The New Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog: Westside Island

Summary:

And here we have Sonic Two, with a side of SATAM.

Work Text:

In Robotropolis, Robotnik is sitting in his chair when Stone comes in.

Stone: Doctor, I’ve got great news!

Robotnik: It’d better be, with the week I’ve had.

Stone: Well, we were able to get the Emerald Radar back up and running.

Robotnik: Wait, does that mean…?

Stone: We know where the Emeralds are, doctor. All of them.

Robotnik: Well, show me!

Stone presses a few buttons on the console, bringing up the image of an island with seven points on it glowing.

Robotnik: Westside Island… And we found all seven this time?

Stone: Yes, doctor, that’s all of them.

At this, Robotnik begins to laugh.

Robotnik: Yes! Finally, they’ll all be mine! Prepare the Wing Fortress and alert the Metropolis! We’re going to Westside Island!

Stone: Right away, Doctor!

Meanwhile, The heroes are spending time in Knothole, when Sally comes in.

Sally: Guys, I just heard from our spymaster. According to what I’ve found out, Robotnik found the emeralds again.

Sonic: Oh, man, that guy never gives up.

Rotor: Well, where are they?

Sally: The emeralds are located somewhere on the Westside Island.

Sonic: Alright, let's move out!

The heroes all make their way to the Tornado.

Rotor: Wait, what about Tails? I mean, there isn’t enough room on the plane for all of us, and we can’t just leave him behind.

Sonic: Don’t worry, Rote, I’ve got the perfect solution.

As they approach the plane, they see Tails sitting in the pilot seat.

Tails: The plane’s ready to go whenever you are, Sonic!

Sally: Sonic, you can’t be serious!

Sonic: Relax, Sal. Uncle Chuck taught Tails how to fly the Tornado too, and he hasn’t crashed it a single time! Come on, give him a chance?

Sally: Alright, alright. Let’s get going.

The heroes all board the plane, before it takes off, heading towards Westside Island.

At the same time, Robotnik and the others have arrived at the Metropolis, and are in the main office.

Robotnik: Alright. Now that we’re here, we can get to work trying to think up ways to stop the Freedom Fighters. Any ideas?

Stone: Well, doctor, I’ve been working on something for a while now. A little… pet project.

Robotnik: Alright, let's see it.

The group make their way to Stone’s room, where he picks up what appears to be a small potted plant.

Robotnik: That’s it?! Your secret weapon is a PLANT?! Getting rid of plants is one of the whole reasons we’re doing this, you moron!

Stone: It’s not actually a plant, doctor! It’s just a machine that looks like a plant!

Robotnik: Huh?

He takes a look at the plant, seeing that it is, in fact, made of metal.

Stone: I call it the Krudzu.

Robotnik: Ah, I see! And what exactly does this “Krudzu” do?

Stone: Well, doctor, I named it after a type of vine in the east. That vine can grow and overtake large portions of land at a time. They can envelop trees, machines…

Suddenly, the Krudzu in the pot grows, wrapping Snively in its vines.

Snively: Sir, it has me!

Stone: …and even living creatures, as you can see. The Krudzu is capable of all that, and so much more.

Robotnik: Oh! Alright, how do you think we should use it against the Freedom Fighters?

Stone: Well, I was thinking we could have the Burrowbots seed their current area. The Krudzu only needs a minute or two to fully grow.

Robotnik: It’s genius! This is why you’re my right hand man, Stone!

He grabs Snively, yanking him free from the Krudzu.

Robotnik: Snively, I want every Burrowbot we have loaded with Krudzu seeds, and deployed to the Freedom Fighters current location!

Snively: I’ll get right on it, sir.

Emerald Hill Zone

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CGfq-pIiS8

The heroes arrive on the Emerald Hills, landing the tornado.

Sonic: Alright, Sal. What’s the plan?

Sally: We keep moving until we find either Robotnik, or one of the Emeralds.

Sonic: Alright, let’s do it to it!

The heroes begin to make their way through the hillsides, defeating badniks and grabbing rings as they go. Eventually, they find an odd looking pillar sticking out of the ground.

Sonic: What the heck is that thing?

Sally: I don’t know. I’ve never seen anything like it before.

Sonic spins the top of the pillar, causing a sparkling ring to emerge from it.

Sonic: I think I”ve got a pretty good feeling about what this is. Alright, I’ll be back soon.

Tails: Can I come with you, Sonic?

Sonic: Hmm, I don’t know…

Tails: Please?

Sonic: Alright, come on.

The two leap into the sparkling ring, disappearing. The rest sit down.

Sally: Well, nothing to do now but wait for them to come back.

Antoine: While you are doing that, I will be performing the looking out.

Antoine wanders off.

Antoine: My princess, she works so hard, and we are barely rewarding her for her efforts. I must be giving her a gift, to showing her my appreciation. But what?

He ponders for a minute, before noticing an odd patch of plants.

Antoine: Ah-ha! Of course! I will be gifting her a lovely bouquet of flowers!

Antoine walks towards the plants, not noticing the way they twitch. Meanwhile, Sonic and Tails end up in the Special Zone.

Tails: Woah, is this the Special Zone, Sonic?

Sonic: Yeah, but it looks different than last time…

Omni: That is because I desire it to be so, Sonic.

Suddenly, the face of Omni appears before them, startling Tails.

Sonic: Don’t worry, pal. He won’t hurt us. Omni, this is Tails, my little brother. Tails, Omni the Viewer.

Tails: N-nice to meet you, Mr. Viewer.

Omni: The same to you, Tails. I assume you’re both here for the Chaos Emeralds?

Sonic: Yeah, so you can bring up the maze now.

Omni: Oh, you won’t be doing that, friend. As I can decide how you enter the Special Zone, so, too, can I decide what trials you must face to obtain the Emerald.

Sonic: Alright, pal. What’ve you got in mind this time?

Omni: It is simple. You and your friend must run through my corridor, collecting rings as you go. If you obtain enough rings by the end, the Emerald is yours.

Sonic: That’s it? Easy peasy! Ready, pal?

Tails: Yeah, let’s do it!

Omni: Then let the trial for the Emerald commence!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yslNrKXgiPw

The two are warped into a half-pipe and begin running, gathering rings and avoiding bombs. Eventually, they reach the end of the pipe.

Omni: You have completed the trial, and thus, the Emerald is yours.

The Emerald appears, and Sonic grabs it. The portal back opens up.

Tails: Thanks, Omni! See you next time!

Tails leaves the Special Zone. Before Sonic can follow, he is interrupted by Omni.

Omni: Sonic, I couldn’t help but notice that you used the six emeralds you collected before they arrived back here.

Sonic: Yeah, and when I did, I ended up as some crazy monster! What was that about?

Omni: The Chaos Emeralds have the ability to transform thoughts into power. Because you lacked the final emerald, that power was imbalanced, and as such, your negative thoughts came to the forefront.

Sonic: So, if I've got all seven Emeralds, and I absorb them, I shouldn’t transform into that thing again?

Omni: That is the most likely outcome.

Sonic: Right, thanks Omni. Catch you later!

Sonic leaves the Special Zone, arriving next to the Freedom Fighters.

Sally: Sonic, do you have it?

Sonic pulls out the Emerald.

Sonic: Did you ever doubt me? Hey, where’s Ant?

Suddenly, they here a shriek coming from further back. They rush over, only to see Antoine covered in a vine-like substance.

Antoine: Do not just be standing there, help me!

Sonic: Hold on, Ant, I’m coming.

Sonic curls into a ball, before charging at where Antoine is being grabbed, cutting him free and causing the plant to slink back into the ground.

Sonic: How you feeling, buddy?

Antoine: Dizzy, weak, and very confused.

Sonic: Oh good, you’re feeling normal.

Bunnie: What in the heck kind of crazy plant was that?

Tails: It’s not a plant.

Bunnie: Huh?

Tails and Rotor are examining the pieces of Krudzu left over from Sonic's spin dash.

Rotor: Yeah! Look, wires! This thing’s a robot!

Sally: But if it’s a robot, that means…

Sonic: Robotnik. Gotta give him credit, he’s real creative when it comes to taking us down.

Sally: We’ve gotta stop this thing, before it spreads any further!

Bunnie: Uh, I think it might be a little late for that, Sally-girl…

They all run over to the hill where Bunnie is standing, only to see the entire hillside covered in Krudzu.

Sonic: Oh, man! How are we gonna get rid of that? I can’t spin-dash the whole valley!

Tails: Guys, look, the plants are avoiding the water!

Rotor: Maybe because it’s harmful to them!

Bunnie: Well, unless we’ve got a five thousand foot garden hose, I don’t see how that’s gonna help us.

Sonic: We might not have a hose, but we’ve got something better: Me!

Sonic spin-dashes his way towards the nearest water source, cutting through the Krudzu. When he reaches it, he begins to run around the lake at high speeds, causing the water to rise, sending water flying everywhere. On contact, the Krudzu begins to short circuit, shrinking back into the ground. He then does it again and again, until all the Krudzu is completely gone.

Sonic: There we go! Now the green is all natural, just the way I like it!

Sally: Great job, Sonic. Now, let’s keep going.

The heroes make their way forward.

Back in Metropolis, Robotnik and the others are watching this on a screen.

Robotnik: It seems you forgot to mention your “pet project”s weakness, Stone.

Stone: Well, it seemed pretty complete, sir, and I was so excited to show you that I may have, um, forgotten to find its weaknesses?

Robotnik: You idiot! You couldn’t be bothered to check if your plant could be defeated by a squirt gun?! This is why I’m in charge, because the rest of you are too stupid to do anything yourselfs!

Snively shoots a smug smirk towards Stone.

Robotnik: No matter. I’ve already prepared something for the heroes. Well, six somethings, actually. Come on!

He leads the two towards a door to the side, opening it, we see four robots in capsules resembling animals, like a boar, a seal, a goose, and an antlion.

Robotnik: Behold, the Super Badniks! These machines were designed for the sole purpose of defeating anyone they come across. They’re smarter, stronger, and tougher than the average machine. With these machines, I will be unstoppable!

Snively: Sir, I couldn’t help but notice there are six capsules in here, but only four machines.

Robotnik: Well, you see, one of the Super Badniks isn’t finished being built yet. And I’ve already sent the other to destroy the Freedom Fighters. Speaking of, you should go there too, Stone. Just in case.

Stone: Yes, doctor.

Stone leaves.

Back in the Emerald Hills, The heroes are approaching a marker.

Sonic: Oh, more of these things. Good thing I brought some more spray paint!

As they approach, something drops from the sky in front of them. It appears to be an orange pig robot with a blue apron tied around its waist.

Sonic: Woah, who the heck are you?! And what do you want?!

Sumo Master: Designation: Sumo Master. Purpose: Destroy Freedom Fighters.

Sonic: Oh yeah? Go ahead and try, porky!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DokvJePVBgs

Sonic rushes forward, hitting the Sumo Master, who responds by curling into a ball and leaping up, attempting to crush Sonic. He gets another hit, and the robot attempts to crush Sonic again. He misses, and Sonic attacks again. This time, the bot attempts to roll into Sonic, but misses and is hit. The bot keeps jumping and rolling, but keeps getting attacks. Eventually, the bot charges up, and attempts to crash right into Sonic. However, he dodges, and attacks the bot again. After some more attacks, the bot is defeated.

Sonic: I never was a fan of bacon.

The heroes walk bast the machine, walking over to the sign. Sonic flips it over and tags it.

Tails: Why’d you do that, Sonic?

Sonic: To make it actually look good! Now come on, let’s keep going!

The heroes proceed onwards, defeating more badniks along the way. Eventually, they make it to a clearing. Suddenly, a machine with a drill at the front came out, almost hitting the heroes, before stopping. Suddenly, Agent Stone comes flying down in the Eggmobile, before landing it in the machine.

Sonic: Oh, come on! Don’t you ever give up?

Stone: I’ll give up when you do. Now come on, let’s do this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf2aBgoHGVs

Stone attempts to ram into the heroes. They dodge, and they all manage to get hits on Stone everytime he tries to attack. Eventually, he tries firing the drill at Sonic, who dodges and finishes off the machine, causing Stone to retreat.

