Summary:

“Here,” Eddie said, plopping Buck down on the counter, “if you won’t believe me, believe him.”

“I know you did not just put a wild animal where we eat,” Hen muttered lowly, looking at Buck with her lip curled.

Buck looked back up at her, his eyes huge and watery in his typical puppy eyes, ears drooping sadly beside his face. He shuffled towards Hen slowly, making small huffing sounds as he went, as if trying to apologize. “Oh my god,” Hen whispered, reaching out a hand to delicately stroke Buck’s forehead, “yeah, that’s an Evan Buckley face if I’ve ever seen one.”

Work Text:

Christopher had only been home for a few months when the 118 had another day that Eddie was sure never happened to any other firehouse.

The scene seemed normal enough– simple fender bender except for one woman being stuck in her car, but she was thankfully uninjured. Chimney was checking the woman over while Hen worked with the driver of the other car, and Eddie stood next to Chimney, only half paying attention while he watched Buck retrieve the jaws.

Buck had been– different, recently. Ever since Eddie had come back from Texas with Chris, Buck had been bouncy, for lack of any other way to describe it. He had been all smiles and energy, constantly jumping around both physically and mentally, switching between conversation topics rapidly as he tried to tell Eddie everything he had learned while he was away. Apparently he had been watching a lot of documentaries.

Eddie was snapped out of his thoughts by Buck reappearing at his side, a huge grin on his face. “You ready?” Buck asked, knocking his shoulder against Eddie’s.

“I’m ready!” the woman called from inside the car, a disgruntled look on her face.

Buck handed the jaws to Eddie as he gave the woman their usual spiel about what to do, attention snapping back to Eddie as soon as he was done. “I was watching this documentary on North American rodents recently– did you know that there's a type of mouse called a deer mouse?” Buck’s eyes were alight as he spoke, as eager to share information as ever, “they’re so cute, Eddie, I don’t think I actually listened to anything the documentary was saying about them ‘cause I was looking at their little eyes–”

Eddie snorted out a laugh at that, listening to Buck as he began prying the door open with the jaws. “There was also a whole section on rabbits– which, by the way, rabbits aren’t even technically rodents–”

“Jesus Christ,” the woman in the car muttered, glaring at Buck. Chimney looked between the woman and Buck nervously, and Eddie laughed quietly to himself. He knew the 118 all found Buck endearing, but he couldn’t really blame the woman for getting irritated with the massive bundle of joy rambling on about rodents during what was surely a horrible moment for her.

“Eddie, Eddie–” Buck said urgently, his eyes shining, “apparently a male rabbit is called a buck!”

Chimney huffed amusedly, patting Buck on the shoulder as he left to grab a stretcher so the woman could get double-checked at the hospital. “Bunny Buckley!” he crowed, “Has a good ring to it.”

“Ha ha, Chimney,” Buck deadpanned, betrayed by the glimmer of amusement in his eyes.

The jaws finally did their work, popping the door open. Eddie turned away from them to the woman to offer her a hand out, only to find her expression oddly stormy. “What the hell is the point of you being here if you’re just talking about fucking rabbits?” she asked, frustration clear in her tone.

Buck stepped back, his grin fading to a sheepish smile. “Sorry, ma’am,” he said, “won’t happen again.”

The woman harrumphed, ignoring the hand that Eddie was offering and instead standing on her own, turning away from where Chim was approaching with a stretcher to instead… walk straight towards the woods?

“Ma’am!” Chimney called after her, letting go of the stretcher to rush after her. Eddie followed behind, but Buck remained by the car– probably knowing that seeing him would only piss her off further.

Only, when they came to the top of the slope between the road and the woods she was nowhere to be seen. “What the hell?” Chim whispered, turning his head to look around for her. “She definitely went this way, right?” Eddie asked warily, feeling oddly cold. Something was wrong, wasn’t it? No, that was silly– they must have just… what, collectively hallucinated her coming over here?

“Why do I feel like something bad is going to happen?” was Chimney’s only response, a nervous look on his face.

