pretty beat up. The three robots get on their hands and knees.
Scratch: We’re sorry Doctor Robotnik!
Grounder: We’ll try to do better, we swear!
Coconuts: Yeah, please don’t scrap us!
Robotnik: Oh, you don’t need to worry about that.
The three look up with shocked, hopeful expressions.
Robotnik: You three may be complete and utter failures now, but that doesn’t mean you can’t grow into something more. Which is why, against my better judgment, I’ll give you all another chance.
The three look at each other, before beginning to cheer.
Scratch: Oh thank you, Doctor Robotnik!
Grounder: You won’t regret it!
Coconuts: We’ll get right back to work!
Robotnik: That won’t be necessary.
The three look confused.
Robotnik: You see, I said I was going to give you all another chance. I didn’t say I was going to do it now. When I want you back, I’ll contact you. Until then, I’m having you all re-assigned to the Metropolis… on sanitation duty. A hover pod is waiting outside to escort you there. Have fun!
The three look shocked, before hanging their heads and walking back out.
Robotnik leans back in his chair, a smug expression on his face.
Robotnik: By the way, how’s our… underground project going?
Stone: Excellent, Doctor. Should be done by end of day.
Robotnik: Excellent.
Scrap Brain Zone
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLL8s2-edWk
We see the heroes emerge onto the Scrap Brain, a technological wasteland.
Sally: Alright everyone, this is it. From here, we can get to Robotnik, get the Emeralds, and make sure he can’t ruin this island more than he already has. Ready?
Everyone: Ready!
They make their way across the outside of the Scrap Brain. Eventually, they reach the entrance to Robotnik’s lair. In the main hall, there are three holes, one on the ground, two in the ceiling. As they enter, they are interrupted by Snively in another machine.
Sonic: Hi, we’ve got a pizza delivery for a “Doctor Eggman”? That’ll be ten dollars, and the butt-kicking is free.
Snively: Go ahead and joke, hedgehog, but this time, we’ve got you!
Sonic: What you’ve got, Snively, is a big, fat zippo!
Snively: Guess again, rodent. What I have is your worthless hide!
Snively fires two shots from his machine, but Sonic dodges and attacks him. He moves to one of the ceiling holes, where he fires a missile from the bottom of the machine. Sonic dodges and gets a few more hits in. He moves to the last hole, fires another missile, which misses, and Sonic defeats him. The machine crashes onto the floor, with Snively crawling out, coughing.
Snively: This… this doesn’t change anything! Soon, Robotnik will have the Emeralds, and everything you’ve done will be meaningless!
Sonic: Guess again, pal. It ain’t over till the fat guy sings!
Snively runs off.
Sally: Come on guys, let’s keep going.
The heroes continue their way through the facility, eventually coming across Robotnik’s badnik factory, where small animals are dropped into badniks to give them power.
Sally: Oh, those poor critters…
Rotor: Man, would I love to turn Robotnik into a can opener!
Sonic says nothing, but his fist is clenched in rage. They continue, dodging more traps.
Sonic: You know, I gotta hand it to the Egghead, he sure knows a thing or two about home defense!
Robotnik: I’m so glad you approve!
They see Robotnik and Snively standing in front of a button.
Sonic: I’m no contractor, but this place doesn’t look up to code, Doc!
Robotnik: Agreed! Just look at the rodent infestation!
Sonic: Hah, I’ll make you eat those–
As he says this, Sonic charges forward, before being stopped by a barrier knocking him back, with the others checking on him.
Robotnik: Ahh… That was satisfying!
Snively: It worked!
Robotnik: What’s that supposed to mean?! Of course it worked!
Snively: No offense, sir, but we haven’t had a lot of success over the past few days…
Sonic gets up.
Sonic: Alright, alright, you punked me, fair and square. It doesn’t mean you’ve won.
Robotnik: Neither have you, boy. Sure, things haven’t gone exactly according to plan…
Snively: Especially considering all of the broken robots, pains and bruises, and the fact you still have three emeralds…
Robotnik: Thank you, Snively. That’s enough.
Sonic: Haha, you guys are hilarious. You guys can’t stop all of us working together.
Sally: Yes. We will defeat you, and we will take back our world!
Others: Yeah!
