Annabeth’s best friend got a boyfriend and, surprisingly enough, the world did not end
That may sound like an obvious conclusion for anyone else who’s not a teenage girl with abandonment issues who's really attached to her friends, but to Annabeth? That's a miracle
It’s been almost 4 months since Percy decided to start dating that unfortunate looking guy and the only changes were that Percy now goes out during the weekends and uses her phone more throughout the day. Annabeth may no longer trust Percy's opinion if they ever decided to play ‘smash or pass’, but that's the least of her problems
And if she ignores the dread that is the fact that when Percy finally breaks up with Lester she can no longer say “you’re not her type” or “she would never be into you” to the next person that asks her to set them up with her best friend, then everything is ok
At any rate, Annabeth has better things to do with her time than to think about the fact her friend probably feels attraction towards humanoid cartoon rats. Today they're planning to have a girl’s night in their dorm and everything has to go according to plan.
As a boarding school Mayfair tries to balance cultivating their pupils’ independence with a great amount of adult supervision so parents can feel safe with someone else is raising their daughters into people they can brag about at parties with the knowledge that they can also blame other people if said daughter goes wild
With that said, besides the school inspectors whose main role these days seems to be making sure Persephone Jackson puts some clothes on after swimming practice and stopping any fights that may break out thanks to The Hunters, Thalia Grace, Clarisse La rue and Percy Jackson herself, there's also the Dorm Parents.
For those who are unaware, a Dorm Parent is an adult whose role is to supervise the students who live in the residence hall of a boarding school. Their role mostly consists of doing the job of an actual semi-involved parent for hundreds of kids. They help kids adjust to the new environment of a boarding school, help with homework and provide emotional support. They're also huge buzzkillers
Mayfair has three different dorm buildings that are interconnected by a large garden courtyard. Their names are Grace, Constance and Harmony and if they sound cheesy as hell it’s because they truly are.
Annabeth and most of her friends live in the Grace building, which in her opinion is the best one. The rooms are larger, the internet is better and the girls are less weird than the ones in the Constance or Harmony buildings. Well, most of the hunters live on the same building as Annabeth but she still maintains that a lesbian virginity cult is less weird than the girls at Constance who follow her around when Luke comes to pick her for the weekend, that's her brother for fuck sake’s
Ignoring those weirdos, each dorm building has two sets of dorm parents in charge of the students residing there. They're the ones who put a stop to any shenanigans the girls may get up to, thus the title of buzzkillers.
They're also surprisingly inclusive, seeing that them not allowing girls to sleep over at each other's dorm rooms implies that they're aware lesbians exist and that there’s a lot of them in Mayfair
But fear not, Annabeth has a plan to make sure they don’t mess up her evening
First Step: The distractors
“Mrs. Bloom, i think i’m getting bullied” That type statement was already something chilling and heartbreaking to hear coming from any girl under Janet Bloom’s care, but of course it had to come from the absolute worst source possible, Bianca di Angelo
Little Bianca di Angelo, whose family allegedly runs the Italian mafia, cousin of Persephone Jackson, whose family allegedly runs the Greek Mafia, who without a doubt wouldn't hesitate to attack anyone messing with her younger cousin
Doing her best to keep it calm, Janet asked “What happened Bianca, did anyone pick on you?” already calculating how much sick leave she can get after announcing this issue to the headmistress. It wouldn't even be a lie, she already feels a bit sick
Bianca shook her head“I don't think so, but my school binder went missing and my dad said that a sign of bullying is when your belongings disappear and if that happens to tell a trusted adult and if that doesn't work to call him so he’d solve it” she carefully recited
“Oh dear, how about we go look for your binder together? Did you leave anything important in it we should also watch out for?”
“I had some pictures of my little brother, Percy and I at the beach glued to it. We all were wearing our favorite swimsuits”
Ok, now there's two possibilities, either Bianca is being bullied or one of Persephone Jackson’s ‘fans’ got a bit overzealous and Janet doesn't know what’s worse
On another floor, the second dorm parent Linda Smithson was too busy doing her best to prevent the escalation of an argument between Clarisse La Rue and Rachel Elizabeth Dare to notice Thalia Grace and Percy Jackson sneaking around, each carrying a mattress
Second Step: Beauty and Persuasion
“Did you pack everything?” Silena asked her younger sister while applying her favorite shade of lipstick
Rolling her eyes, Drew responded “Yes, i have the make up, the nail polish and the face masks” gesturing to the bag she packed on top of her bed
“Did you pack the hypoallergenic cleanser?”
