Work Text:
“Seeing this place empty is always so daunting.”
Piano Man whistled to himself as he stared over the empty concert hall. The two of you had been at your favorite restaurant earlier, and a rash decision led to this – breaking into the concert hall that the both of you used to perform at years ago. It felt like a lifetime had gone by since the last time you took the stage.
“It’s crazy to think that the last time I was up here, I was young with no idea what I wanted to do or be yet.” Piano Man scoffs at the thought, his hand glazing over the grand piano in the center of the stage. “Looks like they haven’t gotten around to putting away the instruments yet.”
You spotted a violin nearby, also lined up on the stage among the other strings of its kind. It was surreal, seeing a ghost of your own instrument before you in such a hauntingly beautiful manner.
“I noticed that you’re doing well. You know what I mean.” Piano Man hit a high F key to emphasize his point. “I’ve gotta say – I’m proud of you. You’ve come so far in the time that I’ve known you.”
After a long, drawn out moment, he chuckles and shakes his head at a thought only known to himself before his eyes fell on the piano. The stage lights are low, reminiscent of time's past.
“It’s never too late to begin again, you know.” He grinned as he said that, slyly letting his cuffs cover his wrists as he shrugged. “Just because life pulled us away from our passions doesn’t mean that we can’t revisit them whenever we feel the need to.”
With that, Piano Man snatched the music from the stand on the piano and chuckled familiarly before stepping your way with an additional copy.
“Here, this is for you.” Piano Man gave you a wry smile, placing the sheet music on your stand as he sauntered to the piano bench behind you. The song title is one you’ve heard a million times before. “Once more, from the top. We’ll be concert-ready in no time.”
