The Death Egg crashes on a floating island. After this, we see Robotnik crawl out of the Death Egg Robot, still irate. He emerges in what looks like a cave.
Robotnik: Argh, I hate that hedgehog!
As Robotnik is literally hopping mad, Cluck notices something and flies over to it, squawking to get Robotnik’s attention.
Robotnik: What is it, Cluck, can’t you see I’m in the middle of…
Robotnik stops as he sees Cluck flying over a giant emerald.
Robotnik: It's beautiful…
Robotnik walks towards it, when suddenly, he is grabbed on the back by someone. He jumps back, turning around to see a red echidna standing behind him.
Echidna: Who are you?! Why are you here?!
Robotnik falls on his back as the echidna approaches.
Robotnik: Wait, please! My name is Dr. Robotnik, and, well…
Suddenly, Robotnik has an idea.
Robotnik: I was trying to defeat a great evil!
The echidna stops, pausing.
Echidna: Great evil?
Robotnik grins, hopping to his feet.
Robotnik: Yes! You see, I’m something of a defender where I come from. I protect the innocent from those who would do them harm. That’s what I was doing before I crashed here. I was protecting a group of animals from a blue hedgehog named Sonic!
Echidna: Sonic?
Robotnik: He’s an egotistical self-indulgent little brat who constantly tries to stop me from protecting the world! I was battling him on my space station when he used the power of the Chaos Emeralds I gathered to make it crash onto your island!
Echidna: He has the Chaos Emeralds!?
Robotnik: You see, I was gathering them in order to make sure no one could wield their powers irresponsibly, but that blue menace came barging in and stole them so he could use their power to make himself even stronger! Now, it’s only a matter of time before he comes here to finish the job. Please, you have to help me stop him!
The echidna ponders these words for a moment, before extending his hand to Robotnik.
Echidna: Alright. I’ll help you defeat this menace, Robotnik.
Robotnik: Really? Excellent! Thank you for your help, Mr…?
Knuckles: You can call me Knuckles.
Robotnik grabs his hand, before starting to wince in pain before pulling his hand out.
Robotnik: Gah, that was my favorite hand!
The heroes are gathered around in the village. Sonic comes running in, holding a Chaos Emerald.
Sonic: And that’s number seven!
Sally: Good, that means we have them all. They should come in handy for when Robotnik comes back.
Suddenly, a dove appears near the heroes with a letter in its mouth.
Sonic: A message from Uncle Chuck.
Bunnie grabs the letter, opening it.
Sonic: What’s it say, Bunnie?
Bunnie: “Robotnik planning something big. Send Sonic.”
Sonic: Then I’m outta here!
Sonic runs off.
Eventually, Sonic arrives at the location the letter said to. Hidden behind some scrap metal is a hideout where Chuck and Muttski are waiting.
Sonic: Yo, what’s up, Unc?
Chuck: Sonic, I’m glad you’re here. I’ll make it brief. You know how the folks up top have been looking for Robotnik ever since the Death Egg crashed a few weeks back?
Sonic: Yeah, but- oh wait, don’t tell me…
Chuck: ‘Fraid, so, sonny; they found Robotnik. According to what I’ve heard, he and the Death Egg crash landed on some kind of floating island.
Sonic: Floating island? You mean THE floating island? I thought that place was a myth!
Chuck: So did I. Guess we were both wrong. Now Robotnik’s calling in all the bots he can to come over there for some plan he has.
Sonic: He’s probably trying to rebuild the Death Egg. Thanks for the heads up, Unc. See you later.
Chuck: Good luck, sonny.
Sonic runs back to Knothole. Later, the heroes are formulating a plan.
Sonic: Me and Tails will go ahead and scope things out. Then, I’ll use the Emeralds to fry that Death Egg!
Sally: And what if something goes wrong, Sonic?
Sonic: We’ll use these communicators, and you can come to the island to back us up. Sound good?
Sally: Alright, we'll give it a try. But let us know as soon as anything goes wrong, alright?
Sonic: You got it, Sal. Let’s go, buddy.
Sonic and Tails take off in the tornado.
Later, the plane closes in on the island.
Tails: Is that it, Sonic?
Sonic: That’s where Uncle Chuck said it was.
Tails: But how come it's not floating?
Sonic: Guess the Death Egg knocked it out of the sky. Alright, Super Sonic time!
Sonic leaps off the plane, before using the emeralds to become Super Sonic. He dashes above the water, zooming into the island, before stopping upon spotting Knuckles.
Sonic: Woah, who the heck are you?
Knuckles: I am Knuckles the Echidna, guardian of Angel Island. And I’m only going to warn you once; leave my island now, and never return.
Sonic: Or what?
Knuckles: Or I’ll show you just what I’m capable of.
Sonic: Yeah, right. Look, Knucklehead, I don’t care if you have spikes on your hands or not, you’ll never have this kind of power.
Sonic attempts to charge into Knuckles. Suddenly, Knuckles brings his fist upwards, seeming to enter a state of deep focus, before uppercutting Sonic, knocking him to the ground, and sending the Emeralds flying. Knuckles grabs the Emeralds before turning to look at Sonic.
Knuckles: Do I look like I need YOUR power?
Knuckles runs off, leaving a stunned Sonic in his wake. Eventually, Tails come flying over.
Tails: Sonic, what happened?
Sonic: Some red guy got in my way. He knocked the Super outta me, then booked it with the emeralds.
Tails: I’ll let the others know about what happened. What do we do in the meantime?
Sonic: Only thing we can do: keep moving.

The two begin to make their way through the island. Meanwhile, Robotnik is working on a new invention with Stone and Snively.
Robotnik: Now, I know that both of you are delighted to see me again.
Stone: Of course, doctor!
Snively: Oh, yes sir, absolutely GIDDY.
Robotnik: Sarcasm aside, I am glad to have you both here with me. After all, conquering the world is a lot easier when you have more pairs of hands helping you out. And the number of hands has grown a bit. You see, I’ve made a new ally on this island, and he should be arriving right about…
On cue, Knuckles bursts out of the ground beside Robotnik.
Knuckles: Robotnik, I-wait, who are they?!
Robotnik: Calm down, these are my assistants. Knuckles, this is Agent Stone, and my nephew, Snively. Gentlemen, meet Knuckles.
Snively seems apprehensive of him.
Snively: Er, charmed.
Stone moves closer towards Knuckles.
Stone: I assume you’re some kind of… porcupine?
Knuckles: Echidna.
Stone: Ah right, my apologies. Welcome to the team.
He extends his hand, which Knuckles takes. Stone’s reaction is similar to Robotnik’s, clutching his hand in pain.
Robotnik: That means he trusts you, Stone. Now, I assume you have something to report, Knuckles.
Knuckles: Ah, right. The hedgehog has arrived on the island, Robotnik. Luckily, I was able to separate him from and gather the Chaos Emeralds.
Robotnik: Really?!
Knuckles: Yes, I have them right here.
Knuckles pulls out the Emeralds.
Robotnik: Excellent work, Knuckles! Now, why don’t you hand them over to me so I can keep them safe?
Knuckles: Alright.
Knuckles hands the Emeralds over to Robotnik.
Robotnik: Good! Now, why don’t you head back to where you were? Sonic is still on the island, after all, and I doubt he’ll take you taking the Emeralds lying down.
Knuckles: Right.
Knuckles digs back into the ground, before Robotnik begins to laugh, juggling the Emeralds.
Robotnik: Yes! Finally, I have them all!
Snively: Excellent news, sir. Are you going to integrate them into the Death Egg?
Robotnik: No, it’s still too damaged. But that doesn’t mean we can’t use them for something else… Stone, why don’t you head out after Knuckles with the burn mobiles? I’ll be following close behind.
Stone: Right, Doctor.
Stone leaves in the Stone Mobile, followed by a small army of machines, with Robotnik hopping into his modified Eggmobile.
Robotnik: Snively, stay here and monitor the Death Egg’s progress.
Snively: Yes, sir.
Robotnik takes off, leaving Snivley alone. Elsewhere, Sonic and Tails eventually come across an open area, where they see Stone floating in the middle of the islands. Wordlessly, Stone presses a button, before flying off. Suddenly, multiple burn mobiles appear in the distance, which begin raining bombs down on the heroes and the rest of the forest. Tails is able to fly Sonic away from most of the damage before they both get hurt, before eventually landing back down in the burning forest.

Sonic: Man, Robotniks not kidding around this time.
Tails: Let’s keep going, Sonic.
The two proceed, before eventually running into Stone again.
Sonic: That was a pretty low blow, Agent Scumbag!
Stone: Well, I saw you were in the neighborhood, and I wanted to make a strong introduction. Have to say, I think I pulled it off.
Sonic: Yeah, now are we gonna fight or what?
Stone: Alright, if you say so.

