Chapter Text
Tim took a sip of his chocolate milkshake as he entered Wayne manor. He thought it was a terrible idea to have the team’s monthly sleepover here but they didn’t really have any other options.
Bart’s house was full, and they didn’t want to put any more burden on Barry and Iris who already had almost 5 year old twins to look after. Cassie’s mom didn’t know they had sleepovers since Cassie knew that her mom wouldn’t feel that comfortable with Cassie having a sleepover with three boys, which they all thought was dumb but whatever, so they couldn’t use her house. And their mentors didn’t really like them spending time at Kon’s house even though they liked Kon himself. Kon wasn’t the problem though.
Tim’s house was empty, as his parents were out of the country, but they only really knew Kon. It felt disrespectful to just have his friends who they didn’t know over when they weren’t there. They couldn’t use The Cave in Happy Harbour, their usual sleepover spot, as it was undergoing construction.
Tim refused to think about why.
They really didn’t want to have to postpone this sleepover. It was the first one they were going to have after Kon started school and well, it was not going great. They wanted Kon to destress a bit.
Tim had been complaining to Steph and Cass about it, and Bruce had offered the manor after overhearing them. Tim wouldn’t usually accept, but they needed a sleepover place and he knew his friends would be excited to stay in Wayne Manor anyways. The manor would be a little full with Bruce, Alfred, Damian, Cass and Young Justice staying there but they had the room. There was a chance that Dick, Steph and Barbara might be there, but that was fine.
Tim however, did not expect to see Jason leaning against the stair railing and talking to Cass when he entered.
“Jason? What are you doing here” Tim asked as he closed the front door behind him and locked it.
Jason’s relationship with Bruce was still very stained. He would appear in the cave sometimes to maintain his weapons, get medical care, steal supplies or just to fuck with Bruce, but Tim had never seen him in the manor. Not since he broke in just to prove he could.
“Alfred and I are having a late birthday dinner. None of you are invited except Cass” Jason said, not looking away from Cass.
Jason’s birthday had been about two weeks ago, but Jason had been busy with a couple of cases so no one got to celebrate with him. By the time they found out he was done and they tracked him down, he had told them he didn’t want to celebrate with them.
“Alfred guilted him into coming! Said that Jason didn’t celebrate his birthday with him” Cass said. Jason and Alfred had the same birthday, and the only person who Jason actually listened to in the manor besides Cass was Alfred.
“His birthday gift is that the rest of us starve” Dick said as he appeared at the top of the stairs. “And Bruce has been confined to his office for now”.
Tim made a mental note to order pizza for the team for dinner.
Rapid knocking at the door pulled Tim’s attention.
“Bart!” Cass said happily as she went to answer the door.
“Who?” Jason asked lazily as Cass opened the door and Bart zipped in with Cassie. It was easier for Cassie to arrive with Bart as she didn’t have super speed like him or Kon. Bart and Cassie immediately threw their arms around Tim in greeting.
“You don’t know who Bart is?” Dick asked. Bart looked up and made an offended noise.
“I don’t know either of them” Jason said, looking at a ring he was playing with on his hands.
“Dude we were literally just working together last month” Bart said. “Is your memory that bad”?
“We were? I guess you two weren’t that memorable” Jason said. Cassie frowned.
“Don’t listen to him, he just likes to antagonize,” Dick said, giving Jason a look. Tim didn’t know why Dick even bothered since Jason wasn’t even looking at any of them.
“Let’s go up to my room so you guys can put your stuff down,” Tim suggested.
The three of them made their way upstairs, Bart and Cassie greeting Dick with a hug when they got to the second floor. On their way to Tim’s room they passed Damian’s room. The door was open and they could see Damian drawing at his desk.
“Hey Damian” Cassie greeted as they passed. Damian only rolled his eyes but said nothing else.
“So many friendly people in this house,” Bart said as they entered Tim’s room. Tim snorted and directed them to put their bags down in his closet. Bart’s bag disappeared from his shoulder and reappeared on Tim’s closet floor before Bart held a hand out for Tim’s milkshake.
“Sip”? Tim handed it to him knowing that Bart would finish it for him. Tim mourned the death of his milkshake that he only got to drink a fourth of.