Sonic: Some people never learn.

Sonic smashes another capsule, and the heroes keep moving.

Stone returns, with Robotnik and Snively waiting.

Stone: Sorry, doctor, I couldn’t beat them.

Robotnik: Of course you did. Ugh, how did they even manage to find out I was coming here?! They must have some kind of spy helping them out! Snively, I’m giving you a new assignment: Track down any information on who the spy could be!

Snively: Yes, sir, I’ll get on it as soon as I can.

Robotnik: In the meantime, I’m going to need all the help I can get dealing with the Freedom Fighters. That means it’s time to bring… THEM back into the fold.

Snively: Sir, is that truly necessary?

Robotnik: I said I’d give them another chance, and I always keep my promises.

He walks towards an intercom, activating it.

Robotnik: Scratch! Grounder! Coconuts! My office, now!

After a few seconds, the sound of running is heard, before Scratch and Grounder burst through the door at the same time, getting stuck, before being pushed in by Coconuts.

Scratch: You called for us, doctor?

Grounder: Are we back on?

Coconuts: Please give us our jobs back, oh please oh please oh please oh please oh please!

Robotnik: Quiet! Yes, the reason I called you all here was so that I could give you all permission to go after the Freedom Fighters. So get going and get to work!

The three robots begin to celebrate, laughing.

Scratch: Look out, heroes, because the Super Special Sonic Search & Smash Squad is back in business!

The heroes arrive at a massive Chemical Plant, with the entrance guarded by a platoon of Swatbots.

Sonic: Oh, man, how are we gonna get in there?

Sally: With a little help from our guy on the inside…

Sally begins to dig at a specific spot on the ground, eventually pulling out a small box. She opens it and retrieves a small canister like device.

Sally: An EMP grenade. This should let us take out the SWATbots.

Sally throws the grenade, causing a large shockwave of energy to occur, knocking out all of the SWATbots. They approach the entrance.

Sally: Nicole, can you unlock this door for us?

Nicole: I will try, Sally.

Sally connects Nicole to the door, and after a few minutes, the door opens.

Sonic: Not bad, Nicole! Alright, let’s move!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWzVbQ-LOEc&list=PLi3xtpbE8F0C42DQhPFXa7N3u7J8eA5MG&index=4

The heroes make their way through the Chemical Plant, picking up a Chaos Emerald along the way. Eventually, they make it to a part of the plant filled with containers of a very familiar liquid.

Sally: Mega Mack! This place must be where Robotnik pumps the stuff out!

Sally: What’s in this stuff, anyway?

Unknown Voice: Mega Mack: One part petroleum, one part quick sand, one part clay mud, and a pinch of carnation for color!

Sonic: What was that?!

Suddenly, one of the containers burst open, causing the room to be covered in Mega Mack. Then, some of the Mega Mack rises up, eventually forming a face.

Megatox: “That” was me, hedgehog! And you can call me Megatox!

Sonic: Alright, what’s your story pal?

Megatox: I used to be an ordinary scientist, and I specialized in creating chemicals! However, I was unable to receive funding for my projects from “moral” sources, so I turned towards the only person who took notice of my talents: Robotnik! We made a deal; I would produce Mega Mack for him, and he would allow me to continue my other experiments. One of those was a special control device that would allow me to control the Mega Mack with my brain! It worked… a little too well. My body was destroyed, but my mind, my intellect remained, becoming one with the chemical itself! After this, Robotnik added an additional term to our agreement; I would protect the Chemical Plant from all who would try and destroy it, including you!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DokvJePVBgs

During this, we see the events Megatox describes. After this, Megatox uses the Mega Mack to grab the other’s, holding them above the ground.

Sonic: Hey, you better put them down, or I swear I’ll-

As he says this, he charges into Megatox, but instead passes through him.

Megatox: I think I’d rather put YOU down, rodent!

Megatox then begins to fire a “beam” of Mega Mack at Sonic’s face. In response, Sonic begins to spin rapidly, pulling Megatox’s body apart. With this, the others fall.

Sonic: You all okay?

Sally: Yeah, but it’s going to take months for this stuff to get out of my fur!

Suddenly, the Mega Mack begins to rise, reforming into a laughing Megatox, with more heads.

Megatox: You stupid rat! I am made of liquid, and that means you can’t harm me! I am invincible!

Sonic: More like insufferable. Hang on, guys. I’ve got a plan.

Suddenly, Sonic dives into the Mega Mack, burrowing into the ground, before exiting out into the hill side. He runs back in as Megatox begins to leak out, spilling over onto the countryside. The others decide to follow him, peering out at Megatox trying to reconstitute himself and move, but failing.

Tails: Look at that! Without a big enough container, Megatox can’t do anything!

Sonic: Come on guys, we should keep moving now that Megatox is Mega-toast.

They enter back into the hole, leaving Megatox behind.

Megatox: This isn’t over, Sonic! I’ll be back, just you wait!

The heroes proceed through the chemical plant, destroying badniks. As they are doing this, the S6 is busy putting the finishing touches on another one of their traps. Scratch is pushing back a device that resembles a giant mouse trap.

Scratch: Alright, put out the bait!

Grounder pulls out a worm, which Scratch knocks out of his hands.

Scratch: The doll, you dodo, the doll!

Grounder: Oh yeah.

Grounder pulls out a doll resembling Tails with a cord on it’s belly.

Coconuts: If what the doc says is true, the Hedgehog really cares about this guy, and that makes him the perfect bait!

Grounder throws the doll on the end of the trap.

Scratch: Will you be careful?! Now hide! They’ll be along any second!

On cue, the Freedom Fighters come running by, seeing the device with the Tails doll on it. Eventually, Sonic starts laughing.

Sonic: Oh man! Robotnik is really slipping if he expects me to fall for something this bogus! Hmm, there’s only one group of bots I know who’d think this would work, and if I’m right…

Sonic begins to look around, before finding what appears to be the S6. He grabs the three, and throws them onto the mouse trap.

Sonic: Man, after the last time we met, you guys have really lost your… touch?

Sonic moves over towards the three, noticing their heads are filled with cotton instead of metal.

Sonic: Those dummies ARE dummies!

Scratch: Now, now, now! Spring the trap!

Grounder pushes a button on a controller, causing giant mechanical jaws to surround the trap and Sonic, who barely gets out of the way.

Sonic: Woah, talk about a close shave!

Scratch: You dope! If you weren’t so slow, we would’ve had him!

The heroes turn towards the sound of the arguing. Sonic gestures for them to get behind the still exposed jaws.

Grounder: Well, look on the bright side, Scratch! At least we didn’t get thrashed this time!

Coconuts: Yeah, I can’t remember the last time we went against Sonic, and didn’t get-

Suddenly, the three are grabbed by Sonic and thrown in front of the jaws, which are pushed over by the others, crushing them.

Coconuts: -thrashed!

The heroes all decide to keep moving.

Sonic: Guess I shouldn’t underestimate those guys, no matter how dumb they are.

Eventually, they reach a place leading into the main control room. However, as they approach, they are interrupted by Snively, piloting the Eggmobile.

Sonic: What are you doing here, Slime-ly? Did you miss getting your butt kicked?

Snively: What I’m doing here is none of your business, rodents. But while I’m here, I must as well try and defeat you!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf2aBgoHGVs

Snively begins to suck up Mega Mack from the bottom of the area as some of the floor panels begin to flip. Sonic begins attacking Snively, before he tries to drop a large amount of Mega Mack on the heroes. They all dodge, and defeat him after he drops another, causing him to retreat.

Sonic: You know, I think that might be the lamest one yet.

They enter the main control room, with Sally connecting Nicole to the main computer.

Nicole: From here, I can disable all badniks, destroy all Mega Mack currently existing, and activate the self destruct. What would you like me to do, Sally?

Sally: Do the first two. Then, once the animals can escape, activate the self-destruct.

Nicole: Of course, Sally.

After some time, Nicole comes back online.

Nicole: No other life forms detected. Activating self-destruct.

Sonic: Time to motor!

The others all grab on to Sonic, who begins to run from the Chemical Plant as it explodes, with everyone escaping.

Sonic: Alright! Now let’s keep going!

The heroes proceed onwards to their next destination.

Back in Metropolis, Snively returns, with something behind his back.

Robotnik: Well? Were you able to find anything about our spy?

Snively: Well, sir, I was able to find this box near the Chemical Plant. There was a note inside it. I think it’s for you.

He pulls out the box. Robotnik looks inside and takes out the note, reading it.

Robotnik: “Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of Robotnik?!” Grah, they’re taunting me! Snively, have this note and the box analyzed! I want this spy!

Snively: Of course sir.

Some time later...

We see a large building in the middle of the ruins. A large, snake-like machine emerges from it, shooting a laser into the ground, leaving a hole behind that the robotic snake dives into. We see a screen showing the snake moving downwards, before it hits a large black spot.

Stone: Alright, another oil lake!

We see Stone and Snively are inside the facility, operating it.

Snively: Is this really necessary? The Oil Ocean rig is surely producing more than enough oil on its own.

Stone: Look, if we’re going to power the secret weapon, we’re going to need all the fuel we can get, and it’s better safe than sorry. How much do we have so far?

Snively: Thirty six percent, but by the end of the day, it should be fifty.

Stone: For what the doctor has planned, we’ll need a lot more than fifty percent.

Snively sighs.

Snively: Listen, we’ve been running this facility at maximum capacity for ten days-

Stone: And we’ll go for a hundred, if that’s what it takes. We need that oil, and we’re going to get it all, no matter what. If you don’t like that, you can leave. After all, don’t you have a spy to be looking for?

Snively looks shocked, before walking off, muttering under his breath.

Snively: Spineless sycophant…

Suddenly, a siren begins to go off. Stone checks the screen, seeing the Freedom Fighters approaching.

Stone: Ah, there you are.

He presses a button on his console.

Stone: Balance Master, move out!

Deep below ground, the snake prob makes its way through a series of underground caves, passing by a large, octopus-like creature sitting on a throne. The creature wakes up and walks off deeper into the cave. The Snake-Probe wraps around the throne, before firing a laser at a nearby wall, causing a hole to form. The probe crawls through the hole, ignoring the oddly green water, which eventually sprouts up on the surface.

Meanwhile, the heroes arrive in the Ruins, looking around before noticing that the plants around the area seem to be dead or dying.

Tails: How come the plants are dying, Sally?

Sally: It must be because of Robotnik’s pollution. But what could be causing it?

Sonic: Let’s find out and smash it before things get worse.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nci7IaulSx4

The heroes begin to make their way through the Ruins, picking up another Emerald as they do. Eventually, after getting through some water, they come across some dying plants.

Sonic: Oh great, just what I needed. More water! Like the Chemical Plant wasn’t enough…

Sonic absent-mindedly knocks some water from his ears, which lands on a dead flower. Suddenly, it springs to life, growing even taller.

Sonic: Woah, what’s up with the flower?

Antoine: Fantastic!

Sally: Oh my gosh! Sonic, what did you do?

Sonic: I don’t know, I just knocked water out of my ear, like this!

He knocks more water out over a dying tree, causing it to grow full-size instantaneously.

Tails: Woah, cool, Sonic!

Antoine: I do not believing my ears!

Sally: Guys, if we can find the source of this water, we might be able to bring this place back to life!

They begin to follow the water, eventually finding a large hole, with water spilling out.

Sonic: That’s gotta be where the water’s coming from! Come on, guys!

As they’re about to enter, they are suddenly ambushed by what appears to be a robotic seal.

Sonic: Another one of these creeps, eh? Alright, bring it on!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DokvJePVBgs

The seal begins to inflate a ball with its nose. It sends it up into the air, where it lands on the seal, injuring it. It then lunges at Sonic, beginning to balance him on its nose, before bouncing Sonic off. The seal then attempts to blow up another ball, but Sonic pops it, injuring the seal. This cycle then repeats until the seal is defeated.

Sonic: You know, I almost felt sorry for the guy.

Sally: Alright, Bunnie, you and Tails stay here while the rest of us go looking for the water.

Bunnie: You’ve got it, Sally-girl!

Tails: Do I have to stay, Sally?

