Work Text:

The gentle rain outside the library window painted a peaceful picture, sharply contrasting with Loki’s tumultuous thoughts. His eyes bounced between Pansy’s and Thor’s, searching for something he couldn’t quite name.

“You know,” Loki mused, his eyes lingering on the warm mug of tea in his hand, “I have always found it fascinating how a simple touch can say so much more than words ever could.”

Pansy nodded, her gaze thoughtful. “Very true. It can be comforting and terrifying, revealing secrets and truths we might not be ready to face.”

Loki’s words hung in the air, hinting at something more profound than the philosophical banter Loki and Pansy often indulged in.

Thor, ever the listener, leaned back in his chair, his hand unconsciously brushing against Loki’s. The gesture was so familiar that it was almost invisible, yet it contained worlds of unspoken affection, which Loki needed.

“I’ve read that in some ancient texts, a soul mate is considered a reflection of one’s deepest self,” Loki began, breaking the comfortable silence.

Pansy’s eyes met his, and a spark of curiosity lit up her expression. “And what does that mean for us?” she asked softly, her voice gentle and prodding.

Thor leaned in, his interest piqued. The air grew thick with unspoken emotion as the three of them pondered fate and destiny’s mysteries.

The warmth from the mug seeped into Loki’s cold fingers, grounding him as he spoke. “Some say it’s a bond stronger than family, more enduring than time itself. A mirror to the soul that shows us who we truly are.”

Pansy’s hand reached out, her slender fingers wrapping around the handle of his mug. She placed his mug on the table next to him. “And what do you think, Loki?” she pressed, her eyes never leaving his.

The question hung between them, the tension palpable as the rain outside grew heavier, tapping a steady rhythm against the glass.

Pansy and Thor were very curious about his answer, as they had admitted to the change in their relationship months ago. They also knew how he felt; they just needed Loki to figure it out for himself, too.

Loki took a deep breath, the scent of the tea mingling with the musk of old books and the faint hint of magic that always seemed to follow him. “I think,” he said, his voice low and serious, “that if such a bond exists, we’ve found it.”

Pansy’s heart skipped a beat as Thor’s hand squeezed hers reassuringly. They shared a silent look of understanding before turning back to Loki.

The storm outside echoed the intensity of their conversation as lightning briefly illuminated the shadowed corners of the room. They were all aware of the weight of Loki’s words and their profound implications for their futures.

Finally, she took his hand in her free one. It seemed that he had come to the same decision they had. While she knew that both she and Thor didn’t necessarily need to hear him say it, she had a feeling that it was something that Loki needed. Her voice was a whisper, even in the sudden silence from outside as rain began to turn into snow. She asked again, “But what does that mean for us?”

Loki’s gaze grew intense as he contemplated the meaning of his own words. “It means that together, we can face whatever the Nine Realms throws at us,” he said firmly. “Our connection is not just a reflection of ourselves but a source of strength—a beacon in the dark.”

The fire crackled in response, casting flickering shadows across the room. For a moment, it felt as if the very fabric of reality was shifting around them.

“I never knew I needed this,” Loki admitted, his voice cracking slightly. “This… completeness.”

Thor’s grip tightened on Loki’s shoulder, his eyes shining with a mix of pride and love. “And nor did I,” he rumbled. “But I’m grateful for it.”

Pansy squeezed both of their hands as she looked from one god to the other. What had started as an accidental bonding as soul companions all those years ago had become something so much more.

It was a bond that could not be broken, a love that could not be denied.

It was a bond of soulmates.
