Work Text:

Mizuki was distinctly aware when they woke up that they weren’t in their own bed, let alone in their own house. The first tip-off was the dim glow-in-the-dark stars plastered onto the ceiling. The second, coming soon after, was the faint, sweet smell of a combination of pudding and strawberry vanilla cupcakes. An odd mix, but a lovely and familiar one.

Then, of course, were the blonde pigtails bobbing into her slowly sharpening vision.

“Oh, good! I was hoping you wouldn't be out for too long.” Saki sat on the edge of her bed, staying close enough that Mizuki could see her without lifting their head.

“...What happened?” they asked, frowning when their voice didn’t sound like how they wanted. “Weren’t we downstairs baking?”

Saki cocked her head. “We were, but you got really pale and passed out before we put the brownies in. I got Tsukasa to help me get you up here, since I figure it’s comfier than the couch.” She shifted a bit closer, brushing Mizuki’s bangs aside to feel her forehead. “You don’t feel too warm. Were you not feeling well today? We could’ve rescheduled.”

Mizuki shook their head a bit. “Just a bit dizzy this morning, but I thought that’d go away by now. I would’ve rescheduled so I didn’t get you sick, too.”

“Aww, that’s sweet.” Saki’s hand brushed against Mizuki’s cheek. “Is the dizziness gone? I can ask Mom if she can drive us to your house so you don’t have to walk, but she doesn’t get home for another hour.”

Given that Mizuki had to take an extra moment to process the question and subsequent information, some of the dizziness had to still be there. “That’s okay, if you don’t mind.” They tried pushing themself up, but another wave hit them with the force of a truck. They could only hope they were isekai’d into a world that still had Saki in it.

“Hey, hey, it’s alright to lay down for a while.” Saki gently helped Mizuki back down. A moment later, blush dusted her cheeks. “Actually, if you want… I mean, I’m usually the one being taken care of with this stuff. At least until you get home…” She trailed off, her gaze shifting to her hands in her lap.

Mizuki could guess the end to her question. They were used to taking care of themself a lot of the time, so… “I’m not sure how much taking care of I need, but I don’t mind, I guess.”

The grin that lit up Saki’s entire face was already worth it. “Don’t worry, it’s nothing excessive,” she said, moving over to her desk briefly. They turned their head to follow her movement. “I know a thing or two about fainting, so I also have a good idea of what helps. I even already elevated your legs, see?” Mizuki hadn’t noticed, but once it was pointed out, their legs did feel slightly higher than the rest of their body. “I brought water, too. Gotta stay hydrated!”

While Mizuki could usually match their girlfriend’s energy, well, they couldn’t right then. Still, seeing Saki in the groove of anything was special. The determination in her eyes was the same they’d seen in Tsukasa at school, but it was a lot cuter on her. Though they were probably biased. “Shouldn’t I be sitting up to drink water?”

“Oh, you’re right.” Saki looked around her room, then grabbed an extra pillow that she put against the headboard. Mizuki helped as much as they were able, knowing that, much like themself, Saki didn’t have the most upper body strength. At least, with both of them struggling, they went slow enough that Mizuki didn’t feel very dizzy.

“Ever thought about being a nurse?” Mizuki asked as Saki handed over a bottle of water with a straw already in it—easier to sip without accidentally choking. They spotted the brownies on her desk, too, waiting until Mizuki felt a bit better.

“Once or twice,” Saki admitted, sitting on the bed again, “usually when I was lonely and only had the nurses to talk to. I’d dream of being a nurse like them, since they were nice and wouldn’t let that happen when they had the time to stop in. But now, Leo/need is all I wanna do!”

And there it was, the sparkle in her eye that told Mizuki all they needed to know about where her passions were. They took a sip of water, hoping it would also help. Talking seemed to. Or maybe that was just Saki’s influence.