Sonic: It isn’t like that, dude. You’re just keeping look out with Bunnie, okay?

Tails: Oh, ok!

They all begin to crawl through the hole, entering a deep cave, with a large body of water flowing out of the hole.

Sally: Oh my gosh, where are we?

Rotor: That’s what I wanna know.

Sonic: Looks like some kind of underground lake!

As they keep walking on the edge next to the water, they notice some machines resting in the water.

Sonic: Definitely a dump!

Sally: Which means Robotnik can’t be far. Nicole, check map file for subterranean.

Nicole: Checking, Sally. No subterranean file exists.

Sally: Looks like we’re on our own, guys.

As they keep going, they don’t notice a shadow looming over them.

Sonic: Least we don’t have to worry about Robotnik’s bot’s, right, Ant? Ant?

They all turn to see Antoine missing.

Sally: Where did he go?

Rotor: Maybe he fell in the river!

Sonic: Let’s keep moving, maybe we’ll find him up ahead.

The heroes keep moving, calling Antoine’s name. Eventually, Sonic notices the water looking off color and polluted.

Sonic: Oh man, this is some major mong!

Suddenly. The water begins to get higher.

Sally: The water’s rising!

Sonic looks around, before noticing some vines growing out of the ceiling. He jumps up and grabs them.

Sonic: Grab on, guys!

The others leap onto Sonic’s legs as the ground beneath them is covered by the water. Sonic begins to climb the vines over to another part of the cave covered in greenery. The heroes begin to call for Antoine again, before Rotor notices something.

Rotor: Hey guys, you get the feeling we’re being watched?

Sonic: By who, the plants?

Rotor: I don’t know, I just feel something watching us.

Sally: You’re just paranoid, Rotor.

Sally approaches a large yellow flower.

Sallt: Oh, look at this beautiful flower!

Suddenly, the flower attempts to bite her, causing Sonic to run over.

Sonic: What’s that, a snapdragon?

Sally: Sonic, behind you!

Another flower appears, and they both try to bite Sonic.

Sonic: Alright, that does it. Now you’re making me mad!

Sonic grabs the two, before using his speed to tangle them up.

Sonic: That’s what you get for being rude!

Rotor: Sonic, Sally’s gone!

Sonic: Gone?!

Rotor: She was right next to me, then she disappeared!

The two walk deeper into the cave, calling for Sally, before they come across the throne room.

Sonic: Man, this looks like some kinda palace!

Rotor: Yeah, and what’s with this smell? Just like Robotropolis…

Sonic: Doesn’t anybody take out the trash around here? Ew!

Rotor: Wow, look at this!

The two approach the throne, before they are startled by a sound.

Sonic: Wait here, Rote. I’ll scope it out.

Sonic runs off, coming across a large open space.

Sonic: Ant, Sally, you guys in here?

Suddenly, Sonic turns around to see the creature approaching him. Rotor here’s him yelling, before seeing the creature carrying him.

Sonic: Bail, Rote! Warp ten!

Rotor runs away before tripping on a rock. As the creature approaches, Rotor falls through a hole in the floor.

Sonic: Rotor! Lemme go, man! My main walrus needs help!

Kraken: Look what you have done to my world, surface creature!

Sonic: Pal, I know you’re having a bad hair day, but I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about!

Kraken: I will show you what I’m talking about!

Below, Rotor falls into a river of green water.

Rotor: What is this stuff? Wait a sec… It’s that same green water! No wonder this place is so green!

Suddenly, the cave begins to rumble, causing some rocks to fall from above. Rotor pushes the rocks away, causing the water to flow further into the cave. Rotor pulls out a bottle and takes some of the water. The plants above begin to suck up some of the water through their roots, causing them to grow. Meanwhile, Sonic, Sally, and Antoine are stuck in a tar pit.

Antoine: Oh, this is terrible! Terrible! Sonic, can you not be getting us out of here?

Sonic: I can’t, cause this pollution pit’s zapping all my juice!

Suddenly the pit begins to get higher.

Sally: Sonic, the pit’s rising! Try to get to the power ring!

Elsewhere, Rotor comes across a large body of what appears to be black water. He sticks a finger in and smells it.

Rotor: Oil…

Suddenly, a light shines from above. Rotor looks up to see what appears to be a machine.

Rotor: Robotnik!

Suddenly, a Snake-droid descends from the ceiling.

Rotor: Woah, what is that?!

The Snake-droid shoots a laser which Rotor dodges. He runs deeper into the cave, eventually hearing the others.

Rotor: Guys!

He runs into the room with the pit, seeing the others.

Sonic: Hurry, Rote, get the power ring!

Antoine: Yes, yes, please do hurry!

Rotor: I’m coming guy’s! Hang on!

He grabs a piece of wood nearby, leaning it against a machine to cross it. Suddenly, a green tentacle grabs Rotor’s leg and tries to pull him in, with Rotor grabbing a rock to stop it.

Sonic: Fight it, Rote! Fight it!

Sally: Rotor, hold on!

Rotor smacks his leg against a rock, causing the tentacle to let go.

Sonic: Way to go, Rote!

Antoine: Hurry, the slime is rising!

Rotor pulls Sonic up, eventually getting his bag and an arm free. Rotor takes a Power Ring out from the bag and hands it to Sonic.

Rotor: Go, Sonic!

Sonic uses the power ring to escape and free Sally, while Rotor helps Antoine. They all catch their breath on the side.

Sonic: Thanks, Rote. You’re a hero, man.

Sally kisses Rotor on the cheek.

Sally: A big hero.

Antoine: Oui. As one big hero to another, I salute you, Rotor!

Antoine salutes Rotor.

Rotor: Ah, it was no big deal.

Suddenly, the cave begins to shake.

Rotor: We gotta jam, it’s the snake probes!

Sally: Snake probes?

Rotor: They’re laser powered diggers! Robotnik is using them to dig for oil.

Sally: Oh great, we should have known Robotnik was behind this!

Sonic: Let’s juice!

They all run off, before eventually running into the creature blocking the way.

Kraken: There is no escape, Surface Dwellers! You will die from this pollution, as all my people have.

Sonic: You keep talking, big guy, and I’ll just keep on wondering what you’re saying.

Kraken: I was once king of a beautiful world. But everything was destroyed by you surface creatures! And I… am the only one left.

Sonic: This isn’t our pollution!

Sally: There’s another surface creature. His name is Robotnik. He’s polluted our world as well as yours!

Suddenly, two snake probes burst from the wall and ensnare the Kraken. Another probe emerges, closer to the heroes. It fires a laser which Sonic dodges.

Sonic: Rote, where are these things coming from?

Rotor: The surface! Robotnik’s drilling platform!

Sonic: I’m going up!

Sonic runs up the tunnel the snake probe came crawling out of, eventually ending up at the drilling platform.

Sonic: Man, this is major!

Sonic runs up the building. As he does, Stone is watching the security cameras in the control room. Suddenly, he notices Sonic running up the building.

Stone: Code red, Code red!

Suddenly, sirens begin blaring from the building. Swatbots come out of the door next to where Sonic is. Sonic runs to the other side, noticing more Swatbots coming out. Sonic runs up the side of the building. Stone begins to panic.

Stone: Come on, activate the snake probes…!

As he is about to press a red button, Sonic enters the room and leaps on the chair in front of Stone.

Sonic: Quick question, can this chair go in reverse?

Stone: No,no,no,no,no!

Sonic presses a button on the chair, sending it and Stone backwards as Sonic leaps off.

Sonic: Yep!

Sonic begins inspecting the console.

Sonic: Snake probes emergency destruct… yeah, my kinda button!

Sonic presses the button, causing all the snake probes to emerge from the ground and explode. As they are, Stone is trying to escape on the Stone mobile. He overhears the sound of the explosions.

Stone: This can’t be happening! No, no, no, NO!

Sonic: Past cool, hedgehog! Past cool! Now, I wonder what’ll happen if I press ALL the buttons? Only one way to find out!

Sonic begins to press all the buttons at random, humming. As he does, the main screen begins to flash red.

Sonic: Uh-oh, I’m outta here!

Sonic runs out of the platform just as it explodes. Eventually, he meets up with the Freedom Fighters and the Kraken at the oil pit Rotor was at.

Rotor: Well, here goes.

He pours in the water he bottled earlier, causing the oil to turn into water.

Sally: Oh, it’s beautiful!

Sonic: Yeah, too bad there’s not enough for up top.

The Kraken pulls out a bag.

Kraken: Take this, Sonic. Maybe it will help.

Sonic: Thanks, big guy! And, uh, lemme know if you ever wanna go fishing!

They all laugh before the Freedom Fighters take their leave. Eventually, they reunite with the others.

Tails: Sonic, what happened down there?

Sonic: I’ll tell you later, dude. Sally?

Sally walks over to the water.

Sally: Okay, keep your finger’s crossed, guys.

She empties the bag into the water. Instantly, the plants around them begin to come back to life.

Sally: We did it!

Sonic: Yep! And we couldn’t have done it without this guy! How’s it feel to be a hero, Rote?

Rotor: Exhausting. From now on, I’m happy to be a handyman.

Sally: Come on guys, let’s get out of here.

The heroes make their way through the ruins. As they reach the end, many pillars rise from the ground.

Sonic: Oh boy. Big fight incoming, guys.

On cue, a very angry Stone descends from the sky, a massive hammer on the Stone Mobile.

Stone: Do you have any idea what you cost me by destroying that platform?!

Sonic: A saved ecosystem and a bunch of Swatbots?

Stone: You know, I was happy with you just being a bunch of people I have to try and fight every once and a while. It wasn’t personal before. But now? It’s very, VERY personal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf2aBgoHGVs

Stone moves over to one of the pillars and hits it with the hammer, causing an arrow to fly out. The heroes dodge it, and Sonic uses it to hit Stone. Stone tries this move a few more times, but fails everytime.

Sonic: Come on! What’s the point of having a giant hammer if you’re not gonna try and smash us with it.

Stone: Alright, if you say so!

Stone attempts to crush Sonic with the hammer, before chagrin towards Sonic to hit him again. Sonic dodges his attacks, replying with a few of his own. Stone attempts a spinning move, But Sonic dodges that as well. Eventually, Stone is defeated and runs off. The heroes free another capsule before moving on.

Back in Mobotropolis, Stone returns to Robotnik.

Stone: Alright, doctor. I have good news and bad news.

Robotnik: Start with the bad, Stone.

Stone: Well, the Aquatic Ruins drilling platform was destroyed.

Robotnik: And the good?

Stone: Well, I was able to save the oil we got there.

Robotnik pauses, before responding.

Robotnik: Well, as long as we got SOME oil, I guess it wasn’t a complete waste. The Oil Ocean should give us more than enough for our secret weapon.

Stone sighs in relief as Robotnik presses a button on the console.

Robotnik: Snively, what’s your status?

Snively: Well, sir, truth be told, I wasn’t able to discover much. BUT, I was able to intercept his broadcasting signal and discover his next location.

Robotnik: And?

Snively: According to what I’ve found, he’s going to be somewhere at the Casino Night Zone.

Robotnik: Is he? Well, then so am I.

Robotnik arrives at the Casino Night Zone, along with Snively.

Snively: Sir, is this really necessary?

Robotnik: Of course. Whoever this spy is, he’s good, which means if we’re going to stop him, it’ll take a personal touch.

Robotnik and Snively head to the main office.

Robotnik: How did you find out he’d be here, anyway?

Snively: With this, sir.

He pulls out a small device with knobs and a speaker on it.

Snively: It can tune in to specific frequencies. I had a feeling our spy might be using one, so I invented this so I could listen in.

Robotnik: Excellent idea, Snively! For you, at least.

Snively beams with pride, before looking confused.

Snively: Sir, with this, we don’t even need to capture the spy. I can catch whatever information he sends the Freedom Fighters. He’s useless.

Robotnik: Maybe. But I don’t like taking chances, Snively. Especially not when it comes to things like this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpRZgU8FFo0&list=PLmU5dJE1sU8xSuPstNu1BKavvGI3byK8d&index=8

The heroes arrive at the entrance to the Casino Night Zone.

Sonic: Man, these things have been popping up everywhere recently, and I don’t get why! I mean, it’s not like Ro-butt-nik needs money.