Stone begins to shoot fire from the front and missiles from the top. Eventually, Sonic defeats Stone, causing him to fly off, before continuing onwards. However, Knuckles was watching the fight behind a tree. The two eventually make their way to a clearing, where a large ship begins to fly above them, before it begins to drop bombs on them. Sonic and Tails avoid the bomb, before Sonic grabs Tails and takes off. Eventually, they reach a bridge, before Robotnik emerges from behind a waterfall and burns it down.
Robotnik: Welcome to the Island, Sonic! I hope that you’ve enjoyed my little welcoming ceremony.
Sonic: Oh yeah, it was a blast, Eggman, and I mean that in the worst way possible. Now, lets do this.

The two begin to fight, with Robotnik shooting fireballs from the cannons and from below the machine, with the two dodging and attacking. Eventually, they defeat Robotnik, causing him to flee. They proceed forward, eventually coming across a bridge with a cliff in front of it, with Knuckles standing on top.
Knuckles: Alright, I warned you.
Knuckles presses a button, causing the bridge to collapse, and the heroes to fall down.
(Knothole)
We see the other heroes receiving Tails’ message.
Sally: Well, that’s our cue. Come on, everyone.
Bunnie: Sorry for askin’, Sally-girl, but how in the heck are we gonna reach the Island without the Tornado?
Rotor: With this!
Rotor leads them to an area of the village connected to the ocean, with some sort of device sitting in the ocean.
Rotor: I call it the Bathysphere. I made it so we wouldn’t have to use the Tornado everytime we wanted to get somewhere.
Sally: Good work, Rotor. Now, let's get going. Antoine, why don’t you stay here?
Antoine: What? Why am I to be staying here?
Sally: Someone has to guard Knothole, and who better than the royal guradsmen?
Antoine: Well, I… Very well. Have safety, my princess.
Sally: I will. Now, let's go to the Floating Island!
The heroes, minus Antoine, get in the Bathysphere, which sets sail for Angel Island.
We see Sonic and Tails falling down, eventually falling into a large body of water, to Sonic’s terror. The two make their way to a large button, opening it causes them to be pulled through it, ending up farther in the city. Below them, Knuckles is pushing a large device with Stone in it.
Knuckles: Are you sure this is a good idea?
Stone: Of course it is, now keep pushing, we don’t want to lose them.
The two continue to make their way through Hydrocity, before eventually they hear something.
Stone: Hey!
They look up, seeing Knuckles and Stone, still in the device, standing on top of a loop.
Sonic: You two are working together?! Then that means… You’re working with Robotnik!
Knuckles: Yes, I’m working with him to protect the island from you, thief!

Before they can speak more, Knuckles punches the device, which causes it to roll down a ramp, before it bounces of a spring, causing it to knock into Sonic and Tails, sending it through a wall. It then bounces off a some springs, knocking into Knuckles, before rolling into where Sonic and Tails are, before Stone activate’s it. Stone attempts to ram into Sonic and Tails, while also spinning them around, but eventually is defeated, flying off.

The ground underneath them opens up, causing them to drop deeper into the city. Behind a wall, Knuckles pulls a laver, causing the wall to begin to close in on the heroes, who escape, continuing to make their way through the city. Eventually, they have another run in with Knuckles.
Sonic: So, you’re working with Robotnik, and you’re calling me a thief. What gives?
Knuckles: Robotnik told me all about you. You’re a thief and a menace, and you must be defeated for the good of all!
Sonic: Robotnik told you this?
Knuckles: Yes, he is a hero, a defender of the innocent. I will make sure his mission is a success by defeating you.
Sonic: Listen buddy, you’ve got it totally backwards! Robotnik is the bad guy, and he lied to you so he could use you!
Knuckles: I won’t fall for your lies! Robotnik!

Suddenly, Robotnik descends from the sky in a modified eggmobile.
Robotnik: Excellent work keeping them distracted for me, Knuckles! Now, I’ll take it from here.
Robotnik knocks Sonic and Tails into a small arena, where he attempts to drop bombs on them and chop them up with a propeller. Eventually, he is defeated.
Robotnik: Ergh, I think the two of you need some fresh air!
He drops a bomb, which creates a large geyser, which catches Tails, sending him up, with Robontik flying away. Sonic jumps into the geyser after him. Knuckles comes out from a hiding spot.
Knuckles: I won’t let you get away!
Knuckles jumps into the geyser after them.
Elsewhere, the others have arrived on the island, eventually coming across several murals depicting a large green gem with writing under it.
Bunnie: Mah stars, look at that!
Rotor: It looks like a giant Chaos Emerald!
Sally: Nicole, what does that text say?
Nicole: Analyzing… The text is too damaged for me to fully make out, but I was able to make out the words “Master Emerald”.
Sally: “Master Emerald”... come on guys, lets go find the others.
The heroes keep moving.

Sonic and Tails burst out of the side of a mountain, with Knuckles following above them. The two gather their surroundings.
Tails: Ugh, where are we?
Sonic: Not sure. Come on, let's keep moving.
The two continue to make their way through this new area. Eventually, they are ambushed by Knuckles in a small drilling machine.
Knuckles: There you are! With this machine Robotnik gave me, I’ll make sure you can’t hurt anyone else!

Knuckles drills into the ceiling, causing debris to fall from the sky, with a platform emerging from the ground, which Sonic uses to attack Knuckles, eventually defeating him, causing the machine to malfunction and dig straight down, creating a hole that both Sonic and Knuckles fall into.

Tails: Sonic! I should get down there! Or… no, I should keep moving forward. I’ll be more helpful that way.
Tails moves onwards. Below, Sonic is unconscious next to Knuckles. Suddenly, Robotnik flies in.
Robotnik: Oh, look at you, Sonic! Nice and unconscious. Now I can get my machine ready.
Suddenly, Snively comes in on his communicator.
Snively: Sir, not that I’m judging you, but would it not be easier to, ah, finish the hedgehog right now?
Robotnik: Of course it’d be easier, you idiot, but I want him to know that I was the one to finish him! Now be quiet!
Snively: Of course, sir.
Robtonik flies into a hidden chamber, where he connects the eggmobile to a larger drilling machine before flying out and past Sonic.
Robotnik: Soon, Sonic. Soon…
After he’s gone, Sonic wakes up next to Knuckles.
Sonic: Ah, my head!
He gets up, before checking on Knuckles.
Sonic: Still alive, good. Well, I better get moving.
Sonic runs off. Above, Tails is also making his way through the garden, before reaching an alcove, with a large ring floating inside it.
Tails: Woah, what’s that?
He jumps in, and the ring disappears. Below Sonic is running through the garden. Eventually, he runs into Tails.
Sonic: Tails, you alright.
Tails: Yeah, and guess what?
Before he can speak further, Robotnik emerges from the ground with his drill.
Robotnik: Going down?

Suddenly, the ground underneath them gives way. Sonic grabs onto Tails, who flies upwards, and they begin to fly after Robotnik, with him attempting to ram into them with the drill. Eventually, Robotnik flies behind Tails, before delivering a sneak attack that sends them both falling.
Robotnik: Hah! That’s what you get!
He flies towards what looks like a carnival, laughing all the way. Meanwhile, the others are making their way through the Marble Gardens.
Bunnie: This place sure is something, eh Sally-girl?
Sally: Yes, it is! In fact, I… I think I’ve been here before…
Rotor: Guys!
The two run over, seeing Rotor being menaced by a large Tyrannosaurus
Bunnie: Oh mah stars!
Sally: Is that… it can’t be!
The dinosaur turns towards the two coming closer to Sally. It gets close to her, before it eventually licks her, causing her to laugh.
Sally: Chomps! Oh, it’s been so long!
Bunnie: Well I’ll be…
Bunnie attempts to get closer, but Chomps turns on her, growling. Suddenly, a voice is heard, stopping Chomps.
Knuckles: Stand down, boy.
Chomps backs off, heading towards Knuckles.
Sally: Knuckles?
Knuckles: Hey, Sally. It’s been a while, hasen’t it?
Bunnie: Sal, you know him?
Sally: Yes, we used to be friends before the war.
Knuckles: I wish I could stay and reconnect, but I’m afraid you’ve come at a bad time. You see, my island is under attack from a great evil, and I’m trying to defend it.
Sally: We know, that’s why we’re here.
Rotor: Maybe we should team up so that we can defeat him.
Knuckles: I’d like that, but… You should keep going on your own. I have another friend on the island, and he might not react to you’re presence… well. I’ll check in with him first, alright?
Sally: Alright, thanks, Knuckles. It’s good to see you again.
Knuckles: Likewise. Let's catch up after this, yeah?
Sally: I’d like that. Good luck.
The heroes and Knuckles go their separate ways, with Knuckles briefly looking back at them.
We see Robotnik floating above a carnival, talking into a communicator.
Robotnik: What do you mean you’re “behind schedule”, Snively?!
Snively: Repair work would be going much faster if our forces weren't split between the Death Egg and that frivolous amusement park of yours!
Robotnik: I told you, Carnival Night is strategically important!
Snively: Of course it is, sir. I’ll do what I can, but it’s going to be difficult.
Robotnik disconnects as Knuckles emerges from the ground.
Knuckles: Robotnik, I have great news!
Robotnik: Oh? What’s that, Knuckles?
Knuckles: A friend of mine has arrived on the island with others. I think that with their help, we can defeat the hedgehog!
Robotnik: Huh… What does this friend of yours look like?
Knuckles: Her name is Sally, she’s a princess and we used to be friends before some kind of war.
Robotnik briefly looks panicked, before changing his expression to a look of pity.
Robotnik: Knuckles, I’m afraid I have some bad news…

