Chapter Text
“Hurry up and get home.”
“I’m trying, Padfoot!” James hissed, hanging up the phone.
James was currently running across the roof of some of London’s tallest buildings, desperately trying to make it home in time for dinner.
How is he running on a roof?
Let’s go back to where it all started.
His name is James Potter. Bitten by a radioactive spider while exploring an abandoned school building with his friends.
And for a few weeks, he’s been the one and only Spider-man. (I think you know the rest.)
He had been in college for a few years so it wasn’t abnormal for the twenty year old to get home late. But today he was out at practically midnight.
He swung across the tip of a skyscraper as he came to rest on top of his apartment’s roof. He took his mask off, shoving it into the bag he had been using since the first year of college.
“Jesus.” He huffed, trying to catch his breath.
He walked through the fire escape and through the window of his room he was home. He quickly threw off his spidersuit and put on some comfortable clothes. A text from Sirius vibrated the phone in his pocket.
padfooty (twin):
did u seriously just come in through the window.
u r so weird
sorry xx
He opened the door to his room, noting the familiar scent of spaghetti in the air. “You cooked?”
Sirius turned to face James. “In fact I did. We have a guest.”
James raised an eyebrow and turned to see Regulus. It was almost a rare occurrence for Regulus to leave his apartment, he was nineteen and since Walburga paid for his college he got to live alone. (Not that the Black’s parents spoke to them anymore, anyway.)
Regulus had a camera in his messenger bag, gum, his phone and a few photos of Spiderman.
That made James’s heart race in a way. Did Regulus work for the DB?
Sirius noticed the confusion and spoke up; “Yeah, Reg works for the DB. Isn’t that right, our little overachiever?”
A scoff came from the raven haired boy as he looked up, “It’s an internship. Don’t treat it like it’s impressive.”
James felt his heart flutter as he looked into regulus’s eyes— he felt like a school girl speaking to her crush for the first time all over again.
He wasn’t usually like this, he was confident and cocky, but suddenly— he felt nervous and embarrassed, like he was 15 all over again.
James was impressed however, Regulus must be good.
“How are you, James?” James was snapped out of his thoughts hearing Regulus speak to him.
“I’m great, actually. I’ve been studying and taking finals at college recently so I’m basically busy every five seconds.”
Sirius snorted,
“You are. I haven’t been able to hang out with my favorite boy for like.. Two weeks.”
Remus raised an eyebrow, “As your boyfriend am I not your favorite boy?”
Sirius groaned, “You’re my boyfriend. The love of my life. Not just some twat.”
“Speaking of love lives..” Sirius turned to Regulus, who flipped him off. “There’s nothing going on with me.”
Sirius pouted, “Yet, you refuse to answer my texts!”
Regulus scoffs, “You broke into my apartment and snooped around!”
James held back a snicker as he made a bowl of pasta.

The group eventually huddled around a table together to play poker. James was surprised when Regulus was actually doing well.
“Damn, Regulus, are you secretly cool?”
Regulus hummed, hesitating before speaking for a second.
“Well, poker is just math, so I guess it depends on if you consider the mathematician, Carl Friedrich Gauss, cool.”
“I do not.”
Regulus rolled his eyes, as the clock struck one in the morning Regulus left. Almost like Cinderella.
James watched as Regulus left through the window. He knew Regulus would be safe, It’s not like the streets of London were totally horrible! It’s not like James saw people get mugged all the time- Right?
That didn’t last long.
Before he knew it he was on his way to Regulus’s flat, swinging across the buildings as he followed the shorter home.
He knew it was wrong, and that he should be beyond it.
But who really cares?
James’s spidey sense went off. He saw someone following Regulus. He saw the horrid look on their face, and how utterly eerie the situation was.
He swooped down, landing in front of Regulus who jumped back.
“What the-”
James smiled under the mask, “I’m gonna borrow you, okay?” Before he heard a protest he swooped Regulus into his arms and started swinging up into the air.
James could get used to this. The feeling of Regulus curled into his neck, holding onto him tightly as he swung around the tall glass buildings. He eventually landed on top of a skyscraper, putting Regulus down– He noticed the boy shivering. “Ah.. Sorry. Heights aren’t your thing?”
Regulus glared, his grey eyes almost glowing in the moonlight. “They really aren’t.”
James smirked, he acted like he was about to swing away– Causing Regulus to grab him and pull him close. “Don’t you dare!” He hissed, holding onto James’s suit like a lifeline.
“Sorry, R.B.” He sighs, running a hand through the boy’s curls.
Suddenly Regulus pulled away.
“R.B? How the hell do you know my initials?”
James blinked. Well. That was unfortunate.
“Name Tag.” He blurted out, pointing to the nametag from the DB on Regulus’s jacket. Regulus eased up.
“Oh, okay.”
There was silence.
“Can you please get me down now?”
James smiled, “Of course!”
So, he took Regulus home. Made sure his apartment was safe, and then left.
He got another text from Sirius on his way back to his own flat.
padfooty (twin):
stop sneaking out u ho.
James let out an exhausted groan.
“Why isn’t this working?”
Regulus muttered the words under his breath, it was seven in the morning and the melatonin gummies he chugged when he got home still hadn’t made a change to his state.
He couldn’t stop thinking about James Potter. He couldn’t stop thinking about the stupid tan skin, his stupid brunette hair. His gorgeous clean smile.
And then there was Spider-man.
Spider-man knows his name. He knows who Regulus is.
Regulus isn’t just blended in within the crowd. He had lived his whole life blending into the crowd. He turned over. Letting out a sigh as his curls twisted on the pillows.
“Shit!” He groaned into the pillows.
Another sleepless night.
He stood, making his way to the bathroom to shakily brush his teeth. As he was doing so the commotion of cars outside his flat made him pause for a second. He grabbed his camera to peep outside— A shit ton of traffic.
Of course.
Regulus wouldn’t be that lucky. Of course he wouldn’t catch a photo of Spiderman in action.
He wished he could. He was obsessed with the masked vigilante.
He threw on a clean pair of jeans, not bothering to fix his hair. He grabbed his keys and walked out of the apartment.
Maybe his luck would shift.
Maybe.
