    Summary

Shadow would have struggled admitting it in the past. Not that Sonic was, in the end, a bastion of the world, one more important than any ultimate lifeform could ever be —Shadow was grown enough to admit it and, as little as he showed it, he truly respected the hero— but that the blue blur, in the grand scheme of things, mattered. Way more than Maria ever did. Or himself, or anyone else he ever treasured. He mattered to the world, and to him.

That was truly felt once he passed.

    OR

It's the end of the world, and after 200 years, only Shadow remains. Even after all this time, as all the new and forgotten memories aswell as life have almost lost all meaning, Shadow still fights in Sonic's memory. He thought he would keep going until he couldn't remember his own name, until Sonic was nothing but a faded ghost of his past.

He didn't think that second part would end up literal.