Despite Chimney’s forbidding prediction, the rest of the shift seemed to go fine. Eddie was at the kitchen counter with Hen and Chim, listening to Chimney recount the events to Hen when–

“Hey, where’s Buck?” Bobby looked oddly concerned about it, and the feeling Eddie had been ignoring of something being wrong intensified. Buck hadn’t actually left his side at work since Eddie’s return. He hadn’t really noticed when the man left, but–

Something was definitely wrong.

“I’ll go check on him,” Eddie said, standing up from his stool and rushing off towards the bunkroom, hoping that Buck was just taking a nap or something. What if he had taken that woman’s comment to heart? Eddie didn’t want Buck to be isolating himself because he was feeling insecure or anything, and he prepared himself to bolster Buck’s confidence if necessary.

He opened the door to the bunkroom slowly, feeling his heart stutter to a stop as he realized the room was completely empty. That was impossible, though. Buck wasn’t in the loft, he hadn’t been in the gym or locker rooms when Eddie passed by, so if he wasn’t in the bunkroom–

Refusing to go down that road, Eddie quietly walked towards Buck’s bunk, peering over the edge of it. Sometimes Buck rolled around enough to fall off the bed, and he didn’t always wake up when he hit the floor, so maybe– but the floor was empty.

Eddie breathed in deeply, holding the breath and then letting it out slowly as Frank had taught him all those years ago, desperately trying to stave off the panic attack he could feel approaching.

His eyes caught on a lump in the middle of Buck’s bed and his eyebrows furrowed as he realized the lump was moving.

It was certainly too small to be Buck, or really to be any human, but Eddie found himself carefully pulling the covers down anyway, some part of him needing to make sure Buck wasn’t in there.

There was a rabbit. In Buck’s bed. A small, tan bundle of fur with massive ears. What the fuck?

The rabbit tipped its head back to stare up at Eddie, freezing in place as their eyes met. Eddie didn’t move either, honestly unsure what to do about that. He should probably put it outside, right?

“Uh,” Eddie started, feeling a bit silly for talking to the rabbit, “sorry, bud. Do you mind, uh– going back outside, maybe?”

Seemingly in response, the rabbit shook its head aggressively at him, somehow managing to give him a look of disdain from its tiny rabbit face.

“Oh-kaaay,” Eddie said, drawing the word out as he searched his mind for something to do. Unfortunately, he came up completely empty. Suddenly, one singular thought emerged from the fog that had settled over his brain when he realized Buck was missing– “Are you… do you know where Buck is?”

At that the rabbit began to nod its head up and down rapidly, hopping up towards Eddie and trying to balance on its hind legs with its front legs reaching out towards Eddie. He stepped forward immediately, feeling the weight of its tiny little paws resting on his waist as the rabbit tried to climb up his front.

“Whoa, whoa– okay,” Eddie muttered, mostly to himself but also a bit to the rabbit, “I feel like I’m going crazy, but– Buck? Is that you?”

The rabbit made a small chattering sound at that, nuzzling its head into his belly, crushing its ears against his uniform shirt. “Holy fuck,” Eddie whispered, “if you’re acting like this ‘cause you have rabies or something and you aren’t actually Buck I will never live this down.”

The rabbit sat back, its nose twitching dismissively. Well, the rabbit was Buck, so– his nose twitching dismissively. “Okay, yeah,” Eddie said, wiping at his face with a hand, “my bad, Buck.” The rabbit– Buck, holy shit– nodded again, returning to his spot against Eddie’s front.

Eddie reached down carefully, grabbing Buck and picking him up as gently as possible. He had never needed to lift a rabbit before, and he didn’t want to risk hurting Buck on accident.

“Okay,” he said again, “now we just need to convince everyone else.”

“Eddie,” Hen said, speaking slowly as if giving Eddie time to process the words, “Buck did not get turned into a rabbit by the woman who disappeared into the woods.”

Chimney waved a hand at her dismissively, staring at Buck in awe. “He definitely got turned into a rabbit by the crazy witch lady that disappeared into thin air. Bunny Buckley!”

