Work Text:

“Never have you ever thought what would you do if none of this mess happened?”

That straightforward question snapped Marcoh back to reality. He was just vibing quietly to the jazz playing on the radio, sipping his Old-Fashioned and staring the floor. Marcoh didn't expect to have any type of conversation, judging from the way the others were so invested in talking with eachother, but not with him. Marcoh preferred that way.

“ ‘m sorry, I didn't pay attention.”

“No problem. I was a bit curious to know what are your plans for after all of this. Well, if we survive, of course.”

Daan is a mysterious one. Everything about him intrigued Marcoh, not in a weird way. His melancholic, calm and elegant aura meant something and Marcoh can't help but be attracted to it. He's different , almost ethereal.

“Don't have any big plans. Maybe teach boxing to kids, I don't know.” Marcoh sipped more of his drink and tried to look at the other man only to be welcomed by Daan’s pretty smile.

“It's a good idea. Hope you can survive to achieve your dream.”

“And you? Any… plans?”

“I’m lost about it too. You see, I came to Prehevil searching for answers and I’ll probably die without them and with more questions about… everything.” Daan came closer and Marcoh felt a warm sensation invading his cheeks. “Isn’t it weirdly fascinating?”

“Kinda.”

He saw the doctor search for something inside one of his pockets. It was a cigarette and for a brief moment he remembered the first day of their arrival in Prehevil. Marcoh observed the man arguing with Karin, a lit cigarette between his slender fingers and harsh, but classy, words coming from Daan’s mouth. He never said to anyone that he found it attractive and Marcoh won't say it. Some words are better to stay a secret.

“If you excuse me, I’m in need of some nicotine. Can we talk more later?”

“Sure thing, doc. I’ll be waiting.”

He watched Daan leave their safe place with his cigarette and a lighter. Marcoh would love to taste the nicotine in Daan’s lips. Maybe if they weren't inside a huge freak show. Maybe if they met in more normal, easier ways. Maybe if they both weren't men. Maybe if Marcoh learned how to love properly.

“Forget him, please.” Marcoh murmured to himself.

So, he drank more of the alcoholic beverage in his glass.
