Chapter 1: making plans

Chapter Text

Today has already been a shit show.

From the moment Katsuki woke up, he knew it was just going to go downhill from there because he and Meylin got into it again over him going to the gym so early in the morning. Yet again, his boyfriend decided to accuse him of trying to cheat.

It’s the same shit every single time, all because Katsuki goes to the gym. He stopped running because Meylin didn’t fuckin’ like when he ran since he liked to run at night before bed. So, he refuses to stop going to the gym in the mornings.

As he sits through his last lecture of class, grumbling under his breath at the re-do of the notes from two days ago, he hears the whispers. Whenever he and his boyfriend fight, the whispers start up again.

Every. Single. Time.

Meylin just can’t stop running his fucking mouth all over campus to make Katsuki look like the bad guy.

But when a note falls onto his notebook, he knows it’s so much worse than that.

There’s a lot of writing on the note but two that really stick out with how much they sting.

Did you hear what he’s been saying? I heard that he said, "He’s just a pretty boy, ya know?”

Yeah? I heard that he’d said, “Who wouldn’t want a pretty boy to tide the time before the real marriage partner comes around?”

As soon as the professor dismisses them, Katsuki is leaving, note crumpled in his hand as he balls it into a fist. When he finally gets around the UA commons building, thinking he’d escaped the mess, he sees two guys walking towards him and pointing while whispering to each other.

Only their voices get louder now that he’s right there and heading towards them too.

"Did you hear what Meylin said in class?”

“I did. I can’t believe Bakugou really ignores Meylin for the gym!”

“He apparently isn’t even that active, so it’s really suspicious. I’m beginning to believe that Meylin might be right that Bakugou is acting like a girl typing to impress a guy they like instead of being loyal to his boyfriend.”

“According to Meylin, it’s all Kirishima’s fault. That must be who he’s trying to impress, but Kirishima’s taken. Meylin also said that Kirishima is taking all of Katsuki’s attention and making him lie. Are they both cheating?”

“I don’t know about that, just because they’re both insanely loyal. However, Meylinapparently has a plan to get rid of Kirishima. I hope it fails because then maybe Meylin will drop Bakugou and get with me! It’ll be easy to steal Meylin if Bakugou keeps Kirishima around!”

Katsuki glares at them outright before shoving between them and knocking their shoulders with his own as he sneers, “If you want Meylin, you can have him, but you’ll be living in the shadow of the one he can’t have.”

Their mouths snapped shut, and he didn’t wait to see if they could come up with a response before he jogs over to an empty bench. He pulled out his phone and saw that Eijirou was still in class, so he pulled up his messages with Hitoshi instead.

Kats: Can you come get me and fuckin’ help me move out of my shitty apartment?

Toshi: Yeah, be there in ten.

Kats: Thanks.

Katsuki has to move to a different bench, picking one where he can actually see the parking lot that Hitoshi will come to, and then he just waits. He doesn’t bother plugging his headphones in because people are moving so quickly that he knows there’s not going to be as much chatter right now.

When Hitoshi pulls up, he doesn’t even honk, just sends him a text and opens the passenger door for him without getting out of the truck. Katsuki ignores the people that are giving him looks, some familiar from his classes that had definitely been talking, and he climbs into the truck and shuts the door.

“What happened?” asks Hitoshi softly as he gets them moving out of the parking lot and towards the campus apartments.

“Bullshit rumors as usual. I’m sure Shitty Hair will tell your ass all about it later.” grumbles Katsuki as he forces his eyes to stay on the window rather than the other man.

He knows exactly what’s coming next, and his only regret is that his friendships are going to get caught in the crossfire. But at least he will finally be done with his ex.

“So, the bastard is spewing more shit that isn’t true and attempting to shatter your friendship with Ei?” asks Hitoshi in this tone of barely contained anger that has Katsuki shivering as he chances a glance over to see those long fingers gripping the steering wheel like it’s the only thing stopping him from turning around.

Katsuki knows from personal experience that it definitely is.

“Don’t worry about it. As soon as I’m moved out, that’s over, and there’s not going to be anymore bullshit about Shitty Hair.” says Katsuki as Hitoshi pulls them through the apartment complex’s gates.

“You say that, but the tone of your voice saying something else is going to happen too.” Hitoshi points it out as he parks, and as soon as the doors unlock, Katsuki is climbing out without responding. “Ignoring it just says that I’m right, Kats!”