Elsewhere, Sonic and Tails wake up, before heading over to the entrance of a carnival.
Tails: What is this place, Sonic?
Sonic: Must be some kind of carnival. By the way, what were you going to tell me before Eggman showed up?
Tails: Oh! Well, while we were separated, I found a huge ring, and when I jumped in, I ended up in the Special Zone! Omni says hi, by the way. And after I ran through some blue balls, he gave me a Chaos Emerald! Look!
He pulls out an emerald, showing it to Sonic.
Sonic: Alright, Tails! You’re the best!
Tails: Aw, it was nothing…
Sonic: Come on, let's move!
They begin to move, eventually running into Stone, who uses a machine with a top on it to attack. They eventually defeat the machine, before moving on. After a while, they come across Knuckles, standing in front of a switch.
Knuckles: You! You’ve crossed a line, hedgehog! Invading my island is one thing, but turning my friends against me!? That is unforgivable!
Sonic: Pal, I’ve got no idea what you’re talking about.
Knuckles: I should fight you right now, but Robotnik wants you for himself, so instead…
Knuckles jumps on the switch behind him, causing the lights to go out, before running off.
Sonic: What is that guy’s problem?
The heroes begin to make their way through the dark carnival, eventually coming across Knuckles again. He jumps on another switch, sending the heroes up through a tube. Once they reach the top, they run into Robotnik again.

Robotnik: Welcome, Sonic! Have you enjoyed the carnival so far? I, for one, have been having a BALL!
He attempts to drop a ball on them, causing it to bounce around the area, before it stops. Afterwards, Robotnik tries to grab the ball, electrifying the area around it. Eventually, he is defeated and flies off. Afterwards, the two make their way to a cannon.
Sonic: Sweet, we can use this to reach another part of the island!
Tails: Sonic, are you sure this is a good idea?
Sonic: Only one way to find out.
The two enter the cannon, which fires them away.
Elsewhere, the others are making their way through the carnival, with Robotnik and Knuckles watching them from a distance.
Knuckles: I should tell them. If they know what he’s capable of…
Robotnik: I told you, their all completely under his control. The only way you’ll be able to free them is to defeat Sonic.
Knuckles: Alright, I will, for them and for my island.
Robotnik: Attaboy. Now come on, they should be heading for the Ice Caps next.
Knuckles jumps onto the Eggmobile, and it flies off towards the next Location.

We see Robotnik flying in the Eggmobile, with Knuckles hanging from the side, talking on a communicator.
Robotnik: Gone?! What do you mean “gone”?! How do you lose a Chaos Emerald?!
Snively: I don’t know what to tell you, sir! I was watching over them, when suddenly, it disappeared in a flash of light!
Robotnik: What could have- unless- Sonic! He must have done something to take the Emerald! Snively, what’s the progress on the Death Egg?
Snively: Well, now that Carnival Night is complete, progress is going much faster. It should be in the air by end of day.
Robotnik: Excellent! And what about our… friend?
Snively: Almost at a hundred percent chaos power, sir.
Robotnik: Good! If I have to activate him, not even Sonic will be able to stop him!
The two keep flying.
Robotnik: You know, Knuckles, you know so much about me, but I barely know anything about you. So, why don’t you tell me something about yourself? What’s your story?
Knuckles looks hesitant for a moment, before talking.
Knuckles: Well, I’ve been trained to be the guardian of the Master Emerald since I was young by my parents. But one day, they went on a mission off of the island, and I never saw them again after that. My father’s assistant helped complete my training, before he left to go find my parents. I’ve been alone up here ever since.
Robotnik is silent for a moment, a look of pity on his face.
Robotnik: I see. I’m… sorry. That can’t have been easy.
Knuckles: It wasn’t. But I ;earned how to deal with it. I probably would’ve been a lot worse of if it wasn’t for Zacahry.
Robotnik: Zachary?
Knuckles: That was the assistants name.
Robotnik: Oh.
Eventually, they come to a stop.
Robotnik: Alright, this is your stop. You know what to do.
Robotnik flies off, and Knuckles looks up, hearing something. He sees Sonic and Tails landing on a nearby mountain, which he begins to climb. At the top, Sonic hops onto a snowboard which he uses to slide down the mountain, with Tails flying after him. Eventually, Knuckles reaches the top of the mountain, before slipping and rolling down the mountain. Eventually, Sonic and Tails reach a cavern which they proceed through, before Knuckles lands from above, who recovers, digging through a wall. Eventually, Knuckles reaches a teleporter, which he uses to warp away. Meanwhile, Sonic and Tails run into Stone working on a machine, who jumps upon seeing them.
Sonic: Oh, sorry, are we interrupting something?
Stone: Yes, actually, now if you don’t mind…

He leaps into the machine, using rotating ice balls to try and attack the heroes. Eventually, he is defeated, flying off. The heroes keep moving, before eventually finding Robotnik in a new machine.

Robotnik: ICE to see you again, rodent! You’ve been running around for so long, so I figured you needed to CHILL!
Sonic: Ugh, the only thing more painful than your machines are your terrible jokes.
Robotnik: Oh, you’re one to talk!
Sonic: Hey, my jokes are hilarious! Now, are we gonna fight, or are you just gonna keep trying to kill me with lame ice puns?
Robotnik: Fine! It’s time for a hedgehog-cicle!
Robotnik uses the machine to fire bursts of freezing air at Sonic. Eventually, he is defeated and flies off. The two begin to follow him, digging through a tunnel full of snow.

Sonic and Tails make their way through the tunnel, eventually bursting through the other side, seeing the Death Egg sitting in the middle of a lake, with machines attached to it.
Tails: The Death Egg!
Sonic: This must be where it landed after last time. Come on, we gotta make sure it doesn’t take off!

Knuckles: I’m happy your machine is going to be ready soon, Doctor, though I am upset by all the technology around the Azure Lake.
Robotnik: Yes, it’s a real shame. But it’ll all be worth it, you’ll see.
Suddenly, Robotnik’s communicator activates.
Robotnik: Yes, Snively?
Snively: Sir, the hedgehog and his friend, they're here!
Robotnik: What?! Ugh! Is our friend ready yet?
Snively: Yes sir, chaos energy is at maximum.
Robotnik: Good, then grab the emeralds and give them to Knuckles!

Robotnik deactivates the communicator, before turning to Knuckles.
Robotnik: Alright, you heard him. Head to this point and pick up the Emeralds, then take them somewhere safe. Do not let Sonic get them.

Sonic and Tails eventually come across Stone activating a combat machine, which attempts to attack the two with its arms, which Sonic and Tails defeat. Afterwards, Knuckles throws a bomb into the building, causing it to fall. However, Sonic and Tails fly up from the hole.
Knuckles: Gah! This isn’t over, hedgehog!
Knuckles runs off. The two begin to run after him, eventually finding Snively sitting in a cannon.

Knuckles: Your words won’t work on me, hedgehog. I won’t fall under your spell like the others. Now face my ultimate–!
Suddenly, the ground begins to rumble, causing Knuckles to fall off his platform and into the lake. The Death Egg begins to rise from the water.
Sonic: It’s taking off! I gotta hurry!
Sonic flies over to the Death Egg, jumping onto a platform. Suddenly, Agent Stone rises from below in a machine.
Stone: Looks like we’ve got a bit of a pest problem. Good thing I’m ready to exterminate!
Stone attempts to fire lasers at Sonic, before eventually being defeated, retreating into the Death Egg.
Sonic: Alright, Eggman, I appreciate the appetizers, but I’m ready for the main course, so come on out!