“I feel like before he would’ve just stabbed us so that’s an improvement” Cassie said from the closet.
“And Jason would’ve shot us!” Bart said from where he laid on Tim’s bed.
“I’m ordering pizza for us for dinner. Jason stole Alfred tonight” Tim said, causing Bart and Cassie to groan. “What kind of pizza do you want”?
“Yes,” Bart answered immediately as Cassie sat next to him on Tim’s bed.
“Just get the usual” Cassie said and Tim nodded before pulling his phone out to order on the app. It was easier to prepay with his card, since the minute pizza got there Tim knew Bart would run down and grab it without paying the poor pizza delivery person.
The three of them sat complaining about their schools for the next 30 minutes. They wanted to get it all out of their system before Kon got there so they wouldn’t talk about school in front of him.
“-that’s what Cissie said too! I just can’t believe-“ Cassie was saying.
“Kon!” they heard Cass call out happily from downstairs. The three of them immediately left Tim’s room and ran to the top of the stairs.
At the bottom of the stairs was Kon with a duffle bag slung over his shoulder talking to Dick and Cass. He looked tired but he had a smile on his face as he spoke to them. He looked in Tim’s direction and his smile turned into a grin.
“Hi Kon! We ordered Pizza!” Bart called out to him as he waved frantically.
“Sweet” Kon called back as he took off his sunglasses and left them hanging from his shirt.
“Or you could join Cass, Alfred and I for dinner Kon” Jason said as he joined Tim, Cassie and Bart at the top of the stairs. He probably came from the library.
“What the fuck? Why does he get to join your birthday dinner” Dick cried out, putting a hand over his chest and Cass laughed.
“Because it’s my and Alfred’s birthday dinner so I get to invite who I want. Plus I like him better than you” Jason said. Jason had worked on a team with Cass and Kon over the summer so it made sense. Of course Kon spends a summer in Gotham and is making friends with Red Hood. Tim couldn’t judge though since he was friendly with some of Batman’s rogues.
“Don’t miss that opportunity Kon. Alfred’s cooking is really good,” Tim said. He wasn’t lying but he also wanted Kon to have a good time this weekend, and a birthday dinner by Alfred was a treat.
“No dont! Then I would have to eat your part of the pizza” Bart said dramatically since he was a smart boy who caught on to Tim’s plan. Kon laughed as he started making his way upstairs.
“Sure I’d love to come. Should’ve told me in advance I would’ve gotten you a gift” Kon told Jason as he reached the top of the stairs. The other three Young Justice members immediately hugged Kon who hugged them back.
“I didn’t know you’d be here. I didn’t know I’d be here. It was kinda last minute or else Roy would’ve been here too” Jason said with a shrug. “Dinner’s in an hour and a half. Someone will probably come and get you”.
The four of them went to Tim’s room and Jason headed back to the library.
“Sorry I’m late. I would’ve been here earlier but my English essay was kicking my ass but I wanted to finish it so I didn’t have to think about it all weekend” Kon said as he put his bag in Tim’s closet.
“No more school” Cassie said as she shoved one of Tim’s Waynestation controller’s into Kon’s hands. She put her hands on Kon’s shoulders and sat him down on Tim’s bed. “It is now game time”!
The four of them played video games and told stupid jokes. Bart and Cassie sat on the floor in front of Tim’s bed, while Kon and Tim sat on the edge of the bed above them. Kon seemed happier and that was really all Tim cared about despite the fact that Kon kept accidentally throwing himself off the edge causing them to keep losing the level. At some point the pizza came, and Bart disappeared for a second before reappearing with it in his hands. The three of them ate, but they were kind enough to offer Kon a breadstick. While they were eating Steph appeared.
“Steph!” The four of them cheered as Steph walked into Tim’s room with a bat burger bag and a milkshake in her hands.
