Work Text:
“OOF!”
Tsukasa huffed out, as he dropped one of the biggest pumpkins he’s ever had an encounter with onto his table. Maybe 2 hours ago or so, Rui (his wonderful beautiful partner for life) and himself had went out to buy pumpkins to celebrate the coming of Halloween. But Tsukasa took it seriously! He would be choosing the biggest, orangest..whatever a pumpkin needed to be considered healthy, even if that meant struggling.. a bit too much to bring said pumpkins home.
“My star, I love you to the moon and back but I don’t think I’ll be able to ever carry something again with the state that my back is in” a thump vibrated through the table as Rui dropped his pumpkin on Tsukasa’s dining room table, practically throwing himself on a chair nearby. The affects of the cold still present on his cheeks and the tip of his nose with a pink hue that made him look quite adorable to the blonde’s eyes. “Well, be prepared, dearest!” Tsukasa walked over and pat his back. “We still have a while to go with our day together!!”
Rui leaned forward into Tsukasa, expecting him to give a little peck on the lips before they started. Atleast that would’ve given him the energy to regain his strength. “Ah, ah Rui, not until we finish this! I promise I’ll give you all the kisses you desire if we work together well enough!”A little whine could be heard from Rui as he practically defleated, almost mirroring the demeanour of a wet cat while Tsukasa begun setting up their necessary material; a spoon, a tool sharp enough to cut through the pumpkins, and a pair of markers. “My moon, do you mind getting us two pairs of gloves for? They’re in the kitchen.”
“Mhhmmm~…” Rui got up from one of his god awful sitting postions that would surely take a toll on his back later on and gracefully headed towards the kitchen. At his arrival, Tsukasa dropped the tool he was using to cut through the top of the pumpkin and let it fall back onto the table as his heart melted at the sight of Rui’s hair tied up into a tiny ponytail. It definitely wasn’t the first time he’d done it, but it definitely wasn’t the first time Tsukasa had blushed like an idiot just at the sight of his beloved’s hair tied up. Though, what could he say? It wasn’t his fault he was so head over heels for that man! Honestly it was quite tempting to just kiss him right then and there, but he literally just told Rui to wait until they were done, so he composed himself, calming his ever rapidly beating heart from all the cute images plastered through his mind.
“Blushing now are we?~”
“Hmph! Perhaps!! But you cannot deny that you love it when your star swoons over you!”
“Fufu, got me there. Maybe I just want that kiss.” Tsukasa put on one of the pairs of gloves Rui had just returned with before carefully removing the part of the pumpkin he had cut off, putting it aside to reveal the slimy inside of pumpkin number 1. Tsukasa rolled up his sleeves, but they both grimaced at the work they had ahead of them.

Around an hour later, both pumpkins had been meticulously emptied from anything that would usually been considered a disturbance when carving. They both stood there, proud of what they were able to accomplish. “Alright! Step one, complete! Now’s the fun part!” Tsukasa said as he wanted to dispose of his and Rui’s gloves as soon as possible, the texture being absolutely too much for the both of them even with gloves.
“And I thought carrying those things home were hard..” Rui picked up one of the loose markers on the table. While tsukasa picked up the other one. “Kiss now?~”
“Not now, Rui. We haven’t finished yet. I promise the results are gonna be worth it!” Tsukasa pat the taller one’s hair as he watched him grab a marker from the table, following him and taking the remaining one onto his hand. “So mean, my star~ depriving me of the one thing I live for?~ how could you!” He faked cried as Tsukasa rolled his eyes at him. “I’m sure you can survive the next half hour without kissing me, my love.”
“You never know what could happen to me, I was formerly known as ‘the mad scientist of explosions’ for a reason, after all~”
“It’s not like I wasn’t considered strange by my peers when I was younger aswell! You just happen to have a cool nickname to go along with it! Very unfair if you ask me.” Rui just giggled softly in return, staring down at the marker in his hands with a soft expression. “Yknow, kasa-kun, I’m so incredibly grateful to have met you..everything about you, it’s- perfect, even more so than I could’ve ever imagined someone to be. Being inlove with you has and will forever be one of the best feelings my humble heart has ever felt for someone.” Now it was Tsukasa’s turn to let out a breathless chuckle of his own as he stared at Rui in awe, grabbing his hand and placing a chaste kiss onto his ring finger before realizing he just broke the agreement he came up with not too long ago. “I-I- That’s the closest thing you’re getting to a kiss on the lips until we’re finished here!! You deserve it at the least!” That seemed to satisfy Rui for the moment although Tsukasa knew there’d be an attack of kisses involved somewhere later on.
They sat in a comfortable silence for a couple more minutes before Rui decided to break it, attempting to find the best angle to start tracing on his pumpkin. “What do you think about carving a star on it? I think that sounds rather nice.”
“A star? I mean sure, but that doesn’t even fit the theme of Halloween! Shouldn’t you be doing something more similar to like a ghost or zombie or- oh were you talking about me.”
“You certainly are the brightest star that I see~ wouldn’t it be a crime if I didn’t think of my wonderful star boyfriend any single moment that I can, hm?” Rui said as he started sketching a large star across his pumpkin, being the outline to what he would soon cut out.
“I suppose it isn’t..thinking about you makes me incredibly happy aswell..” he opens his own marker, deciding to start sketching a crown onto his own pumpkin, tongue slightly sticking out of his mouth as his expression switched from one of fondness to intense concentration. “Yknow, you look very cute. That expression, it suits you.” He knew that the compliment would make him lose a bit of his focus, perhaps even feed into his ego, but he never minded regardless. They’d both go to the moon and back to just have the chance to see eachother. But that’s just what made their relationship all the more special. “Ahem, I’m glad you think so! You yourself are quite endearing when you concentrate on your inventions, stunning even.” Giddy smiles plastered over the both of their faces, they finished cutting their designs onto their pumpkins, finalizing the final step to their designs. “Tsukasa-kun? Do you know where any of your candles are?”
“Let me get them!- I am NOT letting you touch anything flammable inside of my house!” He quickly walked over to a kitchen cabinet, pulling a lighter and a couple of candles out as Rui pouted from the corner of his eye. “Does Tsukasa-kun not trust me anyone?~ how cruel of him..”
“Do you still want that kiss or not?!” He planted a candle inside of each pumpkin, lighting them up and gently placing the tops back on to them, and letting them glow. He walked over to Rui and wrapped his arms around him from behind, watching the efforts of all their hard work become all the more worth it as they stood there in the dimly lit dining room enjoying eachother’s presence.
Rui turned his head around slightly to look at his partner, and Tsukasa took that as an opportunity to give him his well awaited kiss, intertwining their fingers together as let let out a gentle hum into their kiss.
“Once again, my star you’ve surpassed my expectations” and so they kissed again.

The cool autumn air that blowed through the trees and their beautiful red leaves through the dark. The tenma house was quiet, not a single person awake. Tsukasa and Rui had fallen asleep together on his bed later that night, their pumpkins sat comfortably on the blonde’s front porch, while the two teenagers sat comfortably, cuddled up in bed as their slow, sleepy breaths mixed with one and other. Another day worth the mental album of memories.
