EPIC: A hero’s tale

Summary:

“Odysseus is wary of this strange masked figure; he doesn’t know what to make of it. He and Polites were about to leave the cave the lotus eaters informed them about until his friend started walking towards the figure. He knew of Polite's almost naive level of optimism, but this was too much even for him. Just as Polites made the figure aware of them with a greeting, Odysseus gripped his sword tightly, preparing to unsheathe the weapon. The figure turned slowly. Polites words from earlier ringed in his ears: ‘greet the world with open arms’. Odysseus sighed, loosening his grip on his blade. ”

Or Midoriya accidentally lands himself in the Epic the musical’s version of the odyssey and makes Odysseus’s journey back home a relatively more easy but just as eventful one.

EPIC: A hero’s tale.

Izuku’s POV

Midoriya’s eyes widened in shock as his phone was shot right out of his hand. A swishing sound could be heard not even a second later before the accompanying sound of two pieces of metal clashing against each other. He looked to where his device of communication was shot down to and found it pierced by a strange and colorful-looking bullet.

The bullet kept the now broken phone in place, etched into the building like a piece of paper in between a pin and a wall.

“Little boy dressed in green." The voice vibrates through the silent night sky; the voice sounded in such a way that it was obvious that it was coming from a microphone of sorts.

“Don’t move, and you’ll keep all your limbs,” the voice continued on with a threat and ultimatum. One that he had no intention of following, and one that she had no intention of suffering the consequences of.

He quickly jumped into action. Leaping of the building of the building, he was just on wig tremendous force. Sending out two strands of black whip. One to sail through the air by swinging and the other to retrieve his phone to check if he could potentially salvage it.

“I told you not to move,” the voice rang again. Shooting a bullet towards the green-haired and currently masked teen. Danger sensed sent a signal to his body, preparing him for the attack before it inevitably tried to make contact. Just as the bullet curved a building in the area and pierced him, he caught it.

However, the force of the bullet pushed him back. In the distance, he saw another bullet; this time he used a mixture of both float and the momentum of his body to kick the second bullet away.

Midoriya had become recently aware of the person who was currently attacking him. Lady Nagant. An ex-pro hero, someone who previously worked in the same position Hawks was in but now is a hired gun sent from All for one to capture him.

This was his chance to get information about All for One and the league’s whereabouts. His chance to get one step closer to ending this seemingly endless battle. One step closer to making sure his friends are safe once again. One step closer to...

Suddenly, without danger sense going off once again, he felt a tug at his body.

“What?” The boy couldn’t help but wonder out loud. The tugging didn’t step; if anything, it got worse. He tried to use float in order to get control over his body again. His attempts proved useless as his body suddenly went crashing down to the ground painfully.

Midoriya closed his eyes for a moment, wincing at the unexpected contact to the previously harder surface. As he opened his eyes, he was greeted with what looked to be a forest. The hard concrete he had been dropped to was now softer dirt with grass sprinkled on top. Was this another one of All for One’s Tricks?

It was then when Midoriya heard the shackling of bushes followed by what sounded like a bunch of critters prancing and running around. Danger sense didn’t activate, but Midoriya took a stance any way he didn’t want to take any chances. The noises of the rustling got louder, making it easier to assume that whatever was making those sounds was getting closer as well.

Midoriya tightened his fist. Until one small creature that he couldn’t describe popped out, followed by many more of the tiny animals?

Odysseus POV

Odysseus was very unsure of this. He was not exactly a fan of this plan that the man that he would consider his closest friend had suggested or lack of one to be more accurate.

“Polites, are you sure that this is the right approach?” He questioned

The man filed his head and smiled the same hopeful smile he always had since they were children. “Trust me, people are more likely to trust someone who doesn’t have a sword pointed at their neck,” he answered, to which Odysseus doesn’t exactly disagree with that line of logic.

“If you say so,” Odysseus says in a non-convincing tone.

“This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms, Odysseus." Polites said, repeating the same words that he spoke of earlier.

They passed by a river stream, a rather peaceful one at that. The sounds of water falling upon itself, sending waves of calmness flowing into Odysseus. Still, he had to still feel the need to make his point to politicians.

“What if our kindness gets shoved back to us? What if instead we’re the ones who end up getting swords pointed at our necks? What then?” He asked. He wanted to know just how far Polite Carrie’s ideals are and how much he really believes in them. Believe in the hearts of strangers, believe in the hearts of potential enemies, believe in the heart of potential himself, believe in the heart of Odysseus... He was cut off from his line of thinking.