Robotnik: Ah, always the pride before the fall….
Robotnik presses the button in front to him, and the ground begins to fall, sending them all down a big hole.
Snively: Hah! That worked, too! Er, I mean, of course it worked!
Robotnik: Shut up, Snively.
Using the ring Antoine made, Sonic uses its power to protect them all as they land. Once they do, the ring crumbles into dust.
Sonic: Huh, guess they’ve only got so much juice.
The heroes look around their surroundings. It resembles the Labyrinth, but with gray walls instead of yellow. They make their way forward, until they find a large steel building in the middle of the cave.
Sonic: What the heck is that?
Sally: I think it’s some sort of mining facility.
They notice a door open on the facility. A Swatbot exits, followed by several Roboticized mobians entering another door, including…
Sonic: Sal… there… That bot is my Uncle Chuck!
Sally: You’re right!
Sonic: I’ve gotta get him outta here.
Sally: Sonic, wait!
Sonic runs to Chuck, who is held back from following the others by the voice, leading to the door closing, keeping him out.
Sonic: Yo, Uncle Chuck, wait up!
Sonic grabs Chuck’s arm.
Sonic: Uncle Chuck, chill will ya? It’s me.
The response he gets isn’t the one he wants.
Chuck: Warning. Freedom Fighter detected. Sounding alarm.
He pulls free of Sonic’s grasp.
Sonic: Uncle Chuck, what are you doing?!
He walks over to the alarm and presses it, before turning on Sonic.
Chuck: Capture Freedom fighters, priority one.
He advances towards Sonic.
Sonic: Yo, it's me, Sonic! Your one and only too cool nephew? Don’t you remember?
Chuck leaps at Sonic, who dodges.
Sonic: Bunnie, grab him!
Bunnie runs out and grabs Chuck by the arms, while he struggles to break free.
Bunnie: Easy, sugah, I won’t hurt ya.
Sonic: Get him outta here, Bunnie.
Bunnie walks back with Chuck, while Sonic kicks the alarm, deactivating it, before running back to the others. Bunnie is still holding a violent Chuck.
Antoine: Sacre bleu! This is terrible! Robotnik has gotten to him!
Sonic: Don’t worry, Uncle Chuck, we’ll get you back to normal. Got any ideas, Sal?
Sally: Well, the robotization process is still a big mystery. But maybe, just maybe, we can jog his memory.
She pulls out the first power ring from Sonic’s bag.
Sonic: Yeah, past cool, Sal!
She walks to Chuck, who grabs the ring from her hands, and seems to calm down.
Sonic: Uncle Chuck, this is one of the power rings you invented, remember?
Chuck closes his robotic eyes.
Sonic: Sal, it's working! Attaway, Uncle Chuck! It’s me, Sonic, your fav nephew! Please remember!
Chuck opens and closes his eyes again. When they open, there is a recognition in them there wasn’t before.
Chuck: Sonic? Is that you, sonny?
Sonic: Uncle Chuck! Yes!
Sonic wraps his Uncle in a hug long overdue.
Sonic: Man, I sure missed you!
Chuck returns the hug, oil leaking from his eyes.
Chuck: I missed you too.
After a moment, the two separate.
Chuck: Still good lookin’ and always cookin’, eh, sonny boy?
Sonic: You got it, Unc. Shakin’ and bakin’.
Chuck takes a moment to look at the others.
Chuck: Princess Sally! Rotor! Antoine! It’s a real treat to see you again. And I don’t think we’ve met, miss…?
Bunnie: Bunnie Rabbot. Pleasure to meet you, Charlie.
Chuck: Likewise.
Sally: Welcome back, Charles.
Rotor: How you doin’, Chuck?
Antoine: Doctor Hedgehog. Boujour!
Chuck: Boujour, Antoine!
Sonic: Come on, Uncle Chuck, we’re bailing you outta this dump.
Antoine: Oh, oui oui, yes, the better the sooner.
Chuck: Not yet, sonny. There’s something much more important than me that I need your help on.
Sonic: More important than you? Like what?
Chuck: I’ll have to show you, down in the mine.
They all walk over to where the Swatbots were leading the Robians earlier. The door is still closed.
Chuck: Bit of a snag here. The elevator’s gone to the next shift.