Privately Eddie thought Chim was a bit too excited about the situation, but at least he believed it. Bobby seemed– unsure. He hadn’t spoken up yet, instead staring at Buck still cradled in Eddie’s arms unwaveringly, as if he could figure it out just by looking at the pretty average looking rabbit.

“So what do we do?” Eddie asked desperately, reaching out towards Buck. Buck immediately hopped back over to him, climbing clumsily onto his outstretched hand and settling across it, his front and back legs curling around Eddie’s hand.

Chimney hummed consideringly, looking at Buck with narrowed eyes. “Well,” he said imperiously, “we have to find that witch lady, obviously. If she cursed him she must be able to undo it.”

That seemed to finally get Bobby moving, and he shook his head rapidly before turning to Eddie. “Did you find him like this?”

Eddie nodded, stroking a hand down Buck’s back. Was it weird to be technically petting his best friend? No– he was just reassuring his friend. The day’s events had probably been rather stressful. Besides, Buck was the one who came to him. “Yeah, he was curled up under his blanket in the bunkroom. Maybe he went to take a nap and just– turned into a rabbit?” Buck chattered at that, nodding his head and looking up at Eddie with– pride, maybe?

Bobby hummed, pulling out his phone and tapping rapidly at the screen before lifting it to his ear. “Cap? Who are you calling?” Chim asked, his eyebrows drawn together.

“Athena,” Bobby said, rolling his eyes, “we’re going to need one sane person here to help us out.”

Even with the addition of Athena, they weren’t able to make any progress. Chim had asked the woman for her name at the accident but didn’t get a response, which was the main reason he had been planning to send her to the hospital– he was worried about a possible concussion. The car, when it was pulled from the lot it had been towed to, didn’t actually have a license plate, and attempting to track the car itself went nowhere.

Buck was sprawled across Eddie’s lap on the station couch, napping on and off as they all tried to figure out what to do.

“The internet says if it doesn’t go away on its own he might be cured if his mind thinks he is in mortal peril,” Chimney said, not raising his eyes from the scrolling he had been doing during the impromptu meeting.

“We are not putting Buck in moral peril,” Bobby said tiredly, his head in his hands.

Chim glanced up just long enough to look at them disdainfully. “I didn’t say we put Buck in mortal peril,” he complained, “I said his mind needs to think he is in mortal peril.”

Eddie locked eyes with Athena, the two of them rolling their eyes at Chimney’s antics as she rubbed her hand up and down Bobby’s back. Buck snuffled a bit in his sleep, rolling from where he had been ‘loafing’ as Hen had called it to instead lay on his side. One eye opened partially for a moment before fluttering closed again, and Eddie smiled down at him.

As much as he would prefer to have the human Buck in his lap– uh, to have human Buck beside him, he had to admit that bunny Buck was pretty cute.

“What are we going to do while we wait to see if he changes back?” Eddie asked, finally speaking up. “We can’t just– let him go home, obviously. I don’t think any of us are equipped to take care of a rabbit.”

That seemed to wake Buck up, and he sat up quickly to turn and stretch up to plant his front paws on Eddie’s face. Hen snorted a laugh, leaning over to rub her hand down Buck’s back. Eddie ignored the irrational urge to swat her hand away, instead reaching up to pet Buck as well.

“Think he might want to go home with you, Eddie,” Bobby said, a glimmer of amusement in his eyes.

“It’s a good thing he isn’t a normal rabbit,” Chim said, holding up an article on his phone about rabbit care, “think he would have shit on you by now, Eddie.”

Eddie scrunched his nose, gently grabbing Buck’s head to bring them nose to nose. “If you shit on me–” he began, mock threateningly, getting cut off by Buck chomping carefully at his nose, biting down just enough for it to sting.

“Alright, alright–” Eddie managed, laughing, “good bunny.” Buck snuffled at him, settling back down again. If he was going to bring Buck home he needed to start thinking about what he was going to say to Christopher.

