Play Cupid

Summary:

—March 7th is sick of watching her two best friends, Dan Heng and Caelus, pine over each other like lovestruck teenagers while still remaining absolutely oblivious.

It’s obvious to everyone else that they’re hopelessly smitten, but these two? Clueless.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

March 7th had been dealing with Dan Heng and Caelus’s pining for a while now. And not just a casual, pass-in-the-hallway type of pining—oh no, these two had the sort of oblivious pining that could drive even the most patient person up a wall. She had given them time, kept quiet, hoping that eventually one of them would take the plunge and say something. But it’d been days. Well, maybe more like weeks, if she was honest, and they were no closer to confessing than they’d been at the start

Watching her best friends practically tiptoe around each other was almost physically painful. She’d catch Caelus making doe eyes at Dan Heng from across the room, gaze soft and full of something unspoken. But when she nudged him about it later, what did he do? Laugh it off.

“Dan Heng? He’s just really cool, you know?” Just really cool, her foot! No one gazed at 'just really cool' people with that amount of earnest yearning.

Then there was Dan Heng. He was just as bad, if not worse. He’d spend extra time brewing Caelus’ tea, making sure it was perfect. March had even caught him watching Caelus as he walked away, a faint smile on his face—practically unheard of from him. But as soon as she so much as hinted that his soft smiles weren’t strictly 'friendly', he’d go all stoic and deny everything

March’s eye twitched just thinking about it. I’m surrounded by idiots.

“Oh, no, it’s not romantic” Dan Heng had said in that infuriatingly calm voice of his the other day. “Caelus is just… thoughtful. And unique" Thoughtful and unique? Please. Those were confessions in disguise, and everyone but them could see it! Himeko had even started betting on when they’d finally crack, and Welt kept giving March sympathetic smiles every time she brought it up. It was a conspiracy now, a universal understanding that Dan Heng and Caelus were perfect for each other. Everyone knew it, except the two most crucial people involved

She couldn’t take it anymore. This was ridiculous. March decides that she'll handle this, They wanted to keep thinking they were just 'good friends', 'Best Buddies', or whatever vague excuse they’d come up with next? Fine

March will take matters into her own hands and play cupid and make them finally realize the eachothers feelings.
