Work Text:
Syo kept rotating her wrist in circles, listening to it crack. That was a new development. Not her fault, for once.
“Hey, babe. Know what this is about?” She clicked her wrist again with a pointed look at Kyoko, nestled in Syo’s arms. They were in Syo’s favorite place—Kyoko’s room—lounging. Syo didn’t get much time in the spotlight, so after her self-maintenance, she beelined right to Kyoko’s room. Kyoko could stand to skip a day of class. Nobody would notice if “Toko” wasn’t there.
“If I had to guess, overuse.” Kyoko closed her book without a bookmark, shifting in Syo’s arms. “Did she leave any notes about projects or deadlines?”
Syo snorted. “You think she leaves me notes?” She always had to guess the context of whenever she came to. Her room looked about the same as it always did: messy. Pens and papers and clothes everywhere. Syo didn’t care, so long as she could find what she needed. “You’re probably right. You’re the smart one, after all.”
Kyoko made a satisfied kind of noise. “If it’s going to bother you, do you want to try icing it?”
Great question. Syo weighed her options. Only the noise was really bothering her, but her entire purpose was basically to take care of the body she unfortunately shared. So while she didn’t necessarily want to do Toko any favors…
“Guess so.” She examined her wrist with a critical eye. Yeah, Kyoko was probably right, since there wasn’t swelling or anything. Her side became cold quickly as Kyoko stood to leave. Nobody would think much of her coming and going from her own room, but they sure would if it was “Toko” they saw.
“I’ll be back soon.” Kyoko smiled lightly before closing the door behind her. Syo felt almost giddy, seeing her fix her face before turning to the hall. That smile was reserved for her. Sneaking around was fun!
True to her word, Kyoko returned before Syo could even think to get bored. Now that was a trick. “Nobody gave you trouble?” Syo asked, mostly joking but also ready to fight if need be. She wasn’t only protective of her own body.
“Never.” Syo grinned at the answer. To be a detective of her caliber, she had to have a dangerous side of her own. Syo had to get her to show her that side sometime. “Here, give me your wrist.”
Kyoko slotted herself right back where she was before. Syo handed over her wrist, sucking in a breath at how, well, cold the ice was. Kyoko chuckled under her breath. Some of her hair fell across Syo’s arm. She was always astounded by how soft it was when she ran her fingers through it; Kyoko never seemed to spend much time on it.
“Is that helping at all?” Kyoko shifted the ice pack after a minute, covering more of Syo’s exposed skin.
“Well, it’s kinda numbing, so I guess.” Syo leaned back, her arm now trapped with Kyoko instead of around her shoulders. But, she had to admit, it was almost nice to be pampered like that. It could hardly count as pampering, but still. Usually she was the only one looking after herself.
Kyoko, though. She knew who Syo was, could tell the little things that set her apart from Toko. She saw Syo and for some reason still trusted her enough to make out with her on a regular basis. Her existence wasn’t so bad with Kyoko in it.