Sally: You know, for once, I don’t have an answer.

Rotor: All right, how are we getting in?

Sally: With these!

She pulls out several golden cards, which she gives to the others.

Sonic: “V.I.P?” How’d you get these, Sal?

Sally: It was a gift from our mutual friend.

Sonic: Oh, I gotcha. So, you think it’ll work?

Sally: Only one way to find out.

They all walk over to the entrance, guarded by Swatbots, who charge at the team.

Sonic: Chill, Swat-heads, we’re top class!

They stop as they bring out their tickets. They grab the tickets and observe them. From a camera, Robotnik and Snively are watching.

Snively: Sir, it’s them!

Robotnik: I can see that. Let them in.

Snively: What?! But why would-

Robotnik: Because, if they’re here, it means the spy is probably here too!

Snively sighs, before pressing a button on the console. The Swatbots stand back, gesturing to the audience.

Swatbot: This way, please.

Sonic: Alright! That was too easy!

They all enter the Casino.

Sally: Alright, you know what to do.

They all begin to make their way through the casino, grabbing an Emerald in the process. Eventually, they make it to the main Casino area, with Robotnik watching from his office.

Robotnik: Send in the Charge Master!

Snively: Yes, sir.

Back in the casino, Tails almost walks over to one of the tables, but Sonic stops him.

Sonic: Sorry bro. Places might say that you can win big, but the truth is, you’re just gonna be wasting cash if you come here looking for a jackpot!

Tails: Ok, Sonic.

Suddenly, one of the players bumps into Sonic, accidentally dropping his card.

Sonic: Oh, sorry, pal, here ya… go?

On the card is the word “Jump!”

Sonic: What’s that supposed to-

Suddenly, a large robotic boar charges through the wall, which Sonic jumps over as the player runs off.

Sonic: Alright, let’s do this!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DokvJePVBgs

The boar repeatedly charges into walls, causing stones to fall from the roof. Sonic manages the robot, while attacking when the spikes on its back retract. Eventually, the bot is defeated. Robotnik watches this from his office.

Robotnik: You know, Snively, there’s another benefit to only having robot’s on your staff.

Snively: And that is, sir?

Robotnik: Robot’s don’t need to breathe.

A few seconds pass with nothing happening.

Robotnik: That means activate the sleeping gas, genius!

Snively: Ah, right sir!

Snively presses a button, causing the casino to fill with sleeping gas, and one by one the Freedom Fighters conk out. Robotnik presses a button, activating an intercom.

Robotnik: S6, take care of the Freedom Fighters! The rest of you, find the spy!

The S6 drag off the heroes while the others rush out of the casino.

Snively: Sir, are you sure letting… THEM deal with the Freedom Fighters is a good idea?

Robotnik: Oh, come on, Snively. They’ve waited ages for this moment. Let them have their fun. Besides, I’ve got a bigger fish to fry…

The heroes wake up, trapped in some kind of cage in a laundromat.

Sonic: Oh man, what happened?

Scratch: What happened is you got served, hedgehog! Baha-haha!

Suddenly, the others all wake up.

Scratch: You’re all washed up, you big deal, “I’m a hero!” rodent wise guy pain in the neck!

Grounder: Yeah, Sonic! See you around! And around, and around…!

Suddenly, the cage begins to spin around, with the heroes spinning with it, the S6 laughing all the while.

Tails: Sonic, I’m getting dizzy!

Sonic rolls into a ball, spinning his body until he bursts through the cage, with the others falling out.

Sonic: You’re also getting that annoying static cling, buddy! Now then…

The two briefly look shocked, before they each get a wicked grin.

Scratch: And now that you're fluffed and dry…

Suddenly, Coconuts bursts into the room, wheeling in a strange device.

Coconuts: It’s time to turn on the Automatic Static Schmatic Machine!

Scratch: You’ll be destroyed by your own body’s electricity! Baha-haha!

Coconuts pulls a lever, causing the machine to activate. Suddenly, clothes begin to fly towards and stick on the heroes.

Sonic: Looks like these guys didn’t go to science class! I’ve got an idea!

Sonic takes the machine at super speeds, pointing it at the three.

Sonic: Smile for the camera!

The three begin to panic, before Sonic activates the machine. Sonic then rushes to the various washing machines, opening them and letting the three get swamped with clothes.

Sonic: Well, that oughta hold 'em for a while. Let’s juice!

The three exit the room, re-entering the casino.

Tails: Why would Robotnik put a laundromat in a casino?

Sonic: Your guess is as good as mine, pal. Let’s go.

The group makes their way through the casino, where eventually, they reach the main attraction. A giant pinball machine. There, they see Robotnik in the Eggmobile, outfitted with giant claws attached to the bottom. He has the player from earlier trapped in the claws.

Robotnik: Now I’ve got you! You’re not getting away from me, spy!

Sonic: Says who?

Suddenly, Sonic attacks Robotnik, causing him to drop the Spy, who runs off.

Robotnik: You!

Sonic: Well, well, look who it is! Finally decided to show up in person, huh Eggman?

Robotnik: You…! Actually, this is pretty convenient! Now I can get rid of you and the spy at the same time!

Sonic: Pssh, good luck with that, Eggman. Bring it on!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf2aBgoHGVs

Robotnik produces a small mine from the bottom of the Eggmobile, firing it down as it explodes on contact. Sonic uses the pinball machine to his advantage, allowing him to effectively wipe the floor with Robotnik. The Eggmobile crashes down, and the Robotnik inside is revealed to be a duplicate.

Sonic: Heg, figures.

Robotnik: Don’t get too excited, rodent! I’ve already neutralized the spy as a threat! This was just some insurance! This victory meant nothing, you hear me?! Nothing!

The duplicate deactivates, and the spy enters, lowering his hood to reveal an owl.

Owl: Thank you for the save, everyone.

Sally: Thank YOU for always getting us the info we need, Harvey.

Harvey: Of course, though I may not be able to do that anymore. What Robotnik said was true. My broadcast frequency has been discovered. I’ve been made… obsolete. I can’t help you anymore.

Sally: It’s alright, Harvey. Why don’t you head back to Knothole? You’ve done more than enough.

Harvey: Thank you princess.

Sonic: Before you take off, there's one thing I gotta ask. How many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop?

Harvey: That information, my dear boy, is classified!

With that, Harvey walks off back to Knothole, and the heroes press onwards.

Stone enters the main office in Metropolis, where the real Robotnik sits looking glum, with a latte that he gives to the doctor.

Stone: Don’t feel too bad, Doctor. Like you said, the spy is useless now.

Robotnik: I know that, but I hate leaving work unfinished.

Stone: Well, considering he’s working with the Freedom Fighters, he probably stays at their secret base in the great forest too. So when you get there, you’ll probably get him.

Robotnik: You’re right, Stone. For once.

Stone: Say, where’s Snively?

Robotnik: Oh, I sent him out to the Hill Tops.

Stone: Ah.

Robotnik leans back in his chair.

Robotnik: You know, Stone, this whole spy business has given me an idea. Because of them, the Freedom Fighters knew our every move, letting them defeat us. Well, what if we could do the same to them? In other words, what if we had a spy of our own?

We see the heroes make their way up the side of the mountains.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRjHM8wiTbg

Sonic: Oh, man! Just breathe in that cool mountain air!

Sally: Let’s keep moving.

The heroes make their way across the HIlltops, grabbing an emerald as they do. Eventually, they come across a strange, nest-like structure.

Sonic: What the heck is this?

Eagle: Who are you, strangers?

They turn around to see an elderly eagle with a cane standing behind them.

Eagle: Don’t try to fool me just ‘cause I’m old! I can see that none of you are eagles!

Sally: We’re the Knothole Freedom Fighters, sir. We were making our way through these mountains to stop Robotnik when-

Eagle: Robotnik! That low down snake! He really ruffles my feathers!

Tails: How do you know about Robotnik?

Cyril: The name’s Cyril, and I was once the leader of a large flock, until they were captured by Robotnik! Only a few of us were able to escape, and since then, we’ve been hiding on these mountains! But now, Robotnik is here, and it seems like we’ll all be found.

Sonic: Why don’t you try flying somewhere else?

Cyril: Ever since the incident, I’ve sworn off on flying.

Tails: How come?

Cyril: Because I couldn’t protect our home! I tried to fight back, but I couldn’t do anything! Even now, with Robotnik’s forces on the hunt, I could be out there, trying to help! But instead, I’m just hiding away like a bird-brained coward!

Sally: Listen, Cyril. Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, we can’t save everyone. But that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to help as many people as we can. Maybe you can’t fight back directly, but that doesn’t mean you can’t help at all.

Elsewhere, Snively is looking on a radar, seeing the Freedom Fighters location.

Snively: There you are, you miserable creatures. Sky Master, head to this position, and destroy anyone you see!

The sound of wings flapping is heard behind Snively.

Back at the nest, The heroes are encouraging Cyril.

Sonic: Come on, Cyril! You might be old, but that doesn’t mean you should give up on life! You’ve go to spread your wings and fly, then you’ll feel like an eagle again!

Cyril: I feel more like a chicken, but I’ll try! Here goes…

Cyril leaps off the edge of the cliff, flapping his wings and staying airborne.

Cyril: Look! I can still do it! I can fly!

Sonic: Way to go, Cyril!

Cyril: I can still-

Suddenly, Cyril begins falling.

Sonic: Keep flapping, Cyril, keep flapping!

Suddenly, a ball of energy hits where Sonic is standing, knocking him back. The heroes look up to see a mechanical bird in the air, laying eggs which hatch into mechanical chicks that attack the heroes.

Sally: Watch out!

Below, Cyril is flapping his wings, eventually landing on a branch outside a cave.

Cyril: Oh, it’s hopeless! I’m too old to fly, let alone fight Robotnik! There’s nothing I can do!

Someone: You can’t be serious, right Cyril?

He turns, seeing the flock coming out of the cave,

Cyril: Everyone! You heard that?

Eagle: Yeah, and those guys were right! You’ve still got some fight left in you, old man!

Eagle 2: Yeah, even if you can’t fight, there’s other ways you can help out!

Eagle: You’re not just gonna let Robotnik capture us, right?

Cyril: Capture you?! Never! And to think, I almost gave up! Well, jokes on Robotnik, this old man still has some spring in his step!

Above, The heroes are attempting to defeat the robot chicks.

Sonic: Tails, can you get me up there?

Tails: No way, I can’t fly that high!

Cyril: But I can!

Suddenly, Cyril flies in, landing in front of the heroes.

Sonic: Cyril, you’re alright!

Cyril: You’re darn right I am! Now come on, hop on my back and I’ll give you a ride up to that machine!

Sonic leaps on Cyril’s back, who begins to take off, soaring up to the Sky Master.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DokvJePVBgs

Cyril: Alright, Sonic! Let’s smoke this turkey!

Sonic: Couldn’t have said it better myself! Let’s do it to it!

Sonic and Cyril dodge the Sky Master’s fire balls, landing many hits on it before it explodes in the sky. Eventually, the two land back on the ground.

Cyril: Whoo-wee! I feel like a whole new bird!

Sally: Thanks for the help, Cyril.

Cyril: I should be thanking you! If you hadn’t come, I might’ve given up entirely! Though, my flock will be needing a new home…

Sonic: Say no more, pal! Just lead your family over to the Great Forest, and look out for a place called Knothole. They’ll let you and your flock stay as long as you need to.

Cyril: Excellent! I’ll go tell them now! Thank you all again!

Cyril leaves to tell his flock, and the heroes keep moving. As they move through the Hill Tops, they see badniks attempting to attack a group of animals, which Sonic saves. Suddenly, Nicole begins to vibrate.

Sally: What is it, Nicole?

Nicole: There is still an animal hiding in the nearby tree.

Sonic: Hang on, I’ll get 'em down.

Sonic runs up the tree, eventually finding a lynx hiding up there.

Sonic: Hey, pal. You better not stay here, cause if the bots catch you, you’ll never need iron in your diet again!

Larry: So what? I’m used to bad luck! I’m Larry Lynx, super jynx! I bring misfortune to everyone I come in contact with.