“Oh good you’re all here to hear me complain to Tim about the tragedy that has fallen upon me!” Steph said before turning dramatically to Tim. “Cass texted me that Jason and Alfred were having a birthday dinner tonight and Alfred was not cooking for anyone else tonight as a way to get Jason to come. So I was like okay, I’ll go to bat burger! But then, after I pay and get my food and I’m halfway here, Cass text’s me that Jason is letting me come to his birthday dinner so I spent money on Bat Burger for nothing! But I was like it’s okay I’ll give Young Justice the food and I’ll just drink the shake. Then I noticed that even though I had ordered a chocolate shake, they gave me a strawberry one ! So since you’re the only loser I know who likes strawberry shakes, it is now a gift for you”.
“That’s so funny because I also got a Bat burger shake today. But I ordered strawberry and got chocolate” Tim said as he greedily took the milkshake.
“It was a good milkshake,” Bart the thief said happily. Steph handed the bat burger bag to Cassie.
“Bat Burger will feel my wrath for that mix up” Steph muttered darkly. “Anyways, enjoy! I’m sleeping over with Cass this weekend so we’ll be seeing each other all weekend. See you at dinner Kon”!
After Steph left Cassie, Bart and Tim dug into her Bat Burger order. They were nice to Kon again and offered him one nugget.
Only one though. They weren’t that nice.
“Strawberry milkshakes are a blessing on earth” Tim said as they finished eating.
“Chocolate is better. The more chocolate the better” Bart said.
“He’s right,” Cassie said, nudging Tim’s leg with her shoulder. Tim scoffed.
“Back me up Kon” Tim said, turning to Kon who sat on his left. Kon made a face.
“Can’t help you. I’ve never had a strawberry before. Much less a strawberry milkshake” Kon explained. The other three Young Justice members gasped.
“You’ve never had a strawberry ?” Bart asked, eyes wide. Kon shook his head.
“You have to try!” Tim told him, offering his milkshake to Kon but Kon shook his head.
“Nah, strawberries look weird” he said and Tim frowned.
“You can’t just say no because it looks weird! You should try new foods before you decide you don’t like them” Tim told him but Kon shook his head.
“Let him live his strawberry-less life,” Cassie laughed. But Tim persisted.
“No, he needs to know how superior strawberry milkshakes are! Strawberry milkshakes are the best thing in the world and I will never give them up! Come on Kon try it! For me?” Tim urged, shaking the styrofoam cup he had in his hand. He had been joking and just being dramatic, but Kon took it immediately and took a sip.
“I mean it’s okay. Caramel is better” Kon said, taking another sip. Tim groaned and Cassie and Bart cheered.
“Traitor” Tim cried out and Kon laughed, scratching the back of his neck. There goes Tim’s attempt at getting Kon to team up with him against Cassie and Bart. Maybe he could get Cissie on his side?
“Let’s keep gaming! I want to win!” Bart cried out. Tim set the game up again and they continued. Tim urged Kon to take a couple more sips, which Kon did, before taking his milkshake back and putting it on his nightstand.
“Do you guys think we should get matching shirts?” Bart asked as they played. Kon cleared his throat as Cassie and Tim gasped.
“We should! For Young Justice or just because we love each other” Cassie asked. Kon cleared his throat again.
“Steph mentioned that for the next Titans retreat each team should have matching shirts” Bart explained. Kon cleared his throat again.
“Stop making noises Kon it’s throwing me off my game” Bart said jokingly. Kon laughed.
“Sorry” he said softly as he scratched his arm.
“We should make the shirts like sports jerseys” Tim said as he made his character jump up a platform. “You know, with numbers in the back”?
“I want 13” Kon immediately said with a cough.
“We know,” the three of them said in unison. Kon laughed but then it dissolved into coughing.
“Need water?” Tim asked, not tearing his eyes from the screen.
“No thanks” Kon rasped out, scratching one of his ears.
“Cassie should be 1 because she’s the leader,” Bart said and Cassie gasped.
“Yes”!
Tim leaned against Kon and frowned.
“Dude you’re like a furnace right now” Tim said.
“Are you calling me hot babe?” Kon asked softly. Tim could see him running his hand along his jaw out of the corner of his eye and tried not to roll his eyes.
“Yes yes you’re very pretty” Tim said.
“Tim you should have three be- KON what the fuck ?” Bart cried out as Kon’s character on screen blew something up, killing all of them and forcing them to restart the level.
