Work Text:

"I can not believe you!" Loki shouted, and he slammed his chamber room open.

Thor did not dare to say anything -- not when Loki was like this.  He silently shut the door behind himself as he followed Loki into the room.

Loki continued, "Did you not remember that I would feel it when you broke your wrist?"  He stormed over to a table in his room and picked up a book, and flipped through the pages until he landed on a specific one.  Loki laughed to himself, so bitterly that it left a sour taste in Thor's mouth, "Or -- oh, I know -- how about the time you were gutted alive, hm?  Does that ring any bells?  Or are you perhaps so dense as to not feel them quake?"

Thor took a small step towards Loki, "Brother, I-"

"No," Loki said, and shut Thor down.  "You are a boorish fool, and quite possibly the biggest pain in my life."

Thor looked at Loki, and Loki hated how his resolve started to break at the kicked puppy look on Thor's face.  He huffed, "Just get over here, before I decide it is worth the pain to see you suffer with a broken wrist."

Thor did as he was told, and shuffled over to where Loki stood.  He watched Loki's eyes skim over the page, and how they traced the words in their search for an answer beyond Thor's capabilities.

For a brief moment, Thor wished that soulmates didn't exist -- if only so that Loki would not feel Thor's pains when he wanted a simple walk in their mother's garden, or to study in his favorite nook in the library.  As soon as the thought was there, however, it was gone.  Thor would never truly wish away his bond with his brother, he just hated how he often made Loki upset and pained.  Thor never meant to, but he was often more foolhardy than he meant to be, and Loki frequently ended up stomping his way over to him after he had been especially reckless.

This time, however, was different.  Thor had known he would likely hurt himself today, and he would do it again countless times, should the occaision ever arise again.

Thor's only regret was that the pain would not be his alone to bear.

Loki grabbed onto Thor's wrist with his icy hands, and startled Thor out of his thoughts.  "Do try to pay attention," Loki said, "Perhaps if you did more, we wouldn't be in situations like these."

Loki murmured a healing spell under his breath, and gentle, warm tingles spread throughout Thor's broken wrist.  Loki closed his eyes in his concentration, and made sure to stand there for a few extra moments just to make Thor stew under Loki's anger.  If it had been a one off thing, or happened once a year, it would be different.  More often than not, however, Thor injured himself enough for Loki to be in considerable pain at least once a month -- sometimes twice.

When Loki let go, he turned away from Thor.  He went to put away his book that he did not have to reference to do the spell -- a testament to how frequently Thor hurt himself -- but that he had simply got out to inconvenience Thor.  "What happened this time?  Did someone say something that did not settle with you?"

Thor flinched, but softly nodded his head.

Loki whipped his head around and glared at Thor, "Truly, brother?”  Loki laughed incredulously, “You are so selfish and idiotic so as to-"

"They had insulted you," Thor interrupted him.

Loki blinked, and looked up at Thor.  “What?"

"They said you were weak and unfit to be a part of the royal family," Thor said.  "I told them to watch their tongue, and when they didn't..."

Loki swallowed, and let his eyes drift to the side.  He nodded in understanding, "So you were defending my honor."

"I was trying to," Thor said quietly.  “Although I fear I have only upset you further.”

There was a beat of silence between them, until Loki walked over to Thor.  He stopped in front of him, and carefully brought his arms to wrap around his neck.

Loki studied Thor.  In every way, Thor Odinson was a god.

Loki studied the deep undercurrents of Thor’s ocean blue eyes, and how they seemed to glimmer the longer Loki stared at him.  Thor’s forehead had crease lines from his long past of battles and attempts at glory, where he'd often furrow his brows in thought or intense anger, and Thor's hair framed his face as though he were a painting -- encapsulating the true beauty that lie there in the way only a distinguished, honored artist ever could.

Then there were Thor's lips -- Thor's stupid, perfect lips -- who sat there for him patiently, almost beackoning Loki to come just a bit closer.

And, when in the presence of such a god, who was Loki to say no?

"You idiot," Loki muttered.

When Loki started to close the distance between them, Thor had already started moving closer.