Sonic: That’s ridiculous! You’re coming with us, and - wait, what’s that?

Suddenly, the branch falls down, landing on the heroes. Eventually, they get if off of them.

Sonic: Ugh, I think I broke a quill…

Sally: My arms, out of commision…

Antoine: My foot aches…

Rotor: My back is killing me…

Bunnie: Guess these robot parts won’t be getting fixed soon, then…

Tails: Can someone untie this knot in my Tails?

Sonic: Alright, look guys. I know Larry might be unlucky, but we can’t just leave him for the robots.

Antoine: Can’t we?

Bunnie elbows Antoine in the gut.

Sonic: Look, how about we split up? I’ll go with Larry, and the rest of you can go on your own, alright?

Sally: Alright, we’ll give it a try. Be careful, Sonic.

The heroes separate, with Sonic and Larry making their way onwards.

Larry: Sonic, I know you’re trying to be nice, but you’d better get away from me before it’s too late.

Sonic: No way, I’d never leave someone behind! Now come on!

Meanwhile, The heroes are making their way through the hilltops, when suddenly, they are ambushed by Badniks and Swatbots. Due to their injuries, they cannot fight back and are captured. Snively comes down from the Eggmobile.

Snively: Well, I’m glad to see my ambush plan was a success! A shame I didn’t get the hedgehog, but that can come later. Swatbots, take them to the extraction point.

The Swatbots lead the heroes away.

Sonic and Larry are still walking through the Hilltop.

Sonic: What you need is some good luck to break your bad luck streak, Larry, and I bet an opportunity for that is right around the corner!

Larry: Sonic, look!

He runs over to where Larry is looking, only to see the Freedom Fighters being held captive near a wall by Swatbots. Snively is sitting in a submarine, on a communication device.

Snively: Snively to Dr. Robotnik, requesting a transport ship be sent to the Hilltops.

Sonic: Oh man, this is real bad!

Larry: This is all my fault, Sonic! I’m a jinx!

Sonic: If you are, Larry, then maybe it’s time we put some of that bad luck to work for us! Here’s the plan…

Sonic begins to whisper in Larry’s ear, before pulling back.

Sonic: How’s that sound, buddy?

Larry: Well, I guess it’s worth a shot.

Sonic: Cool, now get moving!

Larry begins to walk over to the heroes, causing Snively to see him.

Snively: Ah, another one. Swatbots, grab him.

Two Swatbots try to grab Larry from each side. However, Larry dodges, causing them to crash into each other. Another attempts to shoot at him with a laser rifle. However, it misses, and the bullet bounces between some rocks before hitting the Swatbot instead. Sonic runs out.

Sonic: Alright, Larry! Now to free my friends!

Snively: Not so fast, hedgehog!

Snively emerges from a nearby lava pool, ready to attack. Suddenly, Larry gets in the way.

Larry: I’ll distract him, Sonic! You free the others!

Sonic: Right!

Sonic runs over to help the others as Snively prepares to attack Larry.

Snively: You just made the last mistake of your life…

Snively presses a button, but nothing happens. He keeps trying to press it, with nothing happening.

Snively: What?! Oh, don’t tell me the gun’s jamming now!

As this is happening, Sonic manages to free the rest of the heroes, getting them to safety, before doing the same to Larry.

Sonic: Thanks for the help, bud! I’ll wrap it up from here!

Sonic runs over to Snively.

Sonic: What’s wrong, Scum-ly, is your toy broken?

Snively: You won’t be joking when I’m through with you, you little…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf2aBgoHGVs

Snively fires a ball of fire at Sonic, before lowering into the lava, launching two balls of fire as he does, which sets some of the land on fire as it does. Sonic dodges the attacks, landing multiple of his own. The cycle repeats until Snively is defeated, and runs away. Sonic runs back to the others.

Sonic: My plan worked, Larry! The bad luck streak is broken!

Larry: I… I guess you’re right! I don’t have to be afraid of people getting hurt because of my luck anymore! Thanks, Sonic!

Sonic: Don’t mention it! Now, if you don’t have anywhere else to go, you can head on over to the Great Forest and look for a place called Knothole. The people there’ll keep you safe.

Larry: I will! Thanks again, everyone!

Larry runs off.

Sonic: See, I told you sticking by him was a good idea! Now come on, let's keep moving!

The heroes leave the Hilltops behind.

Meanwhile, Snively has returned, battered from his encounter with the heroes. He makes his way to Robotnik’s office, with Stone standing outside the door, who stops him as he is about to enter.

Snively: What’s going on?

Stone: The doctor is in a meeting right now.

Snively: With who?

Stone: Someone who can help us get an edge over the Freedom Fighters.

In his office, Robotnik is sitting at his chair facing someone sitting in another.

Robotnik: Well, that’s the deal. You provide intel on the Freedom Fighters, and in return, I give you all the money you could dream of. Do we have a deal, miss…?

The other person is revealed to be a female hedgehog with cyan quills and a red dress,

Breezie: Breezie, Doctor. And yes, I think we do.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79y1Q-7DBLo

Meanwhile, the heroes arrive at the entrance of a cave system.

Sonic: Jeez, kinda dark, huh?

Antoine: Oui, c-c-could we not be going around the cave instead?

Sally: If there's an Emerald in there, we need to go through there.

Antoine: Oh, very well, then...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79y1Q-7DBLo

They begin to make their way through it, past the badniks and obstacles, getting another Emerald as they do. Eventually, they come across a giant pit, leading down to what looks like a giant antlion.

Sonic: Wow. Is Robotnik even trying anymore? Why would I ever go down there?

Coconuts: Cause I say so, pal!

Suddenly, Sonic is knocked into the pit by Coconuts, driving an Eggmobile.

Coconuts: You’re in trouble now, Sonic! Even if my bombs don’t get you, the Pit Master will! You can’t run forever!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DokvJePVBgs

Coconuts begins to launch bombs at Sonic, who dodges and jumps over all of them, with them hitting the Pit Master.

Coconuts: Once you’re gone, Sonic, Doctor Robotnik’s gonna give me a big promotion!

Sonic: Not with that kind of aim! Looks like the prize will go to big ugly back there!

Coconuts: No! I’m never scrubbing another toilet again!

Coconuts attempts to ram into Sonic, who dodges, causing Coconuts to crash into the Pit Master, destroying it.

Sonic: Alright, if you’re here, that means the other two won’t be far behind. See ya!

Sonic and the others run off, leaving Coconuts behind.

Coconuts: It’s like I’m living a bad comedy…

The heroes move farther into the cave, with Scratch, Grounder, and Breezie all waiting behind some rocks ahead.

Grounder: Oh, he’s coming! Places, everybody!

Scratch: Baha-haha! I knew Coconuts would blow it! All right, this is it. Don’t mess this up, or else!

Breezie: I know, I know! Just gotta keep it together…

Eventually, Sonic and the others come across the three, with Scratch and Grounder appearing to hold Breezie hostage.

Sonic: Kidnapping? Don’t you bots have any chivalry?

Scratch: No, but Grounders got a great trick up his sleeve!

Grounder: My new glue gun! It’ll paste your sneakers right to the pavement!

Scratch: Yeah, hedgehog, stick around! Baha-haha!

Grounder let’s go of Breezie to try and shoot Sonic, who moves out of the way.

Scratch: Hey, fast draw, you missed! Wait till Dr. Robotnik hears about this! Baha-haha!

Grounder: Not from you! I’ll glue your yap shut!

As they argue, Sonic runs over to Scratch, delivering a blow to his chin, before hitting Grounder on the side of his head, knocking the two out.

Sonic: You okay, miss?

Breezie: I am now, thanks to you!

Sonic: Cool! You should probably find a way outta here.

Breezie: No! What if these terrifying robots come after me again? Take me with you? Please?

Sonic turns to the others.

Sonic: Well?

Sally: Alright, we can bring her along, if she can keep out of trouble.

Sonic: Alright, come on, let's go!

Breezie: Hang on, I think I dropped something, you go ahead.

The heroes slowly begin to head off, while Breezie grabs a purse, opening it before slipping in a small disk shaped device. She closes the purse before turning to the heroes.

Breezie: Alright, let's go!

They all begin to make their way through the caves. Eventually, they reach the cave exit. Before they can leave, the cave begins to shake, before Snively comes down from the top of the cave, with two drills attached to the side of the Eggmobile.

Snively: Leaving so soon, rodent?

Sonic: You again? Alright, let’s get this over with.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf2aBgoHGVs

Snively charges forward, which Sonic dodges, before attacking Snively, before he drills back into the ceiling, causing rocks to fall from the ceiling, which the heroes dodge. Snively comes back down and attempts to charge again, but is defeated by the heroes. This causes him to get angry.

Snively: Rrgh! I won’t let you leave here alive!

He presses a button on a remote, causing the cave to start violently shaking, before driving the Eggmobile out of the cave.

Tails: What’s happening?!

Sonic: Snot-ly’s bringing the cave down! We gotta go!

They attempt to run for the exit, but rocks fall, causing it to be blocked off.

Antoine: Oh no, we are doomed!

Suddenly, a part of the cave’s wall falls over, and someone calls from the hole.

Someone: Quick, in here!

The heroes all crawl through the hole as the cave is buried in rocks. The voice is revealed to belong to a teenage goat.

Sally: Thank you for the help.

Sonic: Yeah, you really saved our butts.

Sally: I’m Sally. This is Sonic, Tails, Rotor, Bunnie, and Antoine.

Grif: Hello, I’m Grif. Now, follow me.

They all begin to follow after Grif.

Sally: Where are we going, Grif?

Grif: Lower Mobius.

He leads them to what looks like a slide made of rocks, which the heroes begin to slide down.

Sonic: Lower Mobius?

Grif: Yeah, we all escaped Robotnik’s Swatbots and built an underground city. There’s about thirty of us.

They all go down the slide.

Sonic: We’ve heard about you guys.

Eventually, they make it to a surprisingly industrial looking area. Grif walks over to a panel on the wall, imputing a code which causes a door to open, revealing a hover vehicle.

Grif: Welcome to the pipeline express.

They all board the vehicle, which Grif uses to take them all further into the cave system. As Grif drives, the machine makes strange sounds.

Sally: What was that?

Grif: Well, I think the gearbox needs a little work.

Antoine: I am thinking it needs very much of the work!

They keep flying, reaching what looks like a dead end.

Antoine: Sacre bleu! We will be crashing to pieces!

Grif: Don’t worry, Antoine.

Grif pulls out a small device which he points at the door, causing it to open, after which they fly through.

Grif: It’s to keep the Rat-bots out.

Tails: Rat-bots?

Grif: Yes, Robotnik created them as tunneling rats years ago, then abandoned them. Now, they run wild in here. The rats are all dangerous, but there’s one in particular. You see, he’s a mutant, and he’s much bigger than the others.

Both Tails and Antoine gulp in fear. Eventually, the vehicle comes to a stop.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypMACUr0alI&list=PLRAThpZuEiyC7_vgK52tZrQ459HYdhBOw&index=2

Grif: Welcome to Lower Mobius, Freedom Fighters.

Sally: Oh my gosh, it’s beautiful!

Sonic: Yeah, past cool!

The city itself is made out of beige and green rocks, surrounded by purple cave walls. At the top of the cave is a large machine, which casts light on Lower Mobius. A warthog comes near where the others are standing.

Warthog: Welcome back, Grif! Have a successful trip?

Grif: No, not really, Dirk. I’ll tell you later. But I did meet some Freedom Fighters.

Dirk salutes them.

Dirk: We’re honored!

Antoine gives his own.

Antoine: Oh, merci, merci!

They walk deeper into the entrance of the city, with Grif pointing towards the machine at the top.

Grif: This is our energy chamber. It supplies all the power for Lower Mobius.

Sonic: Man, we could sure use something like that at Knothole.

Grif: Without it, we couldn’t survive down here.

They all walk towards the city, with Grif looking disturbed as the lights flicker. Eventually, Sonic smells something.

Sonic: Woah, is the ol’ nose playing tricks, or do I smell a chili dog? Chow time!

Sonic runs towards the smell. Later, he is sitting at a table as a pig prepares some dogs.

