Work Text:

It was another average day for Ladybug and Chat Noir, which meant another akuma to battle. Lady Lovelost had been roaming the streets of Paris for the past few hours, turning unsuspecting Parisians into statues.

“Looks like she’s a jilted lover!” Chat called out, hopping over another statue. “Explains the wedding dress! She’s a runaway bride!”

“What makes you say that?” Ladybug asked, directing a handful of frightened citizens to a safe place to hide.

Chat pointed at the crowd of fleeing citizens and tourists. “Look at how many of them are holding hands. She’s sparing couples. I’m telling you, she’s had her heart broken, but she’s still a romantic!”

“I’m sure you’re a love expert,” Ladybug teased.

Chat grinned. “Well, I have my ways.”

“Down boy,” Ladybug said, before turning back to Lady Lovelost as she continued her rampage. “I think this is a time for me to use my Lucky Charm!”

A small ring box, red patterned with black polka dots, dropped into her hand. When she opened it, it revealed a black ring with a red jewel.

“What are you supposed to do with that?” Chat said.

Ladybug hesitated.

The Lucky Charm had never steered her wrong before…

“Chat Noir,” she began, going down onto one knee. “Will you make me the happiest heroine in Paris and marry me?”

Chat had always had a flair for the dramatic, so he caught onto Ladybug’s plan right away. “Oh, Ladybug! I thought you’d never ask! Of course I’ll marry you!”

“Tone it down a bit,” Ladybug hissed.

Chat stuck out his tongue.

Thankfully, Lady Lovelost started moving closer. “Young love never lasts, you know,” she snarled, though it was hardly as vicious as before.

Good, she was starting to be lulled into a false sense of security.

“Maybe you got your heart broken, but My Lady would never do that to me,” Chat said.

Lady Lovelost scoffed, turning her head to one side, as if trying to hide the tears in her eyes. “As if a pair of kids like you could possibly–”

Chat took advantage of Lady Lovelost’s distraction, calling out “Cataclysm!” and leaping towards her.

Just like that, it was over, and Lady Lovelost transformed back into Juliet Cappeau, clutching at the bouquet of flowers that had housed her akuma.

Ladybug had a lot of sympathy for Juliet. She had found out that her fiance had been cheating on her when the other woman showed up at their wedding, and she had stormed right out, too angry and humiliated to face her soon-to-be-ex-fiance.

Chat gave Juliet the number of a good lawyer, and wished her well as she was taken back home. Soon enough, it was time for Ladybug and Chat Noir’s post-akuma debrief.

“You know… I wouldn’t mind another proposal,” Chat said, looking up at the sky. It was late evening, and the stars were starting to come out.

“Maybe when we’re older,” Ladybug murmured.

Chat curled up closer, his head on Ladybug’s lap. “Yeah… when we’re older.”

The future felt so far away, but they had each other, and maybe that was enough, if only for a moment.
