The thing about hero costumes was that they were just so flimsy sometimes.
Phil supposed they had to be to function properly. Heroes with movement based powers will often sacrifice coverage or proper protection to gain more range and flexibility in their chosen outfit instead.
He found it quite silly.Though, maybe it was just a difference in thinking. Personally, he’d much rather be safe than sorry but he truly could see the merit in their way of thinking. With extra movement they could easily cut a fight short and thus get harmed less.
He saw that for what it was. A gamble.

At one place it even straight out said if he would be ok with being bit in the arm.

At the end he had to sign a declaration of confidentiality that said he would not disclose what happened at the job.
Well, that was weird.

The office was practically silent, the sound of writing and shuffling paper occasionally filling the space. The floor was hard wood, probably spruce, but the desk and chair sat on a plush carpet that felt expensive to the touch.
Currently, he was huddled under the oak desk, back pressed against the panelling that shielded the bottom from view. The position was harsh on his tail and his ears had to press against his head to fit but this was the best he’d be getting.
Hunched up against the dark corner of the desk felt safer than being out in the open where the bastard in front of him wanted him to be, anyways.
After escape attempt number eight, the emperor refused to let him more than a few steps away at any point in time. He even regularly checked under the desk to make sure that he was still there, probably half expecting him to have tunnelled out in the minutes he was left ‘unattended’.
He couldn't. The wood was too thick and it would be far too loud.

In one world, humanity found the answer when something far beyond the rank of god chose them as playthings, the sky shattering like clay, the incomprehensible forcing itself upon the earth's surface. Some died, some became survivors, some were mutated, and a select few were... changed.
Phil is among the ranks of those changed, neither human nor monster but something both more and less. He can no further explain what he is than he can comprehend his very nature of being. He's learned to live with it though. Everyone learns to live eventually.
And then he's taken from this world and into another. A world that never knows a being above their beloved gods. A world where those favored walk among those who are not, either demigods or gods-given flesh depending on the perspective. He's brought to this world and told to help.
How can Phil help them when he can't even help himself?
