Chapter Text
Maya was on her daily route for her daily run. She would first get up, get prepared for her run then start on her route. Passed the coffee shop “That’s mile one” she thought. Passed the rec center “Mile number three let’s pick up the paste”. By mile seven she finally reached her destination, the place she dreaded but also the place she held most dear. She walked past the opening and past all the other graves until she reached two in particular. She knelt down and placed her hand on the first grave “I miss you so much” then on the second “I really wish I had more time with you bud”
When Maya was done at the cemetery she jogged back home and got ready for work. She showered and made her breakfast, plain oatmeal with strawberries and blueberries with a drizzle of honey and her protein shake. After she was on her way to work on the base. Maya is a Senior Master Sergeant in the U.S. Airforce and this was her life. Wake up, go on a run to the cemetery, then go to work. That’s all she had the strength for. When Maya arrived at work she went straight to her office, did some paperwork then went to address her unit. She was getting two new airmen today and she needed to get them ready.
…
“Face front” Maya said to her unit. “At ease” And the team relaxed “Ok everyone we have new airmen with us today or should I say airwoman and airman, fresh out of basic Travis Montgomery and Victoria Hughes please step forward.” So they did “We welcome you to our unit and we look forward to your contributions. Alright everyone get into formation Herrera is going to lead the drills today I have a meeting to get to” Maya said as she nodded to Herrera, her second in command. Andy led the drills and Maya went to her meeting.
“Senior Master have a seat” Chief Master Sergeant of the air force Lucas Ripley said. Maya walked in his office and sat at the chairs in front of his desk. “Chief, has something happened? Have we done something wrong?” Maya said. She’d never been in trouble with her superiors before, not even while she was at basic. What could she have done?
”You’ve done nothing wrong, there is just something that we need to discuss and it is very important” There was sincerity and firmness in his voice. “Ok something must really be wrong.” Maya thought to herself. “I’m deploying your unit on a mission” He said sternly. “Sir may I ask why this deployment is so different, usually I will get a letter or my first superior would tell me. Why are you telling me” Maya said. “This is not like your other deployments, you’ll be gone longer and this is an inside job so you can’t tell anyone” he said
“Sir maybe this isn’t the best time to go on that type of deployment I just got to new cadets and..” The chief raised his hand with a stern look on his face so Maya stopped talking. “This isn’t up for discussion Maya, you’re the only one I can trust and they aren’t cadets they are senior airmen. I brought them over to help you with this mission, you can trust them” He said with more grace than he did a few seconds ago.
Maya and Ripley had a special bond. He came to Maya’s high school when she was 16 and he saw her win in a track meet. Maya had stumbled and fell at the beginning of the race but she got right back up and blazed past all the other competitors. And won. When Ripley approached her, he said “Excuse me, I know you don’t know me but you should consider going into the military” Maya was stunned, who was this man and what was he talking about. She wondered if her dad made him approach her. “I’m sorry what” She said looking up at him. “I’m an Airman for the United States Air Force and I’m doing some recruiting and I think you would be a great fit” He said. “Why do you think I’d make a good fit, because I won the race after I tripped” Maya said questioning. “No not because you won the race even though you tripped but because you got up in the first place. Even though you messed up you kept your head. You were smart about it, I watched you, how many breaths you took they were calculated. You see Maya my job is to find recruits who are smart not just the ones who can fight, so if you’re interested here is my card. Have a nice day” Ripley walked off after handing Maya his card then Maya’s parents walked up to her.
“When are we being deployed?” Maya asked. “Two weeks, I’m gonna get you debriefed, make sure your mobility folder is in order and get your unit ready. Dismissed.” Maya nodded her head then got up to leave. “Maya” Ripley said in a calm voice. Maya turned and looked. “You should tell her and tell her you love her” He said with a sad face but tried to put on a smile. Maya just nodded and left his office to process.
…
It was the end of Maya’s day and she wanted to address her unit before they went home for the day. “Can everyone hold up for a second? Before you go I just wanted to let you know that two weeks from now we’ll be getting deployed. This is an inside mission so do not inform anyone about this. We’ll be gone for a while so please enjoy time with your families. Dismissed” Maya said then headed towards the exit. Jack and Herrera caught up to her before she could leave.
“Maya wait, what was that since when are we going on deployment out of the blue” Andy said “Yeah that doesn’t make any since” Jack chimed in. “Look, all I know is that this mission is very important and that we’re on our own on this one. I meant it when I said "spend time with your families or in other words spend time with each other in your guy’s case.” Maya said to them. “What about..” Andy started to say. “Yeah I know I gotta tell her” Maya said getting into her car.
Maya was on her way back to her place but she was hungry. She wanted to eat healthy but she really needed some comfort food while she had this hard conversation. She thought breakfast food was a good fit. So she stopped by her favorite diner and picked up some pancakes and French toast. She finally made it home and parked behind a car in the driveway. “You got this” She whispered to herself. Maya walked in the front door and took her hat off when she heard feet running towards the front door. Before she could do anything she dropped the food and her bag to catch a running very happy Carina. She held on tight to Carina’s back and Carina had her arms wrapped around Maya’s neck and her feet wrapped around her hip.
“I missed you so much bambina” Carina said. Maya chuckled a little. “Babe you were gone for a day, it was just a little conference” Maya said teasing her. “That doesn’t matter, I still missed you” Carina pouted as she pulled her head from Maya’s neck. “I know, I missed you too” Maya said then kissed Carina deeply. Carina moaned in Maya’s mouth then pulled back for air. She moved in close by Maya’s ear and nibbled the top of it. “I missed that too” Carina said in her bedroom voice.
