Valerie raised the Fenton gun again and fired. She cursed as the beast dodged, and she was forced to roll out of the way as the beast tried to stab her with its pointy tail.

This was the biggest beast yet. It was as big as a horse with six legs, two heads, a scorpion-like tail, and a pair of wings. She had managed to injure the wings early in the fight so the beast couldn’t fly away, but the beast had managed to cut her leg with one of its claws. It was bleeding sluggishly, but she gritted her teeth and ignored it. She had to take care of this monster first, then she’d treat her leg.

The beast dove at her again, and she fired off a shot before ducking and rolling underneath it, managing to land another shot on its belly. The beast roared but didn’t attack her again immediately. It circled her, and Val kept her gun aimed at it. She needed to get in a few more good shots so that the beast would be weak enough to be pulled into her containment device.

But then the beast started to twitch, its skin rippling. And then, horribly, it started to grow.

“Oh that’s not good.” she muttered under her breath.

The creature was now as tall as a semi truck, and another tail had sprouted. It roared again, and she shot a blast into one of its mouths. It reared up, the head she had struck shaking from side to side. Quickly, she fired off several more blasts at the creature's stomach before diving out of the way as the creature lunged.

She scrambled to her feet only to have to dive out of the way of the beast’s twin tails. The asphalt hissed and melted where the tails pierced it.

Oh, great. It’s venomous. Valerie thought darkly to herself. As if it didn’t have enough advantages already.

She could hear a car skidding towards them, sirens wailing.

Finally.

The car screeched to a halt, and Jack and Maddie Fenton jumped out, guns blazing.

They worked together pretty well. Mr. Fenton might not have the best aim, but he was ridiculously strong. He’d climbed onto the beast’s back and wound Fenton electric wire around one of the creature’s heads. With a click of a button he activated it, and the beast howled, allowing her and Mrs. Fenton to fire into the creature’s mouths.

It collapsed, the ground shook, and Mr. Fenton slid off the creature's back.

Valrie brought out the containment device, ignoring the fact that it looked absolutely ridiculous, and activated it, drawing the screeching creature into the thermos-looking device.

They stood around panting for a few minutes.

“What took you guys so long?” Valerie scowled at the adult Fentons.

“There were a few smaller ones on the other side of town.” Mrs. Fenton replied.

Valerie grunted. In her opinion, they should have ignored the smaller ones and come to help her. But the Fentons never listened to what other people said. They always did their own thing. At least, Valerie thought, ignoring all the people who had called them crazy in the past had led to the Fentons developing weapons for creatures they had had no proof existed at the time. Without proper weapons, Valerie was sure the creatures would have destroyed the town.

And she couldn’t judge them too harshly. They were grieving their son, and they had sent Jazz away to live with her aunt until things cleared up here.

She walked over to the Fenton's van, she refused to call it the Fenton Family Monster Assault Vehicle. She opened the back door and pulled out a battery to replace the almost depleted one on her gun. Meanwhile, the Fentons scanned the area and collected residue left by the beast. The more they understood the creatures, the better they’d be able to fight them. She peered at the glowing green battery. It was supposedly energy gathered from the edge of the forest. Valerie would love to look at their setup, but she wasn’t allowed near the forest for fear that the pull would be too strong to resist.

She attached the new battery, then pulled out the first aid kit to treat her leg. She hissed as she applied antiseptic before bandaging the wound. She was putting the first aid kit away as the Fentons finished their scans and walked up to the van.

“Good work today, Valerie. Even though I'd still prefer it if you stayed home. It’s dangerous to fight monsters.” Mrs. Fenton said.

Valrie resisted the urge to roll her eyes. While the Fentons were better at fighting than she would have thought, they couldn’t be everywhere at once. And Valerie had to fight. She couldn’t sit back and do nothing as monsters attacked, and children fell into comas.

“Here’s the… thermos.” she said, fighting not to show her distaste at the name.

“Finally! We have a big beastie we can study!” Mr. Fenton exclaimed. He was more enthusiastic than his wife, but Valerie could see the stress lines in his face that hadn’t been there before.

“Don’t let it out.” Valerie said.

“Don’t worry, dear.” Mrs. Fenton said, patting her on the shoulder. “We’re professionals. We know what we’re doing.”

Valerie doubted that, but there wasn’t much she could do. If she argued back, they might not let her use their weapons anymore.

“Sure.” She replied. “I’m heading home. Call me if you discover anything new.” She hopped out of the van, wincing as pain shot up her injured leg, and started the long walk home.

She was helping. She was. And nothing could stop her. She’d destroy any monsters that attacked Amity, and as soon as she found out how they were coming through, she’d destroy that too. She may not know if she could save any of the kids that had already fallen into comas, but she’d do her best to avenge them and make sure no one else suffered.