Sonic: Forget the shift. There’s always the shaft. Bunnie, waste these doors.
Bunnie: Mah pleasure!
She rips the door open, revealing a dark hole, with cables leading down.
Chuck: Sweet thinking, sonny! Let’s get sliding!
He grabs one of the cables, and slides down it.
Sonic: Is he my Uncle, or what?
The others slide down the cables as well. Eventually, They reach the elevator, with Chuck kicking down a loose panel to gain entrance.
Sonic: So what are we looking for, Uncle Chuck?
Chuck: It’s something you’ve gotta see with your own eyes.
Chuck forces the door of the elevator open.
Chuck: Check it out, Sonic!
He leads them out to an area where a giant crystal is being lifted out of the ground by ropes attached to it.
Sonic: Oh man! That is large!
Chuck: Robotnik is mining this energy crystal to power some kind of ultimate weapon. They’re hoisting it outta here today! We have to stop it!
Bunnie: What’ll happen if they do get it out?
Chuck: Removing this much active crystal will destroy the whole ecosystem.
Sally: You’re right. We do have to stop Robotnik. But how?
Chuck: Only one way. We shut em down here AND at the control center! Sal, that’s where you come in.
Sally: Okay, let’s do it!
The heroes make their way to the entrance to the control center, which is guarded by a SWATbot. They hide behind some machinery.
Chuck: That’s it, Sal.
Sally: The control center?
Chuck: Right. That’s where you gotta cut the main power circuits. Sonny, after you get them, come on back here.
Sonic: You got it!
Suddenly, Chuck clutches his head as if it were in pain.
Sonic: Uncle Chuck? Y-you feeling okay?
Chuck: Fine. Don’t worry about me. We don’t have much time.
Sonic: I’m outta here.
Sonic runs off, throwing a rock at the SWATbot.
Sonic: Hey, metal-head!
The bot fires its laser at Sonic, who pulls out a mirror from his bag.
Sonic: Back at ya!
The bot short’s out, before falling over the edge. Sally, Rotor and Antoine run towards Sonic, and they all make their way to the entrance. However, another SWATbot comes through the door, but they all hug the outside the door, hiding from it. They all rush into the control center, except for Sonic.
Sonic: Hey, electro-breath! Get ready for a laser lunch!
The bot fires at Sonic, who dodges. The laser bounces off the wall and knocks the SWATbot off the platform. Meanwhile, in the control center, the others are checking around corners.
Antoine: Slice of pie, n’est pas?
Rotor: Antoine, it’s “a piece of cake”
Antoine: Yes, I’m happy this is so.
As they make their way through the control center, Sonic, Bunnie and Chuck are crawling down a rock wall.
Chuck: I’ll go first.
Sonic: Careful, Uncle Chuck!
Chuck drops down the wall, landing on a safe surface, followed by Bunnie and Sonic.
Sonic: What’s next, Uncle Chuck?
Chuck: You’re about to meet the most powerful bot of all.
From below them, a giant robot emerges from a cave, resembling a giant lizard.
Sonic: Man, that is one serious bot!
Chuck: It’s called Dinobot, a deadly planet devouring machine.
Sonic: I wish that dude was on our side.
Chuck: That’s my plan, Sonic, but first we’ve gotta get to its controls inside. Just follow me.
Chuck jumps onto Dinobot’s back, followed by the others. Dinobot slams its head onto the ground, causing them all to lose their balance, and fall onto its nose. Dinobot rises again, before slamming back down, causing Chuck to fall off. Dinobot raises its head again, and opens its mouth.
Chuck: See you inside!
Dinobot lunges down and devours Chuck.
Sonic: Uncle Chuck!
Bunnie: Oh mah stars, do we have to do that?
Sonic: No prob. Come on.
The two slide off Dinobots nose, and grab onto its jaw, before climbing into its mouth.
Bunnie: Oh, I hate this part!
From within the depths of Dinobot, Chuck calls.
Chuck: Let's go, sonny boy!
Dinobot begins to thrash its head back and forth, with Sonic and Bunnie hanging on for dear life.
Sonic: Bunnie, and you jam its jaws open?!
Bunnie: I’ll sure give it a try, Sugar-Hog!