“Shut the fuck up and come help me! I only have like three suitcases and a few duffle bags!” calls Katsuki with an eye roll as he heads into the building and towards the stairs.

It takes them about half an hour to get everything taken down to the truck, mostly because of Hitoshi’s running commentary on how horrible Meylin’s decorating skills are. Katsuki wasn’t allowed to decorate their apartment outside of his own room, and it definitely shows.

Katsuki leaves his apartment key on the coffee table and sends a message to Meylin, “I’m done. We’re over. I’m not going to keep hearing this bullshit around campus that I know you fucking said and letting you shrug the shit off when I ask you about it. Consider yourself single.”

He knows that his phone is going to absolutely blow up all night, so he just mutes Meylin’s messages and leaves it alone. He’ll deal with it when he needs to, but for now, he heads out of the building and to the truck where Hitoshi is waiting and clearly talking on the phone. He slows and tilts his head, but Hitoshi waves him in.

“-that jerk is always hurting Katsuki for such stupid reasons! Everyone knows that he goes to the fucking gym because he does work-out sessions with his dad! It’s personal, but everyone who Katsuki trusts fuckin’ knows that!”

“Woah, it looks like Troll Doll might be rubbing off on you, Shitty Hair. That was a lot of swear words.” chuckles Katsuki as he shuts the door and cuts off what appears to be a long-winded rant session from Eijirou.

“I dunno, I think you might have me beat on that, blasty.” snorts Hitoshi as Eijirou whines into the phone.

“You two are so mean! This is not manly to gang up on me!” huffs Eijirou, but his tone is so amused that Katsuki just shares a grin with Hitoshi.

“Shitty Hair, breathe. That asshole knows why I go to the gym, but we got into a fight. You know how he is but forget it. I ended it by text, so he can rant even more about what an asshole I am, and it’s done.” says Katsuki softly because he wants to reassure his friend a little bit, even if there’s not much reassuring that he can do when it comes to this situation.

“He’s still a jerk, and if he blames you for this, I’m gonna punch him in the face. But I’ll drop it for now.” sighs Eijirou into the phone, sounding really put out that he can’t be angry anymore, but then he lets out a strangled noise of excitement. “Wait! This means sleepovers with Kats! We get to do a movie night tonight!”

“I dunno if we can do a movie night.” says Hitoshi, but he’s tilting his head like he’s thinking about it, considering it.

“Not happening. You both have early classes tomorrow, and I’m not dealing with you two being up past eleven tonight.” Katsuki shuts it down immediately, but for once, he doesn’t offer another time to do it because he doesn’t think he’ll be able to.

“Maybe tomorrow then? None of us have early classes on Friday, so that should work, right?” asks Hitoshi consideringly, like he’s trying to check his mental calendar to make sure he’s not wrong.

“Sounds perfect!” exclaims Eijirou excitedly.

“Sure, maybe.” Katsuki tries to keep it non-committal, but he knows he fails.

“Oh, sweetheart, when are you gonna be home today?” asks Hitoshi as he starts the car and shifts it into gear.

“In like an hour? I gotta do some runs for Fat, but then we’re both calling it a day! Oh, right, I gotta go. Talk to you both in an hour, love you!” calls Eijirou loudly through the phone before the line goes dead.

“He always does that.” mutters Hitoshi with an amused eye roll as he gets them out of the parking lot.

“Yeah, I know, I’ve heard a similar response.” snorts Katsuki as his heart pounds in his ears.

Eijirou didn’t specify who he loves, and Katsuki knows he’s said it to him before as friends, but this was not the time to hear it again.

Look, his ex isn’t wrong about his feelings for Eijirou and Hitoshi, but that’s also why he’s not staying longer than tonight with these two. He knows what’s coming.

“-shouldn’t- are you listening? Hey, Katsuki? You okay?” Hitoshi’s voice knocks him harshly out of his thoughts, and Katsuki blinks harshly twice.

“Sorry, I- I dunno- fuckin’ zoned out, I guess.” mutters Katsuki as he sees that they’ve reached Hitoshi and Eijirou’s off-campus apartment.

“No stress, I was just saying you shouldn’t force yourself to interact right now if you don’t want to. I’ll keep Ei distracted, after dinner, if you want time alone to deal with all of this. But I won’t keep him, or myself, from at least checking on you a few times throughout the night.” explains Hitoshi easily, even though his voice definitely comes around like a threat as he moves past telling Katsuki to take space if he needs it.

