Work Text:

The soft buzz of the coffee machines echoed in his ears as he looked around the space, this cafe was brand new. The benches were shining, the chairs and tables in the booths were spectacular and the floor had no scratches on it. There had been no customers yet other than the occasional villain sent by the crime boss who lives down by the port. Honestly Chuuya had no reason to mind, handing a villain in full costume a large iced caramel latte with an extra whipped cream and sprinkles.

It made his day seeing a ‘terrifying’ villain order something that could make their teeth rot and then leave like double the amount of cash behind. Nakahara Chuuya rubbed his temples as he laid his head on the counter. He did want some normal civilians as customers today but wasn't sure if that would happen.

The bell atop the door rang and the ginger's head shot up from where it was laying on the counter. A fifteen year old male with a head full of fluffy brown hair –which clearly hasn't been styled in over a year– and brown eyes which reminded the barista of the coffee grounds which sat under the counter for easy access. He was wearing a black, high quality leather jacket with a white t-shirt and dark grey jeans. Chuuya didn't think the black dress shoes went with the outfit but he didn't plan on saying that out loud.

“Hello and welcome to the Stray Dogs cafe. What can I get you today?” Chuuyas voice rang out over the silence. He was dressed casually, in light blue, faded jeans, a light grey shirt and black sneakers which matched the back apron which adorned his body. The fifteen year old ginger had to hold in an insult as the other male rolled his eyes at the decor of the cafe and the menu.

“Coffee. Black.” He said simply, no size or anything. He was also speaking in a kind of voice that was cold and considered to be rude, especially around these parts.

“And a name for your order?” Chuuya asked, typing it into the computer connected to the register.

“Dazai Osamu.”

The ginger just nodded silently, then looked at him. “That will be five-fifty.” Chuuya simply said, watching the other teens' faces twist with confusion and look at the menu again where the sizes are.

“No, your larges are seven dollars.”

Chuuya raised a brow. “You want a large?”

“Why would I want a small?” Dazai asked, voice condescending as he finally glanced at Chuuya, raising a brow. He could see the slightly rounded chest, the feminine features the girlish shape of the teens eyes but something just screamed male at him. Was the barista male or female? Dazai couldn't figure it out based on his body or the way he moved. It was hurting his head. “Are you a girl?”

Chuuya stared at him for a moment, attempting to process the random question which felt more like an insult. “I’m a guy, dipshit.” He said coldly, though the feeling of his binder seemed to become more apparent the more the guy stared at his chest. “My eyes are up here.”

Dazai rolled his eyes and sighed, “whatever. I want a large black coffee.”

Chuuya tapped that into the computer, looking at him. “Iced or hot?”

Dazai, taking this opportunity to attempt one of his new lines he got from reading a steamy romance novel grinned. “Make it as hot as you.”

Chuuya was unimpressed. “Decafe for you.” He said simply and held out a hand. “Seven dollars.” That was all Chuuya was getting for this coffee and the amount of time he was wasting on this ‘Dazai Osamu’. He was not happy.

Dazai gasped, offended while handing him a blue coloured bill. It was a ten dollar note. Chuuya’s eyes twitched. “This is Australian currency.” He pointed out.

“So? It’s still a ten dollar note.” Dazai defended and watched smugly as Chuuya rubbed his eyes.

“I need seventy nine more cents.” Chuuya explained, watching as Dazai went digging through his wallet and pulled out a cad. The barista felt like screaming at the top of his lungs when he saw it. He quickly set up the card terminal and pointed at it, waiting for Dazai to use it while sliding the blue note back towards Dazai. “Seven dollars.”

Dazai pouted and crossed his arms, however the look in Chuuyas eyes made his heart race. The brown-blue eyes were filled with annoyance and anger, which could only be brought on by someone truly amazing. So, Dazai tapped his card. The payment went through and Chuuya started on making the drink. “So… Hotstuff, can I have your number?”

Chuuya choked on air and sent the cup filled with hot coffee flying at Dazais head on instinct while screaming “NO!” Chuuya looked between his hand and the coffee that was on the floor, which had narrowly missed Dazais head since the burnett moved out of the way of it. Chuuya took a deep breath, trying to calm down. “You may not have my number.” He said calmly, restarting Dazais drink and making sure to dump some sugar in it to piss the guy off.

Dazai sighed. “Why is it always the hot ones who throw coffee at me?” The burnettes pout turned back into a grin. “When are you working next, cutie”

Chuuya locked eyes with him. “Never.” That was a lie but if it made this man never come back he would be happy.

Dazai pouted “Then give me your number.”

“No, you're like a creepy cat.”

Dazai paused, trying to process the comparison. A creepy cat ? That's what he looked like in the eyes of this person? He knew that Odasaku compared him to a cat due to his behavioural patterns and looks but a creepy cat? He wasn't creepy, right?

“Then I’ll come back everyday until you’re here…. Uh…” Dazai looked around the ginger's chest, not seeing a name tag. “Chibi.”

Chuuya slid him a drink. “Chuuya.” He corrected and crossed his arms. “Now leave.”

Dazai sighed, picking up the to-go cup and walked towards the exit and pushed open the doors, he looked over at Chuuya and smiled. “I’ll be back another time…” He was trying to think of something to make the ginger flush and maybe yell at him again. “...Baby boy.” With that he hurried out of the cafe, door slamming shut behind him just as an empty to-go cup slammed into the wall next to the door frame.

Chuuyas face was bright red from embarrassment and anger. He quickly pulled up a word document on his screen and typed out in big, bold letters;

Dazai Osamu
Banned for life

However, that sign in the window did not stop Dazai from entering the next day to see the ginger.