“Sor-ry” Kon said quietly as the level restarted. Tim could see him rubbing at his chest and kicked Bart who sat on the floor in front of him. He didn’t need to make Kon feel bad. He could see Kon shaking next to him but didn’t look at him, not wanting to make the other boy feel self conscious.
An odd reaction for Kon to have over a video game, but whatever.
“Sorry Kon, I shouldn't have yelled. I was just so in-“ Bart started but was interrupted by Cassie.
“OW fuck !” Cassie cried out as Kon’s controller fell on her head.
“Sum-thins wron” Kon squeaked. All three of them turned to Kon immediately and gasped.
There were angry looking red bumps from what Tim could see all around Kon’s neck, jawline, ears, hands and the inside of his elbows. Kon’s hands were floating in the air from where he was holding the control and he was shaking with his fists clenched and his eyes closed tightly.
“Kon? What happened? How did-” Cassie started as the three of them stood up but Kon shook his head and interrupted her.
“I can't, ” he rasped and started scratching all over his body.
“Kon stop ” Tim cried out as he grabbed one of Kon’s arms but Kon easily escaped his grip and kept going. He was breathing heavily, almost wheezing.
Cassie grabbed both of Kon’s wrists and pulled them away from Kon’s body so he couldn’t keep scratching himself. Tim could see that the rash he saw earlier had gotten more severe and cursed, lifting up the hem of Kon’s shirt to see that he had the rash on his back and stomach too as Kon fought against Cassie’s hold. They went up to his neck and disappeared down his waistband.
“Please let me go! It’s so bad please ” Kon cried out as he tried to wrench himself from Cassie’s grip. Cassie gazed at him with wide eyes and her lips pressed firmly together but she didn’t let him go.
“It’s okay Kon we’re gonna help you but you can’t make it w-“ Bart tried to sooth.
“ Please let me go ” Kon sobbed which turned into a coughing fit. Tim ran to his night stand and ruled desperately through his drawers for a Benadryl. He had to give it to Kon before his throat closed up.
He found it and fumbled with undoing the package before returning to Kon who was still sobbing and fighting Cassie as Bart tried to soothe him.
“Kon listen, I need you to swallow this! It’ll make it better, but you have to hurry ” Tim instructed as Damian appeared in the doorway. His annoyed look turned confused.
“Drake”?
But Tim wasn’t paying attention to him, he was looking at Kon. Kon sobbed but opened his mouth, but made the most horrific gasping sound Tim had ever heard before Tim could stick the Benadryl in. He tried another choked breath before his eyes widened in shock and he started fighting Cassie harder.
Kon couldn’t breathe. Tim was too late. There was nothing he could do.
“ Bruce ! BRUCE '' Tim screamed desperately at the top of his lungs as he turned to the doorway. Damian’s eyes widened and he disappeared.
Tim yelled for Bruce again and Kon continued gasping for breath and Cassie desperately tried to hold him. Bart kept repeating “ it’s okay ” over and over again but seemed to be telling himself that more than Kon.
Tim heard pounding footsteps running towards his room and in came Jason. Jason analyzed the scene for a split second before springing into action.
“Put him on his side and get your red sun lamp” Jason ordered as he ran over to the bed, fumbling to get something out of his pocket. Tim immediately ran to grab one of the red sunlamps he kept around instead of kryptonite. Never kryptonite.
Cassie already had Kon on his side, his hands pinned in front of him under her one hand and the other on Kon’s side to keep him pinned down as he flailed underneath her. Jason had one knee on the bed and was trying to help Cassie pin Kon while Bart kept trying to reassure Kon but Tim could see that he was crying.
Tim turned the lamp on and aimed it at Kon. Immediately Cassie relaxed a bit as Kon’s TTK disappeared and she easily held him down. Jason let go and uncapped something Tim hadn’t realized he had in his hand. He grabbed the waistband of Kon’s joggers on the side and pulled it out enough to reveal his thigh, also covered in a rash, before sticking the object in it. Kon made a strangled noise that hurt Tim’s ears.
An epipen.
“Move away” Jason commanded as he pulled the epipen out and tossed it on the floor. He rightened Kon’s waistband as the three teenagers backed up before picking Kon up in a bridal carry and running out of the room.