Bobby’s phone pinged loudly and he sighed. “Looks like our offline time is up. Eddie, take Buck home, please. I’ll call in for a couple floaters, tell them you’re both… sick, or something. Food poisoning.”

“Must have been some rotten carrots,” Chim commented, snickering. Buck put all his bunny might into a steely glare at Chimney, which sent Hen into a laughing fit and had Athena cooing over him.

A little frustrated with Buck’s attention being divided (which he knew was childish but couldn’t stop), Eddie stood up suddenly, clutching Buck to his chest. “I guess I’ll see you all later? I’ll let you know if anything… changes.”

He headed down the stairs and into the locker room, grabbing both his and Buck’s bags without bothering to change. It would probably be better to change, but Eddie didn’t want to put Buck down in the firehouse if he didn’t absolutely have to. Some part of him was worried that if he did, Buck would hop right back upstairs and choose someone else to take him home.

Eddie shook his head as he pulled open his truck’s door, for once glad that he and Buck hadn’t carpooled that morning like they had been recently. As much as he liked it when Buck picked him up, it was good that he had his own car today. “What do I do with you?” Eddie muttered, looking around the truck for somewhere safe to put Buck during the drive.

Buck struggled out of his arms, plopping loudly onto the driver’s seat and hopping over into the passenger side. He leaned on the back of the seat as he stood on his hind legs, teeth digging into the strap of the seat belt to try to yank it down over him.

“Absolutely not,” Eddie huffed, reaching out and scooping Buck back up. “You would not survive there if I got in an accident, you’re gonna have to go in the back.”

Somehow Buck managed something similar to a whine, breathing out miserably as Eddie buckled him into the backseat. “Yeah, yeah,” Eddie said, rolling his eyes when Buck looked up at him pitifully. “C’mon, bun- Buck, don’t look at me like that.”

Ears swiveling forward, Buck leaned towards Eddie, chattering happily and waving his little arms in the air to try and get closer. “Shut up,” Eddie groused, turning around to buckle himself in before starting up the truck.

He drove carefully the entire ride home, listening as Buck made soft bunny noises the entire time. It felt very normal, almost like how Buck would fill the silence of the car with commentary when he was human. Eddie ignored the pang in his heart at the thought of never getting to experience that again, knowing he needed to stay positive.

Finally he was pulling into the driveway, having gone 5 under the speed limit the entire time, ignoring every middle finger he got from people passing him. It didn’t matter, they didn’t understand that he had precious cargo.

Eddie hopped out of the truck, coming around to the side to let Buck out. As soon as he was free Buck leaped towards Eddie, forcing him to rush to catch him so the man– rabbit– wouldn’t go plummeting to the ground.

He grabbed the bags from the floorboard, heading up towards the house and still wracking his brain for what he could possibly say to Chris. He had a bit more time, thankfully, as Chris wouldn’t be getting home from school for another hour or so, but he was sure to come in with questions since Eddie was home early.

“Alright, Buck,” Eddie said, lifting him up so they were eye to eye, “what the hell are we going to tell Christopher?”

In response, Buck cocked his head and managed an approximation of a shrug, completely unhelpfully. “Yeah, I figured,” Eddie sighed, placing Buck down on the couch. Buck immediately began making noises at him, lifting up on his hind legs again to paw at Eddie’s shirt.

“Buck,” Eddie said, exasperated, “you are a grown man. I’m going to go to the bathroom, I will not be carrying you in there with me.”

Buck looked down dejectedly, snuffling softly and turning to face the couch, his back to Eddie. “Oh, c’mon–” Eddie said, shaking his head incredulously.

“You are not going into the bathroom with me.”

Buck went into the bathroom with him.

He was very polite about it, sitting on the sink with his back turned while Eddie did his business before hopping down onto the toilet seat while Eddie washed his hands, staring at him pointedly until Eddie turned away to let Buck do his business.

Eddie stared at the door until Buck hopped down, pawing gently at Eddie’s leg to let him know that he was done. They returned to the living room together, Buck hopping up onto the couch and settling back in Eddie’s lap as soon as he sat down.

