Lean on Me

Summary:

Healing from a toxic relationship is hard, but it's even harder when you trusted that person with your *biggest* secret. Chris thinks he'll never recover in more ways than one, but a certain someone might just change that.

Or,

In which the one thing Chris has been missing has been right in front of him the whole time.

Notes:

Please note that I am in no way trying to glorify toxic relationships. I am simply writing this fic based off of my own personal experiences. As always, age regression is a healthy, nonsexual coping mechanism. If you don't like it, don't read it<3

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Chris had never planned for it to end this way. Of course he knew that relationships did end; he just wasn't planning on his ending with him standing in front of his girlfriend's apartment building in the rain, stuffed bear tucked into the pocket of his hoodie and his duffel bag clutched to his chest. He knew that he had more items than this, but he hadn't exactly gotten the chance to retrieve them before his now-ex had kicked him out.

"Chris, I swear to god. Get the fuck out." she had hissed, shoving his frame out the door and tossing a bag with his essentials out behind him.

"But! We can fix this!" the brunette had protested. "It won't happen again, I'm sorry!"

He wasn't given any more opportunities to speak after that. The door had been slammed in his face, the sign of a two year relationship coming to a close, all because he'd gotten a text from Madison. His best friend. This had been just one of the many instances like it, but the text was the straw that broke the camel's back. But now, as he stood shivering in the cold January rain, Chris didn't have time to think about his ex, or why she had randomly decided to blow up at him over a text message from his best friend. It was already just past four in the afternoon, and before long, it would be dark.

Being a content creator, Chris definitely had the money to get a hotel room for the night, but that was the last thing he wanted to do. The boy wasn't sure he'd be able to handle being alone for the night with nothing but his thoughts to keep him company. His mind was already fuzzy, desperately trying to keep itself from falling into a vulnerable state while he was alone on the streets of Los Angeles. He mentally skimmed through a list of places he could go, checking them off one by one. Having lived in his ex's apartment for the last year and half while Matt and Nick had gotten their own places was leaving him slightly...stuck.

He could go to Nick's apartment, but Nick had his own life now. Space Camp was doing better than ever, and for the last six months, Nick had been dating a new guy. It was a secret he would take to the grave, but Chris had been extremely jealous of Nick's relationship. The way his boyfriend would bring him coffee in bed when he spent the night, or how he had been giddy with excitement to move in with Nick. Chris knew that both men would welcome him with open arms if he needed, but he felt that he would be too much like an intruder on their healthy, mature realtionship in their happy home.

Madison would have been another option, had she been home, rather than on tour. The same thing was the case with Skies. Had he been closer with Jake and Johnnie, or Sam and Colby, he would've asked them, but he wasn't. Which left him with one option until he could get back on his feet. And with that, Chris pulled out his phone, tapping out a quick message and praying his brother wasn't in his headspace at the current moment.

To Matt: hey...we broke up. would it be okay if i stayed with you guys for a while until i figure some stuff out? love you<3