“Fuckin’ thanks or whatever. I’m definitely going to be hiding out in the room, but only because I’m pretty sure dickweed will blow my phone up soon. I muted him, but I know how it works, when one doesn’t work, he moves onto a different one.” says Katsuki with a defeated sigh because he really has no chance of ignoring Meylin as much as he’d like to. He can mute his messages, block him online, but once Meylin realizes he’s being ignored and blocked, he’ll find another way to come after him. He’s used his own friend’s phones to message and call and harass Katsuki before after a fight, so Katsuki’s expecting something worse with the break-up. “So, yeah, I’ll hide out, make dinner, then hide out some more.”

“You know that hiding out before dinner means I’m not going to stop Ei, right?” asks Hitoshi with an arched brow as they climb out of the truck.

“Yeah, I know. I’ll handle Ei for that, and you can handle him after I make dinner. I just need tonight, and then I’ll- I’ll be fine.” replies Katsuki with a shrug as he moves to grab his bags out of the truck bed.

He only lets Hitoshi take one bag and the suitcase, and only after Hitoshi sneaks them out of his reach on purpose.

“Yeah, you have fun with that. Ei has a whole break-up plan thing for each of his friends, and I happen to know that yours involves not letting you be alone.” snorts Hitoshi before he leads the way into the apartment building that Katsuki hasn’t visited often enough.

“Yeah, I know. I’ve had to deal with it once, and I told him to fuckin’ delete the one for me because he pissed me off.” huffs Katsuki as they move up the stairs to one landing and walk down a long hallway. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he still came after me though, especially if he hasn’t gotten rid of mine.”

“He definitely kept yours, but it was modified some. Not enough to relieve you though because his main bullet point is bolded. No letting Katsuki hide.” replies Hitoshi with a snort as he stops in front of a door that has a red paper covering what should be a peep hole.

“He really put a paper up to cover the peephole? That wasn’t here when I came over three weeks ago.” mutters Katsuki as he ignores what Hitoshi said, not caring about the bullet point because he knows Eijirou will end up leaving him alone when he tells him to.

Eijirou won’t actually disregard his want for some alone time, but he will deny his want for silence. Katsuki knows he’s going to be irritated in less than ten minutes because Eijirou will do his damn best to be loud until Katsuki leaves the room to tell him to shut up. It’s how Eijirou gets him to talk when he’s too irritated to do more than blare music in his ears, and it only lasts for ten minutes before Katsuki escapes it.

“Yeah, he put that up this morning when the other one got taken down by our neighbor. He’s a real bastard.” grumbles Hitoshi as he unlocks the door and lets Katsuki go first. He snorts when Katsuki grunts at the sheet hanging down and blocking the rest of the little hallway and the apartment. “Sorry, we hung that up because that neighbor figured out a way to reverse the peephole. He’s a creepy bastard, and he’s interested in us, apparently? I don’t know, but Eijirou has tried nice, and refuses to let me blast his ass.”

“So, go behind Ei’s back and tell Zawa. It would fix the mess, and Zawa won’t tell Ei or the creepy bastard that you told him about it.” replies Katsuki with a matter-of-fact tone and wondering how Hitoshi hadn’t made that move yet.

“Shit, why didn’t I think of that?” asks Hitoshi under his breath, sounding irritated with himself before a knock sounds on the door.

“Are you cheating on our lovely Eijirou, young man? I don’t think you know how easily I can sweep that baby boy into my arms. Cheating on our baby, how could you?” comes a voice that makes Katsuki gag before he drops his stuff and slips past Hitoshi.

When Katsuki tugs the door open, he forces the older man back, glaring into grey eyes, and he sneers, “If you don’t stay the fuck away from my friend and his boyfriend, I will knock your ugly, old ass down those motherfuckin’ stairs right there. You will crumble into a heap on the floor, and nobody will help your creepy ass out. They don’t fuckin’ want you, they don’t fuckin’ like you, and they never fuckin’ will. Now, if you don’t want me to call the cops on your stalking ass, I suggest you get back into your fucking apartment and stop touching shit that doesn’t belong to you.”

“Well, now I would never-” the man puts a dramatic hand on his chest and looks so horrified by the accusation.

