She supposed it should've been obvious that something like this might happen soon, Girlfriend thought as she was roused from a light slumber to the sound of rain pounding against the ceiling of her apartment, drumming against the windows.
It was almost autumn, and it had been a warm summer. The cold was coming in waves, less of a gradual descent and more like a tsunami - one day, it was over eighty degrees out, and the next, it was under sixty.
The final throes of sweltering heat were being pushed out by the upcoming winter, and that meant storms.