From behind Sonic, Robotnik descends in a large machine, before attempting to attack Sonic, who dodges.
Robotnik: Hohohohoho! There’s nowhere left to run! It’s time to end this, Sonic!
Sonic: Took the words right outta my mouth!
He attempts to spin dash into the machine, but Robotnik swats him away, before attempting to charge into him. However, Sonic grabs onto one of the poles, swinging on it, before landing a hit on Robotnik. Robotnik thrusts an arm out, but Sonic dodges it and attacks it again. Sonic lands on one of the arms and attempts to run up it. However, Robotnik flicks him upwards, causing his head to get stuck in the Death Egg, before he pulls himself out, with Robotnik punching him as he comes down. Sonic attempts to jump and kick at Robotnik again, but Robotnik blocks himself. However, Sonic kicks the arm so hard it sends the arm into the glass, damaging it. Robotnik grabs one of the poles, attempting to hit Sonic with it. Sonic dodges, jumping onto the pole, before Robotnik punches him off of it. However, as he is flying, he grabs onto another pole, swinging off of it and hitting Robotnik, causing him to drop the pole. Robotnik goes under the platform, before attempting to punch Sonic from under it. Eventually, he lands a hit, sending Sonic up, before slamming him back down, with Sonic responding with a spin dash. Robotnik attempts to punch Sonic again, but Sonic attacks the arm. Robotnik charges at Sonic, punching the ground. Sonic runs away, before hanging off of the platform, before hitting Robotnik again before bouncing back. Sonic backs up, before charging forward, landing one final punch, which causes the machine to completely shut down, with the machine crashing onto the platform, which disconnects from the poles and begins to fall, taking Sonic with it, Robotnik flying back to the Death Egg, which begins to shift, floating towards a nearby mountain. As Sonic falls, before suddenly being caught by the Tornado, which is piloted by Tails.
Sonic: Thanks for the help, buddy.
Tails: Of course. Now come on, lets go meet up with the others.
The tornado flies off as the Death Egg crashes into the volcano. Eventually, the plane lands in a field of mushrooms, with the others waiting for the others.
Sonic: Oh, man, you guys are a sight for sore eyes!
Tails: You think we can head home?
Sally: Not yet, Tails. As long as the Death Egg is intact, there’s always the chance that Robotnik can get it back online. We need to make sure that it can never rise again.

