I saw this video a couple of days ago made by a parent who'd been blending food for their child's tube feedings for years, and that came back to me when I started writing this fic. In my mind, Chris has always been the cook in the relationship. After his accident, I imagine Phil feeding himself replicated food and takeout and spending hours preparing and blending foods for his husband's feeding tube. The kitchen was always where Chris showed his love for Phil, and now he's doing his best to repair the favor. I'd like to write more about this concept later, but right now, here's just a taste (lol)

Work Text:

Phil leaned over on the bed and kissed Chris’ forehead. “Good morning, handsome,” he whispered with a smile. “Ready to get up and get dressed?”

Chris met Phil’s gaze, then flicked his eyes to the left and then right. It was the sign he had chosen to mean “no”.

“Are you sure?” he pressed. He gently ran his fingers through his husband’s hair and caressed Chris’ scarred cheek. “I thought we might go see the horses today. I’m pretty sure they miss you.” He fought the urge to comment on how getting out might be good for Chris.

Chris looked away pointedly.

“Alright. You don’t have to,” Phil said with a sigh. He got up from the bed, feeling Chris’ gaze following him as he crossed the room. He opened the blinds, then slid the window open a crack to let in the fresh autumn air. “I’m going to blend your feed, and then I’ll replicate breakfast for myself. Do you need anything before I go?”

He signaled “no” again.

“Okay,” Phil said as he headed toward the door. “I’ll be right back.” Then he paused and hurried back to his husband for one more kiss. “I love you, Chris.”
