Work Text:

Neither one of his partners liked thunderstorms. Hal knew that. He knew that very well after the many they had been through together. And he couldn't blame either of them for their dislike. Both of them had gone through terrible things thanks to electricity. Things that changed their lives completely. Things that made them heroes but also hurt them deeply.

Barry had suffered a lightning strike that gave him his powers. It had left him with many good things, and was the reason that he had even been able to meet Hal, so he couldn't hate it. But Hal could hate the way that Barry always got more nervous than normal when there was the feel of storms in the air. And the way those nerves became something akin to true fear when the storm broke.

And Danny. Danny was fine until he saw the flash of lighting outside. Then he would get quiet. Too quiet in Hal's opinion. His loud and talkative partner was never quiet or still. Yet when there was lightning outside and the crash of thunder he was. In a way that forcefully reminded Hal just what had happened to him. That he hadn’t just gotten powers in his accident. That he had died. He wasn’t fully alive anymore and while he hid it well those moments where he couldn’t were very clear.

Hal couldn’t do much for either of them. Their trauma was not something he could protect them from. But he could stay with them. He could grab all the blankets in their house and drag them to the living room. He could make a big pile of warm things and put on a fun movie that could distract them. Hal could be the grounding presence that they needed when their worst moments came.