The heroes begin to make their way forward, before stopping, seeing Knuckles peek his way through from a hidden wall, before pressing a button, causing the wall to close, then running off.
Sonic: Ugh, that jerk again.
Sally: You know him?
Sonic: Yeah, Robotnik duped him into fighting us, and he’s been a thorn in our side ever since.
Sally: What?! That’s terrible! We have to talk to him, tell him what’s going on.
Sonic: I tried. He’s even more stubborn than I am.
Sally: That’s because he thinks you’re the enemy. If I can talk to him, I can convince him that we’re the heroes.
Sonic: Alright, we can give it a shot. For now, let's check out what that door is about.
They hop down, opening the door.
Tails: I’ll stay here and keep watch.
Sonic: Alright, good luck, little guy.
The heroes enter the room, seeing a giant floating ring.
Sonic: Woah. Tails said he found one of these, and it led him to a Chaos Emerald. So maybe…
Sally: It might lead us to some too. Let’s go.
Sonic: Right. Ladies first!
The heroes enter the ring, ending up in an underground cavern with a large emerald in the center, with six smaller emeralds being held around it. Around the large emerald are The Chaos Emeralds.
Sonic: The Emeralds! Lets grab them and… huh?
Suddenly, the Emerald Sonic has begins to float toward the Emeralds, which also begin to float, before they begin to hover over the large emeralds, before the emeralds seemingly merge. As this is happening, Tails is hitting a rock around with a stick, before knocking it into a bush. He runs over to grab it, when he sees an odd looking creature chewing on the rock.
Tails: Hey, don’t eat that! It’s my hockey puck! You hit it with a stick, like this!
He hits a smaller rock with the stick.
Tails: Get it?
The creature throws the rock into the air, before hitting it with it’s nose. The two begin to hit the rock back and forth, laughing. Suddenly, the heroes reappear from the cave.
Sally: What was that?
Sonic: I think those big emeralds absorbed the little ones.
Sally: Well, we can worry about that later, let’s go find Tails.
They leave, and Tails comes running over.
Tails: Guys, guys, I gotta show you something!
He leads them over to the creature, who is eating some leaves.
Bunnie: Mah stars! What in the heck is that?
Sally: It's a baby terrapod! I thought these were extinct!
Sonic walks over to the terrapod, which licks him.
Sally: Aw, he’s really cute, but he can’t come with us.
Tails: How come? He’s my friend.
Sally: Because according to my research, the terrapod migration is about to start, and he has to go with his herd. Where’s your mother, little guy?
The Terrapod gets on his hind legs, making noises.
Bunnie: Good luck trying to figure that out.
Sally: Wait a second… Nicole, do you think you could-
Suddenly, the sound of many terrapods crying out sounds through the hills.
Tails: What’s that, Sonic?
Sonic: Sounds like Baby T’s family.
The heroes run towards the sound, before seeing many terrapods running north. Baby T begins to run towards one of them.
Sally: I think he found his mom!
Tails: So long, Baby T…
Sally: Oh my gosh, they're going the wrong way!
Sonic: The wrong way?
Sally: Yes, according to my research, they always migrate south! Something’s really wrong.
Sonic: I’ll head 'em off at the ol’ pass!
Sonic runs towards and in front of the terrapods, beginning to direct them.
Sonic: Hang on, hang a left, keep movin’, keep movin’.
The terrapod end up at a dead end.
Sonic: Okay, I know you’re supposed to juice, but you’re juicin’ the wrong way!
Baby T’s mother seems agitated, but Baby T manages to calm her. Eventually, the others show up, with Sally carrying Nicole.
Sally: Easy, girl, easy now. Start language translation, Nicole.
Nicole: Starting now, Sally.
Rotor: You really think they can talk?
Sally: From what I’ve seen, their very intelligent. They’re sounds have a distinct language pattern.
Sonic: They sure seem freaked. I wonder what’s scaring them.
Elsewhere, we see Snively underground with a satellite dish connected to a device, attempting to communicate with someone.
Snively: Paging Dr. Robotnik, come in, Dr. Robotnik. Sir, are you there?
Suddenly, Robotnik’s face appears on the screen.
Robotnik: Calm down, Snively, I’m right here.
Snively: Sir, where exactly are you right now?
Robotnik: On the Death Egg. I’m having some robots patch up the damage while I grab our “friend”. Where are you?
Snively: I’m in some kind of Mushroom Hill, sir.
Robotnik: I see. Well, if that’s all…
Snively: Ah, there is one more thing, sir.
Robotnik: Yes?
Snively sends some files to Robotnik.
Snively: Recently, the badniks have been reporting sightings of terrapods in the area, sir.
Robotnik: Terrapods? I thought those things were extinct!
Snively: As did I, sir, but it seems that a herd of them has managed to make their way onto this island.
Robotnik: According to records, Terrapods are some of the strongest animals on this planet. If I could get my hands on that kind of muscle… Snively, you have a new mission! I want those Terrapods! Alert Stone as soon as you can!
Snively: Yes, sir.
Robotnik disconnects, and Snively contacts Agent Stone.
Snively: The doctor has a new mission for us, Stone.
Meanwhile, the heroes are walking through the hills, before Baby T’s mother begins to make noises.
Sally: Sonic, they want to go through the jungle!
Sonic: What? But we don’t know what’s in there!
The terrapods begin to panic, running away.
Sally: Oh, this is making me crazy! What do they know that we don’t?
Sonic: I know.
Sally: What?
Sonic points up at several flying machines which begin to chase them.
Sally: Robotnik…
Sonic: Come on, juice time!
The heroes run after the terrapods into the jungle, with the machines following after them. Behind them, Agent Stone is floating in an Eggmobile, with communication open with Snively and Robotnik.
Stone: Doctor, the terrapods disappeared into the jungle with the Freedom Fighters.
Robotnik: Perfect, now I can get my terrapods and vengeance on Sonic at the same time!
Snively: Yes, sir, but we don’t know what’s in the jungle, and we’ve lost some badniks in there…
Robotnik: Then don’t lose anymore! That goes for you too, Stone!
Stone: Yes, doctor.
The heroes are making their way through the jungle with the terrapods, with Sally getting close to Baby T’s Mother.
Sally: Do you know a special way, girl?
Baby T’s mother leads the heroes down a path.
Tails: Wow, look at those plants!
He runs towards some plants that seem to be sparkling, before Baby T grabs him, pulling him back.
Tails: What’s wrong? I just wanted to look.
Sonic: Something wrong with these plants, Momma T?
Momma T pushes a rock towards the plant, causing the rock to turn to dust.
Sonic: Wow, that is one bad plant! It eats rocks!
Rotor: I gotta check this out.
Rotor throws a screwdriver onto the plant, causing the metal part to become superheated, before crumbling into dust.
Sally: That is really amazing.
Sonic: THink what we could do to Robotnik with a couple of these metal eating babies. We just gotta figure out a way to get it–
Suddenly, Sonic is grabbed by a vine, which begins to lower down towards quicksand.
Bunnie: What the heck are we gonna do?
Sally: That dead tree, come on!
They run towards a dead tree and begin to push it, but it doesn’t move.
Tails: Uh oh, this doesn’t look good, Baby T. Get your mom! She can help push the tree! Understand?
Baby T nods, before running over to Mama T, who charges into the tree, knocking it over. Sonic breaks free from the vines, and bounces off the tree onto the ground.
Sonic: Mucho thanks, Mama T. I owe you.
Meanwhile, Stone is flying over the jungle.
Stone: The cages are ready, doctor.
Robotnik: Very good, Stone. Now get this done.
Stone: Yes, doctor.
Robotnik: We only need one for right now. I want you to get the largest one you can find. The bigger, the stronger.
Stone: Of course, doctor.
Stone presses a button on a remote.
Stone: Stealth bots, activate heat seeking radar!
Meanwhile, The heroes are relaxing near a pond, when Mama T. begins to growl at the sky.
Sonic: Man, she can hear all kinds of stuff we can’t.
Sally: Yes, their senses are highly evolved.
Mama T. starts to vocalize.
Sonic: What’s she saying?
Sally: I don’t know, but something sure has upset her. Come on, try again, girl. Come on Nicole, help me out here.
Nicole: Starting translation.
Mama T. begins vocalizing again, which Nicole translate.
Nicole: “Danger.”
Rotor: Danger? What kind of danger?
Suddenly, a sound is heard through the area.
Sally: That sounds like stealth bots!
Sonic: I’ll check it out.
Sonic runs up a nearby tree, seeing a stealth bot approaching.
Sonic: Mama Ts on the money.
He runs back to the others.
Sonic: Stealthbots looking for trouble.
Suddenly, the stealth bots fire on them. Mama T. throws Sonic on her back.
Sonic: That was rad, Mama T. Okay guys, mount up. The TPs are ready to juice.
Sally and Rotor get on Mama T. while Tails rides Baby T., and they both run off. The stealthbot begins sending a broadcast signal back to Stone.
Stone: That’s it. You can run, but you can’t hide, hedgehog!
The terrapods continue to run from the stealth bots, which keep pursuit.
Sonic: Why can’t we lose these guys?
Rotor: They’re probably using heat scanners.
Suddenly, from above, Stone uses a device on the Eggmobile to create a force field around the heroes, causing Mama T. to throw Sonic off her back, knocking him out. A group of badniks drop a cage on Mama T., before Stone attaches a rope to it and begins flying away. Tails runs over to Sonic.
Tails: Sonic, Sonic, you’ve gotta save Mama T.!
Sonic begins to wake up.
Sonic: Mama T.?
Rotor: The badniks have her in that cage!
Sonic: I’ll get her in a sonic second. Hedgehog on the job!
Sonic runs around, before jumping off a log onto Mama T.’s cage.
Sonic: Hang in, Mama T.!
Below, the heroes are watching, with Tails comforting Baby T.
Tails: Don’t worry, Baby T. Sonic’s the coolest! He’ll save your mom.
A stealth bot attempts to shoot at Sonic, knocking him off the top, but he manages to cling onto the side. Bunnie extends up using her legs.
Bunnie: Are you alright?
Sonic: Yeah, can you open this thing up?
Bunnie: Course I can, no problem!
She rips the door to the cage open with her robot arm.
Sonic: Cool, now hang tight, we’ll be juicing in reverse!
Bunnie: Make it quick, sugah-hog, we’ve got company!
Sonic presses some buttons on the ropes connectors.
Sonic: Going down!
Suddenly, the rope begins to descend rapidly, stopping right before it lands on Bunnie. Suddenly, the stealth bots begin firing at where Bunnie is hiding. Bunnie runs out from under the cage as Mama T. steps out of it. Above Stone looks on, nervous.
Stone: Should I, uh, use another cage, doctor?
Robotnik: Don’t bother, there’s no way they can get past the force field. Not even Sonic can escape. Oh, I feel all tingly inside just thinking about it!
Bunnie: We’re sitting ducks down here! We’ve gotta do something!
Rotor: What, there’s no way through the force field.
Sonic: Where there’s a will, there’s a hedgehog, Rote! But I’ve gotta question. Once I bust it, how long will it stay open?
Sally: I suggest a guess, but I say no more then ten seconds.
Sonic: Okay, have everybody ready.
Robotnik: Do those idiots really think they can break through MY forcefield? Oh, this’ll be fun!
Sonic pulls a power ring out from gis bag, and uses it to curl into a ball and cut a hole through the force field, letting the others run through it. Stone watches from above.
Robotnik: Well don’t just sit there, get them you idiot!
Stone: Of course, doctor.
He flies off. The heroes stop at a river.
Sonic: Come on, Sal, we gotta keep juicin’.
Sally: No, Sonic. We don’t know the jungle. Mama T. does. We need her help. Nicole, start translating.
Nicole: “Scorch. Scorch plants. Eat metal. Machines.”
Sonic: Yes! Good call, Mama T. All we need is a big patch of those plants.
Nicole: “Across river.”
The stealthbots are flying overhead, before Sonic get their attention.
Sonic: Yo, metal breath, looking for me? Follow the leader!
Sonic runs off, before turning back/
Sonic: Yo, Agent Suckup! You couldn’t catch me if I was standing still!
Stone: Oh. I really doubt that.
Sonic: Heh, coulda fooled me!
He keeps running with both the bots and Stone flying after him.
Sonic: That’s it stealthbots. Keep coming, keep coming. Woah, Scorch City.
Robotnik: He’s in the open, get him now!
Stone: Doctor, we can’t send the bots into those trees!
Robotnik: My stealthbots can take care of a few trees. Now get that hedgehog!
Sonic runs towards the scorch plants, before suddenly running right, causing the stealthbots to fly into the scorch plants, causing them to be destroyed.
Robotnik: Stone, pull up, pull up!
Stone barely avoids the scorch plants.
Robotnik: Arrgh, we’ve lost him! And we’ve lost the terrapods!
Stone: Calm down, doctor, I’ll find him.
Robotnin: You’d better, Stone, for both our sakes.
The heroes are escorting the terrapods through the jungle.
Sonic: I was thinking, Sal. If we could get some of those scorch plants back to Knothole, we could put a serious dent in Robotnik's metal-heads!
Sally: Already done.
Sonic: No way!
Sally: Yes, done.
Sonic: Come on, there’s no way to move ‘em.
Sally: Sure there is!
Sonic: How?
Sally unwraps a small bag of seeds.
Sally: The seeds are harmless. I’m gonna plant them! Past cool, huh?
Sonic: Way past.
Sally: Really?
Sonic: Well, maybe not way past, but past.
Sally: Oh?
Sonic: Yeah, I’m way past, you’re just past.
Sally: Uh-huh. Right. We’re really lucky you thought of these seeds.
Sonic: Hey, when you’re cool, you’re cool. And I'm cool.
The heroes keep walking, before coming across a large opening, leading to a small retreat.
Nicole: “Look, home!”
Sally: She knew where she was going all along!
Sonic: Past cool! Ol’ Butt-nik will never find you here, Mama T.
While this is happening, Tails is saying goodbye to Baby T.
Tails: I’ll really miss you, Baby T.
Sally: This might help you say goodbye, Tails. Nicole, can you translate Baby T.?
Nicole: Beginning translation.
Baby T. begins to vocalize.
Nicole: “You come with us?”
Tails: I can’t, Baby T. The Freedom Fighters need me. Goodbye, Baby T. Be cool.
Nicole: “Yeah, way past cool!”
The Terrapods walk to their retreat, and the heroes make their way through the hills, eventually coming across a robot cutting down a tree.
Sonic: So Eggman’s building robo-lumberjacks now? The guy’s creative, you gotta give him that.