Vender: Are you really gonna eat all these chili dogs?

Sonic: Yeah, but those are just snacks. I’ll do some serious eating later.

Vender: Alright, enjoy.

Sonic: Pinch me, I must be dreaming!

Suddenly, an alarm begins to sound, causing citizens to start running in panic.

Sonic: Yo, what’s up?

Grif: Sonic!

Grif comes running over.

Grif: Sonic, I need your help. Rat-bots are trying to penetrate the pipe system.

Sonic, Sally and Antoine all take Grif’s hover car through the caves, eventually finding the Rat-bots. The hover car suddenly stops, with Grif being unable to restart it.

Grif: We’re trapped! I can fix it, but I need some time!

Sonic: Not a prob, I can handle the rat-butts!

Grif: Sonic, watch their tails!

Sonic: Hey, rat-butts!

Sonic approaches the rat-bots, before one attempts to hit him with its tail, which he dodges. It attempts to swing again, but only knocks a pipe from the wall.

Sonic: What, is that your best? Come on, gimme your best shot!

Sally: Sonic, behind you!

Another rat-bot approaches Sonic from behind. Attempting to attack with its tail, which Sonic dodges.

Sonic: Close, but no cheese, slime wads!

The two attempt a dual attack, but Sonic jumps over it, landing behind them.

Sonic: Come on, creepos, I’m not even working up a sweat here!

The rat-bots continuously attempt to hit Sonic with their tails, which he jumps over every time.

Sonic: Now we’re cooking! Yeah!

Sonic runs over to the other wall, accidentally burning his back against a pipe.

Sonic: Yow, that’s hot!

Suddenly, he gets an idea.

Sonic: You rat-heads in the mood for a little hedgehog kebab? Come and get it!

The two swing their tails as Sonic jumps, causing them to break a pipe filled with steam, which fries their circuits, shutting them down.

Sonic: I had to blow off a little steam!

Antoine: I am thinking you’re going to be needing more steam, Sonic…

Suddenly, the mutant rat-bot comes from a tunnel.

Grif: It’s the mutant!

Sally: Grif, what about the gear shift?!

Grif: No, I’ve tried everything! It’s stuck solid!

Sonic: You guys hold on, I’ll push you outta here!

Grif: Push us? How?

Sonic pulls out a power ring from his bag.

Sonic: Grab your socks, we are gonna juice!

Grif: A power ring…

Sonic: Bailing, warp seven!

Sonic runs off, pushing the car away from the mutant and into the city.

Grif: Sonic, that… that was absolutely incredible! How does this power ring work?

Sonic: Only my Uncle Chuck knows for sure. He made the Forge for ‘em before he was roboticized.

Grif: Forge?

Sally: Yes, it makes a new one every twelve hours.

Grif: Fantastic! I’ve never seen so much condensed energy. Can I see it?

Sonic: Sure!

He tosses the ring to Grif, who catches it.

Sonic: Listen, I have some unfinished business. Catch you later!

He runs off, with Grif still observing the ring.

Grif: Fantastic…

Sonic goes back to his Chili dogs, beginning to eat one, before the power goes out. Up in the control room, Griff and Dirk are trying to get it back online.

Dirk: I doubt it’ll last for another twenty four hours, Grif.

Grif: We have to do something! The Freedom Fighters have an incredible energy source, but they’re very protective of it.

Dirk: This calls for drastic measures. Can they help us?

Grif: I don’t yet know if we can trust them, but I know what to do.

Back on the ground, Breezie is away from the others, talking with Robotnik over a communicator.

Robotnik: Is there a problem?

Breezie: Yes, there’s a problem! You said that you’d try not to hurt me, right?

Robotnik: Yes.

Breezie: Well apparently, your nephew didn’t get the memo, since his little temper tantrum nearly got me killed!

Robotnik: You’re referring to the cave in, I assume? Look, Breezie, I understand how you feel, but sometimes, Accidents happen. All we can do is move on, and try to do better. Now, did you get the tracker activated?

Breezie: Of course I did, that’s how your nephew found me in the first place.

Robotnik: Excellent. I’m sending Stone to your location now.

Breezie: Ugh, fine! But remember, I can’t spy on Sonic if I’m dead!

Robotnik disconnects, leaving Breezie to rub her head in frustration. Sonic and the others are talking with Grif.

Grif: So, you’re leaving already, huh?

Sally: Yes. Robotnik is planning something big on this island, and we have to stop it.

Grif: Are you sure? It’s getting awfully late… Why don’t you stay here for the night?

Sally: Oh, that’s kind, but-

Sonic: Come on, Sal. It’s not like Robotnik’s gonna have his plan ready in a day. We’ve got some time.

Sally: Oh, alright. It’s just for one night.

Grif: Nice. While you’re here, do you think you could show me this ring forge you mentioned earlier?

Sally: Of course.

She pulls the forge out of her bag, and uses it to create a ring.

Grif: Woah, it’s magnificent! How does it work?

Sally opens a part of the forge, showing a small rock in the device.

Sally: This rock is what gives the Forge its power. Without it, it’s just a fancy hunk of metal.

Grif: Good to know. Well, it’s getting late. We should all head to bed. I’ve got a place where you all can stay the night.

Grif leads them all to a building on the outskirts of Lower Mobius.

Grif: Sorry, most of the folks here are still a bit weary of you all. Better safe than sorry.

Everyone settles in for the night, eventually going to sleep. That night, Grif enters Antoine’s room, before taking the Forge and stealing the rock powering it. He then leaves, reactivating his hover car and driving it back to the city. Later, Antoine wakes up, seeing the sabotaged forge, before running to wake the others.

Antoine: Sonic! My princess! Something terrible has happened!

The two, along with the others, come out of their rooms.

Sally: What’s wrong, Antoine?

Antoine: The ring forge, it has been… sabotaged!

Sonic: What?!

The others check the Forge, seeing it missing it’s stone.

Sally: Who would…

Sonic: Guess.

They all head out of the hotel, seeing the hover sled gone.

Antoine: Sacre bleu!

Sally: Grif took the power stone?

Sonic: Yep, and I’m gonna get it back. Juice time!

Sonic runs back to Lower Mobius, making his way past the obstacles he faces on the way. Back at the city, Grif places the crystal in the energy chamber.

Grif: Let's hope this works…

Suddenly, a large explosion is heard as Dirk runs up.

Dirk: Grif, we’ve got a problem!

Grif: Is it the Rat-bots?

Dirk: Worse!

They run to the center of town, where there’s a large hole in the ceiling. From it descends Agent Stone in the Stone Mobile with a large trombone attached to it.

Stone: Wow, Lower Mobius! I’ve heard rumors of this place, but I didn’t think it was actually real! And look at that; the ones that got away. Oh, I can’t wait to tell the Doctor about this place!

Sonic: Yeah? Well, too bad!

Sonic runs in.

Stone: Ah, there you are, right on time!

Sonic: Wait, you knew I was here? How?

Stone: That’s classified information, Sonic. Now, why don’t we take this somewhere a little more private?

Stone flies off, with Sonic running after him. Eventually, they reach a place with water gathering in a pool below the ground.

Stone: Alright, let’s do this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf2aBgoHGVs

Stone begins by blowing into the mouth of his trombone, causing four mines to fall into the water below, which Sonic dodges. The water rises slightly, before lowering, after which the mines explode. Stone plays again, causing a larger mine to fall. After a few minutes, it explodes, sending a geyser of water that hits Stone, causing him to fall. Sonic dodges the blast, before getting some hits on Stone, before he floats back up. This repeats again, and Stone is defeated.

Stone: Ugh, this doesn’t change anything! I still know where this place is, and so will the doctor!

Stone flies away, and Sonic runs back to the city.

Grif: Thank you, Sonic.

Sonic: Forget the thanks, Grif. Where’s the power stone?

Grif: I used it to keep our energy crystal alive. Without this crystal, we couldn’t survive!

Sonic: That doesn’t give you the right to steal from us!

Grif: I’m sorry. I was desperate.

Sonic: Where is it?

Grif leads him to the stone, giving it to him.

Sonic: Look, Grif, what you did was wrong, but we’re all in this war against Robotnik together.

He breaks the stone in half, handing a piece to Grif.

Sonic: This should keep you cruising.

Grif: I… I don’t know how to thank you…

Sonic: Maybe you outta turn the lights back on.

Grif places his half of the stone in the chamber, causing the city to come back to life.

Grif: You’re the best, Sonic.

Sonic: I know.

The two shake hands, before Sonic heads back to the others.

Sonic: Hey, Rote, will this be enough to power the forge?

Rotor: It should. What happened to it?

Sonic explains what happened. As they begin to head out, Breezie catches up to Sonic to talk.

Breezie: Wait, so he stole from you, took something you might need to fight Robotnik, and you just… forgave him? Just like that?

Sonic: Course. He might have done something bad, but he felt bad about it, and he tried to make it right. That’s all I need. Now come on!

Breezie says nothing, but looks away, looking guilty.

Back in Metropolis, Stone returns to Robotnik.

Stone: Doctor, there’s a whole city of escaped prisoners living underground! I can lead you to them!

Robotnik: I know about them, Stone.

Stone: You do?

Robotnik: Of course I do! You think those idiots could build an entire city under MY island, and I wouldn’t notice!?

Stone: But if you know about them, why haven't you done anything about them?

Robotnik: Why bother? They haven’t done anything to oppose me. If they’re content living in their little hole for the rest of their lives, that’s fine by me. No point wasting resources on something that’s not even an enemy.

Stone: Ah, I see. So where are the heroes heading to now?

Robotnik checks a monitor, which has a glowing red dot on a part of the map.

Robotnik: Hmm, according to our spy, they should be heading for the Oil Ocean. And when they get there, I’ve got a hack of a surprise for them!

Later, we see Robotnik meeting with Stone and Snively, with a machine hidden under a cloak.

Robotnik: Alright, so, you all remember Pseudo Sonic, right?

Snively: Unfortunately, sir.

Robotnik: Right, it was a complete failure. But the problem was in the execution, not the idea. So I went back to the drawing board, and after some brainstorming, I came up with a new design that trades the deception element for greater combat prowess! I give you… Silver Sonic!

Robotnik takes the cloak off, revealing Silver Sonic. The reaction is… mixed.

Snively: Pardon me, sir, but don’t you think it looks rather… unimpressive?

Robotnik: Well, this is just the first version. I’ve got a second one in the pipeline being developed.

The two others nod. Robotnik presses a button, causing a capsule to appear from below

Robotnik: Now, this capsule will take Silver Sonic to the Oil Ocean, where he’ll ambush the heroes, and defeat them! Now, go!

Silver Sonic dashes into the capsule, which takes off using a rocket on the bottom.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3H1MLJ5XycU

The heroes arrive at the Oil Ocean and take in the sights.

Sonic: Oh man! How much oil does one guy need?! What’s he even using it for?!

Sally: It must be for some kind of superweapon. And if it needs this much oil to run… I don’t want to think about what it might be capable of.

Sonic: Then we just gotta wreck it before it comes online. Let’s go.

The heroes make their way through the rig, making their way past the badniks. Eventually, they come across another star post. After going through it, Sonic and Tails come back with the last emerald.

Sally: Well, that’s the last one!

Sonic: Yeah. Yeah it is.

Tails: Can’t you use the Emeralds to beat Robotnik, Sonic?

Sonic: …Maybe we should save them for when we absolutely need them, alright buddy?

Tails: Okay, Sonic.

The heroes keep going. Suddenly, they are ambushed by Silver Sonic.

Sonic: A Super Badnik, modeled after me? I don’t know whether to be flattered or insulted. Alright, let’s go.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DokvJePVBgs

Silver Sonic attempts to attack Sonic with its extending arm to strike Sonic, but he manages to dodge it. It attempts a makeshift spindash, but Sonic manages to bounce it back, without causing any damage. Suddenly, Breezie speaks up.

Breezie: Sonic, it’s quills are made of rubber, you won’t be able to hurt it while it’s curled up!

Silver Sonic, noticing this, attempts to ram into Breezie with its body. However, Sonic is able to attack it before it reaches her. It then tries to jump at Sonic while curled up, but he manages to bounce him off. He tries another claw attack, but that also fails. It keeps trying to attack, but eventually, he is knocked into the oil and sinks to the bottom.

