Work Text:
The stories of the Blood God started spreading ten years ago.
A man, full of bloodlust and unmatched with a weapon in his hand.
A man who would destroy the world.
Of course, the stories started spreading around the time it was realized the Blood God existed, when it was realized he would grow into a God.
He was not the threat he would be, yet.
There was time to try to stop him.
***
It had been a subject of debate who would be the one to go after the Blood God.
Many kingdoms had sent representatives, all debating and arguing for this or that person to go.
It was noticed that they were mostly arguing for those from their own kingdoms to go, to try to get glory for their homeland.
In the end, they sent one of the best sorcerers in all the land, Dream.
He didn’t come back.
***
After that, they sent many other warriors, sorcerers, even assassins. They got desperate, pulling from sources they usually wouldn’t.
Traitors asked to do this last thing to be free, criminals offered a pardon if they succeeded.
All of them disappeared.
Their deaths were all but guaranteed.
***
Ten years passed, of failed attempt after failed attempt, and it was realized they did not have much more time.
They would likely only get one last chance.
It was decided that they would send one last warrior.
***
Philza had become somewhat infamous, due to his black wings and his skill with a sword.
He was a great warrior.
He hadn’t been sent before because they didn’t want to lose him, not after losing Dream.
The two of them had been the greatest force in the land, for all they disliked each other.
Losing both of them at the same time would’ve been devastating.
Losing Philza would still be devastating.
There wasn’t any other choice but to send him.
***
Philza listened to their pleas with a blank face, before agreeing.
He would find, and slay, the Blood God before he grew into his power.
It was not realized that Philza did not know precisely what he was agreeing to.
This would be one of the main sources of regret, years down the line.
***
Philza traveled far to find the Blood God, chasing rumors of sightings and destruction.
For all that he was not world destroying, yet, the Blood God was still formidable.
It took over a year for Philza to track him down.
It is wondered, now, if this was part of the reason for what happened next.
Philza was exhausted. He’d been tracking his quarry for a year.
He was tired.
***
The Blood God, the most feared man in the land, according to stories.
Truly, he was not yet a man, only a child of twelve when Philza found him.
Truly, he was still the Blood God.
He had still killed all who had been sent to stop him.
***
Philza did not know what he was agreeing to.
He was tired.
And standing across a battlefield from him was a young boy, tusks poking out of his mouth and a sword in his hand.
***
The Blood God looked at the winged man across from him, and prepared to fight.
Philza looked at the child across from him, wounds still bleeding from whoever had tried to kill him last, and made a choice.
***
Philza did not know what he was agreeing to when he was asked to kill the Blood God.
He’d assumed that he’d been sent after an adult, one who had not yet fully tapped into his power.
He knew what he was agreeing to with his choice now.
The Blood God was just a child.
***
Philza held out a hand, and the Blood God took it, wariness in his face.
‘Hey mate, let’s get you cleaned up.’
***
The council formed to deal with the Blood God issue despaired when Philza’s message was received.
For all that some tellings ascribe this to be an eloquent missive, in truth it was just three sentences.
He is a child.
His name is Technoblade.
I’m keeping him.
***
The Blood God’s true name is Technoblade.
This was not known until the message from Philza was received.
For all that having a name made some people feel like the Blood God was truly mortal, it was known that he was not, could not be.
Mortals are not able to destroy the world if they so desire.
***
There was mass panic, after Philza’s message was received.
The council tried to keep it under wraps, but it was impossible to.
Especially after the first town was destroyed.
Rumors flew of how the Blood God was running rampant, a winged man at his side.
***
Technoblade didn’t want to destroy the whole world.
That would be boring.
However, he did want to destroy anyone who had wronged him.
Or Philza, who, it came to be known, had adopted the boy.
***
The world did not end.
Nor did it stay the same.
***
The Blood God, Technoblade, settled quite comfortably into a life of power, his father at his side.
Philza smiled softly at his son, and didn’t stop him.