“The cave Todd!” Tim heard Damian say from down stairs before he himself lept into action. The three of them ran out of Tim’s room and to the stairs where Steph and Cass stood wide eyed. Tim could faintly hear Jason running to Bruce’s office where the entrance to the Batcave was and Kon’s wheezing breaths.
“What the fuck ?” Steph cried out as they all ran down stairs, Bart leaving them behind as he had super speed.
“He went into anaphylactic shock. I don’t- I didn’t ” Tim stuttered as they made their way to the cave.
Kon had never mentioned being allergic to anything. And Kryptonite, his “allergy” in a way wouldn’t make him go into anaphylactic shock.
He didn’t even know Kon could go into anaphylactic shock.
They entered the cave and went straight to the medbay. Kon was in a cot with Bruce pinning both his hands above his head while Dick pinned his legs, a red sun lamp above them. Jason seemed to be doing something with an oxygen mask while Alfred did something with an IV. Bart zipped around them frantically.
“Bart come here” Cassie said and Bart zipped over to them. Cassie quickly pulled him into a hug.
“Tim get the oxygen set up” Jason called out. Tim ran over and took the oxygen mask from Jason while Jason walked back over to Kon and started taking his shirt off, revealing more of Kon’s rash. Kon sobbed and tried to get out of Bruce and Dick’s grip. He was still wheezing but didn’t seem to be choking anymore. Jason got Kon’s shirt off and went for his pants and Tim quickly looked away to try to give Kon some privacy. He saw that Cassie, Bart, Steph and Cass were doing the same. Damian, who Tim hadn’t noticed joined them, was staring at Kon with hard eyes. Tim quickly finished his job in setting up the oxygen.
“Oxygen,” Jason said, his hand appearing in front of Tim’s face. Tim put the mask in his hand and heard Jason go back over to where Kon was.
“Breath. Come on, this'll help. There ya go” he heard Jason coach. Kon wheezed and choked out a sob in response.
“This will help you sleep. Don’t fight it” Dick, the mother bird he was, said soothingly. Soon Tim heard Kon’s sobbing die down, instead only hearing Kon’s wheezing breaths.
“He’s asleep and under a blanket. Your team can do the strange thing where you all flock to one another” Damian said, not taking his eyes off of Kon.
He turned around to see Kon was now lying on his side facing away from Tim. There was a light blanket covering him from chest down, but Tim could see the angry rash covering Kon’s back, arms and neck. The red sun lamp had been turned off. Dick was kneeling near Kon’s face, looking at him in concern while Bruce was giving Kon a similar look from where he spoke with Alfred in hushed tones. Jason stood with his arms crossed, his back to Tim.
Tim, Bart and Cassie immediately went around Kon and sat on the side Kon was facing, Dick moving away to give them space. The rash had climbed to Kon’s face and dotted his cheeks. His face was scrunched up as he slept and Tim could seem him shaking a bit.
“You guys need to be careful with what you eat if Kon has an allergy” Dick said from above them.
“We didn’t know he was allergic to anything” Bart said, reaching out to touch Kon but Cassie immediately pulled his hand back, shaking her head.
“We should run an allergy test,” Tim said immediately.
“I’ll take a blood sample,” Alfred said as he started to pull out what he needed.
“Why do you just carry Epipens Jason?” Cassie asked.
“He’s allergic to shellfish,” Bruce said. Tim tore his eyes away from Kon to look in between Jason and Bruce. Jason was glaring at Bruce, who looked at him sadly.
“Yeah I gave him my last dose” Jason said, still glaring at Bruce.
“Cass, go with Steph to Dr. Thompkins and get four epipens. We need them now just in case his symptoms don’t go down” Bruce said.
“Or if he has biphasic anaphylaxis,” Tim added.
“We’re on it” Steph said and the two girls ran off.
Alfred came by to get Kon’s blood sample, Kon making a pained noise as Alfred stuck the needle in. They were lucky Kon wasn’t invulnerable, or they wouldn’t have been able to stick him with the epipen.
With that horrifying thought, Tim made a mental note to start carrying around an epipen.