Sonic attacks the robot as it cuts down the tree, eventually causing the helmet to fall off, revealing Agent Stone. Who begins to fly backwards. Sonic begins to run after him, with Stone attempting to chop him down with his ax and throwing explosive coffee cups at him. Eventually, Sonic defeats him and he flies off.
The heroes continue to make their way through the hills.
Meanwhile, Snively is contacting Robotnik again.
Snively: Sir, the Freedom Fighters are getting closer!
Robotnik: Look, just call in the Flying Battery, and I’ll meet you there.
Snively: Alright, I’ll see you then, sir.
Snively drops the connection, before activating a homing beacon. Meanwhile, the heroes are still making their way through the hills, before coming across a satellite hiding in the ground.
Sonic: Oh look, I didn’t know that satellites grew here. It sure would be a shame if I broke it.
Sonic jumps into the Satellite, causing Snively to burst from the ground, before attempting to flee.
Sonic: Woah, Deja vu. Get back here, Snot-ly!

Robotnik reveals a machine that resembles Sonic, with a glowing orange eye.
Robotnik: Rise and shine, my masterpiece! You know what you have to do, so get to work!
The machine takes off. Meanwhile, the heroes are making their way through the Flying Battery, eventually coming across another giant ring, which Sonic jumps in. Suddenly, he reappears in the altar. He decides to jump on one of the Emerald, before suddenly being warped, ending up in the Special Zone, with the voice of Omni ringing through the air.
Omni: It has been quite some time since our last meeting, Sonic.
Sonic: Hey, Omni. Mind telling me what’s up with these big emeralds?
Omni: It seems that these larger emeralds have the ability to enhance the power of the emeralds. If you can complete my trials, I can give you access to the power of these Super Emeralds.
Sonic: Alright, bring it on!
Sonic then appears in a large field with blue balls. After running through all of them, Sonic re-appears where he was originally.
Sally: Well? What happened?
Sonic: Tell you later, Sal. Come on.
The heroes keep moving, eventually coming across a capsule.
Sonic: Little early to be running into one of these. Not that I’m complaining.

Sonic keeps jumping on the capsule, causing it to repeatedly attempt to attack, only to end up attacking itself, eventually causing it to break, with Agent Stone coming out of it.
Sonic: You really didn’t think this through, didn’t you, pal?
Suddenly, from above, the machine crashes through the ceiling, landing in front of the heroes, allowing Stone to escape.
Sonic: Another robot me? How original. You’ve gotta name, or do I just call you toaster head?
Mecha Sonic: Designation is Mecha Sonic. Designated purpose is “Destroy Sonic the Hedgehog”.
Sonic: Course it is. Alright, let's get this over with.

Sonic lands one more attack, causing Mecha Sonic to stop attacking.

The heroes continue to make their way through the airship, eventually coming across Snively hiding behind a barrier.

Snivley runs off, with the heroes following him. Suddenly, the ground begins to rise into the air, and Snively gets away on an eggmobile. Once the ground reaches the peak, Robotnik drops from the sky in a machine. He attempts to roast Sonic with a flamethrower on top of the machine, and attempts to hit Sonic with the machine. Eventually, the heroes defeat Robotnik, causing the machine to break. Suddenly, the Flying Battery begins to shake.
Sonic: The ship is coming down, let's juice!

The heroes run off, eventually coming across some escape pods. They all get in one, and it takes off. Eventually, the pod lands in a desert area. As they exit, they look up to see the Flying Battery crash into a mountain.
Sonic: Well, that’s one problem solved. Come on.
The heroes begin to make their way through the desert. Eventually, they come across an open clearing with Robotnik floating above in his eggmobile.
Robotnik: You! How dare you sink my Flying Battery! That thing wasn’t even fully paid off yet!
Sonic: Oh, I'm really sorry about sinking your evil battleship, Robotnik.
Robotnik: Oh, you’re not sorry yet, you obnoxious rat. But you will be!
Suddenly, from the ground, a large pyramid emerges from the ground. The door leading into it opens, and a large statue emerges with Stone’s face.
Sonic: Oh, I get it, a stone Stone. Funny.
The golem attempts to crush Sonic by jumping on him, but Sonic gets out of the way. The golem keeps trying to jump on Sonic, eventually backing him in between him and a quicksand pit. When the golem jumps again, and Sonic runs under him, before attacking it, sending it into the pit, with Stone flying out of it on a jetpack.
Sonic: Man, seems like these things are just getting lamer and lamer.
As they turn to enter the pyramid, Mecha Sonic crashes down in front of them.
Sonic: You again? Figured you'd have learned your lesson from last time.
Mecha Sonic: I was not programmed to surrender. Prepare to die.

Mecha Sonic attempts to charge into the heroes, who manage to dodge. He attempts to spin dash into them, and they dodge again. Mecha Sonic rolls close to Sonic, before grabbing him by the throat. Tails attacks Mecha Sonic, causing him to drop Sonic, who also attacks. Mecha knocks Tails away, before rolling over to him, before attempting to crush him. Sonic grabs Tails and moves him away.
Sonic: Alright, ugly, now you’re in for it! No one hurts Tails!
Sonic begins to spin dash, with Mecha doing the same. They both crash into each other, with both of them coming out of it pretty beat up.
Mecha Sonic: Another defeat. Retreating. This is not the end.
Mecha flies off.
Sonic: Hah! Yeah, you better run, creep!
The heroes enter the pyramid, making through it while dealing with some ghosts. Eventually, they come across a large statue. Suddenly, the statue begins to move, coming closer to them, eventually firing a laser from it’s forehead. Once Sonic attacks the face of the statue, causing it to open, revealing Robotnik controlling the machine. Eventually, Sonic is able to defeat the machine, causing it to sink into the ground. The Robotnik duplicate breaks, and the heroes move forward, seeing a large hole where the statue once was.
Sonic: Well, no where else to go.

Tails flies Sonic and Sally down, while Bunnie helps the others get down. Eventually, they end up in an underground cave system. The heroes begin to make their way through it, having a run in with a drilling machine as they do.
Eventually, they end up at a sort of lavafall. Suddenly, two large tentacles emerge from below, firing bullets from the tips, before a large hand emerges, trying to crush them. Eventually, the machine is defeated, causing the lava to cool.

