Summary
Piano Man knows his brain works differently than most of the population, operating in black-and-white just like his wardrobe, which would be funny if it wasn’t so frustrating for him. It’s constantly “all or nothing” for him; most people see this come out through his work, often taking a dangerous amount of stimulants and then forgoing days of sleep to reach his craftsman quota in one sitting even though the deadline isn’t for months.
There are consequences for engaging in such a destructive cycle as frequently as Piano Man does - he just doesn’t have a reason to care.

Summary
Sometimes, Albatross wakes up and immediately knows he’s not going to be able to get through the day without one of his many, many vices, a crutch that keeps him upright when the weight simply existing as himself feels heavy enough to crush him whole. He knows he could reach out to the Flags, who would all be more than willing to help, but he’d much rather self-medicate to hell and back than possibly burden his friends with his stupid problems.
A self-destructive solution is better than no solution at all, right?

The implication goes unspoken: get mad at me so that I can have more fuel.
All life lessons are taught through blood, sweat and tears. Lippmann will never be an exception to that rule, for not even good looks or natural talent can spare him from the inevitability of failure.

The staff member who runs the office, the legendarily vindictive Mr. Verlaine, is a lost cause. That’s not a problem though, because Dazai knows exactly how to circumvent him. Chuuya, however—"I told you not to call me that, asshole!"—is intent on making that as difficult as possible.
