Work Text:
No one talks about how terrifying it is to realise you’re the centre of someone else’s world.
Two months after they’d started dating, Isagi lay awake in bed. Bachira had murmured a quiet, “‘Love you, Yocchan,” against his cheek and was now fast asleep.
He let the words play on loop inside his head. The declaration of affection wasn’t new—Bachira dropped one every other day over the littlest things. You bought canned pineapple? I love you! Flowers, for me? You’re the best! Aquarium tickets? I wanna go there with you everyday!
“You can’t,” he muttered, brushing aside Bachira’s bangs, “keep saying stuff like that so easily. What if I—“ Let you down. Disappoint. Break the heart you wear on your sleeve.
Isagi doesn’t believe in love at first sight. He’d fallen in love with Bachira over that endless year at Blue Lock and let that young love blossom the first year they were teammates in the J-League together. Bachira, though—Bachira had told him carelessly, “Of course I fell for you the second I met you. You were so—“ and he flapped his hands around for emphasis, “and how could I not.”
The words had hit him like a football to the head.
Maybe love at first sight is real. If it is, Isagi’s gonna keep that love alive forever. He lands a delicate kiss on Bachira’s forehead before he pulls the covers up.