Bunnie moves to the sides of Dinobots mouth, and uses her robot arm to force the jaw upwards.
Bunnie: C’mon, move!
Eventually, the jaw stops moving, and stays open.
Sonic: Alright, Bunnie! Now let's find Uncle Chuck!
The two race down the throat. In the control center, Agent Stone is working on the consoles. The heroes are hiding under the controls.
Sally: If we get past him, we should have free reign.
Rotor: I’ll distract him. You knock him out!
Rotor gets up and walks over to Stone, tapping him on the shoulder.
Stone: What the-?!
Stone begins trying to attack Rotor, eventually grabbing him by the hand and holding him above the ground. He pulls a laser pistol out of his pocket and points it at Rotor’s head.
Stone: You really should have stayed in your forest.
Sally sweeps his legs, knocking him out before he can try anything, causing him to drop Rotor.
Antoine: Gringo!
Rotor: Antoine, it’s bingo.
Sally: Over here!
They all run to one of the consoles. As they do, Dinobot is thrashing, smashing rocks and flailing around.
Sonic: This bot is flipping out, Uncle Chuck!
Chuck: Let's hope he doesn’t clear its throat.
Chuck attempts to pull a lever on Dinobots control’s, but can’t.
Bunnie: Let me give you a hand there, Charlie.
She pulls the lever down, causing Dinobot to collapse.
Chuck: Thanks, Bunnie! Now, let's figure out how to control this baby!
Sonic: Control it to do what?
Chuck: To chop-suey those cables!
Chuck pulls up a panel with many buttons on it.
Chuck: Yes, the control board! Now, let's see if Dinobot will work for us.
Before he can do anything, the ground begins to shake.
Bunnie: What’s that?!
Chuck: The cranes! We’ve gotta work fast!
Outside, the cranes begin to lift the crystal out of the ground. Inside, Chuck picks up a communicator on the wall.
Chuck: Come on, Sally, pick up!
The others are picking up Chuck’s message.
Chuck: Good job, Sal. Now shut down the mine's main circuits.
Sally: Okay, but I don’t see a control panel for the cranes.
Chuck: Must be separate. Keep looking!
Sally: Will do.
She hangs up, and begins pressing random buttons.
Sally: Maybe one of these?
(Dinobot)
Chuck presses three buttons on a console.
Chuck: Now, let's get this T-bot cranking! Hit it, Bunnie!
She flips the switch, and Dinobot reactivates under the control of the heroes. It begins to move towards the crystal.
Chuck: This T-bot’s working for US now!
Bunnie: Alright!
Sonic: Better juice on it, Chuck. Those cranes are starting to lift the old crystal.
Moving closer, Chuck makes Dinobot use its tail to grab one of the ropes supporting the crystal.
Sonic: Large move! Shred that sucker!
Suddenly, multiple grappling hooks are fired by SWATbots, pulling the tail away from the crystal, forcing it to let go of the crystal, before using a second rope to hold it in place.
Sonic: The claw’s down!
Chuck: We’ll have to use the laser drill to destroy the crystal!
He pushes a few buttons, causing a laser beam to fire from the nose, which hits the crystal. However, on impact a yellow field surrounds it.
Chuck: The crystal absorbed the laser energy! We’ve got to take out those cables!
They fire the laser at the cables, causing one of them to snap, and the crystal to come back down slightly. More SWATbots are shooting grappling guns at Dinobot, trying to pin it down. Eventually, Dinobot is pinned, and the crystal almost makes it through the hole.
Chuck: This is it. We cut it loose now, or Mobius is finished!
Dinobot is able to raise its head and fires the laser, hitting another rope, which loosens the grip enough for the others to snap, and the crystal falls, along with the crane.
Chuck: We did it, sonny-boy! Now we gotta hook up with the others and get outta here!
The heroes run out of Dinobot.
(Control Center)
Sally: That’s it, everything is shut down, except for emergency power. Let’s get to the elevator.
They all run off, not noticing Stone making his way to another console. He presses a few buttons, and a secret elevator descends. He steps on it, and rides it up. The heroes are running from Dinobot with SWATbots shooting at them.
Chuck: Let’s go, let’s go!
