"Ma'am you don't understand, this isn't what it looks like." Percy said as he raised his hands, glad he had already put riptide back in his pocket.
"Step away from the fence young man," the policewoman ordered with a severe face.
But before Percy could say anything else a strong hand gripped his shoulder, "there you are Percy!" A deep male voice said making both Percy and the policewoman turn, "I was wondering where you walked off to."
Hyacinthus gave him a warm smile that embarrassingly still made his heart race a little. Stupid Gods and their stupidly attractive faces, why can't they be more like Mr D and choose to be unattractive, there'd be less kids to worry about and less problems to deal with. But noooo they just have to chose to look so stupidly attractive and perfect.
Percy groaned internally, I miss Annabeth, he thought and then got lost in thoughts of his wonderful girlfriend, the way her eyes lit up when talking about architecture or the way her hair shined in the light, it wasn't like he needed-
Wait.
Oh shit.
He was meant to reply.
"Hyacinthus!" Percy replied with a way too wide smile, "sorry man, I thought I saw something over here, didn't mean to walk too far."
Hyacinthus laughed and the world seemed to brighten at the noise. Actually it was brighter. And warmer. And now it was way too warm.
Oi Apollo, Percy prayed, we get it you love your husband but get it together, the temperature is getting uncomfortable.
A barely there huff at his ear everything went back to normal. Hyacinthus' smile deepened and his purple eyes twinkled at the knowledge of what Percy had done.
"Who's your friend?" Hyacinthus asked and turned the full force of his attractive smile towards the policewoman who went a little pink in the face.
"Just an officer that got a bit worried with how close I got to the fence, but Hyacinthus, I thought I saw a dog" Percy stressed the word hopping the god understood his meaning and felt relieved when Hyacinthus' hand clenched on his shoulder, "wonder in. You know how I love dogs and I just wanted to make sure it was ok."
"I'm sorry ma'am," Hyacinthus said to the policewoman with a slight shake of his head, "it runs in the family I feel, Percy is just like my husband, his older cousin you see. They both absolutely love dogs I'm afraid, and this is absolutely not out of the ordinary of what they'd do."
The policewoman sighed, "a dog you say?"
Percy and Hyacinthus both gave words of agreement.
She looked back at the fenced off site, "do you think it's still there or did you see it get out?"
"Oh," Percy said fiddling with his sword now pen in his pocket, thankful that gold monster dust disappeared quickly, "it got out, I saw it run off somewhere else."
She sighed again, "alright, but be careful next time, don't get too close to dangerous sites again, they're closed off for a reason. And if you believe you saw a stray dog get inside then please alert appropriate authorities like city animal catchers or the police, like me, who are trained to deal with situations like this."
"Understood ma'am," Percy said and gave another too wide smile, "I'll definitely alert someone if it happens again."
The policewoman raised an eyebrow staring down Percy before turning her gaze to Hyacinthus.
"I'll make sure of it ma'am," Hyacinthus replied to her unspoken question with another smile, "I'll even tell my husband, they're very close you know, Percy practically looks up to him." He gave a light laugh.
Percy gave a strained laugh in response and has never wanted to kick someone more.
