Though Clark was always fascinating to watch, Lois had to admit she found him most fascinating when she was watching him rip some corrupt asshole to shreds. You could call her sadistic or cruel - and many people did - but there was something pleasing about watching someone get what they deserved.
Whenever she knew Clark would be heading an interview with someone controversial, someone whose serving of humble pie would be especially entertaining, she would always make sure she nabbed front row seats to their inevitable demise.
Today, his unsuspecting victim was a former cop who decided to give politics a try, basing his campaign on an anti-crime stance.
Clark never went into the interview showing his aggression outright. He knew how to play the bumbling idiot; had been doing it half his life. He’d fumble and drop his cue cards and laugh at his own failures. Never failed to get people laughing along with him. Clark would shake their hand and look at them like they were the most important and fascinating person he’d ever met.
And once they were nice and comfortable, they’d start the interview.
They’d start with simple questions. Innocuous questions. The sort of thing a politician or public figure would have answered a hundred times.
This time, Clark was asking the guy - Lois honestly didn’t remember his name, not that he was that important; just another guy trying to take advantage of the whims of the news cycle - about his family. They chatted for a few minutes about family values and Clark asked about the man’s children.
Once they started talking about Superman, the man let some of his bigotry slip. “Of course, it would be different, if Superman weren’t an American citizen.”
“What makes you think he is?” Clark asked. “Many Justice League members aren’t American citizens, and yet they still choose to help our country in times of dire need.”
The man scoffed. “They should stay in their own countries. I’m sure there are plenty of problems for them to solve back where they came from.” As he said that, he shot Lois a dirty look. “America should be for Americans.”
And yet here you are. Funny how you think you can claim a country you took from someone else.
Despite that thought, Lois smirked.
Clark was about to rip this man to shreds.
It was the slightest, almost imperceptive shift in posture, but all at once, Clark became more imposing. He put down his cue cards and looked the man right in the eyes, raising an eyebrow. “Is that so, Mr. Hill?”
So, that was his name…
Lois had thought it over a few times, and she’d came to the conclusion that her favourite part was watching the interviewee’s face fall, as they realised the bumbling country bumpkin was a lot more dangerous than he let on.
“Pardon?”
Clark smiled. “Let’s start the real interview, shall we?”
By the end of the interview, Mr. Hill was a wreck. Clark had found everything . Quite literally not a single stone was left unturned. He didn’t hold back any punches.
He never once lost that gentle smile, either.
Safe to say, Lois Lane would never get tired of watching Clark Kent in his element.
If only Superman had as much dedication to common corruption.