Sonic: Thanks for the advice, Breeze. How’d you know about that, anyway.

Breezie: Because I’ve been working with Robotnik.

Sonic: What?!

Breezie: He hired me to spy on you. He’s been using this to track my location, and by extension yours.

She pulls out the disk shaped device from her purse, which she crushes.

Sally: That’s how Snively found us in the caves… that’s how Stone found Lower Mobius… that’s how Silver Sonic found us here! You’ve been leading them to us this whole time!

Sonic: But how come you decided to change sides now?

Breezie: Look, I’ll be honest. At first, I just thought you all did the hero thing to get popular, so I didn’t really feel bad for working with Robotnik. But after what you did for Grif in Lower Mobius… I saw how genuine you were. And I didn’t want that to be for nothing. Look, for the record, I’m sorry. I don’t expect you to forgive me, but I want to at least try to make it up to you. And I can do that by getting you to Robotnik.

The group pauses, before Sonic steps forward.

Sonic: Do you mean it?

Breezie: I do.

Sonic pauses, before responding.

Sonic: Let’s bring her.

Sally: Sonic, are you sure?

Sonic: Look, I know she stabbed us in the back. But so did Grif. We were willing to forgive him, why shouldn’t we be willing to forgive her?

They all pause, before nodding.

Sally: Alright, she can come. But I’m keeping an eye on her.

Breezie sighs in relief.

Breezie: Thank you. I won’t disappoint, I promise.

Sally: You’d better not. Come on.

The heroes all make their way through the rig. Eventually, they come across the entrance to the main rig itself. However, before they can enter, Robotnik emerges in a submarine.

Robotnik: Ah, well done, Breezie! You’ve been a very good spy for me. Once the heroes are defeated, you’ll receive your reward.

Breezie: I’m calling off the deal, Robotnik! I’m done working with you!

Robotnik: What?! Oh, I see how it is. You grew a conscience. Alright then. I guess I’ll just have to deal with you, too!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf2aBgoHGVs

Before Robotnik can sink back into the ocean, Sonic begins attacking it, before it fully submerges. Then, It fires a large tentacle out in an arch, which the heroes avoid. Then, a laser gun emerges, attempting to shoot at the heroes, who also dodge that. Then, the submarine emerges, and Sonic finishes it off. The duplicate pops out of the sinking sub, broken.

Robotnik: You’re too late, Sonic! My secret weapon already has the fuel it needs to take flight! All I need are the Emeralds, then I’ll be completely unstoppable! And Breezie, you’ll get yours eventually!

The duplicate deactivates.

Sonic: So, what do we do now, shut down the rig?

Sally: I don’t really see a point. It seems Robotnik already shut down the place himself.

Sonic: Alright. Breezie, you said you could get us to Robotnik. Well, where is he?

Breezie: Follow me, I’ll lead you there.

They all begin to follow Breezie.

As they do, Robotnik is watching Sonic and the others make their way to Metropolis.

Robotnik: Well, here they come. Both of you, get ready. I’m not letting him ruin everything again.

The two walk off as Robotnik continues to watch the screen, glaring at Sonic.

We see the heroes arrive at the entrance of the Metropolis.

Breezie: Alright, this is the place. I can’t help you anymore.

Sonic: You’ve done enough. Thanks, Breezie.

Breezie: You’re welcome. Good luck in there.

Breezie leaves as the heroes enter the building.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gC2E9B4NUo8

Sally: Alright, this is the home stretch everyone. Let’s go.

The heroes begin to make their way through the Metropolis. Eventually, they come across Snively, standing in front of an elevator.

Snively: Ah, so you’ve arrived. Just as Doctor Robotnik predicted.

Sonic: We can save a lot of pain if you give up now, Slime-ly.

Snively: We both know I can’t do that.

Sonic: So what, you’re gonna bust out another machine, try to destroy us again?

Suddenly, Snively begins to laugh.

Snively: Destroy you? Oh no, not this time, rodent. I’d much rather leave that privilege to your dear uncle!

Suddenly, the elevator doors open behind Snively, revealing the roboticized Chuck and Muttski, who step out.

Snively: And your pet too, of course. Honestly, I don’t even care if they stop you. I just wanted to see the look on your face when you realized you had to go through them to get to me.

Sonic: Oh, you rotten, sneaky…

Snively: You two, stop them.

Snively steps into the elevator, which leaves. Sonic looks apprehensive, until suddenly, he gets an idea. He grabs Nicole from Sally.

Sonic: Yo, Nicole, you remember that thing you were working on to help get Uncle Chuck his brain back?

Nicole: Yes, I have been working on it in the background, and it is ready to be used. If you can connect me with Charles and Muttski, I will be able to upload the AntiVirus, and purge them of Robotnik’s programming.

Sonic: Alright, Nicole. Lets do it to it!

Sonic runs around Chuck, before finding an opening, where he plugs in Nicole, avoiding his Uncle’s attempts at attacking him. He turns to Muttski, who is attempting to attack the others, when he is grabbed by Bunnie and held in the air.

Bunnie: I got him! Plug her in, Sugah-Hog!

Sonic: Thanks, Bunnie!

Sonic connects Nicole to Muttski.

Nicole: Downloading antivirus.

Instantly, the two’s demeanor’s changes, seeming to twitch slightly.

Chuck: Freedom fighters… priority one…

Sonic: It’s working! Come on, I know you’re in there, Unc! Fight the programming! Fight Robotnik!

Instantly, the two begin to twitch more sporadically, seemingly fighting against something.

Chuck: Detain, I’m going to fight… Robotnik, Freedom Fight…

Sonic: Yeah, that’s it, Unc! You can do it.

In the minds of the two, memories of their pasts begin to flood their minds.

Chuck: Freedom Fight… fight Robotnik…

Sonic: Yeah, Fight Robotnik!

Suddenly, the two stop struggling, as they get to their feets.

Chuck: It’s… it’s working! Sonny, you were right, it actually worked!

Sonic: You okay, Unc?

Chuck: I’m back, Sonic, up here at least. That’s the most important thing. The mind will come later. Good to see you, sonny.

Sonic: Good to see you too, Unc.

The two share another long overdue hug, and as they separate, Sonic is glomped by a very happy dog.

Chuck: Looks like I wasn’t the only one who missed you, sonny!

Sonic begins to pet Muttski, who is peppering him with licks.

Sonic: Aw, I missed you too, boy! Who’s a good doggy? Who's a good boy? You are, yes you are!

As this is happening, Tails approaches Chuck, who spots him.

Chuck: Ah, there’s my favorite fox! Oh, I missed you, kiddo.

Chuck brings Tails into another hug, who returns the favor.

Tails: I missed you too, Uncle Chuck…

Chuck sets him down.

Chuck: So, looks like you’re going on adventures with the others, eh?

Tails: Yep! I’m a real Freedom Fighter, now!

Chuck: You sure are! I’m so proud of you, Tails.

Sonic gets up from being glomped by Muttski.

Sonic: Let’s bail this place, Unc.

Chuck: No, you go, Sonic. Me and Muttski, we’re staying here.

Sonic: Say what?

Chuck: Robotnik won’t know that inside, we’re still us. I can act as an undercover agent from here.

Sonic: You mean like some kind of mondo spy?

Chuck: Yes. Sonic, I know this isn’t what we planned, but I can help more with Robotnik.

Sonic: Speaking of, what’s this secret weapon thing he’s been working on, anyway?

Chuck: I wish I knew. He’s been very secretive about it. I don’t think his helpers know what it is exactly. What I do know is that if it goes online with all of the emeralds, Robotnik will be able to take control of the entire world.

Sonic: That’s not gonna happen, not on our watch!

Chuck: I know that, Sonic.

Suddenly, Robotnik’s voice comes over the intercom.

Robotnik: Attention all personnel, the secret weapon will activate in ten minutes.

Chuck: Better juice, sonny. I love you, boy.

Sonic: I love you too, Unc.

The heroes take off, leaving the robot’s behind. They make their way through more of the Metropolis, before suddenly, they are interrupted by Stone, flying in from above with many capsules rotating around him.

Stone: Excuse me, this is private property. I’ll have to ask you to leave.

Sonic: Aw come on, at least let us see your big bad secret weapon first!

Stone: Sorry, that’s off limits. Now, if you won’t leave, I’ll have to force you out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DokvJePVBgs

Stone lowers down. Sonic attacks him, causing one of the capsules to open, revealing an inflatable Stone replica.

Sonic: Wait, that’s your weapon this time? Killer balloons?

Stone: They're not balloons, they’re- ah forget it.

Stone attempts to ram into them with the shield, but they dodge and attack him, causing more replica’s to emerge, which the heroes pop. Eventually, Stone flies to the center of the room, before expanding the capsules, trying to hit the heroes, but they dodge it. Eventually, Stone runs out of capsules.

Stone: Urgh, I’m not done yet!

Stone attempts to fire a laser from the front of his machine, but the heroes dodge it before defeating Stone, causing him to fall out of the machine. Sonic walks up to him.

Sonic: Alright, pal/ While we’re here, mind filling us in on what the heck this secret weapon is?

Stone: You want to find out so bad? Just wait a couple minutes!

Sonic: Pass.

Sonic punches him again.

Sonic: Come on, guys.

The heroes keep moving through the Metropolis, while Stone makes his way to another elevator. Eventually, they find what looks like a tube leading further in.

Sonic: Hang on, guys, I’ll scope things out.

Having no choice, he enters the tube, being pulled by it, eventually coming across Robotnik, sitting in a machine.

Robotnik: So, you’ve finally made it. Well guess what? You’re too late! In just a few minutes, the secret weapon will activate, and the world will finally be mine!

Sonic: I guess I’ll just have to beat you quickly then. Good thing speed is my middle name!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf2aBgoHGVs

Sonic attacks Robotnik a few times, before Robotnik fires some rotating energy balls which Sonic dodges. Robotnik then uses a button to fill the room with electricity, but Sonic uses the pipes to hide. Robotnik fires more energy balls, while also sending electrical currents through the floor, all of which Sonic dodges. After some more dodging and attacking, the machine explodes, allowing the other heroes the chance to enter the room. Robotnik hangs from the machine, with his head popped off, attached to a spring.

Sally: A duplicate!

Sonic: Then where’s the real deal?

Suddenly, from above, a large machine crashes through the ceiling, landing next to Tails, grabbing him. Suddenly, Robotnik speaks through the intercom again.

Robotnik: Surprise! Sonic, I’m sure you remember Silver Sonic from the oil ocean, right? Well, say hello to his upgraded, tough as nails, new and improved little brother, Silver Sonic Mark Two!

The robot is revealed to be a tall machine with a resemblance to Sonic.

Robotnik: Now, if you don’t want your little friend to get hurt, hand over the emeralds, now!

Sonic hesitates for a moment, before laying the emeralds down. Mark Two then lets Tails go, before rushing over and grabbing the emeralds.

Robotnik: Finally! All of the emeralds are mine! Now, I can activate my secret weapon, and rule the world!

Sonic: You keep talking about your secret weapon, and I don’t even know what it is!

Robotnik: Oh. Would you like to find out?

The machine lowers, leading to a door outside of the building. The heroes, along with Mark Two exit through it, revealing what looks like a giant launch base.

Sonic: So what, is it invisible or something?

Robotnik: Look up.

The heroes all look up, to see something begin to blot out the sun.

Tails: Is that the moon? But I didn’t hear anything about an eclipse…

Sally: That’s not a moon…

Robotnik: Behold! The greatest space station ever constructed! My ultimate weapon! THE DEATH EGG!

The heroes look at it with a mixture of awe and terror.

Robotnik: It has many unique features, such as weather manipulation, the ability to teleport any robot on and off it, and, best of all, the ability to roboticize everything on the planet in one fell swoop! However, that ability takes a lot of power, a kind of power only generated by the Chaos Emeralds!

Sonic: That’s why you’ve been searching for them this whole time… And where are you now, huh?!

Robotnik: On my Wing Fortress, which you’ll see if you turn to your left.

