Work Text:
Lucanis was enjoying a cup of coffee in the pantry when he heard the door of the dining hall open as someone walked in.
“You in here Lucanis?” Rook called out.
“I’m here Rook!”
He heard her hurry towards the pantry. “So I was visiting the Lords of Fortune and I got some new armor from then so I wanted to show it off!”
Lucanis had to chuckle, she was probably really excited about it if she was already talking before she was in the pantry.
He almost dropped his coffee cup as she walked in.
“Well?” she asked, spreading her arms and doing a quick turn out to really show off the outfit “What do you think?”
“It’s…nice. The feathers are nice.” Lucanis said slowly, doing his best to keep his attention on her face. Rook usually was very modest in her clothing choices and this armor showed more of her chest and stomach than what he was used to seeing, well, ever. Mierda, he was thinking like an innocent school boy that had never seen a woman naked before. Well, he hadn’t shared a bed with Rook yet and he was seeing places on her that he hadn’t seen before.
“Rook look nice,” said Spite. “Very nice.” Thankfully Spite hadn’t taken over their shared body to comment that.
“I’m deciding if I want to wear it out or not,” said Rook, clearly not sensing Lucanis’s current plight.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea. It’s very…exposed in parts,” said Lucanis. “There are many vital organs there,” He focused on a spot above Rook’s head. Perhaps it would be less tempting to let his eyes drop lower if he wasn’t looking directly at her.
“You think so?” Rook looked down. “I guess you’re right about that. Shame though since I did spend so much on it and Taash says it looks great.”
Lucanis wasn’t surprised Taash would. They probably were enjoying the view, which Lucanis was trying so hard to not look at right now.
“Can touch Rook?” asked Spite. Unlike Lucanis, Spite was clearing staring at her.
“No you cannot,” Lucanis said quickly. Noticing Rook’s confused stare he added, “Spite wanted to eat the candles again.”
Rook nodded in understanding. “Sorry Spite, eating candles will make Lucanis sick.”
“Why not tell Rook truth?” Spite stared at Lucanis in confusion.
This was not a conversation he wanted to have with Spite where Rook could overhear. Especially dressed like that. Lucanis cleared his throat. “I think I’ll go to Treviso to do some shopping. I need a few more ingredients for dinner.”
“I’ll come with!” she said cheerfully.
Mierda.
“Perhaps you should change first? Just in case we might run into some Venatori on the way?”
“Oh, good point. I’ll be right back then!”
Lucanis finally relaxed as Rook slipped out of the room. His fingers ached as gently put down the coffee cup he had been gripping through the whole conversation. “Now I understand those operas that have the lead getting excited for seeing an exposed ankle or leg.” He let out a long sigh.
“Could have touched Rook,” grumbled Spite.
“In the future perhaps,” replied Lucanis. He wasn’t sure their relationship was even at that point where he could broach that subject. Although he knew he wasn’t going to forget that mental image anytime soon. He hoped Rook hadn’t sensed anything amiss.
Well, for now he needed to come up with a shopping list of what to get in Treviso since he had to go to the market.
