“Viktor?”
There was a small sound of affirmation from the bed under all the covers. But other than that, the lump under the mountain of duvets didn’t move.
“Viktor, you’re going to suffocate under all that.” Jayce sighed fondly, then came closer to see his partner stick a hand out from under the mountain and reach for him.
“Jayce…” Viktor whined as his hand kept grabbing thin air. He couldn’t see his lover, so he just kept searching for him until Jayce pitied him and took his hand.
“What’s the matter, Vitya? Is he giving you a hard time?”
The moment their hands met, Viktor grabbed Jayce’s wrist and forced it into his hiding place, warm and comfortable. It was soft and a little bit too hot until his hand met something firm. It didn’t have any give, quite the opposite in fact.
When Jayce pressed the round, firm thing, something inside it pressed back.
“Your son has been incredibly active lately…” Viktor said with a tired groan, his exhaustion evident in everything he did. But that was to be expected at 38 weeks pregnant.
“Oh come on, he’s just excited to meet us. He’s almost here, too.” Jayce smiled, feeling around for what he guessed was a knee inside Viktor’s womb.
And it was true. Their baby boy had dropped a couple of days ago, his descent into Viktor’s frail pelvis making him almost unable to walk with how much it had changed. This was why Viktor had mostly abandoned his cane and used a wheelchair instead when he finally got out of bed.
Most days Viktor just wanted to stay in bed and sleep as the exhaustion was getting to the point of being unbearable, but the baby didn’t want that and forced him to go to the rocking chair before he would settle down.
It only helped sometimes.
“Vitya, I think you should walk around for a bit, it might help a bit.” The doting partner tried to remove the endless piles of duvets, much to Viktor’s dismay. While Viktor wasn’t one to complain, he still whined quietly at the loss of the heat from the blankets, duvets, and pillows he apparently also had hidden in there.
When Jayce had removed the mountain of covers, there was only a small man left on the bed, laying on his side with an arm draped over his rounded stomach. “Can you help me get up?” The pregnant man asked, holding out his arm for Jayce to take.
“What would you do without me, Vitya?” Jayce’s rhetorical questions made Viktor sigh in annoyance, but he was smiling softly afterwards.
“I believe I would perish. Now, get me up, please.”
The taller man only chuckled in response to his partner’s joke, and together they got Viktor up in a sitting position, which made the pregnant man wince.
“You alright, love?” The Viktor wasn’t looking too good, much to Jayce’s dismay. But it was normal to Viktor now.
“The baby is low, Jayce… It’s difficult moving without jostling the child within.”
Well, that did make sense.
“Oh Vitya, it’s gonna be okay. I’m sure it’ll be over soon.” He smiled, helping Viktor scoot to the edge of the bed. His poor bones didn’t seem to like it, nor did the baby, but Viktor didn’t complain. He was strong and beautiful and Jayce couldn’t be more in love with him.
“Get the wheelchair, please.” Viktor mumbled, already trying to heave his heavy self up so he could move to sit in the wheelchair.
It worried Jayce. “Hey, hey, what’s your hurry? The baby isn’t coming now, right?”
“No Jayce, the baby isn’t coming now,” Viktor deadpanned, but then he had the decency to look a little embarrassed. “I simply have to use the bathroom. It’s quite urgent.”
“Ah.” Jayce knew that the baby was sitting on Viktor’s bladder more often than not, and now that it had dropped deeper into Viktor’s pelvis, he had to go to the bathroom more often.
So Jayce helped his husband up and into the wheelchair, then wheeled him into the bathroom where he was kind enough to give Viktor some privacy by walking out the door and not hovering as much as he used to these days.
It didn’t take long for Viktor to finish and then Jayce wheeled him back to the bedroom where he helped Viktor back in bed.
Or he wanted to, at least.
Just as Jayce was about to sit Viktor down, the smaller man stopped him with a strange urgency in his voice. “Don’t…! I need to… I need to stand for a bit longer, please.”
The older man understood at once what had to be done. He made sure Viktor stood in a stable position, then put the smaller man’s hands around his neck and swayed them from side to side ever so slowly while having his hands on the hips of his lover.
It was quiet, only the sounds of a crackling fire making themself known in the fireplace as well as Viktor’s quiet groans of pain could be heard. Jayce was steadying Viktor the entire time, being his rock in the confusing and sometimes frightening turmoil that was pregnancy.
“Jayce…” Viktor mumbled after a while, his eyes having been closed the entire time as they both tried to help Viktor feel better.
“Hm?
“I want this to be over as soon as possible, but… I know in my heart that I want this with you.”
Jayce chuckled quietly as he pressed a soft kiss to Viktor’s forehead. “I want this with you, too.”
“Mmh,” Viktor agreed, his amber eyes opening to look up at his husband. “Just… Would you promise me one thing?”
“Anything.” Came Jayce’s quick reply.
“Next time… I will be the one on top.”
This made Jayce laugh out loud as his husband’s quirky request surprised him immensely. But of course he nodded, he had promised Viktor he would do anything, after all.
“Of course, Vitya. Anything for my partner.”