Determined to think of something to say to Christopher, Eddie placed a hand on Buck and settled into the couch to think.

He was woken up some amount of time later by the front door opening and closing, and Eddie sat bolt upright, looking between Buck and where Chris was coming around the corner.

Well.

“Dad?” Chris asked, his face scrunching up in confusion, “Is that a bunny?”

“Uh,” Eddie replied eloquently, looking down at Buck as if he could possibly be any help. “It’s Buck.”

Christopher made a weird face at him, rolling his eyes. “I know you’re like– really weird about him, but I think you might actually freak him out if you name a bunny after him,” he said matter-of-factly.

Eddie watched with his mouth hanging open as Chris came over to reach out a hand, delicately petting Buck when Buck stretched his head out eagerly.

“I’m not–” Eddie started, feeling oddly defensive.

“You stared out the window and pouted for nearly an hour when he left last night,” Chris said offhandedly as he continued petting Buck, glancing up only briefly to look at Eddie. Buck was loving the attention– or maybe loving the information he was getting. Either way, he went from pressing his face into Christopher’s hand to standing on his hind legs once more, wobbly on Eddie’s knees as he tried to reach Chris’ face.

“He’s sweet,” Chris said, grinning down at Buck and pressing their noses together.

“He’s Buck,” Eddie insisted, not sure how to convince Chris when Buck was refusing to help.

Buck had apparently finally decided to be of use, settling back on his haunches to stare Chris in the eyes and nod firmly. Christopher flicked his gaze between Buck and Eddie, his eyebrows drawing together. “Are you… serious?” he asked incredulously.

Eddie didn’t even need to respond; Buck was already nodding eagerly.

That seemed to get Chris to believe them, and he stumbled backwards, slowly lowering himself to the ground. As soon as he was fully down, Buck was hopping off Eddie’s lap and over to Chris, nuzzling at his hands.

“How?” Chris asked, his voice breathless.

“Chim thinks it was a witch,” Eddie said, sighing deeply, “for once, I can’t even disagree.”

Christopher carefully lifted Buck up until they were face to face, looking deeply into Buck’s eyes as if that would help them communicate. “Why a bunny?”

Eddie snorted at that, thinking back to how happy Buck had been about his rodent documentary. “Apparently a male bunny is called a buck. He was very excited about it, we think he upset the woman we were extracting from a car and she– cursed him, or something.”

“How do we get him back, then?” Chris asked, his smile falling as he realized the problem.

“We’re hopeful that he’ll just– turn back on his own with time. Chimney said that it seemed likely.”

Christopher scrunched up his nose at that, giggling as Buck copied him. “Well, until then he sure is cute.”

“Yeah,” Eddie agreed softly, reaching out to scratch gently between Buck’s ears.

Buck refused to sleep anywhere other than on a mattress, and Eddie ended up taking him into his room, worried that Chris might roll over and crush Buck accidentally on his narrower mattress.

“If you’d get me a bigger bed–” Chris started from the doorway, his voice plaintive.

“We can talk about that later,” Eddie said tiredly, reaching out to ruffle Christopher’s hair and smiling at his half-serious noise of protest. “Love you, bud. Sleep well.”

“Love you too,” Chris muttered, leaning into Eddie briefly. “Love you, Buck. Hope you’re a person again tomorrow.”

Buck snuffled at Chris, leaning dangerously out of Eddie’s arms to press his forehead against Christopher’s shoulder briefly, probably the closest he could get to a hug in his little bunny form. They watched together as Chris went down the hall to his own room, and Eddie turned out the hall light and closed his door most of the way as soon as Chris was in his room.

“Okay,” he whispered, setting Buck down on his bed, “ground rules. I know you’re Buck, but you are also an animal that cannot wipe his own ass.” Buck huffed irritably at that, but sat back to listen. “You are not sleeping on my pillows, and you are keeping away from my face. Alright?”

He seemed to take a moment to consider, but eventually Buck nodded reluctantly, looking mournfully towards Eddie’s pillows before burrowing his way under the comforter.