“You would never? You just fuckin’ claimed that Eijirou was yours, which he fucking isn’t by the fucking way. Never will be, and even if you were about oh, ten years younger, he wouldn’t be. That red paper in your hand, it belongs to Hitoshi here, not you, and yet you fuckin’ stole it off the peephole to look through it and start a mess that you don’t fuckin’ want. I’m here, ya rat bastard, and I will gladly kick your ass, right here and right now.” sneers Katsuki as he stabs his finger into the older man’s chest, glaring harshly at him before his eyes lock on what looks like a magnifying glass that has something silver within it, and he takes it. “This is going bye-bye, and if you make another one and give them trouble, I’ll get you kicked out of this apartment so fast your fucking head will spin.”

Katsuki turns and goes back into Eijirou and Hitoshi’s apartment, slamming the door harshly enough that the frame rattles, and then he stares at the weird ass tool the man had made.

“Eijirou is going to be so pissed that you did that, but I have to say, nicely done, Blasty.” says Hitoshi, sounding almost in awe as he speaks, but Katsuki just looks at what’s in his hands because he knows Hitoshi’s just grateful that someone said something to the douchebag. “Hey, Blasty? I’ll call Aizawa have the situation handled myself, but why are you so distracted by that thing?”

“Because I’ve seen it before.” mutters Katsuki as his brows furrow, and then he whips out his phone and starts searching through his photos as a bad feeling lands in his stomach.

“You’ve seen it before? What’re you talking about?” asks Hitoshi as he walks over and looks over his shoulder.

“Exactly what I said, I’ve seen it before. Unfortunately, I’m pretty fuckin’ sure I know where I saw it at too.” sighs Katsuki as he swaps from the photos to his albums and finds the Meylin’s Creepy Shit album. It takes maybe one minute of scrolling to find it, and then he finds the screenshots of the messages from when he asked Meylin about it. “Fuckin’ course it was that bastard, and now it all makes sense too.”

“Woah, Meylin did this? Why? And why does he mention us?” asks Hitoshi as he stares with wide eyes at Katsuki’s phone.

“Same reason he brings Eijirou up in all the fuckin’ rumors, he’s a douchebag who claims that I’m going to cheat on him. He wanted to cause drama, and considering neither of you brought this shit up with me, he’s fuckin’ started it.” huffs Katsuki as he clicks his phone off and slips it back into his pocket, crossing his arms over his chest as he narrows his eyes at Hitoshi. “If I had known you were getting shit from a stalkery bastard, I would’ve already stepped the fuck in. If you don’t call Zawa tonight, I’m calling him tomorrow.”

“Eijirou didn’t want to bother anyone until he ran out of ideas to thwart the dude’s actions. Besides, it only started this month, literally. We hadn’t even noticed the guy until the first, and from then on, he’s been nothing but a nuisance.” explains Hitoshi seriously as he tries to reassure Katsuki that they weren’t trying to hide things on purpose because they clearly weren’t. “We use the fire escape to sneak out because the guy’s window is all boarded up. He doesn’t like windows, apparently there was a break-in at his old place through his window, and now he always boards up his windows. But, as for Aizawa, I will call him right after I get you moved into your room.”

“Just call him now, or you won’t call at all because Shitty Hair should be here soon.” huffs Katsuki as he grabs his shit, adjusts his suitcase to hold two of his duffle bags, and pushes his way past the sheet carefully. “I can set myself up, and then I’ll figure out dinner.”

“We don’t have much because grocery day is tomorrow, but we should have something to appease your cooking needs!” calls Hitoshi as Katsuki reaches the door to the guest room.

Katsuki shuts the door as soon as he’s inside the guest room, but he doesn’t bother unpacking. He knows he’s not going to be staying here as long as he’d initially intended. He saw those messages waiting for him, and he knows Meylin is going to make sure that Katsuki’s friendship is destroyed.

Might as well give him the opportunity to make it happen.

He can’t hide these shitty feelings any longer anyway, so why not let Meylin out him and then confirm it before they have to leave?

One message keeps appearing in his mind, unstoppably.

MeyMey: They will never want you, never, and how could they? You’re nothing. Just a bastard who only cares about himself. Even if they were into poly, you wouldn’t even be a thought.

He wants to type back, itching to respond how he’s the one who wants someone who’s getting married in like a month, but he doesn’t. He won’t give Meylin a response, not tonight.

Katsuki takes a breath before he puts his bags by the bed before turning around and leaving the room again.

“-know I should’ve said something, but it only just started at the beginning of the month. We’re barely three weeks in! It’s not like that!” Hitoshi sounds both annoyed and amused, so Katsuki just waltzes into the kitchen rather than stealing the phone to tell Aizawa to just handle it.

