X Marks the Spot

Summary:

A poem written from the point of view of one of the Revenge crew, writing to Izzy after witnessing his death, and making a plan to bring him back.

Who is this mystery crew member? You decide.

(Originally I wrote this for a supernaturally themed writing challenge, so I was trying to be vague about the OFMD references in order for others to enjoy it - but really it was always a work of fanfic!)

Work Text:

Watching you die
In his arms, right there
It wasn't fair

The blood, the love
The oldest friend
There at the end

Went through so much
And only now
Would you allow

A gentle touch
To keep you sane
Against the pain

It took a lot
To change your mind
For you to find

The hardest truth:
Yourself the cause
The Kraken's jaws

When you admitted
You were wrong
And you belong

(Although you couldn't
Say aloud
You were too proud

We understood
The hand you dealt
Your change was felt)

You switched your path
And thus was born
New Unicorn

No sooner found
That life's a rose
Away it flows

Now some might say
You paid the price
For your past vice

But lesson learnt
Your life cut short
And all for naught

I heard you say
"I want to go"
But I don't know

If that were true
Or if you tried
To calm the tide

Of grief that washed
Across us all
Who saw you fall

But we need you
So either way
This oath I'll say:

I'll ask Sea Witch
If he can tell
A magic spell

To bring you back
From where you've gone
However long

The witch transformed
Into a bird
(That's what I heard)

To find his help
I will not rest!
An epic quest

To all the gulls
Upon the sea
I'll make my plea:

My friend now lies
Beneath the sand
I need a hand

To raise him up
Return his soul
Make body whole

(If possible
I humbly beg
Return his leg!

Though if that part
Won't be your will
We'll have him still)

I'll be the Prince
To his Snow White
Our future bright

And with a kiss
I'll breathe new zest
Into his breast

Return his ring
Which we did save
Upon his grave

I'll smile to hear
His grumpy swears
Pollute the airs

Be overjoyed
That he's aboard
Swinging his sword

And off we'll go
A-sailing yet
Into the sunset.
