Satoru Gojo was hopelessly in love with Suguru Geto. It was a fact written into the universe. He loved everything about him from the way he smiled to the way he raked his hand through his hair when he was stressed.
Satoru laid his head on his hand as he watched Suguru wander around the shared kitchen. It was Suguru’s turn to cook today, which was always Satoru’s favourite day. Sure because Suguru was the best cook out of all three of them but that wasn’t the reason. He just loved to watch Suguru move around the kitchen in deep focus. His hair was always tied half back, making Satoru’s heart go nuts.
“You two make me sick” Shoko sighed, coming to sit down next to him on the sofa.
“How so?” Satoru questioned, his head snapping towards her.
“You know exactly how so” Shoko groaned as she realised Satoru’s eyes were now back on the man in the kitchen, “You two look at each other like love sick puppies, it makes me want to vomit”
“Suguru doesn’t look at me like that” He shot back defensively.
Suguru would never look at him like that. He just saw Satoru as a friend, his best friend. The thought of anything else is outlandish to even fathom. If he had looked at him like that surely Satoru would have noticed?
“Dinner is ready” Suguru called over at them before catching Satoru’s eyes, “You okay”
Satoru looked distantly at him for a second before smiling, “Great can’t wait to eat your poisonous food”
“Poisonous?” Suguru laughed as Satoru came and draped himself over his back, “You wound me Satoru”
The three grabbed their bowls making their way over to the table. Shoko struck up a conversation with Suguru as they ate. Though every now and again Suguru would catch Satoru’s eye giving him a look that made his face warm. He wasn’t entirely sure why they were doing it but he would take any excuse to look into Suguru’s eyes.
Shoko eventually stopped mid-sentence glaring between the two boys before groaning, “You two eye fucking each other is putting me off my food”
Eye fucking? They weren’t eye fucking. They were doing something that Satoru couldn’t quiet put a word to but eye fucking was definitely not one of them. Satoru glanced over at Suguru who had an unreadable expression on his face. It seemed to be confusion mixed with something else he couldn’t quiet.
“Please I wouldn’t fuck Satoru even if he was the last man on earth” He laughed brightly smiling over at Satoru.
Pain. That’s all Satoru felt. His heart started to break in his chest at that one sentence. Sure he knew Suguru most likely didn’t like him the way he adored Suguru. But to hear him so adamant against it. It hurt in a way that Satoru had no idea pain could be.
Shoko glanced over at him catching his eye with hers in response he just plastered a smile back on his face. Nervously he pushed his sunglasses further onto his face before saying the biggest lie, “Right back at ya”
He laughed a fake humourless laugh before looking back down at his food. It no longer looked appetising in fact it looked just as poisonous as he had joked it was.
A few minutes passed as he continued to stare down at the bowl. Shoko and Suguru had started another conversation back up though he didn’t miss the way Shoko kept giving him slight glances every now and again.
“I’m going to bed” Satoru pushed himself up from his spot at the table, “Goodnight”
“Wait-” Shoko started but Suguru had already grabbed Satoru’s wrist moving to hold his hand in place.
“I’ll join you in a bit ok?” Suguru smiled up at him.
Satoru almost broke right there. Why would Suguru ask him that after what he had just said? It wasn’t fair the way he played with his heart.
“Not tonight” Satoru broke his hand away before quickly turning away. He walked off down the hallway towards the dorms not daring to look back. He needed to be alone right now and having Suguru only mere inches away would not help.
-
Suguru watched as Satoru hurried down the hallway. ‘Not tonight?’ That was weird. Something was definitely off with him. He wasn’t as blind as Shoko made him out to be. Of course he had noticed how weird Satoru had been for the past ten minutes. He had no idea why he changed. But not wanting Suguru to come to his room had confirmed it for him.
They hadn’t not shared a bed in months. Suguru barely remembers what his bed feels like as he is always sleeping in Satoru’s.
Suguru watched as Satoru went out of view of him before turning to Shoko.
“What?” He asked dumbfounded.
“You are a real dumbass!” She started moving up from the table grabbing Satoru’s bowl as well as hers.
“What?” He repeated.
“Use your brain” She stated simply but when he didn’t reply she continued, “He is hopelessly in love with you idiot”
“What has that got to do with anything?” Suguru shot back. Satoru wasn’t in love with him. Was he? Sure he was hopelessly in love with Satoru but the idea of him loving him back was ridiculous.
“Everything” Shoko sighed, “Go talk to him”
“I don’t think he wants to see me,” Suguru said quickly.
“He’s emotionally constipated” She shrugged, “He doesn’t know what he wants”
“And you do?”
“Yes” She told him with zero hesitation, “Go talk to him”
-
Shoko didn’t leave much room for argument after that. Suguru feared if he didn’t go talk to Satoru he may have ended up dead.
The closer he got to Satoru’s dorm the more he thought back to what could have upset Satoru. It wasn’t till he got to the outside of the door did it finally click. The joke. That stupid joke he offhandedly said. The one he didn’t even mean. It was just a stupid defensive joke he had said to get Shoko off his back.
Suguru took a deep breath before lightly knocking on the door, “Satoru it’s me”
He pushed the door open slowly just in case Satoru decided to tell him to go fuck himself.
“Come in” A tired voice called out to him.
Satoru was lying on his front atop of his bed. His day clothes were still on though his sunglasses were neatly folded on his shelf. Suguru sighed, slipping into the room and onto the bed next to him.
“Listen Satoru, about earlier” Sugru started.
“It’s fine” He interjected, “It didn’t bother me”
“It clearly did” Suguru pointed out, “It was a dumb joke that I should never have said”
“Well it’s not like you were lying,” Satoru shot back, looking away from him.
“But it was a lie” Suguru moved his head to be in front of Satoru’s face, “Satoru I love you more than anything”
He decided to cut the point. They weren’t going to get anywhere with the way Satoru is so spilling his heart out is the only way he could think of getting what he was trying to say through the other boy's thick skull.
“You what?” Satoru’s bright blue glassy eyes were now looking straight into his.
“I love you” Suguru grabbed both his hands, “That joke was just me panicking I didn’t mean it”
“You promise?” He said, “This isn’t another joke cause I swear to-”
“It’s not a joke” He cut in.
“I love you to” Satoru nodded a bright smile before wrapping his arms tightly around Suguru’s shoulders before pulling back to press his forehead against the other boys.
“I would fuck you if you were the last man on earth” Suguru whispered between them.
Satoru let out a breathy laugh before leaving a light kiss on the side of his mouth, “Shut up”
