Work Text:
Leo didn’t often get the chance to see Jason asleep. Jason almost always woke up before him, and even though Leo went to bed after Jason, Jason was such a light sleeper that he usually wound up waking up when Leo crept into the room. But this time was different. This time Leo and Jason were just holed up in Jason’s office together, Leo quietly tinkering with yet another toy for Sofía, while Jason filled out paperwork he’d been putting off. It was just the two of them in the Waystation for once, seeing as Sofía was with Reyna and Piper for the afternoon, and Jason had apparently gone just a little too long since his last cup of coffee because he’d curled up in his chair and buried his face in his arms and gone right to sleep.
It took a while for Leo to notice the change, he rarely noticed anything when he was working, but then Jason let out a little chuffing whine and Leo whipped his head up with a delighted grin. He crept over to his husband’s side, careful to make as little noise as possible. Sure enough, Jason’s eyes were closed, his face completely slack, and his cheek was all smooshed up on one side. For a second, Leo almost couldn’t breathe around the sudden well of affection that burst to life in his chest. In his gentlest voice he called, “Hey, Superman?”
Immediately, Jason puckered his lips, but he remained firmly asleep, evident by the slight pout that formed when he didn’t receive his expected kiss. Leo bit his tongue hard to keep from giggling like a besotted school girl. When he regained his composure, he spoke again. “You fall asleep on me?”
Jason scrunch his nose a couple times like a confused rabbit, then mumbled, “Goin’ places.”
Leo’s chest once again felt tight, and he carefully sat himself on the edge of the desk so he could look down at Jason. “Yeah? Where you goin’?”
“Home.”
“Home? Aren’t you at home?”
Jason’s eyebrow twitched like it always did when he was confused before he sighed happily. “Yeah. ‘m at home.”
“So, where are you goin’?”
Jason whined high in the back of his throat. “Don’ wanna go. Wanna stay home.”
“Okay, okay,” Leo soothed, softly running his fingers through Jason’s fluffy hair. Just like always, Jason practically melted with a contented coo. “What do you wanna do at home?”
“Somethin’ fun.”
“Something fun? Like what?” Jason mumbled something Leo couldn’t quite make out. “What was that, Superman?”
“People come to our house,” Jason repeated firmly. “An’ we eat… food.”
“Ooh, sounds like a party,” Leo commented. “That is fun. What kinda food do we eat?”
“Tacos.”
“Yeah? We eat tacos?” he asked, his trembling with his desire to laugh. “You wanna have tacos at the party?”
“People bring stuff,” Jason continued. “I like fruit.”
“Bleh, nah, man. Fruit’s dumb. We can’t have a party with fruit.”
Jason let out a whine of protest. “I like fruit. Wanna have fruit.”
“Okay, okay,” Leo conceded. “We can have a fruit and taco party. Do you wanna do it now?”
“M-mmh.”
“No? Why not?”
“Gotta make this for him.”
“Gotta make what for who?”
“My hu’band,” Jason sighed, his mouth curling up at the corners in a smile. “‘m love him.”
Leo bit his lips hard. “Yeah? Who’s your husband?”
“You.”
“I am?” Jason hummed in agreement. “How do you know that?”
“Cuh I love you.”
“Yeah?” Leo asked softly. He was suddenly very glad he and Jason were home alone. This was a moment for him and him alone. “Well, I love you. Does that make you my husband, too?”
“Mm-hmm.”
Leo let his hand fall from Jason’s hair to cup his cheek. His thumb traced over Jason’s cheekbone and he cooed softly. “Okay, I’m gonna let you make your thing, and then we can have a taco and fruit party, okay?”
“Mmkay,” Jason slurred. “‘m love you.”
“Yeah? I love you, too.”
Leo bent over to brush a gentle kiss to Jason’s cheek, right where his thumb had been moments before, and he quietly hopped off the desk to go back to his project, content to let his husband sleep.
