As used to his presence as Hanzo must be, Ramattra's genuine curiosity still seems to catch him off guard.
It's been a long day, by the time the omnic finds the time to bother his captive. He is later than usual, managed to catch Hanzo on a day where he is being cleaned, and he is surprised to see that the mindless bots that were sent to handle him have brought Hanzo's primary weapon to be fixed properly.
Well… he is not surprised by the fact that they are treating it with proper caution. Some, like Ramattra himself, cared deeply about their firearms. He made an effort to respect that.
He is more surprised by the weapon itself… in that it isn't a firearm.
A modified recurve bow is held by one of the bots, carefully taken apart and each piece rubbed down. Nearby is a quiver of arrows, of multiple varieties, from what he can tell. Well made, out of metal and carbon fiber. Gorgeously crafted.
He can't help but ask.
"Is… is that a bow and arrow?"
Hanzo looks up from where he is being put back in handcuffs. He answers, monotone.
"Yes."
He is lead back to his cell, but Ramattra keeps his eye on the inner mechanisms of the bow. It is most definitely not standard- specially made, then? By Hanzo, or someone else? A handle and stabilizer fit neatly against the other parts of the bow, custom made to secure flawlessly. A sight sits unattached nearby.
"Are guns not to your taste?" He asks, because now he simply has to know. Ramattra has come across many a irregular weapon in his life, but a bow was far above the norm. In a world of infinite firepower, he could not imagine ever choosing one.
Hanzo takes a moment before he answers, and his tone is as blunt as ever.
"They make killing too simple."
Ramattra glances at him, then, before looking back at the bow and arrows.
Interesting.
Hanzo confounds Ramattra as much as he intrigues him.
The bot finishes with his bow, starts gathering the arrows back in the quiver to bring it out of the room, but Ramattra gestures for it to let it be. He dismisses the machines and moves forward to hold them himself.
The bow is scuffed with slight marks, especially around the edges. Like it's been used for something other than long range combat. Besides that, it looks well maintained, usable even in it's clear age.
The arrows are more simplistic, and clearly more recently made. They're made primarily of carbon fiber, but the tips are made of metal. Some are different to the others- tips less sharp and put together, and picking them up, he finds that there are modifications within the arrows themselves.
"I craft my own arrows." Hanzo says unprompted. "Each one, a meditation."
Ramattra make a noise of interest. He wonders what kind of mechanical skill Hanzo may have, that he can do so. Is it a specific skill? Can he craft other weaponry, as well?
"Did you make the bow, as well?"
Hanzo grunts, a no if he ever heard one.
"A gift." He said. He speaks no further, and Ramattra does not pry. Hanzo will clarify if he wishes, but he almost never does.
Ramattra holds out the arrows to him, asks what the modifications do.
Hanzo is hesitant to explain, Ramattra is patient. He has been patient with Hanzo for a good while.
Moreover, he had shown Hanzo his own weaponry only a few days prior- had explained the secret of his staff and the intricacies of his vortexes, had explained how both were merely alternative options to his second set of arms.
He could tell that Hanzo remembered that well, because he looked more contemplative as he considered the bow in Ramattra's hands.
They weren't quite close enough to share secrets with each other, but their weapons were extensions of themselves. As much a part of them as their souls and body. It was not something kept to themselves, but something to be bared freely. An easier means of connection than their pasts or present.
Hanzo explains, cautiously at first. He tells Ramattra what each of the arrows are and how he makes them. And then he speaks of how he came up with the ideas- and how he got them to the near perfect versions today. Sonic arrows, scatter arrows, storm arrows and all sorts of variations.
Explanations pass through Ramattra, and he kept them on record. For research, one part of him says. For safety, says another.
Ramattra does not care to admit that that he records them because he enjoys the sound of Hanzo's voice.
It is another long discussion. One in which Hanzo does not feel the need to hide himself, which is always pleasant. Ramattra enjoys taking a more passive, listening role in these moments. It is not often he is spoken to without the words being backed by fear or intimidation. Less so, that he feels compelled to truly pay attention the way he is now.
When Hanzo's explanations slow, Ramattra lets the conversation die out. Moves on to other discussions. Sees how Hanzo is tired of his own voice, tired of forming words though he so badly wants to speak them. Hanzo quiets, but he seems calmer now that Ramattra is the one doing all the talking.
Ramattra records this, too. For himself. For no reason.
When Ramattra leaves again, he takes care to handle Storm Bow with all the grace it deserves. He gathers arrows and tucks them safely into Hanzo's quiver, and Hanzo does not say anything about it, but his eyes speak of gratitude.
And that is something else that Ramattra finds he enjoys. Being watched with appreciation instead of fear.
Long after he leaves, he is still thinking of recurve bows and carbon arrows.
It is far too long into the next day before he realizes that he never asked Hanzo how he used his arrows to get into Ramattra's base.
