Work Text:
The first sound of the raindrops on the roof rattled the leaves that were lying softly in the gutter.
The small pelts of the liquid move when the wind changes its direction, making them slowly, but surely, clash against the window glass. Illuminating a million and one little drops on the clear structure, as the sound of thunder starts to make its way in from behind it. Causing the sky to sound like it was upset with the earth, the growl from the clouds rolled around the pitch black sky as the opening strike of lightning finally made itself known - casting light upon the sky, for only a matter of time.
There was something calming in the way the sky would change like this, from hearing the noise it would throw around in the clouds. To see the way the sky would have that small moment of light, even in the dead of the night, to just hearing the sound of the water splashing against the glass. It’s something that’s always captivated the attention of Gi-Hun, one of the small wonders in the world that’s always left him just admiring how beautiful mother earth can be sometimes. That even when it feels like it’s going through one of the darkest patches of its time, something, or someone, out there will still find it so beautiful and calming.
His bare shoulder was leaning gently against the windowpane as his eyes looked out to see the sky. Watching the way the stars would twinkle in the night, before momentarily disappearing when the lightning would show. It’s not often that the rain would come as heavy as it’s doing right now, and he doesn't remember if he even saw a forecast predicting something like this at all; but he doesn’t push it any further in his mind, instead allows his body to stay relaxed as his eyes follow each droplet of rain.
There’s no sound but the earth coming from his bedroom, and the only source of light that’s shown - comes from when the sky lights up for those small moments. Sheltering Gi-Hun in nothing but complete, and utter peace; lost and drifting inside of his own mind, that the sound of his bedroom door softly opening doesn’t alarm him in any way. No warning signals were sent out from his brain, too immersed in the outside world that the only way he comes to recognize that something was off, is when he feels the warmth of hands slowly wrap around his waist.
The touch of the skin onto his own that was bare, sent a small wave of goosebumps to litter across the flesh; a small shiver circulating throughout his body as well, as he shakes his head just briefly to try and ward off that sensation. His eyes were still glued to the world that moved outside of this room, but his heart felt just that little bit more content as well; when the arms around his waist tightened just a little bit more. His body had automatically slumped into the chest that was pressed behind him, feeling the way his skin was slowly warming up from the simple touch of the others.
Only after the clouds in the sky rolled the thunder around again, making the rain move down just that little bit more harder - did Gi-Hun feel one of the hands from his waist move a little bit. It was nearly a second hand instinct for his bottom lip to catch itself between his teeth, trying to bite down the smile that already wanted to filter its way onto his face - when he felt the slightly rough fingers brush the strands of hair hanging by his neck away. The one that still rested against his waist, held him even closer to the chest he was pressed against - before he felt a pair of soft lips press against his skin.
There was no helping the wave of goosebumps that rose from this one alone, instead he welcomed it with the flutter of his eyes shutting; a small, content sigh escaping past his own mouth as his body all but completely slouched into the embrace. The sky was still heavy outside of the window, the lightning still struck across the sky when the thunder rumbled, and feeling the body pressed so close to his own… Makes him wonder how he ever lived his life before, without knowing what this kind of feeling could be like.
The lips against the skin of his neck linger for a moment longer, a tender touch to show the feelings that erupted between the pair; and as they move to where his ear was situated as well, the feeling of his breath tickles the sensitive skin inside. Causing Gi-Hun to swallow down the small laugh that wanted to bubble outside of his mouth, as his eyes finally fluttered closed from it all.
“It’s quite beautiful, isn’t it?” The words of In-Ho travel gently through his ear, making his body feel like it’s just been softly tickled all over, his eyes only opening enough to see the reflection of the other man through the glass.
He can see only lightly, how the older man’s hair was slightly pushed back off of his face. The slight slickness in it, makes Gi-Hun think that the man must’ve washed his hair only prior. Making him slowly anticipate how fluffy it’ll look when the morning sun rises and it completely dries itself out. He can’t really make out the facial features that he has as well, but he can see, feel, the bareness of the others skin against his own minus the sleep pants they were both wearing. And there’s just something so tranquil about the whole ordeal, enough so, that Gi-Hun has never felt more safer than he does right now.
His body wrapped up in the arms of the man he loves with his soul.
“It is,” Gi-Hun finally answers the question that his partner had said to him, his cheeks flushing the color a rose would be, “The rain never ceases to catch my attention. There’s just something so, comforting about the way it sounds.”
“I understand,” In-Ho says against his ear once more, this time he presses a small kiss against the lobe, “But I wasn’t talking about the rain.”
“What do you mean?” Gi-Hun asks with slight curiosity, one eyebrow slightly rising as the rain continues to pelt against the glass.
“I was talking about you.” He says it so gently, like a whisper in the dead of the night, for only them to hear and the world to block it out.
It shouldn’t make the butterflies feel like they’ve stirred to life in the pit of his stomach, and it shouldn’t make his heart skip that extra beat from the complement either. Nothing about what In-Ho had said should grant a reaction like this one - not when it’s something he’s heard a handful or more times before.
But something about the way it was presented tonight, with how the earth was rolling out as well; felt like it was straight out of a novel, a fairytale like to make his heart remember that what they have, wasn’t a dream.
“I love you.” Gi-Hun whispers back as the sky erupts into the burst of light once more, his heart still skipping that extra beat as the smile stays wide against his face.
“I love you too.” In-Ho times his words just right, his mouth opening just as a loud strike of thunder rages across the sky.
The love that they share in this secluded moment, the one that doesn’t need to be shouted against the rooftop for the world to hear; is the one that makes Gi-Hun know that what they have, was genuine to the soul, heart, body and mind. The one that makes him feel the most contempt with this life, and the choices that he made to lead him down the path that twined itself with In-Ho’s. Combining their lives and souls into one, to blossom something as beautiful as this one could be.
And the whisper of their love against the sound of the rain is the only thing they needed in this world.
Because it was simple.
It was raw.
It was small.
And it was everything.