“Why didn’t he say something earlier?” Bart asked, his hands gripping his knees. “I mean, we should’ve checked on him because he was acting weird, but why wouldn’t he say something”?
Why wouldn’t he say something to us, Bart meant. Tim had no idea.
The room was quiet besides Kon’s wheezing and the oxygen machine as they tested Kon blood.
“Thank you Jason. For saving him” Tim said, his eyes locked on Kon’s sleeping face. Thank you for saving him when I couldn’t.
He had failed Kon. He should’ve checked on him instead of playing that stupid game. He should’ve gotten the Benadryl faster. Her should’ve-
“I wasn’t gonna let the kid die” was all Jason said. “The only useful member of your team”.
“Results are back” Bruce said, handing Tim a paper. “He has a very mild allergy to peanuts”.
“This was mild ” Bart cried out and they all shushed him as he slapped his hands over his mouth, yellow eyes wide.
Even though Tim knew that couldn’t be the cause, he thought back to what they ate. Was there cross contamination with the bread stick he ate? What about the nugget from Bat Burger, was it fried in peanut oil?
No, he knew it couldn't have been.
“We only tested the most common allergens. We’re running it for less common one’s now” Bruce said.
Kon curled into a tighter ball in his cot and made a strained noise.
“It’s been more than 30 minutes and his symptoms still haven’t gone down. He needs another dose” Bruce said after glancing at his watch. A second dose that they didn’t have.
Tim sprang up and turned on the red sun lamp just in case Kon woke up and they needed to restrain him again.
“Spoiler, eta?” Dick asked after clicking on his comm. He paused before telling the room her reply. “2 minutes”.
“Bart be ready to bring us an epipen” Cassie said and Bart nodded, getting to his feet and moving away from them so he was ready to zip away without disturbing Kon.
“I want to give it to him. Teach me how” Tim said, looking at Jason. Tim had to know for next time. Jason nodded as Steph and Cass’s bikes entered the Batcave.
Bart zipped away and returned to Tim’s side and handed him the epipen. Jason kneeled on the other side of Kon near his leg and pulled up the blanket enough to reveal Kon’s thigh. Kon legs were covered in rashes but Tim tried not to focus on that. Jason walked Tim through the process, and Tim didn’t breathe until he pulled the injection from Kon’s thigh. He ignored how hot Kon’s skin felt, and how Kon was shaking and the pained noise Kon made when Tim injected him.
Tim recapped the epipen as Jason recovered Kon with the blanket. It was okay. Kon was okay. It was over. Tim turned off the red sun lamp and turned on the yellow sunlamps. He hoped Kon’s enhanced healing would do most of the work.
“The results have arrived. He appears to have a severe allergy to strawberries” Alfred read before handing Tim the papers but Tim didn’t take them.
“Strawberries? But we weren’t-“ Cassie stopped, eyes widening in realization as Tim clamored to his feet, almost falling over as he did.
“My milkshake,” Tim said.
“Fuck. Tim I’m so sorry” Steph said, looking horrified as Cass wrapped her arms around Steph’s.
Jason looked away as Dick made a sad noise and Damian looked up from where he was sketching. Everyone was looking at Tim. Cassie and Bart stood up to hug him but Tim brushed them off and started walking away.
“Tim, wait”!
“Tim-“!
“Don’t, Tim”!
Tim ignored them and kept going.
Kon was allergic to Strawberries. Strawberries, which was in Tim’s milkshake. The milkshake he had forced Kon to try. The milkshake Kon didn’t even want. The milkshake Tim forced him to continue drinking. Tim did this. Tim almost killed him. Tim almost killed him aga-
Tim fell to his knees in front of the toilet in the locker room and threw up. When he finished he stuck his hands down his throat and threw up again until only bile came up.
He had to get that damn milkshake out of his system.
He rested his forehead against the cool porcelain as he tried to control his breathing. How could he? How could he do that to Kon? He was so stupid! A hand on his back caused him to jump but he didn’t bother looking at who it was.
“Tim, this isn’t your fault” Bruce said as he rubbed Tim’s back soothingly. Tim shook his head.
“You don’t understand. I made him drink it. He didn’t want to but I made him” Tim explained angrily.