Katsuki searches through the fridge, freezer, and the cabinets to figure out what he can make for dinner that the other two will enjoy because he needs to repay them for helping him out tonight. He sees more than enough to make a good breakfast for them in the morning, pancakes, sausages for Hitoshi, rice, and some bacon for Eijirou. That’s good enough for breakfast, but for dinner, all he’s seeing is some sushi or a soup. Neither of them are soup fans unless they’re sick, so maybe he should make them sushi and make himself a bowl of soup.

“-said it’s Meylin’s contraption, actually.” Hitoshi’s voice reaches him again, and Katsuki snaps back into focus as he turns to find Hitoshi walking into the kitchen and looking at him with worry in his purple eyes.

“I’m fuckin’ fine, stop staring.” mutters Katsuki before he starts pulling stuff out for soup and sushi.

Neither of them will take that long, but he’s used to eating an early dinner and calling it a night at eight. So, while he’s gonna make ‘em enough to eat later if they want to, he’s going to start dinner now.

“Thanks, Zawa, appreciate it.” says Hitoshi softly before there’s nothing but silence again.

“I’m making you dumbasses sushi, and I’m gonna have some soup.” says Katsuki to fill the silence for a moment, that way Hitoshi can at least tell Eijirou what the dinner plan is for tonight.

“Sounds great, Katsuki, thank you. And Zawa says he wants to talk to you tomorrow about the picture and the messages as well as your relationship. He’s worried.” says Hitoshi softly while walking past Katsuki to get into the fridge, only to pull out an energy drink.

“You have to stop drinking that shit.” mutters Katsuki with an eye roll, not responding to the Aizawa part because he knows the sleepy man is worried.

Aizawa was their shared academic advisor before Katsuki swapped to Best Jeanist for Fashion Design because of his parents. He’d initially been under the business and law sectors, which left him under Aizawa, but he put those as minors and moved to Fashion design before the end of his first year. Thus, he left Aizawa, though he still speaks to the man often enough as he is still trying to get those two degrees as well. He’s been taking night classes to make it happen, that way he will graduate with three degrees, and three opportunities to help his parents and himself in the future.

When the prep is finished, and he’s starting to get things heated on the stove, he hears the door burst open and a breathless Eijirou announces, “My favorites, I’m home!”

Katsuki snorts and shakes his head because he knows there’s no way he’s considered a favorite, so he’s assuming it has to do with Hitoshi somehow. But then he’s being side-tackled into a hug, barely refraining from messing up dinner as Eijirou squeezes him.

“Come on, dumbass, I’m making dinner.” huffs Katsuki as Eijirou squeezes him again before letting him go with a wide grin. “Go annoy your boyfriend and leave me alone, shitty hair.”

“No can do, favorite, I have to annoy you for a while because my other favorite is studying for a test right now, and I’m not getting swatted with a book again because I wanted a kiss.” replies Eijirou brightly before he hops himself onto the counter on the opposite side of the stove so he’s out of the way of Katsuki and his ingredients. “So, sushi and soup, huh? You know we could’ve ordered take-out, right?”

“Yeah, but I cook better than those asshats do. So, unless you’d rather have take-out than my food, I suggest you shuddup about the food and start jabbering about something else.” says Katsuki as he points his soup spoon at him threateningly because everyone knows he can hurt a person with a spoon too.

Hanta learned that the hard way when he tried to sneak a spoon of soup at a squad night where Denki needed soup instead of actual food because of his throat. He still has the scars from Katsuki’s attack.

“I don’t need spoon scars, thank you very much. Please put it down.” says Eijirou sagely as he holds his hands up and backs up until he’s back against the counter. When Katsuki turns back to their dinners, Eijirou decides to speak again. “So, Hitoshi told me what you did to the weirdo next door, and he has more to tell me later. I’m sorry you had to deal with all that, and I’m sorry we didn’t tell you about it sooner. I just- I didn’t want to fight with our neighbor until being nice really didn’t work, and it kinda seemed like it was working until a couple days ago.”

“I’ll let the troll doll tell you everything then, but just know, it’ll fuckin’ get handled now. Being nice and avoiding being around someone who creeps you out are two different things. Creeps don’t deserve niceness, they deserve an ass-kicking, so I expect to hear about it if he keeps this shit up.” replies Katsuki as he looks at his friend for a moment, wanting to express just how serious he is because only Eijirou would try to play nice with a creep and force his boyfriend to do the same.

