Work Text:

He makes it to the apartment without issue, sliding the key into the lock and letting out a breath of relief as it unlocks, stepping inside with a quick glance, he locks the door behind himself and looks around the barebones apartment, all there is is a twin size bed and a small desk and chair underneath the window, reminding him a little of his college dorm.

Stepping over towards the bed, he sits down on it, resting his elbows on his knees and his face in his hands as he groans into them.

After a minute of loud groaning to decompress from the day he’s had, he sighs, dropping his hands and looking out the window at the dark sky, about 2 stories up, and kicks off his shoes, them landing somewhere around the room.

Eh, future Yuji’s problem, or, further future Yuji’s problem.  He’s not the greatest at remembering all the lingo that comes with time travel, sue him.

He sighs, flopping backward onto the bed and wrapping himself in the slightly dusty blanket, but decides to ignore that as well, closing his eyes and letting the exhaustion from the day wash over him.

He wakes up, very aware that someone is staring at him, and so he stays still, trying to figure out who’s creeping on him while also not making it known he’s awake.

“I know you’re awake!”

Fuck.

He jolts, hopping out of bed and getting in a combat stance, pausing as he sees the person who’s watching him.

“Hey…  Gojo…  No hard feelings?”

He winces as he sees Gojo’s jaw clench, his smile becoming more forced.

“Is that a uh…  a no..?”

Gojo pinches the bridge of his nose through his blindfold, breathing deeply,  “Who are you?”

Yuji sighs quietly, dropping his fighting stance fully now that he’s pretty sure Gojo won't attack him for now, probably.

“Question of the decade huh?  Okay well probably not but it's pretty up there, top 20 at least.”  At Gojo’s unimpressed stare, he sighs again, running a hand through his hair, trying to remember the shitty cover story he made up yesterday.

“Jin Itadori, Yuji’s uncle, once I heard Dad died I rushed to finish all my business in Canada to get over here to take care of the kid.”  He’s proud of how confident that came out, unluckily however.

“Bullshit, Yuji has no uncle, and his father’s name, who is dead by the way, was Jin.”  Gojo leans forward, threateningly pressing Infinity against Yuji, who rolls his eyes,  “Now are you gonna tell me the truth, or am I gonna have to rip it out of you?”

Yuji sighs deeply, holding his hands up in mock surrender, “Fine, you got me Gojo, I’m from the future and I’m Yuji.”  He raises an eyebrow, staring at Gojo’s eyes through the black blindfold, silently challenging him.

Gojo stares quietly for a moment, before reaching up and tugging his blindfold down, his blue eyes gleaming as he scans him over, really scans him over, and doesn’t just try to analyze for weaknesses like in their fight yesterday.

After another moment, he steps back, face full of confusion and shock, and with this, Yuji knows that Gojo knows he’s right.

“Yeah I'm not happy about being back, I just wanna get back, but I don't even know how I got here in the first place.”  Frustration bleeds into his words.

Gojo stares blankly at him, before blindly reaching behind him and grabbing the chair and pulling it underneath him for him to sit, “So, that’s how you beat me?  Because you knew how I’d fight?”

Yuji stares at him, unimpressed, “That’s not exactly what matters here right now Sensei, also it was because my domain was an open one and it overwhelmed you, and I know, vaguely at least, how to get past the six eyes.”  He rolls his neck out, wincing as it cracks,  “Back on track now, I need your help to get me back,” He grins slightly, eyes gleaming, “Back to the future.”

Gojo stares at him, then chuckles quietly under his breath, “Like the movie yeah, clever.”  Yuji grins wider, and nods, “Like the movie.”

Gojo chuckles, shaking his head, and reaches into his pocket, pausing for a moment as he digs around in it, then his other one, Yuji staring at him confused before coming to a realization, sheepishly grabbing Gojo’s phone from his pocket and handing it over.

“Sorry, had to call Shoko somehow.”

Gojo nods, grabbing the phone back and checking the time and any notifications, then sliding it into his pocket, looking more serious.

“Okay Yuji, do you know how you got here.”  Yuji hums quietly, leaning back and putting a hand on his chin, before shaking his head after a moment, “I don’t know, there was no light, no flashing, one moment I was in my apartment making some coffee, the next,” He turns to glare lightly at Gojo, “And the next moment there was a Hollow Purple ready to kill me to death.”

Gojo doesn't even have the audacity to look concerned, just shrugging, “Not like I knew you were there, ‘sides, you lived yeah?”  Yuji looks at him blankly, then sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“Sure, whatever, back on topic, no clue how I got here and no clue how to get back.”

Gojo hums, putting a hand on his chin, “Well, do you really need to get back?  We can polish up your story, and put you here as a new teacher!”

Yuji blinks, staring at him with disbelief, mouth opening, and closing, “Y-You’re kiddin’ right?”  At Gojo’s grin and silence, Yuji’s face pales, “Y-You’re not kidding are you?”

“Nope!”  He claps, standing up and slipping the blindfold back on, stepping over to Yuji and slinging an arm around his shoulder,  “What would be so wrong with that?  You can pass your knowledge onto your younger self!”

Yuji glares, jaw clenching as he speaks, “Besides the fact that it would be a paradox or something, and my time is very important to me.”

Gojo hums, putting a hand on his chin as he looks at Yuji, then shrugs, stepping back with a wide grin on his face, “Alright~  Just don’t get upset when you can’t get back~”

Yuji rolls his eyes, not giving a response as Gojo leaves, the door clicking shut behind him.

Standing up, he stretches, wincing as his back cracks, and steps over to the window, cracking it open and leaning out, looking over the forest the window faces, chewing on his lip nervously as he thinks of how he got here, only getting more worried as he comes up flat.

Then he thinks of Megumi, getting more worried as he’s probably freaking out at the lack of Yuji.

His shoe starts to ring, some random pop song he doesn't remember hearing before.

What?

He turns around, confused, and follows the ringing to one of his shoes he tossed off yesterday, reaching into a hidden pocket and snagging out his phone, battered and beaten, with no one to call him in the past, and looks at the caller ID.

Megumi.

What the fuck?