Without answering or breaking eye contact with her sister, Drew opened the bag and brought out said cleanser
Rolling her eyes, Silena said “God, i’m just checking, no need to get sassy” fixing her hair and popping two buttons of the white school shirt, she asked “How do i look?”
Nodding with a proud look in her eyes, Drew said “Like a slut” as she slung her bag on her shoulders
“Thank you” Silena then walk out of her dorm and knocked the room next door
“Hey, can i—” it was actually kind of cute how Anna James’ face could go from bored to bright red in less than 20 seconds “H-hey Silena, can i help?” she asked, stuttering a bit
Playing with her hair, Silena asked “Hey Anna, actually, do you mind doing me a big favor?” with puppy eyes and a smooth, almost needy, voice
Without thinking twice, Anna rapidly nodded “Uhm, yes, whatever you want of me!” doing a did a soldier-like salute
“Good girl” Silena said with a teasing smile “I won’t ask anything much, i just want you to shoot me a text if you hear the Dorm Parents footsteps coming this way, can you do that?”
“Y-yeah, I can, no problem. Not like i sleep during the night anyway” The poor girl rambled a bit
“Really? Thank you so much then, love” Silena finished with a smile, turning around and going back to Drew who was waiting at their room’s door holding their bags leaving a bright red Anna James behind as she walked away
After gaining a bit of distance, Drew said “You’re a sadist” with an amused tone
Silena simply shrugged as she adjusted the strap of her bag onto her shoulder “No idea what you're talking about”
Third Step (or the first one): The planning and the snacking
Now, you may be wondering? What are Annabeth and Piper doing while their friends do much to ensure the success of their girls’ night? Well, besides the fact that they stole and took copies of this week’s room inspection schedule a week prior in preparation for this, they're also out buying snacks
“Are any of us allergic to corn?” Piper asked, checking the contents of a surprise candy bag
“I don't think so? We’ve all eaten Doritos before and no one died so i guess not” Answered Annabeth, as she calculated the amount they were spending on her phone
Stopping what she was doing, Piper turned to her friend and asked “There’s corn in Doritos?” in an incredulous tone
Reminding herself that her stepmother always taught her to be kind to people who know less than her, Annabeth replied “They're literally made out of corn kernels, Piper” before remembering something “Wait, i need to grab some Gatorade for Luke” her brother deserved something for driving them to the store, after all
Last Step: Profit???
After a tiring day making sure everything was in place for the girl’s night, they were now deciding the one thing they shouldn't have put off, who’s going to sleep where. Annabeth has already agreed to share a bed with Piper, she’s the only one who neither drools, clings or kicks in her sleep.
“I refuse to sleep on the floor, so guess i’ll have to sleep with Percy on her bed” proclaimed Drew, wearing a silky pink nightgown with lace details at the top and bottom
“The hell you will, i already called Percy's bed like a week ago” shot back Thalia, her pyjamas consisting of loose shorts and a threadbare Green day shirt
“You guys can take my bed if you want to—” Offered Percy, wearing a blue ensemble that consists of tiny boxer shorts and a spaghetti strap top
“No!”
“Why don’t you guys all sleep together?” Asked Bianca, wearing her cute frog pyjamas. Not at all worried about this argument because she already called sharing a mattress with Rachel
“Yeah, do that, we’re in nine afterall. One of us is bound to end up sharing a bed with two more people and Percy has the biggest bed” Reasoned Rachel, wearing a baggy paint splattered T-shirt and some loose shorts
“That's fine with me” Offered Percy, sitting on her bed and patting both the sides next to her
“Ok, but only if Percy sleeps in the middle” was the agreement Drew and Thalia came to
With all the black haired girls agreeing to sharing a bed, the night moved on to better things, like gossip
“Wait, so Courteney was actually cheating on Mckenna?” Asked Clarisse, sprawled on one of the two mattresses they put between Percy's and Annabeth’s beds
Nodding, Silena said “Unless they agreed on a threesome with McKenna’s brother then yeah, she is” while laying on her stomach, eating a cookie kicking her feet
From above them, Percy said “Not surprised by that, i remember one time i was in charge of cleaning the stables and i caught Courtney making out with Britney Simons” as she was laying on her bed
“And why didn't think to say anything?” Asked Thalia, who sitting on one of the floor mattresses and grabbing a cooking
Shrugging, Percy said “Well, I was not about to tell her that. One time Courtney bumped into me on the hallway and as she was apologizing McKenna jumped out of nowhere and accused me of trying to steal her girlfriend” cringing a bit
“Then she deserved it” was the consensus, with Annabeth, Thalia and Drew saying it a bit more harshly
“Typical Cuckenna” Said Drew, who was sitting next to Percy, rolling her eyes while playing with the girl’s hair “Want me to bully her for you?” she proposed
“No, but it’s nice of you to offer”
They didn't only gossip, they also did each other's makeup
“I’m down for anything but no foundation, please” Percy said, surrendering herself to Silena's hands
Rolling her eyes, Silena said “I know, i know” she turned around and glared at Clarisse “Don’t think i’m not seeing you, stay right there because you're next”
“Damn, i’m just getting comfy here”
Pausing from where she was doing Thalia's eye makeup, Drew asked “What’s up with Percy and foundation?”