Come on Kon try it! For me? And Kon had done it just to make Tim happy. Kon had almost died just to make Tim happy.
Tim slammed his hand against the wall..
“You didn’t know. You couldn’t have known” Bruce told him. “No one blames you Tim”.
“I should’ve known, ” Tim hissed.
“Tim,” Bruce said sternly. “You can’t know everything. No one can”.
“Sitting here crying doesn’t change anything” Tim heard Jason say. He darted up and turned around to see Jason leaning against the wall behind a kneeling Bruce.
“You fucked up? It already happened. Get over yourself. Your friend is in the other room suffering and you’re here feeling sorry for yourself? Get back out there and sit with him” Jason spat, his eyes hard.
“Jason you can’t-“ Bruce admonished but Tim stopped listening.
Jason was right. Tim needed to be sitting with Kon.
He stood up and wiped his mouth on his sleeve before pushing past Jason and Bruce and making his way back to Kon.
“Tim, I'm so sorry! I was the one that brought that in-“ Steph started but Tim shook his head.
“It’s not your fault Steph. I’m the one who had him drink it” Tim said as he took his seat on the floor in between Bart and Cassie. They immediately both leaned on him and he let himself relax a bit.
“We’re sleeping here tonight right” Bart asked.
“No” Dick said at the same time that Cassie and Tim both said “yes”.
“We’re not leaving him,” Cassie said. “We can easily sleep here on the floor”!
“Do not argue with them Richard. You’ll only waste your breath” Damian said, cutting off whatever Dick was about to say.
“Where are the results of his allergen tests? I should probably save them to give them to his dad. He’s gonna need it” Tim said. He wondered if he should make a copy for Clark as well.
Dick handed Tim the papers and Tim forced himself not to look over it. No use obsessing over something that already happened.
But he really wanted to.
They ended up being able to sleep in the cave, but Alfred forced them to use the other cots instead of sleeping on the floor. They compromised by moving the cots closer to Kon’s. Cassie lost rock paper scissors and took the cot at Kon’s feet. Bart took the one on Kon’s left, where Kon’s back was to him, and Tim was on the right where Kon was facing him.
Tim couldn’t sleep though, and decided to just keep watch over Kon. He watched as the rash became less angry and pronounced on Kon’s face and neck, how his wheezing slowly faded and allowed Tim to hear the weird purring rumbling thing that Kryptonians did in their sleep, and how he started to relax in his sleep. Kon was gonna be okay.
“Tim?” Kon muttered drowsily as he tried to open his eyes but could barely manage it. Tim's heart stopped.
“Yeah it’s me, how are you feeling?” Tim whispered, trying not to let his concern show.
This isn’t about you Tim, this is about Kon.
“Sleepy? A little itchy? What happened? Where are my clothes” Kon asked. Tim would’ve laughed if it wasn’t so serious.
“You had a severe allergic reaction” Tim told him softly, trying not to give in to his racing thoughts.
This isn’t about you Tim, this is about Kon.
“Allergic reaction? To what” Kon asked him sleepily. Tim swallowed hard.
“Strawberries,” Tim told him after a second.
This isn’t about you Tim, this is about Kon.
“Strawberries”?
This isn’t about you Tim, this is- oh fuck it.
“I'm so sorry Kon it was from my milkshake! I shouldn’t have made you drink it. I almost killed you-“ Tim whispered desperately.
“Tim,” Kon said, his eyes opening a little more. “Why do you always blame yourself so much”?
“What? Kon I almost killed you again” Tim said in disbelief. Kin frowned.
“Again? Tim, are you still thinking about that? That wasn’t your fault either. I would never blame you for things like that or like this” Kon said before yawning. Kon reached out a shaky hand and Tim quickly grasped it. “I’d never blame you for anything. I’m just glad you guys are here with me”.
Tim sighed and Kon yawned.
“One day, I’ll make you believe that everything isn’t your fault,” Kon said, giving him a small smile. Tim melted a bit.
“But for now, you should get some sleep,” Tim told him. “We can all talk in the morning”.
“Promise?” Kon asked him, but he fell asleep before he could hear Tim’s answer.
“I promise”
