Despite the fact that they’re in London and Alex is an official suitor (and in fact, engaged to a Prince), Henry’s princely duties still aren’t something that he attends much of. He will once he ‘officially’ joins the family, and there are some events that he gets to attend, but mostly, he just sits in the castle and works remotely on his cases.
But even though he’s got his own work to be done, whenever he notices Henry struggle with his royal duties (because they always involve putting on his Prince Persona that he normally gets to shed around Alex), he likes to do something nice for him.
Luckily, the weather is nice, and Kensington has a lot of pretty places to set up a lovely picnic, so whenever Henry’s had one too many long days while they’re here, Alex makes a point to prepare a picnic and surprise him with it.
He sets it up, and he waits at the spot with a rose in his hand. He left Henry a little note to come find him. Despite having a lot of land, Alex has done this often enough that Henry knows about where to go to find him.
Sure enough, not a few minutes after Henry had texted that he’d found the lovely note, he sees Henry walking towards him, looking much more himself in an outfit he’d wear at home rather than the suit he left in that morning.
He already looks happier and more relaxed as well.
“Hey, baby,” Alex says with a grin. “Would you like to join me for an afternoon picnic?”
“Oh, no, of course not,” Henry teases, as he takes the rose. “I just came out here to tell you that you’ll be eating alone.”
Alex bats his eyelashes at Henry because he knows it such a weak point. “That’s too bad because I made all of your favorites.”
Henry peaks over at the setup of the picnic and hums. “Well, I suppose that I could be persuaded to have a snack first.”
“You don’t get just a snack, I’m all or nothing, baby,” Alex teases.
A simple wink and Henry melts. “I guess I wouldn’t want to make you eat all this food alone after you worked so hard on it.”
Alex laughs and pulls him close for a kiss. “Come on, baby, no more playing. Time for our picnic.”
Henry grins as they sit down to enjoy it. “Thank you, love. It looks absolutely delicious, just like you.”
Alex smiles. “Well, you’ll just have to enjoy tasting me as dessert, then.”
Henry leans over and gives him a kiss. “Oh, I shall.”
“Good.”