Rachel, who was having her makeup done by Annabeth, chimed in “I always wondered about that too”
“Oh, she’s just allergic” said Bianca, without looking at them, too focused on doing Piper’s makeup
“To all kinds of foundations?” Piper asked, doing her best to not move too much
“Pretty much, back when we were 13 a lady at Sephora did her makeup and she used foundation, let’s just say Percy's skin was almost burned off. We did get some really good coupons though” Annabeth said, recalling the foundation incident
“Oh yeah, Ms. Circe, heard she opened up a spa” chattered Percy, who was currently being straddled by Silena
It may be cliche, but they also did each other's hair and nails
“Your hair is getting longer, are you growing it out?” Percy asked Thalia
“Not really, just haven't had the time to get a haircut lately, what do you think?”
Running her fingers through the punk girl's hair, Percy said “I think you look pretty either way” then, with a mischievous grin, she tugged the hair at the nape of Thalia's neck, saying “You always makes the funniest face when i do that” with a laugh
“Fuck off! I’m cutting my hair tomorrow!”
Rolling her eyes, Percy asked “Want me to do it for you like last time?”
“...sure”
Watching the two black haired girls from where Silena was curling her hair as one would watch a trainwreck,Clarisse asked “What the fuck is going on between those two?”
Pausing for one second to think, Silena shrugged saying “No one knows” then went right back to work
“Why’d I have to wet my hair in the bathroom?” Asked, Rachel whose hair was currently being done by Drew
“Because you have curly hair and every idiot knows you don't brush curly hair when it’s dry”
“...You don’t?”
“That actually explains so much, i’ll send you a YouTube tutorial after this”
“Thanks”
“What color nail polish do you want?” Piper asked Annabeth while the blond was getting her hair done by Bianca
“Purple, I guess? Wait, do you still have that sea-green one?”
“That's the gayest thing that’s ever come out of your mouth, but sure. What about you?” She asked, turning to Bianca
“I want the army green one, Percy's eyes are pretty but i wouldn't want them on my nails”
“God, i love you, Bianca”
To end the night they played “Never have i ever”
Typically that game would be played with alcohol, but since they didn't have it, they used gummy bears
“Never have i ever, kissed a guy” Said Thalia starting the game
The only ones who ate a gummy bear at that were Silena, Clarisse and Percy
“Sorry for not being bitchless” said Clarisse, rolling her eyes
“I’m a proud boy kisser, thank you very much, just wish i wasn't reminded about the boy Percy's been kissing” Said Silena with a shudder
“He’s the best” Was all Percy said but that gross lovesick look on her face spoke a thousand words
“Eww, my turn. Never have i ever been kicked out of a library for fighting” Annabeth spoke while looking at Percy who promptly ate a gummy bear
“And if i was capable of going back in time i’d do it again” Percy nodded with a proud look on her face
“Ok, my turn. Never have i ever kissed a girl” Bianca interjected
This time the ones who ate were Silena, Drew, Piper and…Percy?
Chewing on her gummy bear, Percy noticed almost everyone staring at her “What?”
“Percy, you know you’re supposed to eat it ONLY if you’ve kissed a girl, right?” Annabeth explained
“I know, that’s why i ate the gummy bear”
“Don’t you have a boyfriend?” Asked Clarisse, her tone amused
“Yeah, but that was before he became my boyfriend” Percy replied, her face starting to look confused
“Who was the bit—, sorry, who was the girl you kissed?” Thalia interjected, looking a weird mixture of annoyed and upset
“Drew, she taught me how to kiss before my first date” Was all Percy had to say before they all turned to stare at Drew, who met their eyes looking every bit like the cat who got the cream
“What? Was I meant to let her go there completely unprepared? Of course not. I mean, not that i needed to teach her a lot, turns out Percy is natural at kissing” Drew tried to subtly brag but to everyone hearing it it’s obvious she’s very proud of being Percy's first kiss
Safe to say the game had to end there, good news that it didn't descend into a catfight. Well, not a physical one at the least