The heroes continue to make their way through the Lava Reef, taking in their surroundings.
Sonic: Hey, is it just me, or does this place look kinda like…
Sally: The altar. Maybe we’re getting closer to where it actually is!
The heroes continue, eventually reaching a large set of stairs. Above them, Knuckles pushes a boulder towards the edge.
Knuckles: I hope Robotnik is right about this…
He punches the boulder down the stairs, causing it to roll into the heroes and send them down a large hole. Eventually, they recover in a new area, and look up to see the Death Egg above them.
Sonic: Ugh, that thing gives me the creeps.
Sally: This is it, we’re almost there!
Tails: Uh, Sonic, are it’s eyes supposed to be glowing like that?
Suddenly, the Death Egg releases a flash of light, causing the area to begin glowing red. Then, from below, Robotnik emerges in a new machine.
Robotnik: Welcome to your grave, Sonic.
Sonic: Run!
The heroes begin to run as Robotnik rains missiles down on them. As they reach another lavafall, Stone emerges in a machine similar to Robotnik.
Stone: Sorry, but this is your stop!
Stone launches another missile which sends the heroes down into a small arena, where the two appear and attempt to attack the heroes with mines, missiles, and fire. They also attempt to leap at the heroes with their machines, which allows the heroes to attack. Eventually, the two are defeated, with the Robontik in the machine being a duplicate. Stone flees as the heroes regroup.
Sonic: If that Butt-nik’s a fake, then where's the real deal?
Sally: We can worry about that later. Come on, we need to keep moving.
The heroes proceed into the Hidden Palace, eventually coming across Knuckles standing in front of a mural depicting an image of what looks like Robotnik and Sonic fighting over an emerald.
Knuckles: Take a look at this mural. Tell me, what do you see? Is the man attempting to protect the emerald from the hedgehog, or is the man a thief, and the hedgehog trying to take it back from him?
Sonic: Are you asking if whether or not Robotnik is evil? Cause I hate to tell you, dude, but I’ve already told you, twice.
Sally: Knuckles, listen to me. Robotnik is lying to you. He doesn’t care about you, he only wants to get the Master Emerald. If you keep helping him, the island is doomed! Please, help us stop him.
Knuckles seems to think for a moment, before answering.
Knuckles: As much as I’d like to, I can’t trust that the hedgehog won’t try to attack us. So, if you want my help, you have to earn it.
Sonic: Oh yeah? And how do we do it?
Knuckles: A duel, hedgehog. Just you and me. If you defeat me, I’ll help you.
Sonic: Alright, deal.
The two run to opposite sides of the arena, before charging at each other, beginning to punch and kick the other, before Sonic leaps off of Knuckles, jumping off another part of the ruins, before lunging at Knuckles, knocking him to the ground.
Sonic: I don’t wanna fight you, but you’re not giving me much choice!
Sonic attempts a flying kick, but Knuckles punches him out of it. Sonic responds by knocking Knuckles of his feet, before running up to the ceiling and spin dashing Knuckles multiple times, before eventually jumping off of him. Knuckles leaps up and tries to punch Sonic repeatedly, but fails at first, before eventually landing a punch that sends Sonic flying back. The two pause for a moment, before suddenly, the ground begins to shake.
Tails: What’s happening?!
Knuckles: The Emerald!
They all run into the other room, where they see Robotnik attempting to lift the Master Emerald out of it’s pillar.
Knuckles: Robotnik! What are you doing?!
Robotnik: Oh, you poor naive creature. It’s not your fault. A more advanced intellect wou;d have seen this move coming a mile away. Or one-point-six kilometers.
Robotnik lifts the emerald out and begins to fly away. However, the heroes give chase, and Knuckles manages to grab onto the emerald.
Knuckles: But I trusted you! You were my friend!
At this, Robotnik begins to laugh.
Robotnik: I’m sorry, that just hit me funny. Let this be my final lesson to you, you dimwitted skin tag. Friends are open, honest, and vulnerable with each other. Which means x squared times the hypotenuse of y squared divided by the absolute value of friendship equals… dookie!
Robotnik presses a button that causes two tentacles to emerge from the side of the Eggmobile and electrocute Knuckles. He then throws a bomb at the heroes, which sends them down into a large hole, eventually landing.
Robotnik: Well, I got what I came for! So long, “friend”!
Robotnik flies off with the Emerald, leaving the heroes behind.
Sonic: Well, I hate to say I told you so, but…
Sally: Sonic, now isn’t the time.
Knuckles has recovered, and is now slumped over in defeat.
Knuckles: I can’t believe this! I was supposed to be the guardian of the Master Emerald, and now it’s gone! All because I trusted someone I hadn’t met before over my oldest friends. I really am an idiot.
Sonic walks over to Knuckles.
Sonic: Look, pal, I won’t sugarcoat it. You screwed up, big time. But just because you made a mistake doesn’t make you a failure, or an idiot.
Sally: Right. Robotnik was probably the first person you met on this island, so of course you were gonna trust him. That doesn’t make you an idiot, it just makes you lonely. But you don’t have to worry about that anymore.
Sonic: Look, like I said, you made a mistake. So, help us fix it and get your Emerald back.
Knuckles is still for a moment, before nodding, getting up, then heading over to a wall, punching it, revealing a hidden passage, showing them a teleporter.
Knuckles: This will lead you to the Sky Sanctuary. You should be able to get to Robotnik from there.
Suddenly, he collapses, groaning in pain.
Knuckles: Guess that shock was stronger than I thought. I’ll be fine, go! Get the Emerald! Stop Robotnik! That’s all that matters.
Sonic and co. take a minute to look at each other.
Sonic: You guys stay here and look after the Knucklehead. Me and Tails will handle the Death Egg.
Sally: Are you sure?
Tails: Yeah, come on, Sally! I can handle it!
Sally: Alright. Good luck, you two.
The two nod, before they jump into the teleporter, leaving the others behind.

Robotnik is on the Death Egg, placing the Emerald into a large device, with Stone and Snively standing behind him as he does.
Robotnik: This robot is directly connected to the Death Egg. Therefore, by placing the Emerald into it, I can provide power to both the robot and the entire Death Egg!
He places the Emerald into the device, causing the Death Egg to rumble, before starting to rise.
Robotnik: Gentlemen, we have lift off!
Robotnik laughs while Stone checks a tablet.
Stone: Doctor, hedgehog sighting on Sky Sanctuary.
Robotnik stops laughing.
Robotnik: Of course. Deploy the Eggrobos and Mecha Sonic! Snively, take the eggmobile and get down there! Do NOT let them reach the Death Egg!
Snively: What?! But sir I–
Robotnik: Now!
Snively runs off.
Stone: Doctor, do you think they’ll be able to stop them?
Robotnik: Of course not. But they don’t need to. As long as they slow him down, that should be enough.
Down below, the two emerge on the Sanctuary, before seeing the Death Egg rise into the sky.
Tails: Sonic…
Sonic: We’ve got to hurry.
The two make their way through the sanctuary, before eventually running into Snively in the Eggmobile.
Sonic: Back off, Needlenose, we don’t have time for you.
Snively: Not a chance. I won’t let you reach the Death Egg!
Snively attempts to crush the two with a wrecking ball, but is defeated, flying off.
Sonic: Come on, we gotta keep moving.
The two keep moving, before running into Snively again.
Sonic: Anyone else getting Deja Vu, or is it just me?
Snively: Be quiet!
Snively attempts to attack the two with capsules, but is defeated, with the Eggmobile crashing into the ground.
Sonic: You really gotta learn when to quit, Snively.
Snively: This doesn’t matter, you hear me?! Even if you beat me, you’ll never destroy the Death Egg!
Sonic: We’ll see. Come on, Tails.
The two run off, leaving Snively in the dust.
Snively: He’ll let the help stay on it, but not his own flesh and blood…
The two jump on a teleporter, which sends them up, before Mecha Sonic destroys the teleporter, and lands in front of them.
Sonic: You again? Come on, when are you gonna learn when to quit? You know you can’t beat me. What are you gonna do differently this time?
Mecha Sonic: Power limiter disabled. Chaos Energy engaged. I will crush you.

Mecha attempts to charge into Sonic, who dodges, before jumping and charging forward, shooting an energy ball as he does. After Sonic attacks him more, He jumps around the arena, releasing a circle of rings around him. Sonic attacks him more, before Mecha jumps, before charging forward, before jumping into the air and charging forward, shooting another ball of energy. The two continue to battle, before Sonic ultimately defeats Mecha Sonic, leaving him deactivated on the floor. Suddenly, the ground begins to shake, and the two jump up as it and Mecha Sonic fall down. The two run up a crumbling spire, before running and flying up towards and onto the Death Egg.

Tails: Woah…
Sonic: I know, right? Now come on, we’ve got a planet to save.
Tails: Right!
The two begin to make their way through the Death Egg, eventually coming across some form of computer.
Sonic: What’s that thing?
Tails: It might be some kind of master computer controlling the Death Egg!
Sonic: Really? Then let’s take it out!
The two begin attacking the computer, which defends itself using spinning balls that release thorns upon being hit. Eventually, the machine pulls itself out of its container, calling two platforms that rotate around it. It begins firing a laser under it, while the platforms spin around it. Eventually, the heroes defeat the computer, causing the ground under it to collapse. The two jump down the pit, ending up at an elevator, which takes them to a different part of the Death Egg. Meanwhile, down below, the heroes are pacing.
Sally: We can’t just sit here and do nothing!
Bunnie: I’m not sure there’s anything we can do, Sally-girl.
Knuckles: Well, there might be a way…
Sally: What is it, Knuckles?
Knuckles: Sonic was able to activate one of the Super Emeralds. Maybe we can activate the others, give him an edge.
Rotor: Is that even gonna work?
Sally: It’s worth a shot. Let's give it a try.
They all stand on one of the Emeralds, sending them all to the Special Zone. Eventually, they all reappear, with the Emeralds all coming to life.
Rotor: Oh man, that felt weird.
Sally: But still, we did all we could. Now it’s up to Sonic.
Sonic and Tails make their way through the Death Egg, before reaching an elevator which takes them to an area closed off, with a machine in the center, Stone controlling it outside with a controller. The machine deploys several smaller machines, which travel around and attempt to attack the two, who use the elevators around the area, which causes the robots to impact the machine, damaging it. Eventually, the machine is destroyed, causing the control panel Stone is using to explode, before he runs off, with the heroes chasing after him. Eventually, he runs into the back of a machine, before it lowers down. Suddenly, the machine rises from above, towering over the two.
Robotnik: Hello, Sonic.
Sonic: Well, would you look at that. You finally built something as big as your ego, Eggman!
Robotnik: It’s over, Sonic. This machine is powered by the Master Emerald itself. You can’t defeat it!
Sonic: Maybe, but it’s the thought that counts, right?