“Then we won’t be the ones in the wrong. I’m not saying not to be prepared; I’m saying that we don’t need to greet every single thing with an air of antagonism. We don’t need to be unjust to potential friends.”

“What about potential foes?” Odysseus asked, reflecting his past thoughts out loud. Polites shook his head with a knowing smile as if he were a mind reader. Which at this point he very well may be.”

“Odysseus, every friend was a potential foe at one point of another.” The man spoke with such sureness that he would bet even the gods would be shocked at the aura of confidence.

Odysseus smiled, a smidgen of humor littering his tone. “I don’t think there’s a world where I could imagine you as my enemy friend.” The captain and king spoke with an air of nostalgia, thinking of the two’s shared past.

“You don’t know that; remember the boar? What if it was my favorite boar and I wanted revenge?” Polites said with a straight face devoid of any joy or light that Odysseus was used to.

The man would feel worried if it wasn’t for Polites bursting out in laughter as if he had said the funniest joke known not only to men but to Olympus as well. One that Odysseus couldn’t help but join in mere seconds later.

“Well, that’s something I can’t argue with.” Odysseus chuckled, wiping a stray tear of humor from his face before gravity did it for him.

”You can’t, can you? He asked rhetorically, copying and wiping at his eye just as he did.

It was then that both Odysseus and Polites heard the strange sounds coming just ahead of them. Their sight was obscured by the tall bushes in front of them.

They hesitantly brushed past the Mother Nature-made distraction. And saw many small creatures. “Hello friends,” he heard Polities introduce himself. “Do you know where we can find something to eat?” He asked

Odysseus watched nervously as he waited for their response.

"Food,” they chirped in unison just before carrying what looked to be strange-looking fruit.

"See,” Polites said simply before grabbing the food gently from the creatures. Odysseus took what was given to him and inspected it with an analytical look. Taking a hesitant sniff of the fruit, “We can’t eat this,” he called out to Polites.

“It’s lotus fruit,” he explained before dropping it back on to the now acknowledged lotus eaters.

”I see,” Polites gave a nervous smile. “Say, Tiny Friends, do you happen to know where we could find different kinds of food?” He asked, not losing a pep in his step.

“More food?” the lotus eaters looked at each other and said, “Cave!” They chirped in unison once again, "nearby," and some of them yelled.

“Thank you, friends,” Polites replied enthusiastically before turning to Odysseus. “Open arms, my friend, open arms.” He stated before patting Odysseus on the shoulder.

Just as they were going to go on their way, they heard more rustling. They admittedly didn’t make the smart move and went to say what the commotion was about, and what they saw shocked both him and Polities.

It was a creature like they had never seen. Shorter than most of both them and the soldiers on his ships, but what it had in size was made up for in sheer strangeness. They could only see its backside, but what they saw was already enough to talk about.

Covered head to toe in green. Its head was likened to some kind of rabbit. It’s unruly hair? Fur? Danced in the air as did its short yellow cape that hanged from its shoulders. A type of belt of shorts wrapping around it. Gazing even further down were abnormally giant shoes that had some type of metal at the bottom of them.

All to say, Odysseus is wary of this strange masked figure; he doesn’t know what to make of it. He and Polites were about to leave the cave the lotus eaters informed them about until his friend started walking towards the figure. He knew of Polite's almost naive level of optimism, but this was too much even for him. EPIC: A Hero’s Tale

Izuku’s POV

Midoriya watched as one of the two men approached him. The tiny creatures didn’t seem to view them as a threat, but he could never be too careful.

The man walked up to him with an easy-going smile and started speaking in a language he couldn’t understand.

Hello friend, who might you be?” The glasses-wearing man spoke. Midoriya couldn’t really know what he was saying, but the way it sounded seemed like a question.

Unfortunately, he had no way of answering. The two stared in awkward silence as the man’s smile started to dim. Midoriya started to feel bad. He has a feeling the man thinks Midoriya is ignoring him.

What were these two anyway? Maybe pro heroes. Midoriya quickly discards that thought. He feels he would know of two uniquely dressed pros. Their armor was strange; it looked like what Roman or Greek soldiers would wear way back. Then again, history before quirks existed was never exactly a clear picture, so maybe he was way off

"Polites,” the man spoke once again. Polites? That sounded like a name—a foreign one but still a name. He debated giving out his name in his head.

Would it really be smart to give potential All for one hitman his full name. He decided to settle on his hero one, also the one he thinks would be the easiest to pronounce.

“Deku”…