Eddie huffed out a laugh, pulling the covers back just enough to get under them himself. A moment later he felt Buck wiggle his way over to press against Eddie’s arms, and Eddie lifted a hand to place it on his back.

“You’re not usually this touchy,” Eddie whispered, eyes open as he looked into the darkness of the room, “is that just a rabbit instinct?”

There was a moment with no response from Buck before Eddie felt him shake his head against his arm. He thought for a few moments as he gently stroked the fur on Buck’s back, trying to think of what he would do in Buck’s situation.

Probably freak out, honestly. Which– oh. “Is it ‘cause you’re so small?” he murmured, running a finger down Buck’s spine, “That must feel weird for you, seeing as you’re usually a giant.”

Buck nodded slowly against his arm, pressing his way further into Eddie’s warmth.

Eddie smiled at nothing, placing his hand securely on Buck and keeping it there. “Don’t worry, bunny.” he said, yawning widely, “I’ll keep you safe.”

The sun woke Eddie the next morning, shining through the blinds he had forgotten to close in the excitement of the day. He groaned loudly, raising a hand to cover his eyes, only to be stopped when his arm hit– Buck.

Buck was still peacefully asleep, his head buried in Eddie’s spare pillow and an arm– a human arm– draped across Eddie’s torso. Eddie tracked the arm from hand to shoulder, realizing quickly that everything he could see of Buck’s upper body was bare, which meant it was likely that Buck was naked in his bed.

This day was already a bit much for Eddie to be dealing with, and it had only just begun. At least Buck was human again; they could all breathe a sigh of relief with the knowledge that they wouldn’t have to try to ‘convince his mind he’s in mortal peril’ or whatever the hell Chimney had been saying.

At that reminder, Eddie reached onto his nightstand clumsily for his phone, pulling up the 118 group chat and sending a quick ‘Buck’s human again 👍’, putting the phone back down under his pillow to be dealt with later.

He stared at Buck’s sleeping face, drinking in the features that he hadn’t realized he would be able to miss in less than 24 hours. He always missed Buck when the man was gone, sure, but he had never realized that he could miss Buck’s face this much.

As if feeling the eyes on him, Buck woke slowly, yawning widely and scrunching his nose in a very bunny-like movement. Eddie laughed softly at that, reaching a hand out to poke gently at Buck’s nose.

That had the man opening his eyes, and he blinked rapidly at the sight of Eddie in front of him. “Holy shit,” he said, voice raspy from disuse, “I was starting to think I would be a bunny forever.”

“You weren’t even a rabbit for a full 24 hours,” Eddie said teasingly, swinging his legs out of bed and heading over to his dresser to grab Buck some clothes.

“And yet,” Buck said, his voice light, “I’m sure you missed me. What was it Chris said? ‘You stared out the window and pouted for nearly an hour–”

“And you refused to get out of my arms,” Eddie countered, tossing a pair of sweatpants and an old LAFD shirt at Buck.

Buck stuck his tongue out childishly, standing a bit shakily to put the clothes on. Eddie turned his head to the side, still watching Buck in his peripheral. It felt wrong to stare at his naked friend getting dressed, but he wanted to make sure Buck wouldn’t fall over or something after a day spent on all fours. As a rabbit. He was on all fours because he was a rabbit, not for– other reasons.

“Well you called me bunny,” Buck stated, as if that somehow meant he won. Eddie turned back to find him fully dressed and much closer than he had been previously.

“You were a bunny, Buck,” Eddie reminded him, his eyes flicking between Buck’s due to their proximity.

Buck grinned, swaying on his feet a bit. Eddie took in a shuddering breath, closing his eyes for a moment at the feeling of Buck’s breath fanning across his cheeks. “You didn’t call me a bunny,” Buck whispered, shuffling his feet forward, drawing ever closer, “you called me bunny, like a pet name.”

Eddie looked away, sure that the heat in his cheeks was visible from a mile away. “Yeah, well…” he trailed off, knowing damn well that Buck was right.