Robotnik attempts to crush Sonic and Tails with the machine's fingers while shooting fire from the nose. The two are able to break the six fingers.
Sonic: I’ve gotta say, Eggman, I’m really disappointed in you. I mean, you’ve been building this thing up ever since Westside Island, and THIS is your big bad ultimate weapon? I’ve seen puzzle boxes harder to beat then this!
Inside the machine, Robotnik seems annoyed.
Sonic: Plus, your Death Egg? Barely a challenge! The defenses were a joke, and I could beat that weapon you had your butler use in my sleep! Were you even trying?
Robotnik gets angrier.
Sonic: Not to mention the thing’s a total rip-off. I thought you’d at least be creative enough to make your own original doomsday weapon, but I guess you’re not as smart as you think you are.
Robotnik reaches a boiling point.
Robotnik: Argh, SHUT UP!
Robotnik attempts to crush Sonic with the hands of the machine, which Sonic and Tails both dodge, before running off, with the machine following after them, shooting missiles and breathing fire. Inside, Stone seems to be panicking.
Stone: Doctor, you’re destroying everything!
Robotnik: Shut up, Stone!
The mouth of the machine opens, revealing the Master Emerald in glass, which fires a laser before closing.
Tails: Sonic, how are we gonna stop that thing?! It’s invincible!
Sonic: Maybe, but I’ll bet that glass isn’t!
The two then begin to attack the glass every time it’s revealed. Eventually, the glass shatters, causing the machine to collapse, and the Death Egg to begin to shake violently. The Eggmobile rises, with Robotnik and Stone inside, carrying the Emerald. The eggmobile dashes away, with the heroes dashing after it, attacking. Eventually, the Eggmobile breaks down, dropping the Emerald as it falls into space as the floor collapses. Sonic and Tails run to the right, eventually coming across the escape pods. Tails activates one of the pods, while Sonic seems distracted.
Tails: Sonic, let's go, we gotta get outta here!
Sonic: …See you on the ground, buddy.
Sonic pushes Tails into the escape pod, giving him a thumbs up.
Tails: Sonic, no!
The pod takes off, as Sonic is eventually overcome by the explosions. Some time after, he awakens, surrounded by space. He turns to see the Death Egg exploding.
Sonic: “Heh, how about that? Eggman did more to destroy the Death Egg then I did. Speaking of, I wonder what happened to him?”

Suddenly, Sonic is knocked off course by a blue ship flying by.
Sonic: Speak of the devil. How am I gonna catch up to him?
Suddenly, seven balls of light surround Sonic, before being absorbed by him, causing him to transform. His form is similar to Super Sonic, but instead of being pure yellow, his form is a brilliant white, and his eyes are green instead of red.
Sonic: Woah, this feels incredible! Alright, Eggman, ready or not, here I come!
Sonic begins to dash after the machine. Inside, Robotnik and Stone are sitting.
Robotnik: Alright, I know this looks bad, what with the Death Egg being destroyed…
Stone: Uh, doctor?
Robotnik: But we still have the Master Emerald, and that’s what matters!
Stone: Doctor?
Robotnik: With its power, I’ll be able to create a new weapon, more powerful than the Death Egg, and Sonic won’t be able to stop me!
Stone: Doctor!
Robotnik: What!?
Stone: Look.
Robotnik turns to a monitor, seeing Sonic flying towards him at high speed on his new form.
Robotnik: Oh no…
Stone: His speed… I’ve never seen anything like it!
Robotnik: Then fire the missiles! Fire the turrets! Fire EVERYTHING! JUST DON’T LET HIM TAKE MY EMERALD!
As Sonic is flying through space, he is attacked by missiles, dodging them and the meteors along the way. Eventually, he reaches the ship, where he is attacked by both missiles and the ships turrets. Eventually, he manages to lure some of the missiles to the ships head, causing it to explode. However, another machine emerges from the ship and begins to fly through space, carrying the emerald, with Sonic in pursuit.
Robotnik: No! STAY AWAY FROM ME!
Robotnik sends out several small bombs, which Sonic dodges, before he begins to ram into the robot multiple times, before he charges up and rams into the robot as hard as he can, piercing a hole through it and grabbing the emerald, before the robot begins to fall back to Mobius with a furious Robotnik.
Robotnik: I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!
Sonic turns and heads back to Mobius with the Emerald, not noticing the robot beginning to glow with power. Sonic carries the gem back down, with both being caught by the Tornado.
Tails: Sonic, you did it!
Sonic: Yeah! Now let's drop this thing off and head home!
Tails: Right!
They fly over the island, dropping the Emerald off, before turning around and heading back to Knothole. Down below, the Emerald lands near Knuckles and the others.
Knuckles: Alright, they did it!
Sally: You sure you can’t come with us, Knuckles?
Knuckles: I’d like to, but someone has to look after this thing. That doesn’t mean you can come visit, though.
Sally: Alright. Thanks for everything, Knuckles.
Knuckles: Thank you. Come back soon!
The heroes take off in the Bathysphere, leaving Knuckles behind. Elsewhere, we see the robot lying in the ocean, with Stone floating in an intertube.
Stone: Well, it could have been worse, right doctor? Doctor?
Stone turns, but gets no reply, Robotnik nowhere in sight.
Elsewhere, on what looks like a satellite, Robotnik appears on a flash of light.
Robotnik: Eh? Where am I?
Unknown: Welcome, my friend. You are on my ship.
Robotnik: What?! Who said that?!
Suddenly, on a monitor, a face appears that looks similar to Robotnik, but not quite, appearing to be made of black steel.
Robotnik: Who are you, and why do you look like me?!
Metal Robotnik: I am you! Or rather, A you. You may call me Metal Robotnik!
Robotnik: What are you talking about?
Metal Robotnik sighs.
Metal Robotnik: And here I thought Snively was a dolt! Haven’t you figured it out yet? This is a parallel universe to yours!
Robotnik: Another universe? So the multiverse is real! Hah, I knew it! Ahem, so, what’s your story?
Metal Robotnik: Our history’s were very similar up to a certain point. Except I succeeded on the Death Egg where you failed. Afterwards, I was able to capture the Freedom Fighters and roboticize them! However, I don’t know how, but they were able to resist my commands and went on a rampage! During my final battle with the hated hedgehog, I was left with little choice. I had to undergo robotization if I were to have any hope of overpowering Sonic. I merely delayed the inevitable with one chance remaining. I up-loaded my core memory to this station that I had designed and built with other intentions in mind. Unfortunately, the station was far from complete. I may have saved myself from that fool Sonic, but at an unforeseen cost. However, I wasn’t deterred. I built this satellite with a special device that could transport matter. I was planning to use it to bring one of my robots up here, but when I attempted to use it, it brought you here instead.
Robotnik: I see. Then let me help build you a new body, and you can get revenge on your Freedom Fighters!
Metal Robotnik: What’s the point? Even if I were to get a new body, there’s nothing I could build that the Freedom Fighters couldn’t destroy with their new bodies! It’s hopeless! All is lost!
Robotnik: Lost?! What are you talking about?! This device gives you the ability to travel to whole other universes, and you’re not even going to take advantage of that!? Who cares about that Mobius, there are a potentially infinite number of Mobius’ out there for you to conquer! And once you have enough robots, it won’t matter how strong the Freedom Fighters are! Now, where do you keep your material? It’s time to build you a body!
Metal Robotnik: You… You’re right. You’re right! What have I been doing, just staying up here!? I’m Julian Robotnik, darn it, and I don’t give up!
Robotnik: Oho, that’s more like it! Now come on, let's get to work!
Robotnik begins to build Metal Robotnik a new body, using pictures of his old body as a reference. Eventually, the body is complete, and Metal Robotnik transfers his consciousness into it.
Robotnik: So, what do you think?
Metal Robotnik: It’s perfect! Like I never left! Thank you for your help, Doctor Ivo Julian Robotnik!
Robotnik: It was my pleasure, Doctor Julian Robotnik from the house of Ivo! Now, I don’t suppose you could send me back home?
Metal Robotnik: Of course!
They both walk towards the machine.
Metal Robotnik: Lets see, if I reverse the polarity on the framistat and tweak the tolerances a tad on this doohickey…
Suddenly, the machine springs to life.
Metal Robotnik: Voila! Good luck, and may the forces of evil be with you!
Robotnik: Likewise, my dear other self!
Robotnik leaps into the rift, leaving Metal Robotnik alone.
Metal Robotnik: Good to know that the Rift Engine works. Hmm, I wonder if I can make it a bit more… portable.
Metal Robotnik turns and begins designing blueprints.
Back on Mobius Prime, we see that Stone and Snively are talking to each other.
Stone: Well, where could he have gone?
Snively: I don’t know, but we should send out a search party anyway. It’s not like he’s going to fall from the sky.
Suddenly, Robotnik materializes in the air, before falling onto the ground.
Robotnik: Could’ve been a little more precise…
Stone: Doctor, you’re back! What happened? You just disappeared!
Robotnik: I had a run in with an old friend. Now get back to work! And Stone, Get me a latte! Gaia knows I need one after the day I’ve had.
Stone: Right away, Doctor!
Stone and Snively run off, leaving Robotnik alone.
Robotnik: Hmm… Metal… catchy name!