“Yeah, okay, I won’t hide it again. I promise. But that means you can’t hide the messages you’re getting from Meylin either. What shit is he pulling now?” asks Eijirou as he arches a brow and turns the conversation on Katsuki with that annoyingly knowing tone of his.

“The same shit he always says, and it’s not your concern. Right now, he’s completely muted and blocked. He hasn’t used anyone else to get to me yet, but I’m not expecting that to last much longer, if I’m being fuckin’ honest. But either way, shit won’t hit the fan until morning because that’s when he’ll actually call me and try one last time to hurt me with words to make me come back.” explains Katsuki quietly, hating how open he’s being but knowing that Eijirou isn’t going to judge him because he knows that Katsuki’s actually done and won’t go back.

If he was going to go back to Meylin, he would’ve gone to Shouto and Izuku first, not Eijirou and Hitoshi. Izuku and Shouto would’ve let him stay there until Meylin called and begged him to come back, and they would’ve tried to convince him to stay, convince him that he doesn’t deserve it, but they would’ve let Katsuki go in the end. Izuku is the one who’d initially introduced them, so at first, Katsuki wouldn’t tell him what happened when he’d ask to hang out for the day. But like two months ago, Izuku heard about it, and he and Katsuki fought about him staying with Meylin after that shit. Izuku said over and over and over again that Katsuki deserved better and shouldn’t let Meylin treat him like that, and how he shouldn't go back to him.

Katsuki wishes he would’ve listened then, or even the time three and a half weeks ago, but he didn’t.

But whenever Katsuki actually breaks up with someone, or the relationship is ended by his partner, Katsuki goes to Eijirou because Izuku gets both too emotional and too prone to violence when his childhood best friend’s heart is broken. It was the same with Izuku before he got with Shouto. Izuku went to Ochako when his heart was broken instead of Katsuki because Katsuki beat the shit out of one of Izuku’s exes after he broke up with the nerd over some bullshit.

“You better not be planning to hear him out tomorrow. I know you’re done, and you’re not going back. I know you. But even you know how bad it will be if you listen to him tomorrow instead of ignoring him. You will have to hear his bullshit in your head for at least two months after this because that’s how you work. Don’t answer him tomorrow, Katsuki, please.” says Eijirou softly, pleading for him to hear what he’s saying, and Katsuki does, but he’s kind of stuck on the realization that it’s been over three months since he’s heard Eijirou call him Bakubro.

“If I don't answer tomorrow then he’ll show up at my classes and shit to say it. I don’t want a fuckin’ crowd. At least this way, I can have the last word and get him to fuck off for a little while.” replies Katsuki quietly as he focuses on the food he’s cooking rather than his best friend who’s looking at him with these big, sad red eyes that say he disagrees with his choice.

Eijirou stays quiet as Katsuki starts moving his ingredients around as they finish cooking, getting his soup moving along before he builds the sushi rolls. His soup is close to done by the time he’s cut his sushi rolls apart and created several plates of rolls for the two dummies that love to eat and snack and have a weird obsession with sushi.

“Tell me I timed that right because I am starving.” Hitoshi whines as he steps into the room.

“Yep, Kats just finished plating everything up!” exclaims Eijirou brightly, and Katsuki stares hard at the plates as they share a kiss.

Don’t get Katsuki wrong, he likes sushi enough, but only when there’s actual heat involved. Hence why he’s having soup instead because those two can’t do heat like he can. He’s made a spicy potato soup, and he’s pretty happy with how it’s coming along.

“So, you made enough to feed an army, and while I get that we eat a lot, you have to know we won’t finish this all right now.” says Hitoshi even as he packs more onto his plate and grins.

“It’s for when you get hungry again in a little while, eyebags.” replies Katsuki with an eye roll as he stirs his soup and finally turns the last burner off.

“Oh, you’re smart, Kats! I would’ve ended up having to order food later.” Eijirou sounds sheepish, so Katsuki knows he’s rubbing his neck with his hand and smiling that annoyingly adorable lopsided smile of his while looking at him. “Thank you for the dinner, I already know it's going to be the best thing we’ve had all week!”

“Well, if you’d learn how to cook, you wouldn’t have to eat subpar food. I’ll put it in containers for you two, now go fuckin’ eat.” grumbles Katsuki as he tries to ignore the heat that is spreading up his neck and along his ears.