The heroes turn, seeing a large flying fortress, followed by many airborne robots, as Mark Two takes off.

Robotnik: Now, I’d love to stay and chat, but I’ve got a space station to power up. So long!

Sonic: Oh man, how are we gonna get up there?

Tails: I’ve got an idea!

Tails pulls out a remote, and presses a button. After a few seconds, they hear the Tornado comes flying in, landing in front of the heroes.

Sonic: Woah, I don’t remember it being able to do that!

Tails: I may have made some upgrades to it…

Sonic: Alright Tails, you rock!

Sally: Allright, let’s go shut that thing down!

Sonic: Hang on, Sal. You and the others stay here and take this place down. Me and Tails will go deal with Eggman.

Sally: Alright, if you say so. Good luck, and be careful.

Sonic: Careful? Where’s the fun in that?

Sonic jumps on top of the tornado.

Sonic: Alright Tails, lets go scramble that Death Egg!

Tails: Yeah!

The plane takes off, and the others rush back into the Metropolis. They begin to investigate the area, eventually finding the main office. Sally plugs Nicole into the main terminal.

Sally: Alright, Nicole, you know what to do.

Nicole: Of course, Sally.

All over the island, the badniks de-activate, then animals go free, and the Robians are taken elsewhere. Then, the alarms begin to sound. The heroes rush into another room, where they find the escape pods. Climbing in and inputting the destination, the pod leaves, allowing the heroes to escape as the Metropolis explodes.

Sally: Alright, now it’s up to Sonic and Tails to finish this.

The tornado flies through the skies above, avoiding Robotnik’s air defenses. Eventually, they close in on the Wing Fortress.

Tails: Woah, that flying fortress is huge!

Sonic: I can take that.

Stone: Maybe, but you can’t take the Death Egg!

Suddenly, from the Fortress, Agent Stone comes flying in on a jetpack.

Sonic: Really? We’re doing this again? You know you can’t beat us, right?

Stone: I don’t have to beat you, I just need to stall for time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DokvJePVBgs

Four mines appear under the Tornado while Stone fires some energy balls from his jet pack, which Sonic dodges, hitting him. Stone flies back as the mines detonate, which the Tornado avoids. Stone attempts to ram into Sonic, but Sonic hits him instead. After some more attacking, Stone’s jetpack begins to malfunction.

Stone: If I go down, you’re coming with me!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TvKLz-Q74o

He tosses a small bomb at the Tornado, which blows up one of its wings, causing it to begin to fall as Sonic jumps onto the Wing Fortress. Stone laughs, before his jetpack shuts down, causing him to fall as well, with a parachute deploying from the top causing him to float. Sonic turns to the Tornado.

Sonic: Tails!

Tails: I can fix it! I can fix it!

Sonic: It’s a plane! You can fly! Just leave it!

Tails: I can fix it!

The plane and Tails fall below the clouds, with Sonic watching. He turns forward, anger and determination in his eyes, and begins to make his way through the Fortress.

Sonic clears through the fortress, eventually making his way inside, where he finds Snively operating the base.

Sonic: Found you, Needlenose!

Snively: Oh, not you again!

Sonic: You and the Egghead have a lot to answer for!

Snively presses a button on the console, causing a barrier to form in front of Sonic.

Sonic: You pulled this same lame trick back on South Island!

Snively: Yes, but unlike before, this time I’ll deal with you myself!

Suddenly, many small disks with spikes on them appear from the ceiling, along with a large device.

Sonic: Hold that thought.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf2aBgoHGVs

Sonic begins to dodge the disks, while the device on top begins to charge, eventually firing a powerful laser. Sonic backs up, before the laser loses power. Sonic jumps on one of the disks and attacks the device. This repeats until the machine is destroyed, causing the barrier to fall. Snively lets out a sound that can be described as an indigent squawk of panic, before the floor beneath him opens up.

Sonic: Hey, weren't you giggling evilly a minute ago?

Sonic begins to smash the control panel for the fortress, causing it to begin to crash.

Sonic: You shoot down my buddy, I knock your whole fortress out of the sky. Now we’re almost even. Wait up, Slime-ly!

Sonic jumps down the hole, and begins to chase after Snively, who begins running to a ship piloted by Robotnik.

Snively: Let me in, let me in, he’s right behind me!

The door closes as Snively runs in, and the ship takes off before Sonic can grab on.

Sonic: Dang it, looks like I’m going down with the ship.

Suddenly, Tails flies in with a repaired Tornado.

Sonic: Tails! You’re okay!

Tails: I told you I could fix it!

Sonic jumps on the plane.

Sonic: You’re the man, little bro.

Tails: R–really? Thanks!

Sonic: Now, let's get those jerks!

Tails: Thrusters engage!

The plane begins approaching Robotnik’s ship.

Tails: Sonic, I can’t keep up! The thruster is giving out!

Sonic: Then I’ll just have to jump for it! You head back to the others!

Sonic leaps onto the ship, grabbing onto it as it enters space, with Tails flying back to the others. On board, Robotnik and Snively are talking.

Robotnik: Snively, what happened?

Snively: Well, sir, I was doing as you told me, brining the Wing Fortress close to the Death Egg as you prepared your spacecraft to board it, but-

Robotnik: But?

Snively: The hedgehog appeared and attacked me, sir.

Robotnik: And now you’re bringing him right to the Death Egg!

Snively: What? No, I left him–

Robotnik grabs Snively’s head, and forces him to look out the window, where he sees Sonic hanging on.

Snively: Oh.

Robotnik sighs.

Robotnik: Look, lets just dock. My Anti Sonic Countermeasures are already prepared!

Eventually, the ship docks, beginning to move elsewhere in the Death Egg, with Robotnik and Snively leaping out of the cockpit and running for a nearby door.

Robotnik: Go, go, go!

The door closes behind them. Sonic begins to walk through the halls of the Death Egg.

Sonic: Too bad this place is an evil space base. The view’s pretty choice.

As he walks through a door at the end of the hall, it closes behind him, with a monitor on a wall displaying Robotnik’s face.

Robotnik: Welcome to my Death Egg, Sonic, and to your doom!

Sonic: So this is what you’re using the Emeralds for, huh? What’s your A/C bill, man?

Robotnik: Joke while you can, rodent! I’ve properly prepared for you this time!

Sonic: Uh huh. Sure, Eggman.

Suddenly, Mark Two lands behind him.

Sonic: Oh yeah, forgot about you.

Mark Two tries to punch Sonic, who ducks under it, before bouncing away.

Sonic: Another robot me, Eggman? I really oughta sue you.

Robotnik: It might look like you, but it’s got twice as much armor and power!

Mark Two curls into a ball and attempts to ram into Sonic, who jumps away.

Sonic: Maybe, but it’s also a whole lot slower.

Mark Two attempts to crush Sonic with its foot, but Sonic jumps away.

Sonic: Yeah, way, way too slow.

Sonic then delivers a barrage of attacks on Mark Two, causing it to collapse and fall apart near a wall, taking it down and revealing Robotnik and Snively, who begin to run, with Sonic chasing after them.

Sonic: Guys, seriously? You’re trying to run from ME?

Robotnik: He has a point.

Snively: He does?

Suddenly, Robotnik picks Snively up by his pants.

Snively: Ahh! No! What are you-?!

Robotnik chucks Snively at Sonic, knocking him on his back, giving Robotnik enough time to jump into a machine.

Sonic: Oh, now what?!

The machine rises from the ground, with Snively running off into the Death Egg.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKY8eHTDCxY&list=PL1A538347CCEAFE66&index=10

Robotnik: Now? Now you die!

Robotnik tries to attack Sonic with the machine's arms, which Sonic dodges, before trying to crush him with its feet, which is also dodged. The robot flies into the sky, before attempting to crush Sonic under its weight, who runs behind the machine. Robotnik fires bombs from the back of the machine, which is also dodged. During this, Sonic attacks the machine's stomach multiple times. Eventually, Robotnik gets fed up.

Robotnik: No! I won’t let you beat me again! This time, I win!

He moves towards the wall, shoving the robot’s hand through the wall, before pulling out the shuttle Sonic used to get to the station and throwing it at him, causing a large explosion. Sonic lies on the ground, beaten and battered, but alive.

Robotnik: You’re beaten, rodent. While you were battling Silver Sonic, I incorporated the Emeralds into the Death Egg, and as we speak, they’re powering both the station, and the World Robiticizer. And once it’s online, not even you’ll be able to stop it. You know, you should be thanking me. Soon, everything will be perfected! No more illness, no more hunger, and best of all, no more free will! Yes, a perfect world… without you. Goodbye, Sonic.

As Robotnik is talking, Sonic begins to crawl towards some wires sticking out of the floor.

Sonic: The Emeralds are powering the Death Egg… It’s a long shot, but it just might work.

Sonic jams the wire into himself as the Death Egg Robot crushes him under it’s foot.

Robotnik: Yes! I got him! I finally got him!

As Robotnik is celebrating, the Death Egg Robot begins to shift and move.

Robotnik: Huh? No! T-that’s impossible! He can’t be-

Suddenly, the Death Egg Robot is pushed onto it’s back as Sonic emerges, with golden fur like before, but this time, his eyes, while red, maintain their normal shape.

Sonic: Alive? Sorry, doc, but I feel just super.

Robotnik: No! No! It’s not possible! A direct current like that should’ve fried you!

Sonic: Yeah, well it’s not like this is the first time I’ve used the emeralds, though I’ve never used them like this before.

Robotnik attempts to fire the Robot’s hands again, but Sonic catches one of them, crumpling it up like paper.

Robotnik: Hate you! Hate you! All of my hate! Die, die, DIE!

Robotnik fires more bombs, but Sonic dodges and deflects them with ease.

Sonic: Woah, brilliant come back. You’re a genius alright.

As this is happening, Snively is running through the Death Egg in a panic.

Snively: Escape pods, escape pods, where where where- there!

Snively finds the pods, before crawling in one and punching in the coordinates, before the pod takes off.

Meanwhile, Robotnik fires the remaining arm at Sonic, who just knocks it away like a fly.

Robotnik: Ah! Curse you!

Sonic: Alright, Eggman, let's wrap this up!

Sonic begins to fly into the Robot, first taking off the arms, then the legs, before finally punching a hole through the torso, causing the machine to shut down.

Robotnik: No! It’s not fair! I was so close!

Sonic: Sorry, Eggman, this is what happens to people who hurt my friends.

Inside the Robot, Robotnik presses a few buttons on a terminal, causing the Death Egg to begin to rumble, tilting, before beginning to fall.

Sonic: Woah, what’s going on?! What did you do?!

Robotnik: I set the Death Egg on a crash course with the planet! You should probably start running, Sonic! After all, it’s what you’re good at!

Hearing this, Sonic dashes out of the Death Egg as it begins to crash down towards Mobius.

Sonic: Whew, that was close. I better get back to the others.

Back at the Emerald Hills, The Freedom Fighters are waiting for Sonic next to a crashed pod and the Tornado.

Rotor: You think he’s alright?

Sally: All we can do is hope, Rotor.

Tails: Guys, look!

They look up to see the Death Egg crashing down.

Bunnie: Alright, he did it!

Tails: Sonic…

Tails hops in the Tornado’s cockpit, before starting it.

Sally: Where are you going?

Tails: Sonic might need me, I gotta help him!

The tornado takes off, flying towards the Death Egg. Eventually, it reaches Sonic’s location, where Tails see’s Sonic in his new form.

Tails: Sonic!

Sonic turns to Tails and flies over to him.

Tails: You’re yellow again. But how come you’re not acting crazy like before?

Sonic: I’ll tell you later, buddy. For now, let’s grab the others and head back home, alright?

Tails: Alright!

The heroes fly off, heading back for their friends.

Snively’s escape pod lands back in Robotropolis, where he runs into Stone, who already arrived back.

Stone: Welcome back. Any word from the Doctor?

Snively: No. Last I saw him, he was still fighting that miserable hedgehog.

Stone: Well, he was still on the Death Egg when it crashed, so when we find it, we’ll find him.

Snively: If there's anything left to find, you mean.

Stone: Be quiet. He’s alive, and he’s out there, somewhere. And we will find him.