They eventually make it to a minecart, which Chuck and Bunnie hide in. Sonic pushes them along the track. They make it back to the others, and hide behind the door. They run further, until Chuck leads them to another elevator, this one labeled “To Main Control”
Chuck: This is it. This elevator will take you right to Robotnik.
Sonic: Cool, let's go!
They all begin to run, except for Chuck, who stays behind.
Sonic: Uncle Chuck, what’s up?
Chuck: Sonic… I’m sorry… but I can’t go with you.
As he says this, he pulls out the power ring, which crumbles into dust.
Sonic: Uncle Chuck, no!
Chuck: It’s alright, Sonic. We saved Mobius. That's the important thing.
Sonic: Come on, there’s gotta be another way!
Chuck makes his way over to the control console for the elevator.
Chuck: I love you, Sonic. And I’m glad I got to see you again, even if it’s for the last time. Goodbye, sonny.
With that, he shoves Sonic onto the elevator and pushes the button, sending the elevator up.
Sonic: Uncle Chuck!
Everyone is frozen for a moment, before Sonic collapses and covers his face, tears in his eyes.
Sonic: I should’ve saved him…
Bunnie: You did what you could, honey. He was on borrowed time without that ring.
Sally: We’ll get him back another day, Sonic. Promise.
Rotor: Yeah. And look what we did with him! We totaled that crystal!
Antoine: Oui, your Uncle, he was magnifique!
Nicole lets out a beeping sound. Sally brings her out and shows her to Sonic.
Nicole: I was able to analyze the programming Robotnik uses to remove free will. In time, I may be able to counteract it. It won’t restore his body, but…
Sonic: But it’ll get his brain back, and that’s the important part.
Sonic gets up, wiping the tears from his face.
Sonic: Thanks guys. I really needed that. Hang in there, Uncle Chuck, we’ll be back.
(Elsewhere)
Robotnik is talking with Stone, who just came up from the mines.
Robotnik: What do you mean “The crystal is gone.”?!
Stone: They hijacked Dinobot, cut the ropes. The whole thing came crashing down. I’m sorry, Doctor.
Robotnik: Great, there goes our plan B! I assume the heroes are coming as we speak?
Stone: Most likely, Doctor.
Robotnik takes a deep breath before speaking.
Robotnik: Alright, new plan. I’ll make a break for the Sky Base. You two hold them off as long as you can.
Snively: How are we going to do that, sir?
Robotnik pushes a button, opening a door, and revealing his weapon for them.
Snively: Oh! Oh… But those things make me nauseous.
Robotnik: Suck it up! I won’t risk losing because you have a weak stomach! Now get in the piston, or I’ll make whatever the rodent does to you seem nice!
The two move towards the weapon as Robotnik runs off. He hops in the Eggmobile and flies off, with Cluck following behind him. Eventually, he reaches the end of the launch site, and abandons the Eggmobile, boarding the Sky Base.
Robotnik: Auto pilot! Get me out of here!
The ship begins to take off from the launch site.
Eventually, the elevator stops moving, and the heroes emerge in a hallway. They move down it, entering a room with several pistons on the ground.
Sonic: Alright, Eggman! Get ready for a beatdown!
Suddenly, a large piston almost crushes Sonic. Inside it is Agent Stone.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNSsLA_ye7Y
Stone: Oh, I’m ready!
Sonic attempts to attack, but hits the top of the piston instead, falling over. Suddenly, another piston appears with a queasy Snively inside it, trapping Sonic.
Stone: Still having fun, Sonic?!
Suddenly, the pistons retract.
Sonic: Running away, pal?
Suddenly, the four lights above the machine activate sending balls of electricity that the heroes dodge, though Sonic runs into Stone’s piston.
Stone: Ooh, another close one!
Sonic recovers, and attacks the piston, causing it to retract. Snively’s piston comes up.
Snively: Urgh, did we get him yet?
Sonic attacks his as well.
Snively: Ah, no!
The lights reactivate, sending more energy balls, which the heroes dodge, before Sonic attacks Stone again. Then, Sonic begins to bounce around the room at high speeds, impacting both pistons numerous times.
Snively: Time out! Mercy! Please!
Stone: No! Not yet! I need more time!
Eventually, the pistons are totaled, leaving both of the henchmen gasping for breath. Sonic gets on top of Stone and grabs him by the collar.