“Thank you for dinner, blasty, it is much appreciated.” says Hitoshi through a mouthful of food, but Katsuki just grunts instead of calling him out on it.

He grabs a bowl and dips his soup as Hitoshi and Eijirou leave the room, calling more thanks as they go. Once that’s done, he gets a spoon in his soup and starts packing the sushi into containers after wrapping them up tightly to keep the moisture out, then he puts the containers into the fridge. After that’s done, he starts cleaning his mess up. His soup is cool enough to eat without burning the roof of his mouth by the time he’s done cleaning and wiping the stove, the counter and the dishes down. So, he carries his soup back into the guest room to eat and tugs his bag out from a duffle bag to pull out his laptop and get to work on some homework.

Katsuki curses when his phone starts vibrating, and he glares when he sees an unknown number sitting on the screen. He ignores the call and turns vibrate off, adjusts the ringer so it’s on again but quieter, then he’s tossing his phone towards the head of the bed. There’s one ping of a voicemail popping onto his phone as he eats and types, but he ignores it along with the rest of the calls that follow for the next ten minutes it takes to finish his food and reach a good enough stopping spot to take a break from homework.

Katsuki heads back out of the room to clean his bowl and spoon before slipping back into his room after seeing Hitoshi and Eijirou laying on the couch, kissing and smiling at each other.

It breaks his heart as much as it makes him happy. He’s in love with these two idiots, so it hurts a lot. But they’re happy together, and that means the absolute world to him. So, he lets them have their soft moments and slips back into the room to get back to work.

Not even three minutes later, he hears Eijirou’s voice through the door, “Hey, Kats, are you okay in there?”

“I’m fine, just working on some fuckin’ homework.” calls Katsuki, feeling annoyed as he stares at his conclusion which reads like a shitty ass mess of a paragraph.

It’s like he’s explaining a movie and can’t get a handle on his fuckin’ words, and it’s starting to irritate him. Short and concise is what he was going for, not this mess of long sentences that say literally nothing added up to make a paragraph that says absolutely nothing as well.

This is ridiculous.

“Okay, but you know you can do your homework out here with us, right? We’re working on homework in the living room!” calls Eijirou through the door, sounding a little dejected.

“I’d rather be in here, got a lot of stuff spread out right now, Shitty Hair. Go do your work!” calls Katsuki with an eye roll because he knows that Eijirou knows that he’s not leaving the damn room for the rest of the night unless he needs something.

“Okay, fine, but did you at least finish your soup?” asks Eijirou quietly, sounding defeated all because Katsuki won’t go out there with him and his boyfriend.

“Yes, I did. Check the draining rack, doofus.” calls Katsuki with a snort before he glares at his computer screen again.

This conclusion doesn’t seem like it’s going to cooperate, and it’s going to be a problem.

“Alright, I’ll leave you alone for now!” says Eijirou brightly, and Katsuki rolls his eyes because he knows that happiness is from the fact that Katsuki did eat instead of letting his food get cold and dumping it.

He doesn’t bother responding, instead choosing to attack the conclusion because it’s the only thing he has left to finish, and he needs to finish it. Maybe twenty minutes later, the conclusion is done and grammarly, along with word and docs, have done their best to edit the stupid paper. So, he does a quick two minute read-through of the 10,000 word paper and submits the PDF version before he can think differently. Once it’s turned in, he closes the laptop with a sigh of relief because that’s the last bit of homework he has to finish on his assignment list. He was working ahead some, so it actually wasn’t due for another week, but considering his homework for the week is done, so far, he wanted to finish his work for next week too.

He’s lucky that his professors like to use technology, well aside from Aizawa, and have all of their assignments uploaded there with instructions and expectations already. It makes getting ahead so much easier, especially since he’s considering taking Thursday and Friday off and giving himself a four day weekend to breathe and get through this. He shouldn’t, he has a perfect record, never once missing for anything, but at this point, he really wants to. Besides, two days that he can use to avoid the whispers and annoyances sound a lot better than being surrounded by it and pretending like he’s not bothered by everything that’s going on around him.

He’ll decide tomorrow, he only has his night classes, so he has time to decide if he’s going to use the offered no reasons absences that his professors gave or not.

For now, he turns his attention to his phone. It’s been going off, and he’s been shutting it off, but he’s gotta make back-up plans. If Meylin does what he thinks he’s going to do, then he cannot be here when Hitoshi and Eijirou get back from classes tomorrow. He slips into his messages with Shouto and Izuku and starts typing.

