The unthinkable

Summary:

The unthinkable happens - it isn't Hinata who gets a blow to the head for once.

Notes:

Day 10: Slurred words./Passing out from pain.

Work Text:

It was something no one would have ever thought to happen. Kenma could almost see it in slow motion. How Kageyama set the ball, how Hinata jumped up incredibly high and then how the ball hit Lev in the face. The sound of his body hitting the floor brought back Kenma from his surprise. The whole team rushed beside the second year as he was lying on the gym floor.

”Lev! Are you okay?!” Shibayama asked as he and the other two second years knelt down and leaned over the Russian.

”’Kay,” Lev reassured him, but his words were totally slurred. Kenma decided to take the situation in his own hands. He gently pushed the youngers aside, taking their place above Lev.

”Lev, how many fingers am I holding up?” He asked as calm as possible, trying to find out if the other has concussion or not. Lev opened his mouth to answer, but only a pained groan came out – even from a small movement of his head.

”Kenma-san, what should we do?” Inuoka whispered to him worried. Kenma then heard a gasp, and when he looked back at Lev, the boy was already passed out. Kenma then changed a look with coach Nekomata and when the man nodded, he turned towards their ace.

”Tora, pick him up and take him to the nurse’s office – gently!” He ordered, putting emphasis on the last word. His friend could be a bit harsh sometimes.

Tora nodded, picked Lev up and the whole team was out of the gym, going towards the Nurse’s office within the blink of an eye.

”He might have a slight concussion,” the nurse informed Kenma and Nekomata – the whole team wanted to be in, but the nurse sternly sent them out. Nekomata being the coach and Kenma the captain gave them enough authority over the others that they could stay. ”He must take today out, and if he has any head pains, he has to come back for further check ups.”

”Thank you!” Nekomata thanked, then looked at Kenma. ”I go and tell the news to the others.” Kenma nodded. He just knew all of them were waiting in front of the infirmary.

”Do I really have to take the day off, Kenma-san?” Kenma heard the weak whisper below him after Nekomata left. He looked down, seeing Lev looking up at him with one of his eyes slightly open. It was almost teary. He sighed, running his hand through his hair.

”You’ve just gotten a blow to the head, Lev. Be happy that you are here and not in the hospital!”

”That would suck, indeed. I might have to skip more then one day then,” Lev agreed and Kenma rolled his eyes.

”You love volleyball a bit too much,” he stated, shaking his head. ”Thanks god, not as insanely as Shouyo, though.” At that, Lev let out a giggle, then fell asleep once again. Kenma reached out and stroked his hair. ”Try not to kill yourself before Nationals, stupid Lev!”