Sonic: No more running away for you, pal! Now where’s Robotnik?!
Stone: Gone. He left on the sky base, You’ll never catch him now.
Sonic: We’ll see about that.
He punches Stone again.
Sonic: You guys stay here and find a way to total this place. Robotnik’s mine.
They run out to the airstrip.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1EjRAzZ9-k&list=PL-XsqHp5sGzIIW9PCNxwslnut86Vgw_Mx&index=3
Sonic is making his way through the launch site, fighting through all of the obstacles and enemies. Eventually, he reaches the part where Robotnik ditched the Eggmobile, and sees the Sky Base taking off.
Sonic: Shoot, I’m too late! Robotnik’s gone! Unless…
He looks at the Eggmobile. Eventually, he decides to hop in.
Sonic: Alright, how do I make this thing go?
He notices an ON button.
Sonic: No way, it can’t be that easy, right?
He presses it, and the Eggmobile springs to life.
Sonic: Man, Ro-butt-nik’s practically defeating HIMSELF at this point! Alright, now where’s the speed dial?
He notices a lever off to the side with three speed settings, Light Breeze, High Wind, and Hurricane. Sonic sends it to its max speed, before accelerating, sending himself flying back, but eventually straightens himself out, laughing.
Sonic: Aw, yeah! Robotnik, here I come!
Sky Base Zone
Robotnik is in the control room of the Base, when alarms start going off.
Auto Pilot: WARNING. UNIDENTIFIED AIRCRAFT APPROACHING AT HIGH SPEEDS.
Robotnik: What?! Bring it up on the monitor!
An image is shown of Sonic speeding towards Robotnik in the Eggmobile.
Robotnik: Oh, he didn’t…! Auto Pilot, activate all defenses! Don’t let him reach the ship!
Outside the ship, Sonic is dodging all of the missiles and cannonballs, before eventually finding a place near the back of the ship to land. He does so, making his way past cannons and entering the ship. He continues to make his way through the ship, until he reaches the center. In a container to the left are the emeralds Robotnik has. At the end of the room is Robotnik himself, standing in a glass tube.
Sonic: So, you decided to try and face me yourself, huh Eggman? Good! I’ve been looking for a chance to throw down with you mono-e-egg-mono.
Robotnik: Enough talk! I’m done toying with you! Prepare to die!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8trV7a9cNc
He presses a button, causing a device at the end of the room to come forward. Suddenly, it emits an electric wall that closes in on Sonic, who runs to the back of the room. The wall stops before it hits him, briefly turning off to go back to the center. Sonic uses this opportunity to attack Robotnik, before the wall returns. As it closes in, a sphere of electricity is fired from above Robotnik’s tube, which Sonic dodges. After this, Robotnik begins following Sonic with the wall, attempting to zap him when he’s under it, while also firing multiple energy balls rapidly. However, Sonic dodges it, and gets a few more hits in. At this, Robotnik gets frustrated.
Robotnik: Stop it! I’m supposed to win! I’m the genius here!
Robotnik presses another button. Flames begin to emit from the floor in random intervals and patterns, giving Sonic even more to dodge. However, he perseveres, even when he gets hit, managing to attack Robotnik even more. Eventually, Sonic looks at the containment tube the Emeralds are in.
Robotnik: Don’t you dare…!
Sonic rushes at the capsule, curling into a ball and shattering it, grabbing all of the emeralds inside,
Robotnik: Rgghh! No, no, NO!
Sonic: Thanks for keeping all the Emeralds in one place for me, Eggman. Guess you’re not as smart as you think you are. Now, let’s wrap this up.
Sonic begins to rev up, building up more and more, before charging forward, curling into a ball, and ramming into Robotnik’s tube, completely shattering it, and knocking Robotnik on his back. He turns to look at the console Robotnik was using.
Sonic: Hmm… lemme just punch in a few new coordinates here…
He presses a few buttons, causing the ship to begin flying towards a nearby mountain. Just then, Robotnik gets up.
Sonic: Well, looks like your ship ain’t long for this world, Egghead.
Robotnik: You… You…! This isn’t over, rodent!
Sonic: You got that right, Eggman! Ciao!