“I think it’s a cute pet name,” Buck confessed, his voice low, “you know, for a partner.”

“We are partners, Buck,” Eddie said breathlessly, his chest filling with hope. If Buck meant what he thought he did…

There was a moment where Eddie thought he must have been wrong, where Buck frowned and traced his face with his eyes, swaying back a few inches– thankfully, Buck could recognize his hesitance for what it was: Eddie couldn’t stand to hope for more out of fear that he would never get it and it would leave him crushed.

Mind seemingly made up, Buck nodded firmly once before his hands snapped up, cradling Eddie’s jaw carefully and pulling him forward, stopping when their lips were just a breath away from each other.

“Buck…” Eddie whispered, sucking in a breath when their lips brushed together.

“Yeah?” Buck teased, tilting his head just a bit to rub their noses together.

“Please.”

As soon as the word was out of his mouth Buck was pressing forward, sealing their lips together firmly. Eddie felt like his heart was going to beat out of his chest, but at the same time it felt like his brain had finally slowed down, focusing on nothing but this moment.

Their lips slid against each other, a poke of a tongue against Eddie’s mouth causing him to gasp in air. He backed away to take a good look at Buck, tracking his eyes all over the man’s flushed face.

“Just so we’re clear,” Eddie said, watching as Buck’s eyes darkened at his rough voice, “I am completely in love with you.”

“Mhm,” Buck murmured, his slightly glossy eyes remaining locked on Eddie’s lips, “I love you too. Can we please get back to kissing?”

Eddie rolled his eyes playfully, grabbing Buck’s hand and dragging him over to his mattress, shoving him down onto it. Buck bounced when he hit it, quickly getting with the program and sliding over to make room for Eddie– not that he needed it. He completely disregarded the empty space next to Buck, instead settling directly on the other man’s lap.

Buck breathed shakily as Eddie got settled, looking away for just a moment to check the time. “We’ve got another half hour before Chris’ alarm goes off,” he said slyly, winking at Eddie, “what do you think we can get up to in that time?”

“We’ll have to find out,” Eddie responded, reaching down to drag Buck’s shirt over his head, immediately reattaching their lips when the fabric was out of the way.

Buck made a small pleased noise at that, running his hands under Eddie’s shirt to grab at his shoulders. Eddie pulled back briefly, smirking at the whine that left Buck’s lips at the distance as he yanked his own shirt off, settling back down to return to Buck’s lips.

He ran his hands up and down Buck’s sides as they kissed, pulling back just a bit to smother Buck’s face in kisses before moving to his neck, biting at it gently just to feel Buck squirm.

“God, Eddie, c’mon–” Buck managed, his breath stuttering in his chest as Eddie bit down a bit harder. Eddie removed a hand from Buck’s side, placing it beside him for better leverage as he leaned in to kiss Buck again, determined to kiss the man properly this time, only–

The bed was shaking? He pulled back to look at the spot by his hand in confusion, only to find his phone vibrating aggressively, notifications finally coming in in response to his message about Buck.

Maddie: EXCUSE ME?

Chimney: Forgot to tell Maddie that Buck was briefly a rabbit. You’ve got incoming, Eddie.

Hen: yeah, put some clothes back on!

Eddie furrowed his brows, turning to where Buck was sitting upright on the mattress, his shoulders bare and hair disheveled.

Eddie: How’d you know we took our clothes off?

Hen: LMAO

Captain Bobby: Didn’t need to know that, Eddie.

Buck: 😉

“Really, Buck?” Eddie asked disbelievingly, “he’s still our boss.” He backed up a bit, looking around the room for their shirts.

“It’s not a work group chat! It’s a family group chat!” Buck insisted, “besides, you’re the one that said we took our clothes off.” He laid down with his head in Eddie’s lap, batting his eyelashes up at him.

Eddie rolled his eyes, gently shoving Buck’s head out of his lap and standing, grabbing their shirts off the floor and tossing Buck’s at him. “C’mon, bunny,” he teased, watching Buck stumble at the word, “let’s go try to explain this to your sister.”
