Work Text:

“Song Laaaan, carry me.”

Xue Yang reaches his arms out to Song Lan. He’s been acting like this ever since they got into the hot tub that’s part of the perks of the luxury hotel weekend they’d been given as an anniversary gift from their mutual friend, Xiao Xingchen. It’s not out of the ordinary for Xue Yang to act a little bratty and whiny, and sometimes Song Lan will play along. Sometimes not.

He rolls his eyes and lets out an amused little snort. “You have legs. You can walk.”

He wraps a towel around his waist and gets out of the tub, leaving a whiny Xue Yang behind.

“Worst boyfriend ever,” he complains under his breath - though loud enough for said worst boyfriend ever to hear, “I can’t believe it.”

He lets out a dramatic sigh and stands up, only to immediately wobble on his feet and almost fall over. Song Lan, who hasn’t made it out of the tub yet, frowns and instinctively reaches out to stabilize him. “Careful,” he gently admonishes.

Xue Yang smiles and leans into him, but he still seems unsteady on his feet as Song Lan helps him out of the tub. His frown deepens. “Are you sure you’re alright?”

“Yeah, just a little dizzy.”

Song Lan puts a hand to his forehead. He’s hot, hotter than he should be even after having soaked in a hot tub. “You’re burning up. A-Yang, are you actually feeling sick?”

“Maybe…”

“Why didn’t you say something instead of messing around?” Song Lan shakes his head to himself. “Nevermind, I forgot who I’m talking to.” Xue Yang, notorious for never asking for help even when he needs it. One of his boyfriend’s most frustrating qualities for sure.

With a sigh, Song Lan bends down to lift Xue Yang into a bridal carry. Despite the mild frustration and concern, he feels soft inside when his boyfriend immediately responds by putting his head on his shoulder and snuggling up. Xue Yang hadn’t always been this readily affectionate, and it’s still a wonder when he gets to see him like this. It doesn’t help that Song Lan’s touch aversion doesn’t always allow for it either, but he’s been getting better in that department - at least with Xue Yang.

“Didn’t want to… ruin our vacation.” He looks down when he hears his boyfriend’s low murmur against his shoulder and his expression softens considerably.

He sighs softly and kisses Xue Yang’s forehead. “You haven’t ruined anything, A-Yang,” he murmurs and carries him inside. “I’ll always take care of you. You know that, right?”

Xue Yang hides his face against Song Lan’s shoulder before nodding. He does. He’s just not used to it.

“Come on then,” Song Lan says with a smile, “Let’s get you to bed.”