Sonic runs back the way he came, leaving Robotnik in his dust. Robotnik growls in frustration, before running off into a room behind his capsule. Cluck is in the room, but quickly flaps to Robotnik’s shoulder. Robotnik hops onto a platform, pushes a few buttons on a console next to it, before the platform begins to glow. In an instant, both Cluck and Robotnik are gone. Sonic runs back to the Eggmobile, hopping in and speeding away, taking a moment to watch the ship go down. He flies back to the Scrap Brain.
While all of this has been happening, the other Freedom Fighters have made it to Robotnik’s office, with Antoine and Bunnie holding Snively and Stone captive respectively. The heroes begin to investigate the office, with Sally, plugging Nicole into the main computer.
Sally: Nicole, can you find anything?
Nicole: There are multiple things I can do here, Sally. I can disable all badniks on the island, free all captured animals, and send all the Robians to another location, far away from here using hover-pods. What would you like me to do?
Sally: All of the above.
Over the next few minutes, the changes are implemented. The badniks across the island deactivate, freeing the animals inside, the animals in the factory are set free, and flee into the wild, and transport pods take all the Robians, including Chuck, to other locations.
Sally: Nicole, is there a self-destruct option available?
Nicole: Yes Sally. Would you like me to activate it?
Sally: Not yet.
Sally turns to Snively, who is currently being guarded by Antoine.
Sally: Is there a way out of here quick enough to escape the self destruct?
Snively: Yes, follow me.
He leads them to an area with multiple pods.
Snively: Escape pods. Dr. Robotnik always liked to be safe rather than sorry.
Sally: Excellent. Nicole, activate.
Instantly, several sirens begin to go off.
Sally: Well, time to go.
Snively: Wait! You’re not just going to leave us here, are you?
Rotor: He’s got a point Sal. They might be rotten, but we can’t just let them die, can we?
Sally thinks for a minute. Eventually, she snaps her fingers. Antoine and Bunnie let Snively and Stone go.
Sally: Get out of here.
Snively nods, activating one of the pods, letting Stone in before climbing in himself.
Snively: Thank you.
He inputs a few coordinates, presses a button inside the pod, and it closes before it takes off. Sally disconnects Nicole, before activating a pod of her own. The heroes all climb in, before Sally inputs her coordinates, and the pod leaves as the Scrap Brain explodes behind it.
(Green Hill Zone)
The pod crashes into the pastures, with the heroes all crawling out of it. Sally makes sure everyones okay.
Sally: Alright, now all we have to do is wait for Sonic.
As if on cue…
Sonic: Look out below!
Sonic crashes the Eggmobile a few feet from the pod, with everyone coming to check on him.
Sonic: Man, I’m sure glad I picked the right pod.
Everyone begins to celebrate their victory, with Sally giving Sonic a kiss on the cheek.
Sally: So, what do we do now, Mr. Hero?
Sonic: What else? Let's head home!
The heroes all nod, before beginning to head off.
The townsfolk are celebrating the first real victory against Robotnik, with a party being held in the Freedom Fighters honor. When the part is over, they all decide to head back to their secret hideout, with the Emeralds hanging on a wall.
Sally: Are you sure hanging them on a wall like this is a good idea, Sonic?
Sonic: Hey, you never know when we might need 'em again.
Tails: You think Robotnik’s gonna come back, Sonic?
Sonic: Probably. And if he does, I’ll be ready for him. We’ll all be.
Tails: Cool! Now, can you tell me about your adventure?
Sonic: Course! So, it all started in the Green Hills…
Sonic proceeds to tell his brother about the adventure he and his friends had.
(Robotropolis)
Robotnik has returned, along with Stone and Snively, watching a camera feed showing him the flaming ruins of both the Scrap Brain and the Sky Base.
Robotnik: I HATE that hedgehog.
Snively: Of course, sir. And you have every reason to. So, what’s the plan now?
Robotnik: The plan, Snively, is to find where those vermin are hiding, and force them out, so I can deal with them easily. In the meantime, try fixing whatever’s wrong with the emerald satellite! I want those emeralds!
Stone: I’ll have the worker-bots get right on it. Until then, do you want another latte, doctor?
Robotnik: Of course I want a latte, I love the way you make them!
