Summary
During summer, Song Lan had lost his ability to speak. Xue Yang had taken it upon himself to stay by his side through that burdening, sudden change in his life. He'd helped him back up to his feet, to at least think about taking the first few steps towards normalcy.
By the time their university classes started again, some stability had been reached. That certainly did not erase Song Lan's general dejection, but Xue Yang always found the right topic to distract him with.« Look, » he said, soon as he had finished his chocolate muffin. « Let me show you something cool. »

Summary
Meeting someone for the first time is an anxiety inducing occasion, most times. Nothing compares to meeting your online friend for the first time, in a mixture of excitement and dread; Song Lan and Xue Yang had been talking non-stop for the past two years, and were about to find out how long they could survive in the same room together.

Xue Yang had wondered why he hadn’t finished a-Yao’s job instantly instead of rousing him back from unconsciousness.