Maya put Carina down and turned her and pushed her to the wall. Maya started to kiss Carina’s neck and started to unbutton Carina’s shirt. Carina took Maya’s head out of her neck and kissed her passionately, it was sloppy, both of their tongues fighting for dominance. Maya squeezed at Carina’s right boob softly. “Mmmm” Carina sighed. “How was work?” Carina asked before she kissed Maya’s neck. Maya slid her hand in Carina’s pants but not her underwear and pressed on her clit. Carina groaned and started to roll her hips. “Work is…work” Maya said, trying to focus on the task at hand.
“You're so wet for me already baby” Maya said then moved Carina’s panties to the side so she could play with her folds. “Bambina…I told you I missed you. Please don’t tease me, I want you to make me cum” Carina whimpered. Maya didn’t waste any time; she inserted two fingers through her folds and started to move in and out. Carina moaned Maya’s name and scratched at her back while they kissed. “You like that baby” Maya asked as she sped up her pace. “Yes Maya, keep going I’m so close” Carina breathed out. Maya pressed her palm on Carina’s clit and squeezed her nipple. She could feel Carina’s walls clench around her fingers and smiled. A pool of wetness dripped down her fingers as she took them out. Maya brought them to her mouth and cleaned them off. Then kissed a post state Carina.
“I missed this too” Maya said, caressing Carina’s cheek. “You didn’t answer my question before” Carina said, looking up at Maya. She could feel Maya tense up in her arms. “ Bella, did something happen at work?” Carina said softly. Maya sighed and took Carina’s hand and led her to the couch in the living room. They turned to face each other and Maya placed her hand on Carina’s thigh. “What’s wrong Maya” Carina said, lifting Maya’s chin so she would look at her. “My unit is being deployed” Maya said in a whisper. Carina was stunned. “What do you mean you’re being deployed and why out of the blue I don’t understand” Carina asked, a little annoyance in her voice. “Ripley and I had a meeting today and he said we had to go on this mission, he said..” Maya paused for a second but Carina nudged her to keep going “He said that we’d be gone for a long while” Maya could feel Carina slipping out of her grip to stand up.
She began to pace back and forth. “But why does it have to be your unit?” Carina said in a high pitch. “Because he believes that one of our bases has been compromised with a mole and he only trusts me to fish them out” Maya stood up from the couch and went to stand in front of Carina. Maya grabbed her hips to keep her from pacing. “Baby listen..” Maya tried to finish. “When do you leave?” Carina asked cutting Maya off. Maya squeezed Carina tighter. “In two weeks” Carina pulled away. “MAYA, COMO PUOI ESSERE D’ACCORDO CON QUESTO?” Carina yelled while her hands moved from place to place.
Maya tried to reach for her but Carina wouldn’t let her. “Carina of course I’m not just ok with this but what choice do I have? I have responsibilities. I can't just not honor them because you don’t want me to. Everything isn’t always about you” Maya regretted saying that last part. Carina stopped in her tracks and looked at Maya. A tear fell from her eye that she quickly wiped away. “Baby I’m sorry I didn’t mean that I…” “You can do whatever you want Maya don’t let me hold you back from your commitments, but just remember you made a commitment to me when we got married so honor that too” Carina said then walked to their bedroom and slammed the door.
…
Maya knew Carina wouldn’t take this so well but she never expected her to be so mad about it. She wondered if she should sleep in the guest room. She could see Carina needed some time to cool off so she decided to go for a run. Passed the coffee shop “That’s mile one” she thought. Passed the rec center “Mile number three let’s pick up the paste” By mile seven she finally reached her destination. She stood in front of the first grave. “I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. I mean she knows I can’t just turn down deployment, it doesn’t work like that” Maya spoke towards the grave.
“I wish you were here to tell me what to do, you’d probably say stop fighting with your wife when you only have two weeks together. That it’s ok for her to be upset and she probably was just in shock” Maya said out loud to no one but herself. She then moved in front of the other grave. “Your mama’s right bud, I should go home and enjoy the time I got right bud” Maya spent a few more minutes at the cemetery then she walked home. When she walked through the front door she heard the water running in their bedroom bathroom. Carina was making herself a bath.
Maya walked in the room then knocked on the open bathroom door. “Can I join you?” Maya said with a small smile. Carina looked up and just nodded with a small smile. So Maya stripped down her clothes and threw them in the washing hamper. And joined Carina when the bath was ready. Maya was laid against the tub with Carina’s back laying against her front. Maya wrapped Carina in her arms. “Carina I’m sorry about before. I was just a little upset and I didn’t mean what I said. My whole life revolves around you, you are my world” Maya said, kissing the top of Carina’s head.
“And you’re mine bambina” Carina said, bringing Maya’s hand up to her lips to kiss her wedding band. “I’m sorry too. I know you’re processing too and I should’ve been more understanding. I know you would stay if you could” Carina said sincerely. “I would so love to stay baby but I can’t so can we please enjoy these two weeks?” “I would like that” Carina said as she relaxed more in Maya’s arms.
After a nice bath they got ready for bed. This time Carina was the big spoon. Her arm was draped over Maya’s side and Maya’s back was pressed as far back into Carina as she could go. “Maya, where did you go when you left earlier?” Carina asked, sleep was catching up to her. “Um I just went on a run” Maya said nonchalantly. “A run where?” Carina asked again. “It was nowhere in particular I just went where my feet took me” Maya didn’t want to lie but she wasn’t ready to tell her yet. “Ok, try to get some sleep and we can plan something fun to do tomorrow, I don’t have to teach any classes tomorrow so I thought maybe we could have a date night” Carina said, dozing off. “Sure we can do whatever you want, now go to sleep babe I love you” Maya said then she turned around to Carina’s front and held her close. “ Ti amo bambina” Carina said, then kissed her forehead.