Kats: I ended things with dumbass today and moved out, I’m at Ei and Hitoshi’s apartment right now. He’s been blowing up my fuckin’ phone but hasn’t called yet. Can I move into your extra room?

Izu: I’m sorry, Kacchan, I heard some of what he’s been saying. You deserve so much better than that shit! You can definitely take our extra room, you know we left it set up as a bedroom.

Sho: Are you gonna get with Toshi and Eiji then? Zu’s right, you can move into the extra room.

“Hey, Kats, are you okay?” calls Hitoshi’s voice this time, and Katsuki groans at the timing.

“Yeah, just messaging the shitty nerd and half-n-half.” calls Katsuki as he responds to Shouto’s message.

Kats: No. They don’t see me that way. Can you guys help me move out tomorrow? When he calls, I’m going to answer, and I know he’s going to try to ruin my friendship with them, so I’m going to put it on speaker and let it go.

“Do you want to talk about it?” asks Hitoshi softly, sounding curious.

“Not particularly since they’re mentioning polyamory. I swear I’m fine, eyebags, I’m gonna go to sleep in a bit.” replies Katsuki with a shake of his head as Izuku’s message pops up on the screen.

Izu: Do you really think he can manage to mess up your friendships with them? I think you’re going to be in for a surprise, Kacchan.

Sho: They’re not going to want you to move out, so I don’t know how you’re going to manage that.

“Oh, are they into that too? Maybe we should talk to them about it. It’d be nice to not only talk to Hanta, Denki, and Monoma about looking for a third.” Hitoshi definitely wasn’t meaning for him to hear it, but Katsuki’s choking on his words anyway because of it.

They might be interested, they might actually be interested, holy shit. Katsuki thinks he might pass out at the realization that he could have a chance, but then he realizes that no, no he can’t. He’s never going to be an option, not even if they are interested. He’s not a good option anyway.

Kats: They have early classes in the morning, but dumbass does too. I’m betting I’ll get a call at Eight on the dot. Can you help me move into your spare room, or not?

“They’re not really into it, but they did consider it like two years ago. Did you dumbasses not know about that?” asks Katsuki with an arch of his brow because he remembers getting info dumped on a lot while they were researching it because they were attracted to the same guy and wanted to know if that had something to do with it.

Turns out it did not, and they weren’t actually attracted to him like that, just attracted to how perfect he was as a project partner. That was a fun three in the morning conversation.

Izu: We can be to you by ten and help you move your stuff. I’ll bring the truck, but this is a bad idea, Kacchan.

Sho: I’ll get the guest bedroom ready tonight, then we’ll see you in the morning. But you’re not being fair.

Kats: Fuckin’ thanks, but I don’t give a shit. I’ll figure out the rest later.

He doesn’t hear anything else from Hitoshi, so after locking his phone again and getting it plugged into the chord stuck in his computer, he flops backwards. His phone can’t charge on his computer all night, as nice as that would be, and his computer won’t let it charge for long. So, he groans before grabbing his computer bag and searching for the box that he’d thrown in it during class when he needed to charge his phone up.

“Hey, Kats? We’re gonna head to bed, but we wanted to check on you again because you missed Hitoshi saying goodnight.” Eijirou knocks on the door once before opening it all the way to show that he and Hitoshi are actually standing out there.

“I’ll talk to you in the morning then, get some sleep.” replies Katsuki softly, waving his free hand as he tries to find this stupid box.

“Night, blasty.” says Hitoshi softly with Eijirou saying the same.

As he tugs out the little annoying purple box, Katsuki replies, “Goodnight.”

When he looks up, he sees them smiling at him with a look that he thinks he recognizes, but he can’t believe because it looks like the same look that half-n-half gives Izuku when he does something the other deems as cute. He arches a brow as he looks at them and watches the way they both jolt with recognition as dual flushes bloom across their cheeks. But then they stutter another “goodnight” and head down the hall to their own room, leaving his door wide open in their wake.

“You’re seeing shit, Katsuki, which means you need some fuckin’ sleep.” mutters Katsuki as he shakes his head before going about getting everything put away and packed back up.

Then he shuts the door and gets his charger plugged into the wall before getting comfortable on the bed and plugging his phone in. Sleep doesn’t come right away, but it does eventually settle in his bones to take away this absolutely shitty day and bring another.
